Playlists or something...

Ok I have a 40G iPod that is almost full. The problem I am having is using it while connected in my car. I have a Pioneer head unit that can control the iPod. It only list 3 or 4 artists at a time and the scroll is way slow. It takes forever to get to someone in the middle of the alphabet.
I tried using playlists and creating one for each letter of the alphabet but when I drop them into the playlist it lists them as individual songs not breaking it by artist.
Is there any way I can subset the artists such that I can break them into smaller groups so it is easier to control from my car stereo or for that matter even from the iPod controls.
Thanks
Rick

Like you, I want to play podcasts in a playlist which I have set up on my iPad. The playlist appears in iTunes, with the podcasts listed. But the playlist in the iPad is empty, in other words the podcasts are not available there. I have no problem listing podcasts themselves on the iPad. The problem is to get them into the playlist (which works OK on my iPlayer). Seems odd but there must be an easy answer. Someone, help please! Leskrob

  • Lost my playlists and something else :o(

I have a MacBook Pro, with the HD partitioned into "Mac HD" and "Audio". I have a rather large music library on "Audio" that is linked to my Serato library.
Today, I noticed that some of my playlists were missing.
I found this online: iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists - Apple Support and followed the instructions. I have now gone from well over 22000 songs, to just over 5000 tracks.
I noticed there are 2 iTunes libraries on my mac. One on "Mac HD" drive which appears to be about 30 gb, and another on the "Audio" drive (where I have set iTunes as the default drive and folder for my music).
The playlists I was looking for were not restored with the above process. However.... When I do a Spotlight search, I can find the name of the playlist I'm missing on a file called music.txt. How do I get all this back to normal?

I should add, when I started the process from the link above, iTunes started dumping audio onto my "Mac HD" drive... something I didn't want to do. I only have about 20gb free space there now

  • "All of the playlists for updating no longer exist"???!!

I created a few new playlists and deleted an old one in iTunes, and then when I plugged in my mini to update I get the message:
Songs on the iPod “Kellee's iPod” cannot be updated because all of the playlists for updating no longer exist"
There are no songs in my mini after this msg. I reset it, tried to update again, but got the same msg. Please help!!

    Hi Kellee!
Why do people delete playlists?? Seems like you have the same problem someone I tried to help has. She got the exact same error message when she deleted a playlist. If I were you I would have shifted some songs around, changed the name of the playlist to something else but NOT deleted the playlist. I don't think you can get the same playlist back once you delete it. Question is why is your iPod not recognizing your new playlists and it's requesting to update the playlist you already deleted?? I'm afraid I can't help you but maybe someone else can. I just wanted to say this.

  • Ipod cannot be updated because all of playlists for syncing no longer exist

I think i delted the playlist for my ipod and now i get this message and my ipod wont update and i have no clue what to do

This problem arises when you use 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' to sync your iPod and then delete the playlist it has been updating from. Most people use this setting when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library. If you haven't deliberately chosen this method, adding a smaller iPod to a larger library for the first time causes iTunes by default to make a new playlist called something along the lines of "Owner's iPod Selection". If you for any reason delete it, you will not be able to sync your iPod.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -iPod to make it the first playlist in the source list. You can make this a normal playlist and drag whatever you want to it or you can make it a random Smart playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano). Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply:

  • Hey Is there any way to sub-divide Playlists

I know this is getting really anal but I would really like to be able to set-up a playlist or something like it with an artist or band and then be able to sub-divide that playlist by album. Maybe I am going about this wrong I just don't like any of the other search methods provided by the ipod If you actually use the artist search tab I always get the random artist that I own one or two songs from because of a Soundtrack or compilation and I hate having to scan through them just to find what I am looking for. the album tab is just as bad cause then I really have to remember what such and suchs third album was called. There has to be a way to make this a more streamlined process that I am just missing? Hope someone can help.
P.S. And yes I have used the compilation option when importing the CD

Hey all, i have just purchased an nano. i had the kid across the road put songs onto it for me because i am computer impared. Some how(dont ask me how) i wiped off my playlist. I tried to create a new playlist, i even put music into it. The **** thing still wont sync. My little ipod has no music for it master. • ITunes 11.0.2 breaks playlists even more!

