Please can someone shed some light on what I should do, new to the mac

I am looking to purchase a mac, with final cut pro 2. I want all the feature of FCP2 to work smoothly on my mac, so the system requirements need to be up to scratch!
Does anyone have a super smooth running mac with FCP2 on it? If so, how much would it cost to put this mac together? Any help woudld be great!

MacPro 2.66 min 3.0 better 8 core not really nec yet. get 4GB RAM with the 4 core machines - 8 GB with the 8 core, to run motion you'll need the x1900 video card.
Fill the bays with 500GB drives
Get an Apple 23" Cinema Display or the HP 2407. Get two if you can.
Get a Kona LHe HD card to drive your external PAL monitor. It will also allow you to convert incoming HDV to ProRes422 on the fly.
A good set of near field audio speakers for mixing.
You'll need a tape deck for the appropriate formats you want to shoot as well as a mixing board to route audio.
A good chair. A very good chair. You'll spend a lot of time in it.
Cost -
Figure at least $4,000 US for the computer, ram and drives/ ~ $1500 for computer monitors/~$1600 for the Kona/ a few hundred to thousands for an external pal monitor/ several hundred for the near field speakers/ $5-600 or so for the mixer/ at least $1500 for a DV/HDV tape player / and on and on.
However, before you spend a penny, go intern with someone or a station that does post production. It may save your life.

i have lost my photos/videos when i imported from my ipad 2 to my new imac latest version OS X 10.8.4
and it's not reading the files. I have downloaded iMac library manager and can see them. when i go back into iphoto i'm getting the following message :
Do you want to switch the current iPhoto Library from “iPhoto Library.photolibrary” to “iPhoto Library.photolibrary” and relaunch iPhoto?

can someone shed some light please ?So it appears you have only one library on the hard drive. Apply the two fixes below in order as needed to that library:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory. -

Can anyone please shed some light on how I can run MS Office and Meta Trader 4 platform on mac air. I have been using Play on Mac and Wine for the past couple of weeks, but now suddenly it has stopped working, only crashing and giving me nightmares. Is it juts best to install the latest Windows or Parallel?
Regards JoeMeta Trader 4 is Windows only - Office is available for the Mac and Windows and are mostly compatible but given that you'll be doing online trading you may prefer the Windows version of Excel since there are financial spreadsheets with macros that only run on the Mac with some significant editing.
You can install Windows 7 or 8 in BootCamp or any version of Windows usting virtualization. VMWare and Parallels are commercial programs and VirtualBox is open source. VB may be all you need. Whatever solution you choose, you'll need a commercial version of Windows (or get an OEM disc from NewEgg). -

As an experiment, try shutting off the firewall on your Mac and see if your Wii can connect then. -
Can someone shed some light on my HDMI woes?
Hello all,
I'm running a brand new MacBook Pro Retina 15" with OS X 10.9.4.
I went ahead and bought an HDMI to VGA adapter from Amazon (cheap, Chinese model. No branding.) and when I connected it to the HDMI port on my MBP I got... nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Now, before you start shouting at me "you should get a Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort to VGA/DVI/HDMI/Whatever adapter," I already own that. I have a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter and I have a MDP to HDMI/DisplayPort/DVI (all-in-one) adapter. That's not the point. The point is I wanted to, without a bulky adapter, go directly from my MacBook along a sleek, thin cable (bought an active "RedMere" cable) straight to an older VGA flatscreen monitor. The cheap HDMI-VGA adapter I got from Amazon is about the size of a USB dongle and doesn't look unsightly in this type of configuration.
So, before I gave up, I did some tests. I grabbed my old laptop (HP running Ubuntu) and plugged it all in. It worked! Almost instantly. That made me wonder. I grabbed the MDP all-in-one adapter I was telling you about and plugged it into my MacBook, plugged in the HDMI cable and... it worked! But that recreates the same problem as before. Now I have a big, bulky adapter hanging off the side of my laptop.
What can I infer from this? I also read other forum posts about other HDMI-VGA adapters and I found someone mention that the Cable Matters active adapter, with USB power, works with a MacBook Pro. I think it's a power issue! So that leaves me wondering: Why did Apple decide not to send power over the HDMI port?
My friend and I tried to use his MacBook Pro with an HDMI-over-ethernet extender (we had a LONG run to a projector) and we experienced problems, but once again my old HP had none. Why is the HDMI so weak in the MacBook Pro compared to ANY OTHER LAPTOP ON THE MARKET?

