Playlists vs. tracks in folders

I just made a new folder in ITunes 10 (Mac) and dragged several related playlists into it. I then dragged the folder into my iPod Classic. On iTunes, the opened folder shows the playlists. On the iPod, going to the folder shows the individual tracks (in the same order as the playlists, but not as separate playlists). If I play one track, it will finish and go on to the next until every track in the folder has played.
I have another folder of playlists made in an earlier version of iTunes. On the iPod, this folder shows each playlist as a set of songs and will just play through that playlist and stop. I would like to be able to make more of this kind of folder.
Other info: both the older and newer folder shows up on iTunes near the top of the Playlist section in the sidebar, before the smart folders. On the iPod, the older folder is alphabetized along with the smart playlists and its icon is a folder; the newer folder is alphabetized along with the playlists and its icon is a playlist icon.
So, how do I get the new folder treated like a folder on the iPod? TIA.

I kept searching after posting this, and discovered this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/9803216?messageID=9803216#9803216?messageI D=9803216
Basically, it says that if I set up an automatic sync properly, I should get folders on the iPod, but that this can't be done manually. I plan to try (not today) and will report back.

  • BURN MP3 TRACKS WITHOUT FOLDERS

HOW DO I BURN AN MP3 DISC WITH JUST TRACKS? MY PLAYLISTS BURN WITH MULTIPLE FOLDERS WITH TRACKS INSIDE THE FOLDERS.
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP!!!

Thanks a million for the tip on sorting by song title. It worked great for what I needed. Now I show 1 folder with all 50 tracks in order ready to go!!
Sort the songs how you want, drag them directly from
the playlist to the CD/DVD drive icon in My Computer
    and then Burn them.
    You don't need iTunes.
I really appreciate the additional tip as well!!!
For some reason this suggestion is not working for me. I tried dragging and dropping the playlist itself, then the songs inside the playlist, both to the dvd/cd RW icon and opened the icon and dropping inside that. I put a cd in the drive to see if that was it and re-did all of the above and got nothing. I also "selected all" and did a copy/paste. No song files appear in the display??????
I must not have it right. Any suggestions?

  • Smart Playlists and Track Count

Don't think this is possible - but is there anyway to access the track count field within the the smart playlist system (not the track number).
I'm tidying up my data and want a playlist which contains music without a set track count.

I have a very similar set of playlists and noticed that they have stopped working recently - I assumed that the 3.0 upgrage did it. Its very annoying, and I might end up reverting to the 2.x sofware if possible, becuase that feature is more important to me than the 3.0 imprivements...
iPhones also won't let you create folders of playlists or refer to folders in playlists. I was hoping they would at last include that functionality in 3.0, but it looks like they've taken a step backwards instead.

  • Playlist prints track listings on top of one another....looks like big black blob

Playlist prints tracks all within one inch or so.........this has happened before.......don't recall what I did to fix.

After going through two Apple 23 inch cinema displays, I threw in the towel and purchased a ViewSonic 23inch cinema display. I am very pleased with it. Absolutely none of the backlight bleed that was a problem with the Apple monitor. They accepted the return without any restocking fee, leading me to believe Apple is aware a problem exists with them.

  • How to import a complex mp3  folder strucutr in itunes and automated create playlists namend after this folders?

    Hi to all,
I have a Problem. I organised since years my mp3 music in folders with subfolders and so on. I didnt create any playlists. Now i want to use itunes and ipod/ipone. How can i import a the complex mp3  folder strucutr in itunes and automated create playlists namend after this folders?
I understood how to import the music in the media library but i dont want to creat hundreds of playlists by hand.
    Maybe someone has a tip?
    Thank to all
    Andy

iTunes doesn't take any notice of your folder structure or provide any automatic way to use any information that might be coded in the path. Can you describe the current layout in a bit more detail and explain what you hope to achieve. It may be possible to use tools in other program's such as MediaMonkey or custom scripts to get the data from the file paths into something that iTunes can work with. The most important thing at this stage is not to import media to iTunes without first making sure under Edit > Preferences > Advanced that Keep iTunes Media folder organized and Copy to iTunes Media folder when adding to library are turned off otherwise iTunes may destroy your existing structure.

  • I have a playlist of tracks that are not in my music library

It is my understanding that all of your music resides within your Music Library and from there you can create playlists, whether Smart Playlists or just Playlists, but your playlists do not contain anything that isn't in your main Music Library.
I have a standard playlist that contains over 400 tracks where many are not in my Music Library from various different artists, albums and genres.
Is there a way to get the music within the playlist back into my Music Library without going in artist by artist Adding tracks?

All Tag edits were and are done within iTunes.
This specific Playlist was created over a year ago with an earlier version of iTunes.  I just went through the process of changing information on a few of those tracks within the Playlist I have problems with and the current version of iTunes is not copying the music files, but moving them.
I think that this must have been a bug in whatever version of iTunes I was using last year when I first started working on my Tags.
I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but just last month I had iTunes Convert the ID3 Tags on everything within my Music Library
turingtest2 - I have not tried your suggestion yet, but I will let you know what happens.  Right now, I'm just trying to get rid of the duplicated tracks without Tag updates I've made.

  • Itunes add "alone" playlist and tracks i've suppressed...

    Hi everyone.
Friend of mine had some trouble with itunes. She suppressed some tracks and playlists in her itunes library and everytime she connect her ipod or relaunch the app, everything comes back (finding only the infos of songs, not the songs files, so they show up with the exclamation mark). Already suppressed everything on the ipod and sync it again without the songs she has previously suppressed on her computer. But when relaunching itunes on the computer, everything comes back again... What to do then?
    Thanks for help.

