Playlists Suddenly Swap on 2 Computers

I am absolutely baffled.  My MacBook Pro and my iMac, which are only on the same network during the weekends, have swapped Playlists.  Both computers share the same music, but never the same Playlists.  The Playlists I created on my MacBook Pro have been with me for years.  I generally don't keep that many Playlists on the iMac.  But now...poof...it's as if someone switched screens.
I can probably answer questions that anyone might have, but I don't even know where to begin to provide you with the information right now.

  • How to keep playlists in sync between two computers?

I have a MacBook Pro and a regular desktop Windows 7, and I have all of my music on both of them. However, I constantly keep adding new songs to different playlists all the time, and this makes it hard to keep everything in sync with both computers and my iPod because I usually sync from my Mac.
Right now I export the updated playlists on one of the computers and import it on the other, but it's quite the hassle just to keep some playlists in sync. I tried using home sharing, but it just keeps downloading duplicates everytime I try to import, I would've thought it was smarter by just adding the new songs but appearently it isn't.
So, anyways, is there any easy way for me to automatically keep playlists in sync between two computers?

I am indeed subscribed to iTunes Match.  Are you saying that with Match, it will sync my playlists?  I will have to check this when I get home.  That would really be a nice surprise!
I sync my iPod to iTunes on my Windows 7 box, but use iTunes on my Mac for synching my iPhone 6 and iPad 2.  Normally, I'd be modifying a playlist on the Win 7 box, adding or rearranging songs.  However, occasionally, I might download a song to the iPhone while out and about.  Then, when I'm back at the Mac, I'd do a sync and add that new song to one of the playlists.  Should Match then be keeping the playlists on the two machines in sync?
As for the library replication, I had to do that when I first signed up for Match.  I was WAY over the 25k song limit, so I made a copy of the library, and in that copy deleted enough songs to get me under the limit.  Also discovered scripting and did some really neat things with that tool.  Still have the option when I start iTunes to use the old library, just in case there's something there I need to copy to the smaller lib.

  • Can you share playlists on iTunes with other computers?

I recently started to share my iTunes library across all my home computers. I have my main libray shared and can view all the music entries. Now I wanted to see if I could share playlists already compiled among these computers.

As of now (Jan 19th, 2006) the is no programs on the PC side that allow you to build an enhanced podcast.
The closest thing comes from a Web Ap - call Audio Merge.

But it only builds an enhanced podcast that is viewable from a web browser.

  • ITunes playlists suddenly disappeared

    Hi
after working well for at least a year (even with Lion 10.7.4) all my playlists suddenly disappeared. I followed advise (from OSX Daily website) and quit iTunes (10.6.1), moved 'iTunes Music Library.xml' and 'iTunes Library.itl' folders to desktop and re-imported and started iTunes again, whereupoon I expected to see my playlists restored, BUT instead this re-import process seemed to automate a completly new duplication of all the mp3 s into the Media folder, as if by some default.
To be clear, I keep all my mp3's in Music / iTunes Music. I think iTunes really wants me to keep my mp3 files in Music / iTunes / iTunes Media / Music as this directory recongnises games and other forms of revenue for Apple but I elected to keep my files seperately and iTunes does say it allows me to do this by duly selecting the path in Preferences / Advanced, and un-check the 'keep Media folder organised' radio button...... and this has worked pretty well ....until two days ago. So what has happened to disturb the peace?
    Grateful for any advice here.

  • Dragging tracks into playlists/ within playlists suddenly a problem (itunes version 12.1.2)

I updated to 12.1.2 april 15 (its may 4 today) and literally all of a sudden this morning I cannot drag and drop any tracks into playlists, within playlists, or to devices. I can add with the right click menu option but cannot drag. I have OS X 10.10.3 and I have not made any changes to the operating system or computer. I searched google and the itunes forum and can't find any explanation that applies to my situation. Why is this happening and what can I do to fix it as quickly as possible?

i don't know... its about the most frustrating random itunes problem i've ever experienced. i still have no idea why it spontaneously started malfunctioning but i managed to "fix" it by restarting my computer... i have no idea why that seems to have worked. i saw it on a similar but not necessarily applicable thread and thought it was worth a shot before spending the next hour or so troubleshooting with apple. just looking at all the boards today trying to figure out how to fix this particular issue, there are literally so many different similar cases of so many problems with itunes that its become clear they need to start fresh... anyway, maybe see if a restart helps resolve the click and drag issue for you. good luck.

  • Why have my playlists suddenly disappeared?

    Early 2009 MacPro Quad-Core (Nehalem)
    Lion (10.7.4)
    8gb RAM
    iTunes 10.6.3
Woke my machine up this evening and found that all of the playlists in iTunes have disappeared.  All of the music is intact (all 12,588 items)....but my playlists are all MIA.  The list is compleatly blank.
Did a full power down and restart...no change.
Any ideas what happened?  I have done nothing during which the playlists could have been inadvertantly deleted.
I do have Time Machine backups on file.  Which files at what locations should I replace to get them back?

    Jim....
Thanks for the help.  However, I am afraid that this didn't change the problem.
I replaced the "iTunes Library.itl" file and still my playlists are gone.

  • How do I save my itunes playlists etc when I change computers?

I'm moving and selling my PC, but I got an external HDD to take with me and saved all my music to that. Is there a way I can also save my itunes and thus avoid remaking my playlists and saving my playcounts etc?

