Playsists selected for syncing no longer exist? ipod won't update

My new ipod won't update because it says that playlists I've selected for syncing no longer exist. For this reason I can't get any of my music onto my ipod and I don't understand what I am supposed to do to fix this

Hi guys, I've been having the same problem. Specifically, when I try to transfer songs from iTunes to my iPod I get the following error message: "Songs in the iPod "My iPod" cannot be updated because all the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist". I did some searching around at this site, and found that one possible problem is that my library is larger than my iPod's capacity, so I have to eliminate some songs. I did this, but I still get the same error message.

  • Songs cannot be synced: playlists selected for syncing no longer exist

"Songs on the ipod cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist"
I finally filled all of the memory in my nano for the first time, and I got a popup to put all of my playlists in one file so it wouldn't take up as much space. When I saw it, I deleted it, I wasn't aware of what was going on. I tried to fix it by changing the settings to manually sync music but that didn't work. Then I restored my ipod and now it doesn't have any songs on it. So I tried to uninstall everything, itunes and ipod to restore the settings back to normal but that didn't work either. Everytime I connect my nano, all it says it can't sync because the playlists don't exist anymore. I don't know what to do anymore. Can someone help me?

But then it says it can't read or write to my nano.
is that the message discussed in the following document?

  • Playlists for syncing no longer exist?!

so yesterday i had an urge to finally download the newest version of itunes. everything went smoothly until it was complete. i noticed that all my songs on my ipod got deleted. when i tried to sync all my songs again, a message popped up:
"Songs on the iPod "Win's iPod" cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist"
i went on control panel and deleted the program and then downloaded it again (even an older version) but it still brought me back to my old itunes with a song i added before to see if it syncing would work. i thought if i downloaded it again, i would have a new itunes with the playlists needed from the message.
do you happen to know what playlists the message is talking about?
    thanks!

what version of itunes are you currently running? (checking on this because the instructions for getting past this one differ, depending on whether you've got a version 7.0.x or an earlier version.)

  • Ipod cannot be updated because all of playlists for syncing no longer exist

I think i delted the playlist for my ipod and now i get this message and my ipod wont update and i have no clue what to do

This problem arises when you use 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' to sync your iPod and then delete the playlist it has been updating from. Most people use this setting when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library. If you haven't deliberately chosen this method, adding a smaller iPod to a larger library for the first time causes iTunes by default to make a new playlist called something along the lines of "Owner's iPod Selection". If you for any reason delete it, you will not be able to sync your iPod.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -iPod to make it the first playlist in the source list. You can make this a normal playlist and drag whatever you want to it or you can make it a random Smart playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano). Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply:

  • Urgent! My iPod won't update!

My iPod says this when I connect it to iTunes, "Song on this iPod cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist." and it also says "Unknown error (-50)" (or something like that). Can anyone help me out here? It would be greatly appreciated.

Let's start you out with a few things with this issue:
Have you tried the Five R's? Reset, Retry, Restart, REinstall, Restore. Read about them here -> The Five R's
Have you tried assigning your iPod a different drive letter? Follow these instructions below:
Log off of any other users on your computer (and disconnect any iPods that are currently connected to your computer, as well)
Then, put your iPod into Disk Mode, then follow these steps:
1 - Don’t plug in your iPod yet.
2 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
3 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
4 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, reset your iPod, and connect it.
5 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).

  • Aperture Albums Selected for Sync Change

After adding an album or project in Aperture, the albums selected for sync in iTunes change.
    Cross-post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1147308

I've been able to repeat this bug reliably: whenever I add an album that ends up listed before albums selected for sync in iTunes, the synced albums shift down (or the checkmark shifts up) one step in the album list in iTunes, rendering iTunes sync of Aperture albums pretty much useless.

  • I deleted my "iPod Slection" playlist and now my iPod won't update.

I don't know exactly how it happened but the songs on my original "iPod Selection" playlist got messed up and so iTunes automatically created another "iPod Selection Playlist" and I didn't want the songs it put in that playlist on my iPod so I deleted it. But now my iPod won't update because it says "your iPod cannot be updated because all the playlists selected for updating no longer exist." If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Seems like you've got auto sync with your iPod and it is looking for a specifically named playlist.
    Check your preferences.
Create a new playlist and sync that.

Specific songs from the iTunes Music Store don't play
Try deauthorizing and reauthorizing your computer. Repeat the deauthorization and reauthorization process for any other iTunes Music Store accounts for which your computer is authorized.
1.Double-click one of your affected iTunes Music Store songs.
2.Enter your account name and password in the resulting dialog.
    3.Click OK.
After you've deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring your iPod.
After you've restored your iPod, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try recreating your iTunes library.
After you've recreated your iTunes library, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu.

  • IPod Won't Update - Is iTunes 7 to blame?

I started having problems with my iPod's playback - skipping songs in a playlist and skipping to the next track before the end of the song - I then tried to add songs (and update calenders etc.) using iTunes 7 (having only just downloaded it) and then everything stopped working.
The iPod registered on the computer and in iTunes - the contents of the iPod appeared in ITunes too, but it refused to accept new songs - when I tried to add songs, iTunes said it was updating, but it froze on the second song and iTunes then crashed.
I have restored the iPod and reinstalled iTunes 7, but neither of them work - the iPod won't update and iTunes constantly crashes (particularly when playing and pausing songs). I tried downgrading to iTunes 6.0.5 - which works fine - but the iPod still would not update.
Are these problems due to iTunes 7 being rubbish or do I have a broken iPod?? Is there anything I can try??
I have also just realised my mistake in putting this question in the Fifth Generation iPod forum, as I don't have one. Apologies for that - I have an iPod with click wheel but I don't seem to be able to move the question!

  • Since updating my iPhone 4S, existing apps won't update and cannot update new apps even after deleting apps to make room. What can I do?

Whenever I try to download a new app, I receive an error message that the app can't be downloaded at this time, try again later. Also, existing apps won't update. I have tried deleting apps to make more room, but so far nothing has helped.

Does it also ask you to contact itunes support?

  • IPod cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing...

    no longer exist.
My ipod could not hold all of the songs that I had on itunes...and after I deleted a playlist, this keeps popping up and i do not know how to fix it.
      Windows 2000

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod and then the playlist it has been updating from is deleted. Most people use this setting when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library. If your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod, iTunes by default makes a new playlist called something along the lines of "Owner's iPod". If you for any reason delete it, you will not be able to sync your iPod.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -iPod to make it the first playlist in Sources. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection
