Playtech took a look at the MSI GS30 Shadow with Gaming Dock

Playtech, the MSI reseller in New Zealand took a look at the MSI GS30 Shadow with Gaming Dock.
The overall impression was positive
So.....another MSI notebook to consider .....
my gosh....how difficult to make a purchase decision....
Quotes
"The GS30 was described as thin and light impressing them with its look and overall build quality. The CPU, 1080p antiglare display, RAM and storage were all high points in the tiny package.
Playtech TV also loved the touchpad and keyboard on the GS30 Shadow making for easy use. The Gaming Dock was easy to use and using both the MSI GTX960 and MSI GTX980 cards to do benchmarks they were thoroughly impressed with the scores across the board.
MSI Dragon Centre, SoundBlaster Cinema and the System Control software were all bonuses making for easy use, overall they felt the laptop was well built with a great screen, keyboard and touchpad. While the entire package was a cool, interesting idea which can be appealing for users who want a super portable notebook during the day and a high performance gaming desktop at home."

Docking is a brilliant idea, but my boyfriend is gamer and an engineer, he is trying to look for independent laptop for its high performance. Does anyone know where can I find independent one from docking?

MSI’s GS30, with its Gaming Dock, is the first to actually deliver on the promise of using a normal desktop graphics card bolstering a thin ‘n’ light, non-gaming notebook.—Dave James
    Highlights:
1.You can switch between thin ‘n’ light laptop to gaming desktop in a trice
2.The dock’s connection to the notebook is a full x16 lane PCIe 3.0 socket.
3.It’s a beefy quad-core, octo-thread processor of Intel Haswell ilk running between 2.8GHz and 3.5GHz
4.There’s also a huge 16GB of DDR3 memory inside that little package too
5.With the CPU and Iris Pro graphics it’s a powerful little thing in its own right.

GS30 Shadow and Gaming Dock internals
The GS30 Shadow is a light, slim machine with a high-powered, high-voltage Intel Core i7 CPU and the usual stuff you find in an MSI Gaming notebook. One thing it does lack though, is a dedicated graphics card, instead it comes with a PCI-E 3.0 x16 connector and a sizeable dock, the Gaming Dock, in which you’ll be able to fit a full desktop graphics card and a few other goodies.
To tell you more about the GS30 Shadow and the Gaming Dock, we’ve created a little video to walk you through the combo and what you can expect hardware-wise.

GS30 Shadow - The Gaming Dock
The GS30 Shadow was just launched at CES, and already there are questions going around, mainly related to the Gaming Dock. For those of you still unfamiliar with the GS30 Shadow, it's a slim 13.3” notebook with a high-end Core i7 CPU with Iris Pro graphics, Super RAID with a bunch of SSDs – with no real gaming capabilities of its own.
The Gaming Dock though, changes all this. You simply dock the notebook into it and through magic (a PCI-E 3.0 x16 connector), you can hook up any desktop graphics to your GS30. The dock holds said PCI-E connector, a bunch of USB ports, a Killer LAN port, audio jacks, a 3.5” HDD as well as speakers in the front panel. The idea is that you have everything plugged in at home (including external monitor(s), keyboard and mouse) and simply pop in the GS30 when you get back home from work or school.
Obviously there are technical limitations as well, that we want to highlight. You can't use the built-in monitor on the GS30, because all PCI-E signals are being sent to the gaming dock when plugged in. This also extends to the keyboard, touchpad and speakers, meaning you must have these separately on your desk. It's sort of the point of the Gaming Dock, using the keyboard on top of the dock would most likely be uncomfortable, but we still want to make it clear.
All in all, we're excited to have launched the GS30 Shadow with it's full-bandwidth Gaming Dock, as it fuses full-powered desktop graphics where you want it (at home) with a properly mobile notebook for the road.

  • I have a 7th generation nano, and am interested in the Nike   Ipod sport kit.  However, it looks like the kit only works with older nanos with the 30 pin connector.  What kit or what accessory do I need to utilize the Nike   ipod sport kit fuctionality?

I have a 7th generation nano, and am interested in the Nike + Ipod sport kit.  However, it looks like the kit has a 30 pin connector on the receiver and the 7th gen nano is a lightning connector.  Not sure if the kit will work.  What kit or what accessories do I need to utilize the Nike + ipod sport kit fuctionality in the 7th gen nano?  Do I just need a separate sensor and/or a heart rate monitor? Or is there a kit available for 7th gen nanos?

    Hey SeanW89,
Thanks for the question. The iPod nano 7th generation has bluetooth functionality that can connect to the Nike+ sensor. You do not need to purchase the USB kit, but rather just the sensor itself:
Nike + iPod Sensor - Apple Store (U.S.)

iPod nano (7th generation): Frequently used features
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5470
    Connect to Bluetooth accessories
You can connect your iPod nano to compatible Bluetooth headsets and other accessories, including some hands-free systems in newer cars. You can also connect to a Nike+ sensor or a Bluetooth heart-rate monitor. iPod nano supports A2DP for audio streaming and AVRCP for controlling playback on Bluetooth devices.
Note: FM radio will not play through a Bluetooth accessory.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

I am trying to install Adobe Reader X over a large number of computers, and need an .MSI installer package in order to deploy it silently. Does anyone have this package for me?

You can extract MSI from EXE file using following command line
    AdbeRdr1014_en_US.exe -sfx_ne -sfx_o"<somepath>\Extract
The extracted folder contains 10.1.4 patch file in MSP format i.e. AdbeRdrUpd1014.msp
Then after you can use following line for complete installation

  • Looking for the MSI FTP server...

