Please Delete Your Leftover Temporary Files

Wouldn't it be great if when Photoshop is run it would delete temporary files from past crashes?
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/679996?tstart=0
Thank you.

Photoshop has been doing that for a long time.
At launch, before creating scratch files, it looks for old files and deletes them.
The only way that could fail is if the OS thinks the files are in use and can't be deleted.

  • Deleting Soundtrack Pro temporary files

I am building up quite a collection of temporary files in Soundtrack Pro. Can I safely delete temporary files after the main files have been saved and worked with in Final Cut Pro, or will FCP and STP be searching forever for these files if they are deleted.
    Thanks.

    Dear All,
I will give it a try. Some of the projects are archived for future use and I will open them at a later date. I don't want to destroy any temporary files that I may need later. I assume that a temporary file is just that...temporary until the main file is saved and then everything is stored in the main file that has been saved. I am not sure about this, however, as DVD Studio Pro searched forever for a deleted file even when the main file was gone...I had to trash the preferences to make it stop searching. So, I will give it a try first by moving the files and then delete them. Thanks.

  • Is it OK to delete your downloaded program files after they have been installed?

I have several years worth of downloaded program as well as other files that have already been installed and, I would like to delete them to make more space available on my HD.  Is it OK to delete these files?
Thanks in advance for any help with this issue.

I used to keep the installers of most everything until - a very long time later - I finally realized that by the time I may need it again, it was outdated and I needed to download or pay for a newer version because the old one was no longer compatible with my current OS. So, I've changed it a bit and now only keep installers for which no new installers/versions are available, or if I think I may want to revert to an earlier version. The remainder now wind up in the trash immediately after the install.
Not that it matters at all, but your profile says MBP, but you said a Mac Pro (two very different machines). But, as I said, in the context of your question, it does not matter at all.

Please help me..its a huge issue. Thanks in advance.

    Sorry Steven,
I saw your solution. Thanks for that. But I just want to know, do we have any setups in XML Publisher Administrator or bursting control file to delete the files automatically once the concurrent request is completed.
And one more thing I found is, In the xml administrator, General properties i have specified the temporary directory as '/tmp'. But all the temporary files are loading in '$XDO_TOP/temp' directory. Why is this..

  • I can not open Firefox. Keep getting the error message "Failed to read the configuration file. Please contact your system administrator." What do I do?

I can not open Firefox. I keep getting the message "Failed to read the configuration file. Please contact your system administrator." I have tried uninstalling Firefox and then reinstalling it but without success. What should I do?

Which Fx version? When you uninstalled Fx, did you <b>reboot</b> computer before reinstall?
Also, check for / delete any leftover files in the Fx programs install folders, before reinstall?
Is your profile in the default location or custom location?
Have you tried creating a <u>new, <b>completely</b> clean profile</u> - to test (then make sure to select that profile to start Fx - from the Profile Manager)? (no addons or plugins installed).
Does the user acct (that Fx fails under) have access ("rights") to all locations - especially for Fx profiles location?

  • I have an iMac 5.1 with Mac OSX 10.6.8 and 2 GB memory and an L2 cache of 4 GB.   lately I have been receiving error messages of " start up disk almost full; please delete files." is the start up disk the same thing as the hard drive?

I have an iMac 5.1 with Mac OSX 10.6.8 and 2 GB memory and an L2 cache of 4 GB.   lately I have been receiving error messages of " start up disk almost full; please delete files." is the start up disk the same thing as the hard drive?  I opened the hard drive and from the column on the left of the menu I've selected "search for" and under that " all images" then "all documents"  I've deleted a few files from each. Are documents and images that I have deleted from here also deleted from the folders on my desktop?

You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Delete any other mail in your Junk folders. Also, look through your Sent Mail to see if there is anything that can be deleted.
Other things you can do to gain space.
Once you have around 15 GBs regained, do a search, download and install OmniDisk Sweeper.
This app will help you locate files that you can move/archive and/or delete from your system.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • How can I delete temporary files in FF. This is very simple in IE but feature cannot be found in FF

IE has a simple means to delete both cookies and temporary files. I can delete cookies in FF but there is no way found to delete temporary files. This is a design feature flaw I assume since I cannot imagine this feature is not in the design..just can't be found. I have no idea about the educated guess of "installed plugins". My use of Firefox is just plain vanilla. I've never added any plugins to it.
    Any help appreciated.

  • Anyone besides me get an annoying popup that cannot be deleted/closed reading:  FaceTime Password Please enter your password for "my e-mail account name" Never used FaceTime.

    Dear Community,
Anyone besides me get an annoying popup that cannot be deleted/closed reading:
    FaceTime Password
Please enter your password for "my e-mail account name"
It happened to me today for the first time since upgrading to Mavericks 10.9.3, no "stop lights" in the title bar of the popup, in fact nothing at all.
I've never established a FaceTime account. So I tried to delete FaceTime from the Applications folder on the "system" disk thinking this may eliminate the popup. Mavericks informed me "Cannot delete FaceTime as it is used by the operating system.
Is this a MAC virus? Or is this an example user community alpha/beta testing that Apple just announced?
    TIA,
    GonzoBernelli

That being the case, why then did the FaceTime popup even appear in the first place?
It's not clear to me what it is. If it occurs again, please take a screenshot of the popup and post it in a reply.
To take a screenshot hold ⌘ Shift 4 to create a selection crosshair. Click and hold while you drag the crosshair over the area you wish to capture and then release the mouse button. You will hear a "camera shutter" sound. This will deposit a screenshot on your Desktop.
If you can't find it on your Desktop look in your Documents or Downloads folder.
When you post your response, click the "camera" icon above the text field:
This will display a dialog box which enables you to choose the screenshot file (remember it's on your Desktop) and click the Insert Image button.
The screenshot attachment option for this support site appears only on computers - not on iPads.
⌘ Shift 4 and then pressing the space bar captures the frontmost window.
⌘ Shift 3 captures the entire screen.
Drag the screenshot to the Trash after you post your reply.

