  • How do I change and .exe file so it will work on my mac?

I am trying to download an Active X plug-in and install it on my Mac so I can log onto a website that supports this Active X plug-in only. How do I change an .exe file so it will work to where I can install it on my Mac?

You can't install Windows software natively on your Mac but you can run Microsoft Virtual PC <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/virtualpc/virtualpc.aspx?pid=virtualpc> if your Mini is a PowerPC Mac or you can use something like Parallels <http://www.parallels.com> or Apple's Boot Camp <http://www.apple.com/bootcamp> if your Mini is an Intel Mac.
Virtual PC comes with Windows but Parallels and Boot Camp will require you to install your own licensed version of Windows purchased separately.
Then you'll be able to run Windows on your Mac, which means you can use ActiveX in your IE browser.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • I am wondering whether my desktop iMac 7,1 will work in Ireland?

I am wondering whether a desktop iMac 7,1 will work in Ireland because of the difference in current?  Can anyone comment about this.  I
have read yes and no in various forums.  A million thanks.

    Dear Klaus1
Is that all I will need?  Is my computer able to accept both 110 and 220 or do I need some kind of a transformer as well.  I read about switching the switch from 110 to 220 on the back of the computer, but there did not appear to be such a switch.  I have used my laptop and ipad in Ireland with just an adapter, but this computer is probably 7 years old.
    Thanks for answering.

  • HT3669 Hi I have a Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer. This works with my Windows-based Toshiba laptop but not with my i-Mac. Can someone please advise me how I get the printer to work with my i-Mac? I have installed it but documents don't print. Thanks

Hi I have a Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer. This works with my Windows-based Toshiba laptop but not with my i-Mac. I have the latest (Mountain Lion 10.8.2) OS-X software.
I have installed the printer using 'System Preferences' on my i-Mac and it appears on the list of available printers but documents that I create just don't print.
Can someone please advise me how I get the Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer to work with my i-Mac?
    Thanks, John Lee

Looking at the Konica web site for the PagePro 1300W, I saw the following note.
Please note: This printer is designed to be used in computer operating systems running MS Windows only. Operating systems such as UNIX, Macintosh, or Linux are not supported nor do we have workaround drivers available. Older MS Windows versions, such as Windows 3.1/95/98[pre-SE] and NT 3.51/4.0, are not supported.
So KM are not going to help you. But the LinuxFoundation does provide a workaround that should allow you to print. Have a look at this web page. You will need to install all three packages as per the instructions from that page.

  • Just had the most awful experience with cleanmymac2.  I just had research files "cleaned"?no help from customer support - please advise software to restore files

I just had 3 years of research "cleaned" by cleanmymac2 - due to poor instructions/information.  Customer support just told me what software I should buy to restore the files they destroyed. Would appreciate any suggestions on how I might possibly retrieve my files?  Thanks

If you have a backup that you created prior to using CleanMyMac, now is the time to use it. For Time Machine, boot OS X Recovery, and at the Mac OS X Utilities screen, choose Restore from Time Machine Backup. Choose a date preceding the installation of CleanMyMac.
If you do not have a backup, create one now, verify that it is a viable backup of your essential software and files, then erase your Mac completely, reinstall OS X and your essential software. When you reinstall your essential software, you must do so from their original sources, not from a backup that may have been corrupted.
Nothing less than erasing your Mac and rebuilding it from the ground up will undo the effects of having used CleanMyMac, and its developer's instructions for uninstalling it are not completely effective.
I know no other way to recover from having used CMM other than the recommendations above.

    what am i missing?
    thanks in advance

    Try runnning ldd -v <program>
This will list all the libraries that you will need to have in your library path, I am not a programmer, I am assuming that libNodeManager.so might be calling another library(ies) which you cannot find.
    I hope this helps.