    I need NX6600GT-VTD128 AGP bios...

    There is no ftp server.
You will have to ask another user with the exact same card to make a BIOS image if you really need it.
Otherwise, e-mail MSI support. You must give all details about the card and number from sticker on the BIOS chip...should be a green sticker.

  • Anybody look at the MSI 6566E for overclocking?

This isn't one of the popular boards, it used the i845E chipset and has USB2.0 (part of the chipset) and LAN (also part of the chipset).
I installed one of them and while trolling in the bios I found it allows the following settings (using Northwood 2.0GHz CPU)
    CPU Vcore 1.50v - 1.80v
    AGP volt 1.50v - 1.80v
    Vio 3.40v - 3.70v
    FSB 100MHz - 200MHz
I don't have the board here any more as it went to it's real owner, but it does seem to be a good choice for you overclockers.
Anybody try it? (I am a cowerd when it comes to overclocking and a 2.0GHz CPU isn't the best candidant anyway)

I have been experimenting with overclocking my MSI 845E Max (6556E) motherboard. I've tried overclocking a P4 Northwood 1.6A and 1.8A CPU to FSB 133. On a different motherboard my 1.6A goes to FSB 133 no problem. On this board it is not stable even with Vcore adjustments.
I used WCPUID and Fuzzy Logic 4 to verify settings, etc... I noticed on WCPUID that the memory clock is about 177 MHz when the FSB is clocked to 133, corresponding to a ratio of FSB/MEM = 3/4. Is there a way to set that ratio to 1:1? Has anyone else seen this?
I've tried manually setting memory clock in the BIOS to 266 MHz but WCPUID still says its 177 MHz when overclocked to FSB133/533. Note, overclocking to 125/500 MHz FSB  corresponds to 166 MHz memory clock according to WCPUID. Is there any way around this?
At FSB 133, shouldn't the memory be clocked automatically to 133 MHz or is WCPUID wrong?
    Bios 5.3 (July)
    CPUs tested P4 1.6A, 1.8A
MSI 6556E with one PCI slot filled with Promise ATA100 card
    GeForce4 on AGP
    Dimms tested: generic 256MB single-sided DDR333 CL2, Crucial 256MB double-sided DDR333 (PC2700) CL 2.5, Crucial 256MB double-sided DDR266 CL 2.5. Note, only one slot was filled at any given time.

  • OC Genie on the MSI Z87 GD-65 Gaming Motherboard Questions?

    Hey Everyone,
My name is Mark Findlay. I am new here but came to ask a few questions about my motherboard I have had since about July of 2014.
I have overclocked with motherboards many times before but was curious about the OC Genie option when I had installed the board and
was happy to find that it overclocked my CPU to 4.0Ghz with out a single BSOD ever and has been great with temps. Just around 22c-28c
    with an H110 from Corsair.
Anyways, I would like to know if when using OC Genie, is 4.0Ghz all I can get from the Auto OC feature? I mean is it going through and finding what my CPU is capable of and setting it to the best speed and settings so it doesn't have stability issues? I would like to OC it more and I know I should just take the time and go through with a standard overclock but I would like to know if you can edit or change things that OC Genie at all?
Thank you and I hope someone out there can tell me for sure either way how to do it or that it is not possible!
MSI is the best by the way~!
    -PTIPPY  aka Mark Findlay

    Hello,
As far as I'm aware of, OC Genie is limited to those 4.0GHz (or 4.4GHz for i7 4790k), yet depending on the CPU you have( I guess you have 4670k?). So if you want anything further, you need to do it yourself.
On motherboard like Z97 MPower Max there is a little switch that increases OC Genie function's clocks even more, but not sure about GD65 (I doubt it has something like this)

  • Looking for the Toshiba bluetooth SDK (with the HDP profile)

    Hi,
I have requested the bluetooth SDK 2 months ago, and I have not answer.
I would like to develop an application (for academic purposes) to connect with a A&D blood pressure monitor using the Thosiba bluetooth stack and the HDP profile. Has someone developed any similar application? Is there any person with the Bluetooth SDK that I can contact ???
    Thank you,

    Hi sperez15,
I agree with MasterG. You have to contact Toshiba directly to obtain the Toshiba Bluetooth stack SDK. Just write an email and follow the link posted by the previous user then you will get it. :)
Also check some similar threads here about Bluetooth maybe they are useful for you.

  • Looking for info on the msi 970 gaming .

Looking at the msi gaming 970 as a GPU. I know about the ram issue. Looking for info about the card in general (persons perspective ). Like how does it overclock, cooling, bios updates, warranty and so on.
    My specs
    4790k-4.0
    gigabyte z97 black edition MB
    8gb gskill
    WD valaciraptor HD
    Thanks.

Cooling: It has very good cooler (better than 780Ti which I own) so surely low temps (<70C with fans 35%~ )
OC: It's a gamble. One can overclock better than the other
Warranty: As far as I know, 1 year with seller and further 1 year directly with MSI
BIOS updates: it's new card so rarely any updates right now, but there are some if something is being fixed/improved.
Should work fine in your system, no bottleneck with i7 4790
Just depends if you look at reference design or Gaming series.

Start by looking around the examples that ship with LabVIEW (if you are
    using LabVIEW).
Also look around zone.ni.com for general data acquisition information &
    examples. A good site.
