Playlists not working in Home Sharing

My setup:  iTunes 11 on Windows 7 PC, Home Sharing enabled, Apple TV 2 with latest firmware, Remote app on iPad 3
Initially I couldn't get Home Sharing to work at all, then discovered it was an issue with my Verizon FIOS Actiontec M1424WR router.  Solved that problem by going into Advanced settings for the router and disabling the IGMP Proxy.
Now when I start the Remote app on my iPad I can get to my library, but I'm having problems with playlists and podcasts:
1.  The playlists won't play at all.  I can play individual podcasts but not playlists.  Anyone know how to get playlists working?
2.  Within playlists the podcast order is changed.  Anyone know how to get Home Sharing to stop changing the podcast order?
3.  Home Sharing is also changing the order of podcasts within the podcast itself - for example if I have NPR All Things Considered as a podcast, it changes the order of the individual stories.  This is very annoying - anyone know how to make it stop doing this?
Any help is appreciated.

OK still having the same problem but now I'm using a workaround.  From iTunes on my PC, I select Apple TV from the speaker list, (via the icon that has a triangle within a rectangle) then start the playlist from there.  The podcasts start playing and can then be controlled, e.g. paused, from the Remote app on my iPad.  Also on the iPad in the list view up at the top it shows the upcoming podcasts and they are in the right order.  It would be nice if Apple fixed this so that the podcast playlist could be started from the iPad instead of having to start it from the PC.

  • TS2972 Troubleshoot HOME SHARING. Everything is connected. Everything is up to date. Everything is turned on. Everthing is enabled and My network works!! The ONLY thing that is not working is Home Sharing and this JUST happened after I updated iTunes.

I had NO problem with Home Sharing until I updated iTunes. INSTANTLY, Home Sharing quit. I have two AppleTV's, two computers running Win7 and iTunes. All have worked seamlesly until I updated iTunes last night. I have tried all of the Home Sharing trouble shooting suggestion with no luck. My network connections are good and I can stream EVERYTHING ( Netflix, Youtube, NetRadio etc ) EXCEPT I cannont connect to Home Sharing. What gives Apple Support? Where is the fix? Anyone?

Has there been any response that helped?  Why hasn't someone from Apple responded with a solution?  This post was created back in 2012 and I did an update on my iTunes to 12.1.1.4 and all of a sudden my Home Sharing stopped working.  I even reset my settings on my Apple TV hoping that would work and no, it didnt.  Does anyone have a solution?

    Hello hobartco,
Home sharing will, indeed, need to be set up on your Apple TV, as well.

  • Cannot home share the game app purchased at iTunes store. Home sharing music works. Home sharing books works. But, when I try to copy the game app, it says my computer is not authorized. What am I doing wrong?

Cannot home share the game app purchased at iTunes store. Home sharing music works. Home sharing books works. But, when I try to copy the game app, it says my computer is not authorized. What am I doing wrong?

I've been struggling with a similar issue myself and just figured it out.  Some of my content had been purchased with an older Apple ID that I don't use any more.  When I authorized my second computer, I only authorized it for my new Apple ID, not my old one.  When I tried to copy my library to the new computer, many songs, apps, etc. reported the error "could not be copied because this computer is not authorized".  It drove me crazy because I knew the computer was authorized and much of my library came over just fine.
Finally I selected some of the problem items, selected "Get Info" from the menus, and saw that they were all purchased by my old Apple ID.  I then authorized my old Apple ID on my new computer, and all of my files are copying correctly now.
Would be great if the message said something like "...because this computer is not authorized for Apple ID [email protected]"

  • Could not connect to " home shared iTunes library name "

I'm having an issue with iTunes/ Apple TV. Actually it has been ongoing. I have a particular iTunes library shared on a private subnet (together with the Apple TVs) from a Mac Mini. I can connect and play content any time with iTunes on another computer 100% reliably. But around 60% of the time when I try to connect to it from any of my four Apple TV (2's) an error comes up saying "Could not connect to "<home shared iTunes library name>" ", "Make sure the computer is on the same network as your Apple TV. the iTunes version is up to date and iTunes is running". The answer to those questions (as always with such messages is obviously 'yes':
Yes of course we are on the same network. If I wasn't, the library wouldn't have even shown up in the first place before selecting it
Yes iTunes as always is the latest version thanks to Mac Software Update
    Again 'dah'. See response #1
If I restart the offending iTunes library the error is resolved (although sometimes it does require reboot of the Apple TV) but could reappear as early as within the next 24 hours. This issue has been occuring for a very long time however appears to be increasing in frequency. It occured as well on the Apple TV (v1).
Anyone with clues on what's going on here?
    Thanks
    Greg

I agree that the first debug point should be the network. Though like Greg, I use a Mac Mini to serve up movies to a couple of Apple TVs. From the 'problem' Apple TV, I could see other iTunes movie libraries on other Mac(s), and those would work/play fine. It's only when I try to connect to the iTunes Library of the Mac Mini that I have this issue. It's almost like it's asleep, and doesn't respond. Though I can mount the library folder, and play movies from other Macs w/o a problem while the Apple TV still has the problem.
As Greg mentions, closing and re-opening iTunes on the Mini solves the issue (though only temporarily).
The only difference that I have (non-consistency) is that my Mac Mini is an older model, and cannot be upgraded to run Lion (10.7.x) like my other Macs. The Mini is running 10.6.8, and iTunes 10.6.1 (32-bit). My Macs are running 10.7.3 and the 64-bit version of iTunes 10.6.1.
Is it possible it could be a 10.6 vs. a 10.7 issue? Greg, which version of OS X are your Macs running?