  • How to display attachment and delete temporary file  in Workflow

    Hello
I have one question regarding function module SAP_WAPI_DIALOG_NOTES_DISPLAY.
When a text file is selected, the target file is downloaded to Sapworkdir, and it's automatically deleted after displaying,
    This is pretty good behavior.
But an Excel file is selected, the downloaded file is remained.
I did not test other file types, but I need to delete such temporary files.
If anyone would answer to the following questions, it's highly appreciated.
    1. This is a systematic difference or not?
    2. How to know exact downloaded temporary file's name.  ( I could search Sapworkdir and guess, but its' not good idea, I think.)
    Thank you and Best regards,
    Yuko

    Hi,
you can try to use the:
    <b>ConsumerTreeListPreview</b>
layout for KM navigation ivew (or customize to your own).
This layout shows a folder tree on the left, a document list on the right. When you click on a document from the list it shows the contents of the file on the bottom of the iview.
    Hope this helps,

  • Please help. When exporting a 720p video using Quicktime Conversion in FCP it saves some extra temporary files to my computer. The file is called ICMMultiPassStorage. This file gets so large that eventually the program and exporting process crashes.

Please help. When exporting a 720p video using Quicktime Conversion in FCP it saves some extra temporary files to my computer. The temporary file it saves is called ICMMultiPassStorage. This file gets so large that eventually the program and exporting process crashes. I have been able to locate the file using GrandPerspective and close out of FCP to delete it. But when I try exporting the movie again it creates the ICMMultiPassStorage file again. I have made sure my scratch disks are set to my external hard drive so I know that isn't the issue. How do I fix this problem so these temporary files are not being stored on my internal hard drive instead of my external? Thanks!

Try exporting the timeline "using current settings" via Make QuickTime Movie, then submit that clip to Compressor for the transcode. This should be faster and less painful.

  • Temporary files are not getting deleted

    Hi All,
I am using informix database and my code is reading BLOB from database and writing the image to different storage media. The program has to run for number of images. It is writing to media successfully but not exiting even after printing the last statement in program. it is generating some temporary files ifxb_* . If I use System.exit() garbage collection is not happeneing and temporary files not getting deleted.
I am storing BLOB to an InputStream. and closing all the Connections and ResultSet before exit.
Can anyone please tell why program is not exiting normally?

It doesn't make much sense to me to go through extra work to make code insecure, when doing things the right way is easier and more secure.@yawmark - I get it, relax.
I never used them last year because I only found out about there existance about 4 Months ago.
And guess what I have never used normal statements for something like that again.
Only time I use a normal Statement is when I run that query only once, and no the entire query is hardcoded so no need for any worries due to security.Um ... D'you post this to the wrong forum/topic?
Anyway, OP ... I don't know a thing about informix, so perhaps a trip over to IBM would help ... they have lots of information on their site. You might want to try a different forum right here at java.sun.com as well.
About those closing of Connections and Resultsets ... are they in finally clauses? They should be.

  • "An error occurred while opening the file dialog. Please save your presentation, exit, and restart PowerPoint."

In PowerPoint 2013 on Windows 7 - 64 bit, when
File / Save as is selected, an error message comes up stating, "An error occurred while opening the file dialog. Please save your presentation, exit, and restart PowerPoint." This is an intermittent issue and also
affects Excel 2013. I have tried repairing it, done windows update and also uninstalled and reinstalled but no luck. I have researched this issue but it relates to Office 2007 and 2010 and the resolution does not support 2013.
Has anyone come across this issue? If so how did you resolve it?
    Many thanks….

    Hi,
You mentioned you tried some steps but I'm not sure what they are, you may try my suggestion to resolve this issue, follow these steps:
    Click Start, right-click Computer, click
Properties, and then click Advanced system settings.
On the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables.
Locate and select the __COMPAT_LAYER variable, and then click Edit.
Set the value of the __COMPAT_LAYER variable to EnableThemes. Or, delete the __COMPAT_LAYER variable.
If the issue persists, we can troubleshoot this problem in Clean Boot to determine whether background programs are interfering with PowerPoint:

  • Deleting Temporary Files - Privacy issue

I have a privacy question regarding word. If I'm working on a personal word document at work and I save it to an external usb drive, is there still some evidence of it, like a temporary file saved on my work computer hard drive?
If so, is there a way to delete it? Also, if the document is password protected, would it stay that way in the temp file version?
    Thanks everyone!

Temp files are only saved by Word if it crashes. If you have Word's preferences configured to create timed backups of files then there will be a backup saved of any edited file. You can prevent that by simply disabling the automatic backup option in Word's preferences. Temp files will not be password protected as far as I'm aware unless you have protected your account with File Vault. I'm not sure but I don't think Word has any internal way of saving a file with password protection. You can check Word's help to find out if that's possible.

  • IMac saying "start up disc is nearly full please delete some files"

My iMac is one week old today. I've got hardly anything installed on it and Macintosh HD say's I have 252.87GB available space.
Yesterday I started getting an pop up saying "start up disc is nearly full please delete some files". I can't understand why as I have so much free space available.
I've googled around and not found anything that could help. Just a few people saying use Disk Utility etc. I've done all that now and it still comes up.
    Any help welcome
