Playlists vs Your Music

As a new user, I suspect that at some time Playlists were part of "Your Music", because the Spotify Help Solutions page says Your Music is "the place in Spotify where you’ll find your playlists [emphasis mine] and the songs, albums, and artists you’ve added."* However, on the current Mac client "PLAYLISTS" is an entirely separate category from "YOUR MUSIC". And when I add to my playlists, the albums I add don't show up under "Your Music" I do almost all my listening through playlists. I still haven't figured out the value of doing the extra step of adding an album to "Your Music" after I've added to one of my playlists. Am I doing something wrong--should music in my playlists automatically show up in "Your Music"? Can someone who has a similar usage pattern to me (almost exclusively Playlists, but my want to randomly select old albums to add to my current Rotation playlist)) help me with whether and how to use "Your Music"? *https://support.spotify.com/ca-en/problems/#!/article/what-is-your-music

Playlists are located in Your Music if you're on a mobile device. But not on the desktop. I use playlists almost exclusively simply because Your Music sucks for albums. For keeping tracks of good songs from 2015 I have a playlist called "songs from 2015" and ditto for albums. And I definitely don't think the music in my playlists should end up in Your Music. Now, there used to be a way to view playlists as an album list with artwork (by pressing ctrl-g / cmd-g) but for some reason Spotify removed that function two years ago and never brought it back. So now playlists basically suck for albums too. Go figure. I'd like Spotify to tweak Your Music by copying the Itunes way of organizing music. A list of artists to the left, and their albums to the right. And add a number of viewing options for playlists too while you're at it. Make it flexible!

  • Songs saved in playlists need to show up In the New Categories under 'Your Music"

I pretty much used to use the Spotify Playlist function to save albums. Now that the new Your Music Feature is out I cansave songs. The problem is....all the work that I did creating these playlists now goes to waste. I know their are a huge number of users who did this. Is there a way to convert these playlists into Artists, Songs, and Playlists? They dont show up in any of them at all now. I dont understand why these would be completely separate and not integrated.

First - I totally agree that the separation of playlists and 'your music' is ridiculous.  It's annoying that all the work I put into creating playlists has to be done again.
After reading this thread, it appears that in order to get your playlists to appear in your music you just drag and drop the album over.  Am I doing something wrong?  Dragging and dropping the playlist or the album into 'your music' does nothing.  see screencast.
anyone else try any spotify competitors and have better luck?  considering switching.

  • [All Platforms][Your Music] Weekly Discovery Playlists

I have a couple of ideas for the Weekly Discovery Playlist. I think the idea behind the Discovery Playlist is great and receiving a bunch of new stuff regularly is fantastic. However, because there is such a lot to get through, I think it would be good if the contents of previous lists could be retained when the new list is released either in an additional playlist or by adding new content to the existing list. Another idea might be to release a new playlist every two weeks to give users the time to familiarise themselves with the content and give them time to add that content to their own playlists or Your Music?

  • Is there a way to auto sync playlists while manually managing your music?

I used to use WMP11 before I bought an iPod and used iTunes, and in that I was able to auto sync playlists to my Samsung dap, as well as being able to manually drag tracks/albums to it.
Since using iTunes, I have found it is not as accessible in this regard. Of course, you can opt to manually manage your music, but if you do this, it does not auto sync any info. This means that if I drag a playlist to my iPod and alter it at a later stage by adding more tracks, it won't alter it on the iPod unless I manually replace it with the amended one. It also means that any ratings that I set on my iPod do NOT get transfered to the tracks in iTunes when connected.
What I have done is set a playlist called 'iPod Tracks' in iTunes, and have dragged any extra albums to my iPod using that, as well as the smart playlist 'Top Tracks'. But the disadvantage of this is, if I drag a few songs from an album into my 'iPod Tracks' playlist, then later decide I want the whole album and drag that over, I end up with two of the same tracks in the playlist, which makes it look very untidy (although I am aware only one of each track will be on the iPod) so it is not ideal.
Surely there must be a way to auto sync playlists so that when you amend them in iTunes it does so on the iPod too, as well as manually drag over any extra tracks/albums you want without having a messy playlist work-around like I have done.
    Any help/ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

There is no way to sync content back to itunes. As you are aware there are a couple of unsupported ways to recover your content, you will need to decide if your content is valuable enough to go down this route.
If so and you are not comfortable with the procedures, I suggest taking the unit to a data recovery specialist with mac experience.

