Playlists On 8530 Curve

I've only had my BB 8530 Curve for a month, so I'm still on a steep learning curve.  One thing for sure, I DO NOT like the BB music player but so far have not found anything any better, so I'm struggling with using it.
First thing is creating a playlist. What a bummer - one song at a time from HUNDREDS copied to the handheld! What a bore. So, I created a one song playlist, plugged the BB in to my computer and using Windows Explorer (XP) copied the playlist to my hard drive.
I then opened the .m3u file with a text editor and noted the format of the one song entry. Since that time I've been MANUALLY creating and copying to the handheld MANY playlists.  I use the DIR command in a music directory, piping the result to a text file. Then using the text editor (NoteTab Light) I block delete the info I don't need, change the SPACES in song names to %20, and add the file path info from my test file, such as :file:///SDCard/AEH%20Music/barbershop/ changing the "barbershop" to whatever playlist name I desire.  It's been a real pain in the tush, but I'm 80% finished.
A remaining problem I can't find an answer to is how to select RANDOM songs to play from a playlist. It seems to be one at a time or all and if there's another method of selection I can't find it here, the BB forums or the user manual.
On my Palm Treo I used to use Pocket Tunes (pocket-tunes.com) but they don't have a version for the Blackberry operating system. Sigh...

I misunderstood your original question. I didn't realize you wanted to play only certain songs within your playlist.. NOT random songs in any order. I'm sorry, unfortunately there is not a way to play music the way you're attempting.

  • HELP! BlackBerry 8530 Curve won't accept my work Exchange E-mail for Setup

Hey guys, hoping I can get some help as I'm rather tech illiterate.  I got a brand new BB 8530 from Verizon yesterday, and while they were able to sync my g-mail account to my phone, they were not able to get my work-based exchange account hooked up.
I got back to the office, and a coworker with an older model Curve setup her work email on her phone for the first time, and it worked without a hitch.
I know my email and pass are correct, as our office's tech guy made sure I was using the right ones.  I tried the advanced setup for Exchange with the domain, user name, mailbox name and everything seemingly correct.
Each time it tells me "invalid e-mail or password", but I know that can't be right; our IT guy transcribed the email and pass directly from the server.  In addition, if I change the server address slightly and instead of "mail.(companyname).com/exchange", I write "exchange.(companyname).com/exchange, a new error message comes up saying "Cannot access e-mail account, etc. etc."
My office has an SSL -- could that be the problem?
I am fed up and would like to either throw the BB away or take it back to the store, so if someone could help, that'd be great!

  • My yahoo email was hacked into via my Blackberry 8530 Curve

My yahoo email was hacked into as I opened an email on my Blackberry 8530 curve.  They were able to change my email password, steal and delete my contact list, send all my contacts and email saying I was in London and desperately needed $1500 and set up an alternate email in Yahoo so that if some questioned the email requesting money they would reply it was really me.  Is there anything I can use to protect the Blackberry phone from this type of thing from happening.  Nortons phone security doesn't work with RIM  Thanks for any help
    Jack
You should also know YAHOO was of now help at all in helping or even stopping this from going on.  They only respond with canned emails.

Thanks for the response.  No one else used my phone.  Unfortunately, I'm still skeptical of your conclusion.  I have disabled the yahoo e-mail through my Blackberry message center and changed the password on my yahoo e-mail account.  Fortunately, I have had no further occurrences over the past few days.  To regain some confidence in the security, I feel inclined to create a new yahoo e-mail account, add some contacts, enable it through my Blackberry message center and see if the same thing happens.  Any thoughts on that?
omg, your Yahoo account was hacked probably from India or China or Turkey, by running password code breaking software on the account. The hackers do this ALL day long and ALL night long across the internet guessing passwords combos.
It has nothing do with your BlackBerry. Your BlackBerry email data is encrypted. Your PC or internet connection to your Yahoo account is very likely not.
    Your "test" won't prove anything.

  • 8530 Curve vs Tour 9630

I have an 8530 and just inherited a Tour 9630. The Tour doesnt have wi-fi, but is that necessary? Which is a better phone?