  • Certain web sites try to open a tab for billing or other info. fire fix 3 worked fine , 4 & 5 bring up a box asking how to handle a aspx file and nothing will work. am running XP service pack 3. how do I reload 3 again?

with firefox 3 everything works fine. with 4 and 5 when I try to complete billing info I get a question about how to handle aspx files. nothing works. all I get is a new tab with a blank screen, not data no nothing. When I loaded firefox 4 and had the problem I reinstalled 3 to solve it. I hoped when 5 came along it would include a fix, no such luck. I read many questions about AOL logon that is the same as my problem and have tried all the suggestions with no luck.

What are you expecting when the aspx window comes up, a PDF or a regular web page?
Here's the process to roll back:
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
    Close Firefox 5.
You could install Firefox 3.6 over it (it usually worked with Firefox 4) or you could uninstall Firefox first. If you uninstall, do not remove your personal data and settings, just the program.
Unless you have installed an incompatible add-on, Firefox 3.6 should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.
Note: I haven't actually tried this myself!

  • Does Time Capsule mean that backup up to NAS will work?

Forgive me if I have it wrong, but I seem to remember hearing that Time Machine beta supporting backing up to network drives but that functionality was pulled due to various problems in the production release of Time Machine. With the new Time Capsule combination of an Airport Extreme base station with a 500GB/1TB drive does that mean that there will be an update to allow Time Machine to backup to any networked drive or will it have to be the Time Capsule network drive? Or, does anyone know yet?
Thanks for any insight or information you might have.

To follow up on my earlier post/comment/question -
a long long time ago, and far far away, likely before most of the readers of this were even born, there was a place/company/entity/idea called IBM.
During my days in graduate school I was a programmer/designer/analyst for several local firms in the town where I went to school. One of my clients had a System 3 - running RPG with a network of 3270's.
Now most of you will have no idea of what a 3270 is but suffice it to say that those of us who had to deal with these monsters, before CICS and before BMS, using Modified Data Tags (MDT) and Set Buffer Addresses (SBA) were the real Right Stuff. And that's when a "Green Card" meant something - and even more if you were privileged enough to have a "Yellow Card - SOC7 and SRL meant the end of the world. Today any coding claim for GUI, HTML, JAVA or whatever pales in its insignificance.
    Well, on with my story.
So one day we ordered an "upgrade" to our Printer. Our printer was a 300 lpm (that's Lines Per Minute) that, due to increased business volume, we wanted to "upgrade" to 600 lpm. Back in those days you either leased or purchased (with a service contract) all of your "stuff" from computers to typewriters with Selectric Elements fom IBM.
So on the appointed/anointed day the IBM person (they were called either SE's for System Engineers or TSR for Technical Support Representative) arrived and I greeted him at the door.
Figuring that an upgrade to a behemoth line printer would be an extensive task, I noticed that he was carrying only a miniscule case. I had expected him to install a new motor, a new power supply, and to replace the print chain (a long connected circular wraparound band that contained several rows of all printable characters) which I was certain that although it could stand up to a force of 300 lpm that it would have to be retired and replaced in order to withstand the pounding of 600 lpm.
The IBM rep had a bag smaller than Marcus Welby's.
He approached the printer, pushed the button to raise the cover, didn't even turn the printer off, gently removed one gear, and pushed the button that closed the cover.
Our "upgrade" was there all of the time -we just needed to have someone "deinstall our previously installed downgrade"
My point - an "upgrade" doesn't necessarily mean "adding" - especially if the functionality was already there.
So ---- what did Apple "turn on" to get the Time Thing to work???
Or what did they turn off?
FYI - I a running a Mac Book, a Mac Book Pro, a PB G4 with an AEBS connected to a USB disk, along with a Buffalo Link Station Live and Time Machine works fine, has been since early November, backing up to the USB disk connected to the AEBS and to the Link Station.
    Comments and Q welcome.
    Thank you.

