Please Apple, make a iPad compatible DVD slim drive.

I have a giant collection of DVDs. And it would be really nice to have a DVD drive that ran from a USB and was controlled by a application. Just a simple design like the one you have for the Mac mini. That way when I go on a trip and I want to watch a particular movie, I won't have to be at home to watch it. I can just attach my DVD drive and voila! Instant DVD compatibility. If anyone wants this like this discussion, and spread the word so that apple or someone will listen.

However, considering that Apple has moved away from the DVD drive in their MacBook Air models, and considering that they make money off sales/rentals of movies and TV shows in iTunes, I wouldn't count on it anytime soon. :-)
You can store your DVD's on a 500 GB Satellite GoFlex and watch them on your iPad. Much easier to carry than a pile of DVD's and a external drive.

The iphone is too small for me to use for the internet (maybe it's my age)-- especially for Facebook--where I am a Page Administrator, but the mini ipad would be just right for both phone and internet. Drive compatibility is always a problem by upgrade. The fact is that every ODD will not work with every notebook model. I presume it is because of different pin assignment.
Unfortunately I was not able to find any list of compatible ODDs for your notebook model. Sat Pro 4320 is pretty old unit and it will be probably not so easy to find compatible DVD-RAM drive. Try to contact authorized Toshiba service in your country. They are upgrade specialized and they should know which ODDs are compatible for this Satellite Pro notebook.

Compatible DVD-RW Drives - Power Mac G4 Quicksilver 733MHz

I am in the process of upgrading a Power Mac G4 Quicksilver 733 MHz. Does anyone have a list of compatible DVD-RW drives? I want to replace the existing CD-RW drive so I can install Tiger from the DVD.
Also want to install a 3.5" Floppy Disk Drive, anyone know which models are compatible?

For the least problematic and most compatible brand DVD±RW drive for use in Macs, I'd recommend a Pioneer drive, like this one. You can use other brands (like NEC, Samsung, or LG), but bootability can be iffy from one brand to another. Some of the major names (like Sony) sell rebranded drives, so you never know what product you'll get from one model to another, even with the same "name" on it. You don't need to restrict your search to Mac dealers, because your G4 uses the same DVD±RW drive as PCs. A Mac dealer may include (third-party) Mac burning software, which the drives marketed for PCs won't include. As for a floppy drive, you'll have to settle for an external USB version. Unlike their PC counterparts, older Apple FDDs had a single ribbon cable that conveyed data and power. There isn't any means to connect one of these to the standard interfaces found in the B&W G3s and newer Macs. With the cost of USB flash drives now less than $10/GB, why do you want to install a FDD in your G4? Is it intended for temporary use, until you've copied the contents of older disks to another medium?

Why won't Apple make 3G iPads into mobile use for calls and text?

All your iPhone, iPad mini and all other idevices are great, but if you want to win the competition with Apple vs Samsung, you better include what all mobile devices do not have, which is to simply NOT ABLE TO TURN OFF WHEN THE PHONE IS STOLEN. You can put passwords, install Find My IPhone, but wont do **** when the thief can just simply turn off the device from lock screen. With the new iOS 7 and new features of Find My iPhone, I suggest that you also include to ask for the apple ID and password when wanting to turn off the idevice and when the password is correct, the current location will be emailed to their account so they know when and where they have turned off their phone, if it was however a kidnapping or stolen, it will help police locate the device or person more faster, would you not agree this is a great feature to have. Anyone who buys an iPhone now already includes data plan for Internet anyways.
Hope this comes available for the releasing of the iOS 7 new update this coming summer.

Why can't Apple make all ipads brightness to be settable to the dimmest just like in ibooks ?

I don't understand why a brillant number one company in the world - apple cannot make all it's generation of ipads to be more dimmer than the current lowest brightness setting level , to be just like the lowest brightness settable in ibooks ? Do they know that some ipad users around the world like me can find it to be too bright for my eyes , in fact it's hurting and painful just to look at ipad for a mere few minutes even when it's at the dimmest . I hope the ios engineers will listen to users like me and make it happen .