    I'm SO ANNOYED!!!...
They've broken playlists even more now!!!...
In iTunes 10 when you searched a playlists for something (normal or smart) and pressed play that search would "stick" and you could look at other playlists and come back to the searched playlist and the search would still be there and everything would keep playing fine...
When iTunes 11 came out and you searched a playlist it would act the same and the search would "stick" until you came back to that playlist... ...When you go back to the playlist your search would be cleared and all the playlist items would be back... ...Annoying but still a little workable...
Now  in version 11.0.2 as soon as you change to a different playlist your search is removed and any item in that playlist will play!!!... ...GRR!!!...
This annoys me because I've got a playlist that is the 100 oldest podcasts in iTunes... ...But depending on what I'm doing I might want to listen to audio or watch video... ...so then I do a search for an individual podcast and listen to the all the oldest episodes from that... ...and if I'm listening to audio I sometimes poke around iTunes to delete older podcasts that I've listened to or have a look in the store... ...But now as soon as you go off the playlist the search goes away and EVERYTHING is up next to play!!!... ...And it's the same for all my music playlists too... ...for example the playlist of tracks that haven't been listened to for the longest... ...If I search an artist in those playlists and then go off the list it will just play anything in the list...
Unless I've totally missed a checkbox or a right-click somewhere that will change the search and playlist behaviour...   ...Anyone have any ideas???...   ...Or are we stuck with it this way now???...

    1. Apple – iTunes – Everything you need to be entertained.
    2. You will need software to convert from .wav files to .mp3 or .mp4. There are many such applications around. Look for them at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. I have used one called HandBrake 0.9.8.

  • Smart Playlists are not syncing!

I don't remember when this stopped working but I have 1 playlist that shows in iTunes but does not update on the iPod. Not sure why... all the others seem to sync just fine. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Solution/work around:
Add a new smart play list.
File > New Smart Playlist. From this point a pop up will appear.
    Match following rule is selected
(Date added) - (In the last) - (2) - (weeks)
    No limit set
    No match only checked items
    Live update selected
    Then <ok>.
Change name of smart playlist to something like 'New Music' and Sync to IPhone/IPod.

  • Sorting playlists in ITunes 10

I just downloaded ITunes 10, and when I was making the artwork larger in one of the playlist, I accidentally sorted by album name. In this list the track numbers are from the original albums, but that's not how I want them to go in the playlist (eg, I'd want to play track one of an album, then track five, then track two, then track four of a different album. I've tried all the sort options and none of them make it how I want it. It did let me click and drag the tracks at one point, but I don't know how I did it. Is there any way to organize the playlist the way I want without changing the track numbers on the original albums?

I searched and searched for an answer, didn't see one, but sorry if this is a duplicate: Finally figured out how to undo sort by name/title/artist/etc columns after accidentally hitting the Name field and freaking out that there isn't an 'undo' option in iTunes! To get my playlist back to normal, what I did was sort my playlist by something I didn't need like 'play count'. Then right click at the top where the play count column title was. You will see all column options listed. Uncheck 'play count'. Walla, my playlist was back to normal!! phew...

  • How to: Smart Playlist...

I've got about 5200 songs in my library, and they all don't fit onto my iPhone, so I have to pick and choose. The problem is, if a song isn't assigned to a playlist , it gets lost in my my library. I'd like to make a Smart Playlist for all songs not assigned to a playlist. Anyone know what parameters I'd use? I can't seem to figure out what I need. Thanks!

That worked pretty well. I didn't realize I had so many songs that weren't assigned a playlist.
Something I didn't realize though, the car doesn't recognize Smart Playlists.