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • Playlists with tracks flagged with "Skip while shuffling" do not advance

I manually manage my podcasts outside of iTunes and create playlists in iTunes so that I can arrange them and set album art before dropping them on to my iPod. Since I use the "Shuffle Songs" feature on my iPod routinely, I do not want the podcast tracks to be mixed with the rest of my music, so I set each podcast track with "Skip while shuffling".
The resultant behavior on my 4G iPod works as expected where I can go onto the playlist that I created for a Podcast and let it play in shuffle mode and it will go from one track to the next (I have Shuffle set to Song and Repeat to All in the Settings menu).
With the iPod Classic, when I play a track with the same settings as my 4G iPod, the track that I select will play over and over. If I try to advance to the next track by pressing ">>" on the wheel, the track starts over again.
Is this an actual behavior change with the iPod Classic or a bug? I definitely do not consider it as a feature :P
It's quite annoying that I am still using my 4G iPod for playing podcasts, which kind of makes buying the iPod Classic almost pointless.
    Thanks.

*so I set each podcast track with "Skip while shuffling".*

If your iPod Settings -> Shuffle is set to On, none of the podcasts will play unless you select a specific podcast and press Play. Then only one podcast will play.
*Shuffle Songs* on the main menu will shuffle all unless it is set to *Skip when shuffling*.
If Settings -> Shuufle is set to Off and you play a playlist, it is not shuffled therefore everything in the playlist will play.
Sounds like you do not have this turned on, on the Classic.

  • Playlist - fading tracks in and out

    Hi,
I'm making a playlist for a friend's party - when I play music through iTunes on the PC, the tracks fade into one another - can I play them back like this through my iPod?
    Thanks!

oh right! i'd seen that before, but wow, i totally forgot. thanks so much!

  • Create multiple playlists by dragging multiple folders?

As the subject says, I'd like to be able to drag multiple folders into iTunes' Playlist column to create a playlist for each folder (and given the same names as each folder). Unfortunately, iTunes only creates one folder named "Untitled Playlist" when multiple folders are added. My music library is divided into hundreds of folders, each named for the artist who's music is contained within. Having to individually drag each folder into iTunes is a royal pain.
Is there a shortcut or key combination that will allow this? Or is this just a major iTunes feature shortcoming? I can only hope that this is addressed in a future update.

Creating a playlist for each artist is also a pain, especially when iTunes does this automatically.
iTunes menu View -> Show browser.
Select the Genre, Artist, Album (or multiple items) to see only those items.
The more playlists you have the more it will slow down as i tneeds to rewrite the iTunes library file and iTunes library.xml after almost anything you do in iTunes such as listen to a song, skip a song, cahnge any info, etc.

  • How do i delete albums, playlists or tracks?

how do i delete albums, playlists or tracks

To delete an item from your library:
Click the item to select it, and press the Delete key.
    Click Remove.
    Do one of the following:
To remove the item only from your iTunes library, click Keep File.
To delete the item from your computer, click Move to Trash. The item is deleted the next time you empty the Trash.
Removing an item from a playlist doesn’t remove it from your iTunes library or your computer. Deleting a playlist or folder doesn’t remove the songs from your library or hard disk.
When you delete a folder, all the playlists and folders inside that folder are also deleted.
You might not be able to remove songs from a Smart Playlist that has “Live updating” turned on, because the playlist is continually updated.

  • Can I edit the "purchased" playlist to track songs from Amazon?

My smart playlist for "purchased" songs is set to track "purchased AAC" or "protected AAC." This picks up everything from Itunes but nothing purchased from Amazon. Is there a way to edit to retrieve those tracks as well?
    Thanks.

    Zevoneer wrote:
You need to be able to add criteria to a smart playlist that will be unique to those tracks if you want to pick them up automatically.
Correct. Music from Amazon is not DRM-protected so iTunes sees it no differently from any other DRM-free media file. Music you purchase from the iTunes Store is in a specific format, protected AAC, so you can filter than content.

  • Cannot create Smart Playlist for tracks to upgrade using iTunes Match

I just subscribed to iTunes Match and am trying to use a Smart Playlist to identify the tracks that can be upgraded following the instructions in this article:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1163620/how_to_upgrade_tracks_to_itunes_match_fa st.html
When I try to create the smart playlist, I get "This smart playlist contains one or more conditions which are empty or conflict with each other. This will result in never matching a song. Are you sure you want to save this playlist?".  I've narrowed it down to the iCloud Status settings.  I can create a playlist with either Matched or Purchased; however, I get the message above when specifying both.  Any ideas?

You need to make sure the rule for these 2 is Match Any, not Match all.

  • When burning CD from Playlist - No Track Names or CD Title

After the new update installed iTunes doesn't bun the CDs with a title or track names. What happened. The playlist is named and all tracks have information. This is not copyprotected material. Worked until the update.

It sounds like you are having a similar problem to the one I was having when I was downloading my cds to itunes. The whole album would download but some of the songs would be on a different thumbnail instead of in the same album. Although the albums had the "artist" listed already it would still go to a separate thumbnail. It took me a while to search and figure it out through trial and error but if you right click on the album and when the tab pops up you go to "get info" and select "yes" you want to "edit information for multiple items" you must input the "album artist" and it will automatically import it into the correct album it originally came from. Some of them you have to input the information manually through the "get info". Hope this helps!!!
