Playlists with tracks flagged with "Skip while shuffling" do not advance
I manually manage my podcasts outside of iTunes and create playlists in iTunes so that I can arrange them and set album art before dropping them on to my iPod. Since I use the "Shuffle Songs" feature on my iPod routinely, I do not want the podcast tracks to be mixed with the rest of my music, so I set each podcast track with "Skip while shuffling".
The resultant behavior on my 4G iPod works as expected where I can go onto the playlist that I created for a Podcast and let it play in shuffle mode and it will go from one track to the next (I have Shuffle set to Song and Repeat to All in the Settings menu).
With the iPod Classic, when I play a track with the same settings as my 4G iPod, the track that I select will play over and over. If I try to advance to the next track by pressing ">>" on the wheel, the track starts over again.
Is this an actual behavior change with the iPod Classic or a bug? I definitely do not consider it as a feature :P
It's quite annoying that I am still using my 4G iPod for playing podcasts, which kind of makes buying the iPod Classic almost pointless.

If your iPod Settings -> Shuffle is set to On, none of the podcasts will play unless you select a specific podcast and press Play. Then only one podcast will play.
*Shuffle Songs* on the main menu will shuffle all unless it is set to *Skip when shuffling*.
If Settings -> Shuufle is set to Off and you play a playlist, it is not shuffled therefore everything in the playlist will play.
Sounds like you do not have this turned on, on the Classic.

"Skip While Shuffling" option not being preserved
I just noticed that in iTunes 11.1.3 (OS 10.9) I am unable to preserve my selection for podcasts and audio books to "Skip While Shuffling." The issue is when my iTunes media sync to my iPod Nano(s) the audobooks an podcasts play when shuffling and are not skipped - I hate it.
Here are the steps I take:
1. Locate offending podcast or audio book.
2. Get Info—> Options —> Skip While Shuffling.
3. Check the box for "Skip While Shuffling."
4. Click OK.
I can successfully mark songs to "Skip While Shuffling" but not podcasts or audiobooks.
Any clues or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Question about skip while shuffling
i use the feature 'skip while shuffling' for quite a few songs because i don't like it when they just pop up in a shuffle
however i have a playlist full of all of those types of songs and i'd like them to be able to play when i'm using shuffle inside this playlist
is there any way to do this? because currently when i use shuffle in this playlist only a few songs which have not been set to 'skip while shuffling' will play
the only solution i could think of was to put all the music i want to listen to in a normal shuffle in one playlist and then uncheck 'skip while shuffling on all the songs that i don't normally want to hear while shuffling so that then i can listen to them shuffled in their playlist and not hear them when i shuffle with all my other music, but i don't really want to do this as it would be a rather huge effort and whenever i added new music i'd have to remember to add them to the correct playlistsHello user13553753.
I've been trying to find anything that will allow the SKIP and FIX to work together researching and testing on 10gR2, to no avail.
The only recommendation that I can make beyond what you are already doing, excluding the SKIP option, increasing the LOAD by 1 to account for the header record and using a WHEN clause on the VAL3 column, is extending the WHEN clause to evaluate the full header recordWHEN (1:7) ne 'HEADER 'replacing the 'ne' with less than and greater than signs.
Although this is a bit of an improvement, I would still recommend evaluating the number of records discarded and confirm that this value is only 1, otherwise you could possibly discard actual data. Additionally, I would also add some comments explaining the LOAD value accounting for the header record that will be discarded to improve supportability.

Cannot select "skip while shuffling" option
I recently purchased a 3rd Generation iPod Touch and started using iTunes again. I had a 2nd Generation Classic iPod so I am not new to using iTunes though it has been a few years since I used it. I am having an issue that is driving me a little crazy and hope someone can help. I have a lot of kid songs and Christmas songs in my iTunes and have them in a playlist of their own, however, when I shuffle all songs (which is usually what I do) they continue to play. I was able to turn this off before by right clicking the song in iTunes, choosing "get info" then opening the "options" tab and check marking the box labeled "skip while shuffling" but this option is not available to me now. The "skip while shuffling" words are light gray and cannot be changed as well as most of the options in this tab. Can someone tell me why and how I can fix it? Please, I am tired of getting up and going to my iPod dock to skip songs so frequently when all I want to do is sit and relax and listen to some music!

NicoleThanks Mike - I just imported 83 mpeg audio files from a CD of old radio shows and wanted to exclude them all from being shuffled. Doug Adams' script works like a charm.

My 06' Macbook Pro crashed with vertical, green pixelated lines and now will not advance past the turn-on screen with the apple filled with green lines as well. Then, it says to hold down the power button to restart. I have tried several times to get it past this point but tnothing helped.
I have an appointment at the Apple store today, but was wondering : will all of the information and files on my desktop be lost? Or is this a logic board problem?
Any help is much MUCH appricated.I'm not sure, if you're out of warrenty it'll cost quite a bit for the replacement of the logic board replacement...unless you have apple care. you could ask apple to try and recover your hard drive but i'm not sure.