  • In the new iTunes 11 where is the genius sidebar that used to be on the right hand side of your music playlist?

In the old version of iTunes you had a genius sidebar on the right hand side of your music library that showed similar artists and songs to the song that was currently being played or highlighted in your personal library. Where is that function in the new iTunes 11?

I looked under file but I couldn't find the "Genius & Playlist" option. I also looked under the other options on the top left side but I couldn't find it there either. And all "Genius suggestions" does for me is show similar songs already purchased in my library. It doesn't show me anything new that I haven't purchased.

  • Why can I no longer watch music videos in full screen mode via a playlist in the music app since upgrading to ios7?

Since upgrading to ios7 my iPhone 4S no longer allows me to watch music videos in full screen mode when I select the clips via a playlist from the music app.
It's now more necessary than before to use the music app rather than the video app to select music videos to play.  That's because the video app doesn't list music videos by artist any more. And also because the fast forward and rewind buttons on headphones remote no longer work on videos.
How do I watch full screen videos when rotating my iphone now shows my music library rather than showing the video itself?

I do not think it is a problem to play videos in the full screen mode using the video app.  It should work just fine, it does work ok for me  on iphone 5.  The original question was to play music videos in the music app.  Music videos and videos are two different things - I am not sure why but they are.
The problem here is that the music app supports lists and the video app does not.  I just looked at the ios7 video app and while my few test videos are shown in it, the lists they were in (in iTunes) are nowhere to be found.  There is no lists in the video app - period - which is as it was before.
The video app plays videos and music videos in the full screen mode no problem but if you have a few hundreds or more of such videos you will have hard time finding the one you want to play.  There is simply no way to categorize or group videos.  The old good folders/directories are, I guess, too simple for Apple.  It is just too bad that for years on end the world's leader in S/W development did not offer anything to categorize videos.
You have lists, albums, etc., for music, you have albums for pictures but you have absolutely nothing for videos.  And this is and has been the Apple's state-of-the art solution for this problem - simply insist that the problem does not exist.  Actually it is getting worse.  Not only there is nothing to categorize or group videos but now the only way it could be done (by marking videos as music videos and using the music app) results in a mini playback area.
Soon this OS will be able to cook dinner for your but grouping videos... no way.
    What is happening here???

    Hello Salmomma,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when trying to connect your iPhone to your Mac.  I recommend following the steps in the tutorial below for an issue like this:

Additionally, you can delete music directly from the iPhone by swiping the song:

To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
Delete the "songs" that do not play in your iTunes library and reimport them.

  • How do you manage to sync your music with your iPhone/iPod?

    Hello everyone!
I want to ask you how you manage to keep your music library synced with your iPhone/iPod.
For years I managed to copy music onto the iOS device manually as my iTunes library was way to large to fit my iOS device.
Some months ago I created a playlist called "iPhone music". Then I created smart playlists which amongst others followed the rule "Playlist is iPhone music". That works so far and makes sure I do not try syncing more music than I have space on my iPhone (I always have an eye on the "iPhone music" playlist).
But maybe anyone of you uses a better and smarter way? Thanks for any ideas and suggestions!

    Then be more specific.
Creat a list with your top rated trance music, or put a keyword in certain songs and make smart playlists using keywords or simply limit the size of the smart playlist.
You can make =these playlist in just about any manner you wish.  They are very flexible.

  • Undo/Redo Actions for Your Music on Desktop

Right now you can only use the undo/redo actions for playlists.
Add the ability to undo/redo actions you make to "Your Music" in the desktop app.
    Menu bar:
    Edit --> Undo
    Edit --> Redo
Maybe you accidentally removed a song from Your Music and you want to undo it.

oh cool, this is over six months old and it still hasn't been addressed.

  • How do I access Your Music on the iPad app?

I mostly listen to albums, not playlists.
I used to keep all my saved albums on Spotify as playlists - but following the update I re-saved them all as saved albums under 'Your Music' (on the new desktop app for OS X) and deleted my old playlists (assuming I wouldn't need them anymore).
This was fine on my iPhone as now I can access my saved albums under the 'Your Music' However, I then tried this on my iPad and couldn't find a way to access 'Your Music' at all?
How do I access 'Your Music' and/or saved albums on the iPad app?
