Playlists won't update - ipod wiped clean

Somebody help me before I go insane!!!
Updated to the latest versions of ipod updater and iTunes.
Now - whenever I try and update my ipod I get the following message:-
"songs on your ipod cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exist"
And for good measure - my ipod is now completely wiped clean.
I can see all the playlists in iTunes - all the songs I want on my ipod are selected - what is going on?
I'm three days into giving up smoking after 15 years - I don't need this...please help!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks very much - yep - you're quite right - I did delete the playlist that iTunes automatically created - which is totally my fault...although surely the software should warn you that deleting playlists automatically created by iTunes is not a wise thing to do?
Anyway - thanks again, life saver

  • IPod playlists won't update with iTunes 6

I just downloaded iTunes 6, and when I connected my iPod, it basically erased the 1,000 songs I had on it and "updated" my playlist/iPod with a random 450 songs. I got an error message saying that not all of my playlists could be updated because my software is too old. But I have the newest software...help is greatly appreciated!!

    hi Cathleen!
    The updater is 2004-04-28.
Kathy's giving you good advice. there's a few extra details on how to go about updating your ipod software given in here:

  • Help? iTunes won't update iPod

When I plug in my iPod, iTunes recognizes the iPod and lists it on the column on the left as "Todd's iPod" - but it won't update the songs I have in iTunes onto the iPod. Is there something I can do to manually to make it update?

iTunes 10.2.x requires Mac OS X 10.5.x or later. If you're still running 10.4.11 like you have listed in your profile then you need to upgrade before you can install the newer iTunes.
If you have 10.5.x or later then just uninstall your current version and download the new one from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

  • Itunes won't update, ipod unusable without it

I have an ipod touch. I have been really good about keeping my itunes up to date. The last version I updated to was early this year. It keeps telling me I need to update but that it failed to update after download and that I need to manually install.
I plugged my ipod in and it asked me to update the ipod software so I did. Then it tells me that the ipod won't work unless I have the 10.0.1. But when I go to itunes and download itunes 10.0.1 it downloads but won't install and tells me I have an invalid drive F:/. I don't even have a drive F. I can't use my ipod now, I turn it on and I have the picture of the ipod being plugged into itunes. But itunes won't update. Nothing online or in any thread I have found has given me a solution. I am very frustrated. Is there anything I can do? Or do I need to uninstall itunes and lose all my music and apps?

I just put a flash drive into a USB port and then it started the install and when it asked where I wanted to put it I changed it from drive F to C.

  • 'Recently Played' playlist won't update after 2.0 upgrade

I purchased the 2.0.1 update in July. Prior to the update, I would go through play various songs, then later go to the 'Recently Played' playlist and listen to them again, shuffle, etc. Since the update, this playlist will not update at all. I must have played at least 25 different songs yesterday trying to get the playlist to update, I show one song in my 'Recently Played' playlist. Still having problem after 2.1 update a week or so ago. Anyone else having this issue?

I've tried these workarounds but they don't seem to work (on any current iPod.)
Lots of discussion regarding Smart Playlist synching on the iPhone here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1067876
...but none of the suggested workarounds seem to working for me.
There are two issues, it seems.
    1) synching the results of a smart playlist from iTunes to the iPod
    2) updating of smart playlists, on-the-fly, on the iPod itself
#1 is working for me. It's #2 I'm having no success with, and I'm wondering if Apple just abandoned the feature when it broke.
To reiterate. Leave the computer out of the equation for a moment. All I want is a "Recently Played" smart playlist that updates on-the-fly on the iPhone, no synching required. Is this not possible?
If not, that's a step backwards. It used to work on older iPods.

  • ITunes won't update iPod

iTunes works normally until i want to sync it to my iPod. Then it says the usual "updating iPod" message then freezes. Just iTunes freezes not anything else i'm doing.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I had this same problem when trying to rebuild my iPhoto and iTunes libraries after a hard drive failure. I was able to track the problem down to a few images, that for whatever the reason, would not sync over to the iPod. They looked fine in iPhoto and didn't appear to be corrupted, so I have no idea what was wrong with them. I discovered that this was the case because I was able to sync photos by manually selecting specific photo albums, but I was unable to sync my entire photo library.
Here's the process I used to figure out what images were at fault. For each film roll in my iPhoto library, I did the following:
    1. Created a temporary photo album with all of the images from that roll.
    2. Told iTunes to only sync specific photo albums, not the entire library.
    3. Selected the new temp film roll in iTunes for syncing.
    4. If the sync worked, I knew that film roll was not to blame.
    5. If I got the error, I knew that I had identified the correct roll. Then I did a one-by-one removal of images from the roll until the sync worked.
While this was a very tedious process, it did finally allow me to get my entire photo library to sync over. And, I was able to re-import the faulty images and get those to sync as well. But deleting them first and getting a fresh copy was definitely what was needed here.