When using firefox 4 with amazon if locks up while IE does not this is only since upgrading to 4

a gap between letters started to show in my indesign files. tried to undo with tracking, then with the paragraph settings. nothing helped. it ruins the fluent view of the document. how can i restore the program so that doesn't happen?
for example: say i write a paragraph. then, in a weird some sort of way an involuntary gap suddenly appears between different letters of random words(i did not recognize any pattern to the gap appearing) throughout the entire paragraph. once i've double clicked on that paragraph, and made a minor change, lets say tapped a 'space' key, and then clicked ctrl+z to undo, it has aligned(or fixed) the entire paragraph and made it look ok again. i've tried numerous ways to undo the entire thing, but cannot find the reason. i've been working for a few years and there's no reason why this thing all of a sudden should happen right now.
if anyone has stumbled on something like that and can advise, i would welcome it.

if you look closely you'll see that almost every line has a single letter apart. in hebrew there is no usually a singe letter structured words. -
Problem with "Skip when shuffling"
OK I have a 2nd Gen iPod Nano 2gig.
I have several audio books that I do not want to come up when I'm shuffling. Each audiobook has it's own playlist and I set them all to "Skip when shuffling". It works fine...until I listen to those audiobooks. The minute I listen to one of the chapters it will undo the "skip when shuffling" option on that particular chapter and any other chapters I listen to.
Any suggestions on how to get them to stay on "skip when shuffling"??Well I figured out how to fix this, with no help from this forum. If you're going to store songs on your iPod that you want "Skip when Shuffling" turned on, make sure you turn it one BEFORE you sync them to your iPod.

Copied my iTunes from my Mac to my Windows 7 laptop, now there are thousands of songs missing on the Windows copy with the exclamation point. everything shows up, playlists and tracks, there are just a bunch of songs with exclamation points. how can i properly sync my iTunes from my Mac to my PC? using iTunes

Create a Playlist from external folder with tracks already existing in iTunes
I was just wondering if its possible to create a playlist from an external folder (on my desktop) with tracks that already exist in iTunes.
I basically have a folder on my desktop that i use with Serato, i was wondering if it'd be possible to sort a playlist in iTunes with the tracklist from the folder? I already have all the tracks on iTunes so i don't want to add them onto iTunes again just to put them into a playlist as i'd have to sort through all the duplicates to delete the non playlisted tracks (theres around 1500 so it wouldn't be a quick task).

This script need Spotlight metadata, all files in the folder that you use with Serato should be indexed.
Works well if the tags (name and artist) are defined
In this script :
it will display a dialog to select your folder
iTunes search track from the library playlist according to (artist, album and title in the Spotlight metadata of each file).
If iTunes found a track, iTunes will add this track to the new playlist.
The script takes 35 seconds for 1000 files on an old machine (PowerMac G5 2 X 1.8 GHz) .
This should take less than 100 seconds for 3500 files on the new machine

I am having trouble with the music from my bluetooth "skipping" on my IPhone 5. I thought that this was an antiquated problem with the new technology. It's very frustrating to purchase all of this music and expect great sound and playability and get "skipping". Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?
Does the issue occur when listening to the media using the speaker or wired headphones? If it does, the issue is with the media itself.
If it does not, it's likely a bad connection or interference. -
Smart Playlists no longer updated with iOS 4.3 on iPhone 4
I've run into an issue with the latest iOS 4.3 update: my smart playlists are no longer dynamically being updated on my iPhone 4.
All of my main playlists are smart: they exclude songs that I've played in the past week. Earlier today when I'd play a song and it went to the next one, it'd immediately remove the song from the playlist (so I was always on track 1 of XXX). With 4.3, this is no longer happening and the smart playlist only dynamically updates when I sync my phone with my computer. This is annoying because it means that I can end up hearing the same song again if I switch playlists.
Anyone else run into this? Any fixes? I tried rebooting my phone to no avail.My results differ from yours.
With iOS 4.0x, 4.1 and 4.2x my smart playlists with live updating were broken. It would start with track 1 of 5, then 2 of 4, then 3 of 3, 4 of 2, then would generally crash the iPod app. If I left the playlist and re-entered it would have removed the entries already played, but I would find that some of the entries that should have played had actually been skipped in m playlist.
With iOS 4.3, my playlists are properly working for me again. Now they play 1 of 5, 2 of 5, 3 of 5, ... If I return to the playlist while it is playing, I see that the entries that have already played are removed, and if I leave the playlist to return later, it starts over a 1 of 2, 2 of 2...
I have posted another thread of how I have my playlists defined, so perhaps that would help you. I do recall that there were some conditions that used to cause problems if used in a smart playlist.
