Playlists vs Songs

I can creat and put mp3's into a play list {not library} but they show up on my
Ipod in the list I created AND in my song list..How can I put them JUST in a playlist and NOT have them show up in my songs list? Can this be done?????

To bad they don't offer more control..
If it was only in a playlist, you would have less control.
You would have to know exactly which playlist it is in if you wanted to listen to it.
If it was not like this, you would have to search all your playlists for a song or you would have to have a different copy of the song for every playlist it's in.
This way you can listen to an individual song or a playlist.
The songs are the songs.
A playlist is a list of songs.
A playlist is like a card catalog in the library.
It is only a reference to a song file.

  • I create a playlist with songs that I purchased from itunes and when I try to sync it to my iphone some of the songs are missing but when I go to the playlist in itunes the song is there.  What could be happening?  What am I doing wrong?

I've created playlists with songs I've purchased from iTunes and also added songs I've purchased from iTunes to existing playlists.  Everytime I go to sync the playlist to my iPhone I find some of the new songs missing from the playlist.  I've deleted the playlist from the phone and reinstalled it.  I don't know what I"m doing wrong. Anyone have any idea what could be the problem?

Wondering if you haven't been bitten by the new "feature" of iOS 5, as was my son. turingtest2 explained it very well in reply to my own query about "missing" songs in playlists.

  • How do I get it back to the way it was on my iTunes with my playlists and songs?

My playlists and songs have disappeared on iTunes after the most recent upgrade. The playlists and songs are still on my phone as they were since I haven't synced yet. But they completely disappeared in iTunes on my computer. So when I try to sync, it says that all the information will be deleted. I don't want to have to go through the trouble of re-doing all the playlists and adding all the songs again. It took me a while to get it the way I like it! So does anyone have a solution? Please and thank you!
Oh and the only thing that stayed on were my purchases.

Did you change the screen resolution?
You can right-click on empty space on the Desktop and open the Display Properties.
    Control > Panel > Display > Settings

  • Tip: How to play a playlist one song at a time from iTunes on a computer using the checkbox property

I would like to share a tip about how to play a playlist one song at a time from iTunes on a computer. The tip I am sharing is simple, but I was not able to find it in the iTunes Help. After searching on the internet I found the idea for this solution in a discussion in which this was presented as a frustrating problem rather than a desired behavior. This tip relies on the checkbox for each song in iTunes. For a song in a playlist to play automatically, the checkbox must be checked. To keep a song from playing in a playlist, simply uncheck it. Therefore, to keep all songs from playing automatically in a playlist, simply uncheck them all. Now you have a list of desired songs in a desired order but none of them will play automatically. You can play each one when you want to play it without having to search for the next song and without having to be at the computer to stop the playing after each song.
    Step by step:
    1. Create the playlist.
    2. Uncheck all of the check boxes in the playlist (In iTunes for Windows, ctrl click one of the check marks to uncheck all of the checkboxes at once)
    3. Now double click (or select and press spacebar) a song to play it. It will stop when finished because there is no other song checked to be played next.
    4. If you want to change back to normal sequential play, ctrl click one of the check marks again to change all of the checkboxes back to the checked status.
Based on some discussions I found while looking for a solution (including at least one in which the questioner got bashed about why anybody would ever want to do such a thing and in which the proposed solutions were things like creating one song playlists or simply press stop after each song), some may not understand why this would ever be desired.  Here's why I wanted to do it:
I was responsible for playing a series of songs at a dance. I needed to stop after each song to have a transition time to allow me to introduce the next song and to give new dancers time to get onto the floor and other dancers an opportunity to leave the floor. Furthermore, I was also dancing and didn't want to have to spend time searching for the next song (which is why I wanted to create a playlist in advance with just the songs I wanted to play in the order I wanted to play them) and I wanted each song to stop after playing since I was not at the computer to press stop.
I hope this will help others who have a similar need.

Thank you! I put some self help hypnosis tracks to listen to on my iPod. I did not want to go to the next track automatically, I wanted to listen to them individually, one at a time. (If I fell asleep, I did not want to 'wake up' in the middle of a different track.) Your information helps me understand that I need to re-load this playlist onto my iPod from my  Mac computer, only first, I need to UNCHECK the boxes in front of each track so the iPod will STOP each time after playing the selected track. It is too bad that so many functions are not availabvle within the iPod, but that is probably why they can make it so compact.

  • How do I transfer my iTunes library with the playlists and song plays from a PC to a MAC

I just recently got a MacBook and I'd like to transfer my iTunes library as well as the playlists and song plays over to this computer and i was wondering how i should go about doing so.
I've found a few tutorials on how to edit the .xml files but I haven't really succeeded in doing so.

Use an external HDD and copy the entire iTunes folder from the original computer to the Mac and place it in ~/Music.

  • When listening to music on ATV, it plays two songs from the playlist, then won't play any more.  You can see playlist and songs, but won't respond.  Any ideas?

When listening to music on ATV, it will play two songs from the playlist, then no more.  You can see the playlist on songs, but it won't play.  Turned everything off, reset the network...nothing works.  Any ideas?  It used to play fine...for hours at a time.

    Hi.  Thanks for your reply.
It is happening via "shuffle" in a playlist.  Always two different songs within the playlist.  You can see the next song on the screen that should, theoretically, be playing...but nothing happens.  Even when you push "play" on the remote, it doesn't receive the command.
I reset, then restored ATV.  Now, it doesn't limit itself to two songs, but does stop after a few.  The more trial and error I do, the more I believe the problem is with Homesharing in iTunes.  If I turn off Homeshare, then turn it back on, a couple more songs will play in the playlist.  I have shut down iTunes, restarted computer, completed updates, but nothing seems to change it.
It used to play fine for hours on end, but has now found this glitch.