  • Backup File Doesn't Work

    Someone please help me!
Before I restore my itouch to factory setting, I did a backup. I also saved that backup file in another folder just in case it is lost. But after restoring my itouch, when I right clicked my ipod in itunes, there is no "restore from backup" I can choose.
I have restored my itouch from other backup files before and they worked except this time. I don't understand. I look into this backup file compared to other previous old backup, I did noticed that this backup file is missing the "Info, Manifest.mbdb, Manifest.mbdx, Manifest, and Status" files. I don't know if this is the cause.
Can anyone please help me with this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Thanks for confirming that the Leopard Finder won't copy TM backups - I suspected as much, as I get an error when trying to copy the ".backupdb" file from my USB drive to a network share.
Since you're on Snow Leopard, that's not the problem. What does the error message say?
If the backups are damaged, you cannot copy them successfully. Try repairing them, per #A5 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
Note that while you might be able to copy the Backups.backupdb folder to the NAS, Time Machine will not recognize it as being a TM backup. For backups done over a network, the Backups.backupdb folder is stored in a +sparse bundle disk image,+ rather than at the root of the volume.
Depending on how OSX deals with your NAS, however, you might not be able to copy to it, or you might have to start a backup to the separate share, and as soon as the sparse bundle is created, cancel it. Then mount the sparse bundle, delete the Backups.backupdb folder in it, and copy the Backups.backupdb folder from the USB drive.
Or, much easier, just keep the USB drive "on the shelf." You can always vie and restore from it via the +*Browse Other Time Machine Disks+* option, per #E2 in Troubleshooting. (It will be much faster, too.)

  • Where does my backup files reside in windows

I backed up my ipad (using iTunes) to my laptop (running Windows 7).  Where can I find the backup files?  Also, the ipad that I backed is no longer mine.  My wife has an iPad Air 2.  We want to get the content (especially the pics and videos) of the backup onto her iPad. Can we do this, even if the backup is from Tom's iPad, and my wifes ipad is Mary's iPad?

You do not have the ability to pick and choose certain aspects of the backup file to restore to another device. A restore is either all or none. You can purchase 3rd party software to open a backup file and try to remove some parts of it. The backup files is a special SQLite file that needs special software to read. It is really intended just to use to restore an iOS device if necessary.  However, this support document will tell you where your backup file is located on the computer. Many of these are hidden files, so make sure you have the ability to view hidden files switched on. If you can't back up or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using iTunes - Apple Support

  • Determining the Size of a Time Machine Backup File

When I highlight a Time Machine backup file and then click on Get Info under File to determine the size of the backup file, the disk drive works its heart out, but the Get Info window never arrives at a determination of the file size being seemingly stuck in the "calculating size" state.
Anybody have an idea of what's going on?

Regarding your statement: "If you Enter Time Machine (the "Star Wars" interface), from a Finder window with a "size" column, then browse your backups, you should be able to see the sizes easily." - what do you mean by the "Star Wars" interface?
Ah, you are new to Time Machine. Sorry, that's how you view and restore from your backups. Hold your mouse down on the TM icon in your Menubar and select +*Enter Time Machine,+* or click the TM icon in your Dock, or the +*Time Machine+* app in your Applications folder.
If I look at the pull-down menu under Finder, I do not see Enter Time Machine. Am I looking in the wrong place? Obviously, since I couldn't get by the first step, I never got to a "size" column, and to be honest, I don't know that I have ever seen a Finder window with a "size" column.
You can add one, by selecting View > as List, then View > Show View Options in a Finder window's menubar, and select or de-select whatever columns you want.
I'm a little embarrassed by my lack of knowledge, but if I don't acknowledge my shortcomings, I'll never get the question answered. Thanks for taking your time to try to help me.
Don't be. We all started at zero at one time or another.
I'm not sure just what you were looking for in your first post. The size of all your TM backups is just the amount used on your external disk, unless you have other data in the same partition (which isn't a good idea). Because of the way TM works, you can't really determine the size of an individual backup, and it really wouldn't mean much.
Perhaps if you clarified just what you want to know, we can help answer it.