The following article tell you how to move your music to another computer using an iPod:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
However the method is essentially the same if you use and external disk to make the more or for that matter however you choose to copy the files across.
If you need more help, are you intending to use an external drive, that's what most people do.

  • Strange playlists suddenly appearing...

OK this is so weird. Sometimes a completely strange playlist appears in iTunes. This time it is a playlist that is called "All Marcos Music". I didn't import any playlist?
I cannot click on the playlist either since it is password protected. Does anyone know how this is happening?

Those playlists probably have a blue icon. That playlist is of someone sharing his music.
I suspect you're on a network or wireless router.
You can prevent iTunes from looking for shared music in the preferences.
You also might check your firewall settings to prevent others from peeking in your computer and tunes.
    hope this helps.

  • My time capsule suddenly stopped recognizing my computers.

My time capsule suddenly stopped recognizing both my mac book and my mac pro. It used to work fine and now every time I log into a computer I can't back up (and the time capsule has a green light). I have tried resetting time capsule but no success (maybe I am doing it wrong. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

So I have had the same problem, try this fix for Airport Extreme/Time Capsule .
Airport Utility > Select the Extreme/Time Capsule in question > Disks > Disconnect All Users
Reboot the Extreme/Time Capsule in question > once back online > goto Finder > Shared > Reconnect Drive
    > Open Time Machine Preferences > Select Disk > Use Backup disk > Backup Now
    Good Luck

  • Why have duplicate playlists suddenly appeared in my iTunes library?

When I come to sync my iPhone 5 (unfortunately using iOS 8) with my iTunes library, I hit the "music" tab and select "Selected playlists, albums, artists & genres". This has always worked free from hassle or problems. Now I have updated all my Apple devices to the newest software, there are duplicate playlists showing in the "Playlists" section, and my iPhone won't sync at all. Any suggestions? Surely I am not going to have to go through and delete each copy manually??? If that's the case, then sorry Apple, but I'm defecting. Since I installed iOS 8 I have had nothing but trouble. My MacBook Pro won't allow me to use iPhoto, my iPhone is all over the place, and I can't even make phone calls in my car (Hello?? It's a phone - I should be able to make phone calls), and my iMac iTunes account won't sync any more. HELP!!!!!!!!!

  • HT1364 I used these instructions to move my i-tunes library to the external hard drive that two different home pc's access. My playlists do not show on both Is it possible to have one i-pod synch amid two different computers that use the same library?

I have a sole i-pod and two pc's, used the instructions for "iTunes for Windows: Moving your iTunes Media folder" in the hope that I could synch my one i-pod between two different computers that are sharing the same library. Is it possible to have two seperate computers that only share an external hard drive (one wireless, one not) ? When I am looking at a shared library should it appear the same on both machines (ie: playlists/ purchased list etc)?

If it is moved correctly, playlists will display on both computers and it should be possible.
    Close iTunes.
    Hold <SHIFT> and launch iTunes.
When prompted to create a new or open an existing iTunes library point iTunes to the iTunesLibrary.itl file on the external drive.
The entire library should now show up with all playlists and playcounts.
    Do this on both computers.
Keep in mind that only one computer can access iTunes at a time, otherwise errors will occur when each computer attempts to write to or update the iTunesLibrary.itl file.
Syncing may work seemlessly with both computers, but honestly syncing is designed to work with one and only one computer.

  • 2 computers...lost playlist on nano--help!

We have two computers in our house. We bought a nano and installed everything on the "downstairs" computer. We were able to get playlists working and downloads from itunes etc. But then we installed it on "upstairs" computer and connected the nano thinking our playlists would "update" the upstairs computer but we lost our playlists. I tried to update the nano by connecting it back to the downstairs computer where our playlists are housed on itunes but every time I "update ipod" we don't get our lists back on the ipod. Please help.
PS FYI everyone.. right earbud poor--static, and yes we have scatches too.. 2nd nano in one week --firmware bad, so I was told. Looks like we are all having same problems. I thought it was just my bad luck.

    Hi,
Baased on my experience I have had to create the playlists per computer. I haven't been able to get them to transfer to another computer. I think it's because the infomation flow is one way. From your computers to the iPod and not from your iPod to the computers. I have created the same set of playlists on both of my computers.
Another way to do this is to select manual update after you have the iPod in the state you like with the right playlists. Then the bnest computer you hook up to will not overwrite the playlists.
Remember each computer you connect to will ask if you want to sync with the system. If you say yes then all the settings and music from that computer will be what you have on the ipod. Connect to another computer that is different and say yes and it changes to the settingss from that computer.
    Good luck
    Best Regards
    Yosam

  • Why are playlists syncing between computers?

I've noticed that changes made to playlists on one of our computers are synced to all other computers, though I'm not sure whether it's through home sharing or iCloud.
It doesn't really make sense to me, why would one user want to see playlists created by another? e..g. My 8 year old son doesn't need to see my Slayer playlist , and if my wife deletes a playlist on her iMac it disappears from mine too . Is there a way to stop this from happening?
    Cheers.

Good point Keith, perhaps just disabling Match on his computer and letting him copy across the music he wants via Home Sharing is more sensible.
We all have our own libraries, mine has everything on it and is used for syncing our phones and streaming to two AppleTV's, the other libraries just have music and video for that particular user.
I think I will just move playlists into individually named folders for my wife and myself and leave iCloud on, it gives her access to the whole library when my computer is turned off.