The brightness on the iPad over all CAN be manually set. And I find it hard to believe the dimmest setting is too bright. At that setting the screen is barely visible. Perhaps you should give the user guide a read:

When will apple start announing ipad compatible external superdrives?

So, we will become able to watch dvds on an ipad and create dvds on an ipad then.

The preferred business model seems to be to stream, store and access content via the internet. thus accessing it via dvd doesn't quite fit into that. They wouldn't have spent so much money on iTunes if they had a plan for physical media.
As to making dvd's, video processing takes a LOT of processor power, more than an ipad can crank out. ANd why make physical copies when the internet and cloud storage can be used for data transfer?

Since updating to 10.9.3 I have not been able to use my wireless printer. For some reason osx cannot find it or see it. Please Apple make a fix for it ASAP!

Try resetting your printer and router (power off for 15 secs, then back on).

M30-704 : compatible DVD-ROM drives?

the multidrive on my m30-704 model has gone to disk-drive heaven and I need to get a new optical drive. the busted drive is a Matsu****a UJ-811 multidrive.
what drives are compatible with my machine? what are the issues I need to look out for? do I need to get a same-brand drive, or can I change brands?
also, I don't need the full DVD burning / DVD RAM package - would it be possible to "downgrade" the drive and go for a cheaper option, say with only DVD reading capabilities? [in the UK, so region 1 drives are out].
I'm very confused by all this, and would greatly appreciate any help at all.

If you want to buy a new drive you should check the compatibility because not any drive is supported because of pin assignment.
Unfortunately I dont found any other drives apart from Matsu****a UJ-811 but Im sure its possible to buy only a DVD ROM without a burning option.
In my opinion you should ask the service partner for the supported CD/DVD drive.
Furthermore you can change the DVD region four times without any problems. Please check this option in the drive properties.

Looking for compatible DVD/RW drive for Satellite A30

As the most people who have the A30-303 laptop model with Mat****a UJ-811 ODD the same with me I need to change this drive and I looking for compatible model with this one.
The only one I know is the connection type is atapi and we need the same dimension for the new drive to be compatible with the old one, and if someone knows something else about the compatibility of optical drives that would be very useful for me (and specific for this model)

I made a search in some computer shops in Athens, so first I found a NEC 7543A (55 euros) but I found some reading problems with the CDs so I change with LG T10N (65 euros) because until now I never had any problem with this firm, as about mat****a my opinion is after this failure device (UJ-811 I already changed during the warranty period ) it would be not good to take another mat****a.
So if someone with the same model looking for DVD/RW I thing the LG T10N is working fine in this model read write everything and very fast.

Its always hard to find any information about compatible drives because of the different master / slave and c-sel settings.
In my knowledge Toshiba user manuals dont provide such information. Ok, I dont know if all user manual dont provide this but I did not find such info in my user manual.
However. I have investigated a little bit a someone has suggested that Toshiba SD-R6372 dvd writer is compatible with Satellite Pro 6000/6100 units.

Need recommendation for external DVD burner drive!

I'm one of the officers for a film club at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Recently, I discovered that we had, in our offices, a fully-functional, if not somewhat dated, iMac G4. After getting the neccessary OS X upgrades (it's now running the latest version, 10.4.8), I need to upgrade the CD drive, which is currently just a CD burner drive. It can't even play DVDs, much less burn them, both things we need to have working if we want people in our organization to be able to use this computer.
Since I don't want to physically remove the drive and replace it with an internal DVD burner drive, I'd like a recommendation for a good external one. I noticed that there's only one option on the Apple Store, the LaCie d2 DVD+/-RW Drive, and that doesn't look like it's been getting very good reviews. Does anyone have any other options I could choose from?

I have no experience of this model but this one from OWC (a company who get very good press on these boards) promises iDVD 5 and 6 support. It's somewhat cheaper than the Lacie in the Apple store but doesn't have Lightscribe.

Cd-rom dvd combo drive question

Hi folks, I'm currently experiencing probl with my cd-rom dvd combo drive cheepo "rosewill". When I'm playing dvd movie the sound is clicking and it's really anoying.To make sure it is dvd combo drive , copied dvd (vob) file to comp, and then played; Sound was perfect.is this something wrong with my dvd drive or I just missed something ??