I recently aquired an iPhone 4S, perfectly fine, around 2 months old. everything is working fine, and all apps and music are downloaded on to iTunes and WERE origionally on the iPhone. I started to then add more songs from iTunes, though the phone started refusing to download them and then the majority of my collection were then deleted. I did origionally think that this was simply because it could not find the location of all the music files, though upon searching i found that iTunes could indeed fine every single file, and that they all played perfectly well in iTunes. I did reset the phone and try simply re-installing the exact same storage pre-reset, though it simply made all of the songs like that. The iPhone (4S, 32GB, 4 month old) did have around 900 songs on it, all playing fine, though recently the number on iTunes is around 1240, though I don't want all the songs on.
It is not that I am incapable of understanding the software of iTunes or of the iPhone, and I have had previous Apple products and also had interaction with various models (iPhone 5/5C/5S) and Android, so it this is where it stumps me on what the actual problem is.
I have tried doing things like:
Reseting the phone
Making an individual playlist with all of the songs that I want on my phone
Downloading Albums/Artists/songs/playlists individually (as to rule out if it is a specific artist/song/so on
Downloading everything and then trying to get iTunes to download the actual song directly
When updating/syncing my options on the Music tap on iTunes when the iPhone is plugged in, it registers on iTunes that the every song that I have ticked to be included in the sync has been synced, though upon checking my iPhone on the music app, the majority of the music will either have failed to sync or not be there, or be registered but unplayable (the title of the song is slightly transparent/grey). Then upon inspection of the [Settings>General>About>Songs], the count does not equate to that which is stated on iTunes.
Any help will be appreciated as soon as possible, as my iPhone is used for music a significant amount of the time and the loss of around 700 songs off of my phone is quite significant.
Bearing in mind that I am only 16 years old and have no actual IT knowledge in-depth of what is actually occuring other ethan what the consumers can see through such things as the settings and the location of files and their formats, I would be appreciative if any explanation wouldn't end up being too confusing, nor it being patronising (for instance, my ignorance of how to download music to iTunes)

I had EXACTLY the same issue recently. What I had to do on my PC was go into the My computer section> click on my C drive> click on users> click on my username> go into music and then iTunes> Here you should see something that says iTunes Library. Make sure that iTunes is Closed and then take the iTune library and drag it onto Your desktop. This will create a copy on the desktop but iTunes will not see it. Reopen iTunes and you should see an option to scan for media. Once you do this iTunes should re-build your iTunes library and It should be able to sync. If it syncs fine and all your content is available go to the iTunes library that you dragged to the desktop and delete it as you should not have a new one. If this does not work absolutley do NOT delete the iTunes library that is on the desktop.
Call Apple and let them know of the steps you have taken and request some help. This should fix it though! -

What do these mean? It seems that it has to do with the NVRAM, or this is related to video cards?

The logs are filled with random weird text and sometimes with scary-looking entries and cryptic messages. And occasionally with real errors. (You should see the contents of the logs on server systems, and particularly when something actually is wrong. Then you get to learn more about Unix and the command line, and the various tools and packages, and about troubleshooting. If you're supporting your own servers, that is. But I digress.)
Irrespective of this Console.app questioning, there are some tasks that I'd suggest are far higher priority tasks to investigate and resolve. If you've not already addressed these tasks, of course. In particular, ensure that you have current (external) backups, created via an external disk and Time Machine, or via a Time Capsule and Time Machine, or using some add-on archival software of some sort.
If your data is particularly valuable, consider creating a periodic copy of your data and store it at another location.
Having reliable and tested backups has avoided creating sudden increases in some of those vast tracts of grey hair that were mentioned else-thread. Lacking backups has created grey hair and occasional bald patches for some folks, particularly when those backups were skipped or when the backups had silently failed and the failure went unnoticed, and particularly then when the computer or the disk(s) had failed or the contents on the RAID array had become corrupted, or when the whole computer had been stolen or... ...When bad things happened to good data. -
Can someone shed some light on boot rom "MP21.007F.B08"?
Looking for general knowledge on this version, it seems out of place and I am currently experiencing issues with my MacPro (April 2007 Dual Quads) where the stepping is different on the CPU's rendering 64 bit Virtualization unusable.
A search on Apple's site renders no results. According to apple my version should be: MP21.007F.B06
I appear to have one physical CPU that implements VT VMCS revision 7 and another one that implements VT VMCS revision 11. These processors are not compatible for VT execution. One CPU is family 6 model 15 stepping 7 and the other is family 6 model 15 stepping 11. Intel has released a microcode patch that addresses this issue for processors that differ only in the stepping. (Apparently according to some comments I found online "rummor only" apple addressed this with EFI 1.2 but I can't apply)