    Hello twilson73,
Each BlackBerry have their differences and if you want to know what each device has, you can do a comparison here.
As for Wi-Fi, it's not necessary but a nice feature. You can use a Wi-Fi network to browse the web, stream videos or in the case you don't have network coverage to still use data for email, BlackBerry Messenger etc.

  • 8530 Curve overheats and dies

Twice this week my phone has gotten really hot and just died.  It happened the first time on Tuesday.  It had been working fine, I picked it up to send a text and it felt very hot.  So I immediately got the battery out and let it cool down.  There was still two bars left on the charge at the time.  I put the battery in after it cooled and it wouldn't turn on.  I even tried the wall charger and nothing happened.  Wednesday, I got a new battery and things seemed to be working fine until last night.  The phone was on but in my jacket pocket.  I could feel it getting really hot again so I removed the battery once more.  Now it is dead again.  My wife has the same phone and it is currently working, so I tried swapping batteries.  Her good battery won't turn my phone on and my battery won't work in hers.  Any suggestions?
I did get a message telling me to update the phone a few days before this, but wasn't able to do it before all the fun started happening.

My daughters 8530 has been over heating for the past 2 weeks. Not bad but enough for a 17 year old to notice and say something and while asking questions about it, she also informed me it doesn't charge for very long. So, I took it to a Sprint store. Having been a previous Sprint employee (switch tech), I feel I normally make a connection to the remaining employees. So, tech takes the phone. pops in a new battery, it gets hot as soon as he turns it on, or tries to. It never booted up. He smells it, smells fried. I could have told him that but he rain off before I could explain anything much. Gives it to a repair tech. She takes it appar. Comes out and says it has "moisture" damange. Say what? The water indicators on the battery and in the phone are fine. She shows me a connection between the screen and motherboard and says there "was some residue indication corrosion". Ok. the phone is old. It's gonna have some kind of casing compromised to mosture in it's eletronic life but not a dunking or pouring rain kind of treatment. So, I lost it. One thing this store always did to me in the past but asked the girl if that was the first think they learned in tech school was "sorry, you have some kind of water damage". That's when I told her she could not find me one sprint/nextel phone that's more then 2 years old without some kind of "water damange" on a connection somewhere in the phone. The area in question was about half an inch away from the earphone jack. SO, here I have a BB that blows up batteries (had 2 spairs and it killed both, one almost blew up but took it out before it popped). So, something started shortning out the board to do this. They offered me an upgrade but I'm not going that route just yet. Do this things have issues other then bad charge ports that break away from the mother board, blowing up batteries or easy to die because of high humidity?

  • 8530 Curve Screen Keeps lighting up

I am a new BB owner and I set my LED backlight to 30 seconds, however it keeps coming back on, even after I have pressed the Mute button to lock the screen.  What is going on? Anyone have this problem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Next time it does it, and with the power on, pull the battery out for 30 seconds or so.
Hopefully that will sort it. The only permanent solution I could find was to reinstall the software afetr doing a backup. Try the battery pull 1st.

  • 8530 Curve

The "maps" program on my phone thinks the phone is in Tennesse. I am in Maryland! Can I reset it?

    Hello twilson73,
Try to refresh your GPS settings by going to Options ->Advanced Options -> GPS. Hit the BlackBerry Menu key and select Refresh GPS.
Depending on your wireless carrier, you may need to have the GPS feature enabled. I would suggest consulting with them about this.

  • 8530 curve sync error

When attempting a sync with my outlook on the laptop, the adddress book quits half way thru with the error message, "Error encountered 0x80040fb3   check documentation"
Prior to this I had updated software to ver. 5.0.0.973 bundle 1596. updated desktop software. kept trying with same response. I've had this phone for a little over two years.
It's terribly inconvenient to not have all my contacts in the phone as only about half would load. (403 of 800 or so.)

I found a thread on this:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/General-BlackBerry-Functions-and/Error-code-0x80040fb3/m-p/60...