  • Smart Playlists Won't Update

Since I updated to iTunes 6.0.3 I can no longer change the Date Added section of my Smart Playlists. So I tried creating a new Smart Playlist and it won't let me save a Date Range - no matter what I enter, it beeps when I close it and then when I check again the Date Added has reverted to Date Added is <today's date>.
Are other people having this problem? And if so, how do I get around it? Is it a bug in 6.0.3? Or is it just me?
(I know this sounds like a minor problem but I organize a lot of my music this way...)
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    No problem on my system.
I suppose the format has to be the same as you have set in System Preferences>International>Formats.
    Can you check that?
    Hope this helps.

  • Won't mount. Wiped Clean. What next?

My iPod froze up. Then I had to recharge it (i guess the battery was depleted). But all my music is gone and it asks me what language do I want? I connect it to my G5 with the latest iTunes and iPod updater and it won't mount on the desktop nor will it appear it iTunes. The iPod shows the "Do not disconnect" message on the iPod, but nothing mounts.
I have reinstalled iTunes. I have reset the iPod. I tried loading the iPod updater but I don't get a status bar when it is running and then I have to force quit it after about 10 minutes of it doing nothing.
I need some help! 4G w/ click wheel.

    This solution worked for me!!

  • Updater won't update Ipod

I downloaded the new ipod updater and now when I go to update the ipod it won't allow me to click either update or restore. How can I update the ipod?

I been havung the same problem for the past five
days. I tried everything even a different USB port.
I'm beginning to think this is a trick fom Apple to
make customer purchase a new more expensive ipod. But
    hey could just something else
Doubtful... I am having the exact same problem, and mine is a brand-new ipod. I've only had it a few days. The issue is definetly related to the Ipod updater software. I was trying to get it to work with the Nike Sport Kit. I guess I am glad I still have my receipts: I can still return both.

  • Itunes wont reinstall all playlists required to update ipod

I reinstalled Itunes and it still wont get the required playlists to update my ipod and it also says the i need to reinstall Itunes due to not having a cd/dvd creator for it.

Try this for the CD/DVD prob
Updating The Drivers On Your Windows PC
For the playlist problem, one of the playlists you are using to update your iPod with has gone missing - you need to click through the lists and find which one, and create it again.

  • Updated ipod, wiped out songs, and now I can't get them back on to to it

I updated my daughters ipod nano, not knowing that it would wipe out all her songs. Now we are trying to get them back on from her library and it only copies 1 song from her 79 and it does not give us the option to send them to it.
    Please Help !!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
When the iPod is connected to the computer and in iTunes go to edit-->preferences. Click the iPod tab. Make sure it is set to automatically update all songs and playlists. Click OK.
If that doesn't work, try restoring the iPod...
    Restore the iPod
Now try putting the songs on.
Also, are the songs that are not transferring purchased (from the iTunes Music Store)?

  • HT4352 iTunes match playlists won't update on apple tv

Trying to figure out how I can disable songs on my itunes match (like christmas music) so it won't play on my apple tv (2).  I can disable the songs on my imac but it doesn't appear to have any influence on my apple tv.  I really like listening to the Genius mixes but I just don't want to listen to xmas musiic in July .  I've also noticed that my playlists don't seem to update.  For example, I'll listen to songs not heard in 2 years and the songs don't appear to update (I still see the same songs the next day).

Ok nw the rented film is on the iPad which won't play and when I looked at the Mac I was greeted with an error message saying that the film could nt be transferred because the file had already been transferred somewhere else!  Thing is I can see it on theioad and the Mac still!
Obviously the film Kees checking where it as you can't watch it in two places at the same time. I can understand that but I knw it's not anywhere else.
The only thing I can think of is if when time machine backs it up it thinks it's being watched!
    Any ideas anyone?

  • Smart playlists won't update, remains empty even after weeks

Before I updated to the new iTunes, my smart playlists worked fine. My current version (11.0.3.) does not seem to add songs to or update any of the playlists I have created since downloading the new version. I have turned my itunes on and off several times and the version is up to date. I read this thread, posted by someone who had the same problem but his/her playlist automatically updated itself a few hours after it was created. Some of my smart playlists have remained empty for weeks. How do I solve this issue? It is driving me crazy.

One of them is a 1950s playlist in which the following rules apply:
    - Album title contains the word 1950
    - Year is in the range 1950 to 1959
The secon playlist is a compilation of remixes:
    - Artist name contains the word remix
    - Song title (name) contains the word remix
    - Album title contains the word remix
Are these Match Any or Match All?