I own as above a MAC PRO (Early 2008) this has a RAID card installed along with two 15k.7 cheetah hdd (320gb) and a spare drive, (which i made a regular drive)
a while ago i had to replace the RAID card battery, so i did this, over a year later the same thing happened again, but as previous just left it and the system seemed fine for ages, until last night i was working in PHOTOSHOP and everything just froze and the screen kind of appeared GREEN, could not do a single thing. So restarted the mac, this time grey screen for ages and a message appeared, (macs version of blue screen) (see attached).
I restarted the machine and this time a flashing question mark folder!
could not do a thing.
so i found my copy of snow leopard and got the computer to run this and at least launch the DISK UTILITY and (Interestingly in the drop down menu RAID UTILITY was also in the menu) but it did not matter which utility i used the (RAID or DISK) neither could see any of drives, just the dvd drive.
so looked around on you tube and various forums and discovered if i take out the RAID CARD and re-plug the main lead from the RAID card back in to the LOGIC BOARD I would be reverting the MAC to a normal regular non-RAID computer.
After performing this HARDWARE task and inserting all three HDD, and running the DISK utility from the drop down menu via the SNOW LEOPARD disc.
(interestingly since the RAID card had been removed the RAID UTILITY from the drop down menu no longer appeared). running disk utility I can now only see the regular (spare) hdd and DVD Drive, but the two RAID HDD , again, still do not show up DISK UTILITY?
O.K. so i could chuck out the RAID card (AND RAID HDD) and just go with a regular set-up, and run a back restore from Time Machine on a NEW hdd purchased.
but what is wrong with the RAID, is the card at fault or are both HDD used for the RAID knackered? can i perform any tests, to see whats what?
thanks for your help in advanced.hello people, the issue was in fact the GRAPHICS card nothing to do with the HDD or RAID system ( although this did cause issues with the RAID system it basically lost its way) below is my replay to another similar problem some one else had!
working in photoshop and then everything stopped working and the lot froze! only option was to force shutdown (via button).
and try to restart, hoping all was fine, this was not the case :-(
I had the added issue of the RAID card system, that i have, this was confused to say the lease and would not behave or work, causing the start up to hang.
so i thought the HDD must be bust and the root cause. ( but soon learnt it was not the cause )
...bought a new HDD removed the RAID card and replugged the cable from RAID card into LOGIC board, ( making the computer act like any normal non-RAID system). I managed to install the OSX, using the snow leopard disk way. once the mac was running, i started to notice the screen would flicker and started to see 'artefacts'. so i started to reveal my symptoms to the web and forums and soon discovered that my graphics card could be the issue all along?.
(nvidia geforce 8800gt 2x dvi).
I read up on that a fix, could be either A. reply the thermal paste, as the card could be over heating or B. stick the card in the oven trick.
Tried option A. first and nothing still issues, so last night took the plunge carried out option B. and ta da it worked! i even managed to run
from my new HDD my lasted install OS X, absolutely fine. I then thought, maybe i could repair my RAID so replugged all the HARDWARD back in and
carried out a disk repair and disk permissions on drives( took a small amount of time), via the SNOW LEOPARD disc - (Disk utilities) and this worked and now have my system working as it was just over 6 days ago.
what was the cost to get this? bought a new hdd so 40.00gbp and thermal paste and cleaner kit ( your still need to do this ) search video card trick on you tube.
and renew thermal paste, approx 15.00gbp, technically i don't need the new HDD, but it was all part of the trial and error way i went. ( i do have extra storage as a result!)" -

Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.

Thanks for that 'sberman' - because my iPhone is backed-up to my work computer (only at this stage) I have had to call our IT Department in Adleaide. (4 times this morning). The last guy managed to get the phone into 'DFU Mode' - no more recovery mode screen - (kind of 'asleep' perhaps) from my understanding of same. I am awaiting a call again from IT so they can get my computer to actually recognise my iPhone on the C Drive. This also happened to one of my colleagues in Newman (WA). She got so frustrated with the whole process that she bought another phone the next time she was in 'civilisation.' She hasn't had any problems since. (Cross fingers).

So I downloaded acrobat XI Standard from the Adobe website, when I go to install it, it says "Adobe XI Pro" at the top left corner. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? I have a volume license for XI Std. so I would like to use the Std. version.

when registering my iphone on itunes the message - the sim card insertedin this iphone does not appear to be supported - can anyone shed some light on this and tell me a way around this problem? the phone itself is an english phone and tried to register with a spanish sim and that message appeard, so i tried with my iphone sim which is english and the same message appeared!