  • I updated my iPod/iTunes software and now I can't get it to shuffle songs in a playlist; it either shuffles albums in a playlist or songs on the whole iPod

I updated my iPod/iTunes software and now I can't get it to shuffle songs in a playlist; it either shuffles albums in a playlist or songs on the whole iPod, neither of which is what I want to do.  How do I get it to shuffle songs in just one playlist?

The shuffle setting in the main menu will shuffle through the entire library as you have found out.
You need to go to settings>shuffle this will toggle through off/song/album. Once you have set this it will stay the same until you change the setting.
Now when you start playing a song in a playlist the iPod will shuffle through that playlist (or if you select your song through artist then it will shuffle through all the songs for that artist etc)

  • Somehow, my iTunes music disappeared.  I restored it with Time Machine and have all of my music.  However, my playlists and song ratings did not restore.  Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to restore my playlists and ratings?  Thanks.

Somehow, my iTunes music vanished from iTunes.  I was able to restore my music from Time Machine, but I lost my playlists and song ratings.  Does anyone know how I can restore the playlists and ratings?  Thanks in advance for any help.

iTunes as you see it is more than just a file or two.  It is all the contents of the iTunes folder including the critical library.itl file.  That holds pretty much all the information about what you see when you start iTunes.  You need to restore the whole iTunes folder, not just media files.

  • How do I create a playlist from songs in other playlists?

Before updating my iPhone 5 to iOS 7, I used to be able to create a playlist by choosing songs that were already in other playlists. Now, when I click on Create Playlist, the only options I have on the bottom of the screen are to choose from Songs, Artists, Songs and Composers. I want to create a playlist from songs that are in my other playlists, such as Purchased or Favorites, for example, instead of scrolling through a couple thousand songs to find (and remember) the ones  I want. What I can do bring that option back? I've looked in my settings and haven't found anything I can do about it. Any knowledgable people in this area, please suggest solutions.

In list view click on the far left column which allows you to drag to desired play order.

  • How to identify which playlists a song is in?

As I organize my songs into playlists, I sometimes find I hadn't put a song into a playlist when I thought I had. Is there any way to show which playlists a song belongs to?

Right click on the song, and hit Show in Playlist.

  • When I burn a disk from my playlist the songs are out of order. How can I fix this? Thanks!

When I burn a disk from my playlist the songs are out of order. How can I fix this? Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure but I think you create your play order manually then select the playlist, right click it (or use ctrl+click) & select "Copy to play order".
I think when you burn that playlist it should obey that order, it has been so long since I made a mix CD that I'm not certain, good luck.

  • Can I see what Playlist my song is in by holding Option

I just read in Mac Life mag that using Address Book I can hold the option key and see what groups a contact is in - they are highlighted in Yellow. Cool, so how can I see what Playlist my Song is in using iTunes? I bet this would be a fantastic feature and one millions of people would welcome. What do you say - is there a way? A secret way?

    Hi John,
Control click the track/Show in Playlist. Might be able to right click also depending on your mouse.

  • Playlist of songs missing artwork

Not sure how to word this correctly, but is there anyway of making a playlist of songs that have missing artwork?  I don't want a program that will find them and automatically add it from amazon or iTunes, but would just like a list of what songs are missing the artwork, then be able to put it in on my own.  I know there is a program that used to do this - but new computer and forgot what the program was called... Any help would be greatly appreciated - [email protected]

Well, I am not sure if there's a way to only view the songs that are on your ipod inside iTunes but, I know that if you bought them on the iPod that iTunes creates a playlist of only songs that you bought on that device. Another thing you can do, is command click on each song that you want to add to a play list and it will drag all the selected songs into that play list, then, what you can do is, go to File, Library, Export Play List, and select the play list that has only the songs you want. It should give you a .xml file, which you can then store on an external hard drive. Later, if you need to add that play list, you can go to File, Library, Import Play List, and select the play list you made. Hope that helps.
Ps. Command clicking on files, allows you to select more than one at a time. And Shift click allows you to select all the files under or above a certain file, up to a certain point. Like if you have, files 1-5, you can Shift click on file 1 and file 5 and it will select files 1-5 for you.

  • How do I easily find out what playlist my songs are in?

I'm an iTunes novice and have about 3000 songs on my computer. I've put most of them on playlists but compared some numbers and discovered that there are a couple hundred stragglers that I haven't put on playlists.
Is there a way to quickly/easily see what playlist my songs are in? It would be great to have a "view" option column showing playlists. I know I can right-click on each individual song and do "show in playlist," but that's a real pain in the neck when you're dealing with thousands of songs.
    I'm open to any suggestions!

    Welcome to AD!
All I can think of, is a smart playlist 'match all' where
    playlist is not playlist1
    playlist is not playlist2,
    etc
except.....you need to leave out the main playlist, Music, from that

  • TS4062 Not all of my playlists and songs sync from my Mac to my iphone, any ideas?

Not all of my playlists and songs sync from my Mac to my iphone, any ideas?

Just got through flailing with the same problem within the hour.  It turned out I had music purchased with an earlier Apple ID in iTunes.  My solution was to authorize the computer in iTunes with the previous ID and then all music would sync.  Might try that.