  • Can Apple TV work from home sharing if not connected to internet?

I have recently purchased Apple TV but where it has to be connected to the TV it cannot be detected by the Airport Wifi router that is placed on the property.
I can use my Macbook to connect to the internet, but can I some how use home sharing to my Apple Tv even if it is not connected to the internet?
If not, is there any other possible way to get Apple TV to work?

I would get a pair of mains powerline networking adapters to send ethernet from the router to the AppleTV across the mains.
Unfortunately AppleTv requires internet to briefly authorise protected content and won't work without it via Home Sharing.
A while since I tested unprotected content but I suspect that won;t work either as AppleTV needs internet to set the time.

  • Video is not working in home share, music is!

I have a pretty new macbook pro running snow leopard with itunes 10, connected to an airport extreme and a windows machine running xp connected to the same airport using wireless g. It runs itunes 9.
Sometimes I want to stream from my mac to my pc so I turned home sharing on and did the whole authorize thing, music works but tv shows do not, they show up just fine BUT when you double click they do nothing. XP does have quicktime installed also.
This occurred the same way on the old pc I had but I thought it might just be too slow for it but same thing now (the pc is over 2GHz)
Everything find online does not seem to help this, it is always how to set it up or it is not working at all. Like I said music streams just fine and videos (tv shows and movies) show up just fine in the list but double clicking does nothing, it thinks about it for a second and then nothing.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks

  • RE: Library Sharing with Apple TV1, no longer works with Home Sharing on.

Let me begin by telling you what I have.
Last year I took my old 2006 XServe Dual Quad 2.8 GHz and moved it in my home which is hardwired, and set it to share my iTunes library (700 movies, 700 TV Shows and 16,000 songs) to my six Macs, 3 PC's and four Rev. 1 Apple TV's, thereby creating a cheap Kaleidescape Video Server System (www. Kaleidescape.com), and it worked great. However, when I introduced an Rev. 2 Apple TV into the equation, it, the Apple TV2 does not see the shared libraries on the XServe. It requires Home Sharing. The problem begins when I turn on Home Sharing for the Apple TV2, my Apple TV1's no longer see the Shared Libraries, and I have not be able to find a solution that allows me to run both TV's. In looking through the internet it appears the Traditional Sharing that I was used to, is going away with IOS. The question then becomes, is there a work around? Realistically, I cannot see why Apple would disable this feature as it works so well, and didn't require iTunes Authorization, which is user limited. Any ideas? I would really appreciate the help.

  • Apple TV2 doesn't work with Home Sharing

Internet works great (can access Netflix and rent movies on iTunes) but I can't connect to my computer. (I'm using Windows 7) Here's what I've tried...
1)Made sure I'm running the current version of iTunes.
2)Uninstalled Norton and made sure no firewalls are blocking anything.
3)Opened the two ports on my router that iTunes uses.
    4)Reset my Apple TV.
5)Turned home sharing on and off and tried opening and closing iTunes.
6)Made sure all sharing is on in my iTunes preferences.
7)Plugged my Apple TV directly into my computer.
Can someone please help? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I haven't been able to find anything on the apple forums that have any sort of solution that works.
    Thanks a bunch!

Last Update: I finally tried my wife's MBA. Once I enabled HomeSharing on the same AppleID, it instantly appeared on AppleTV and worked like a champ. While her laptop can see the Dell's library, Dell cant see the laptop's.
Somewhere I read that this whole homesharing thing only works if the computer you want to share is hooked up wirelessly, not via a hardline to the router (which is my configuration). Ok, so for now I have a workaround to play the Dell's library, just go thru the wireless laptop.
Please, Apple, do something about this. It's not like you to have such Windows-like configuration problems!

  • Apple TV 2 is on the network but not available through Home Sharing or AirPlay

My ATV2 has been working well for many years but recently won't connect through Home Sharing. It is on the same network as my Mac and I can rent through the iTunes Store, connect my YouTube account etc but it doesn't appear on any devices as an AirPlay option. I'm logged in using the same Apple ID on all machines and devices. I've restarted the ATV2, iTunes, my Mac, my router and checked that everything is running the latest software. They all were except for iTunes, which I updated (12.1), but it had no effect on the problem. I had not recently made any changes to any device or software, that I'm aware of.
It did briefly work (no change made) a day later but wouldn't connect the next time I tried. I've spent the last few days trying to find a solution and found nothing.
Any advice on how to progress?

    Hi Darren,
Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
It seems like you're not able to access the iTunes library on your Mac from your Apple TV using Home Sharing.
Restarting all of the devices and updating software are good troubleshooting steps, and next I'd recommend turning off Home Sharing on your Apple TV and Mac, and then back on again.
If necessary, you can refer to these links for Home Sharing setup:

If the issue persists, you may also want to double check your network/router settings using steps four and five in this troubleshooting guide:
