can someone please suggest why my ipod doesn't start up. when i try and turn it on, you can hear it trying to whir up but then dies then tries to whir up again but dies again.
then a sad ipod cartoon comes up. i went to the support page and it suggests that the ipod needs to go into service. i'd rather not take in to service firstly because of the cost and that it would probably cost more to serice than the ipod is worth. and secondly, the hassle.
please someone suggest anything.

Hello Everyone,
Please please please dont say YES ... i tried to update itunes to the latestest version last Saturday, it downloaded to the prompt screen where is says "RUN" software, UNFORTUNATELY my 16 year old wanted to use MSN and crashed the PC
Now everytime i try to double click itunes on the desk top it wont open and says something like "cannot open, not all components installed"
Is there anyway i can reinstall without loosing all her library??? if so there will be floods of tears!!!! it took me/her months to build up her library!!!
Any help would be very gratefully recieved

Well, in spite of your plea, I'm going to say "yes". Yes, you can probably reinstall iTunes without losing the library. But I would strongly suggest that you make a backup of any tracks that you/she purchased from the iTunes Music Store or that would otherwise be difficult to replace before you reinstall, just in case something goes further amiss.
BTW, if by "PC" you mean that you're running a Windows system, for future questions or if you experience problems reinstalling, you'll normally get the best and quickest advice if you post in the iTunes for Windows area.

Though I do not love my actual job... I get to watch TV shows all day in my ipod. But the latest update messed up with my TV shows.. I dont have my TV shows sorted by name..... NOW I just have them all in disorder... I hate it......
I restored my ipod..... but i was hopping to get a previous version of OS..... but no...... ****

Im sorry that you have some issue with iOS 4.2.1 however please do not tell people not to update to iOS 4.2.1. 99.99% of people do not have an issue with the latest software. If you are having issues have you try the basics; reset, restore, restart?

Every time i go on my itunes its as if i have just got it and i have never used it before it's as if it resets over night and the next day i have to load all my apps, music and movies back on to it. if anyone can help or if anyone knows someone who can please say something because its a right pain in the neck. Your problem is normally caused by a program locking the iTunes library so that iTunes can't close properly. There have been a number of causes fro this.
There is a problem with media management software Vaio xml library Manager, the Vaio content manager and the Vaio Music Box software

Work around:
In Control Panel, turn off Vaio Content Folder Watcher and VAIO Content Metadata Intelligent Analyzing Manager.

Sony has issued upgrades for some models, check you Sony download site to see if there is one available.
I would check the work around first.
If that's not it, try temporarily disabling you continuous backup to see if that is the cause.

I just bought a brand new desktop. I have been busting my brain trying to figure out how to get the songs on my iTunes library from the old computer to the new one. Please don't tell me that once you register to one computer, you have to keep it for the rest of your life or start over!? Why can't I log on to any computer with my iTunes account and my stuff pop up in order on any computer I log on too. I logged on to my old computer and the new one at the same time and one has all my music and the other is empty. Why isn't my account universal? Its like have two different accounts or profiles. How do I get all my songs on my iPod on to my new computer and not just the ones I purchased through iTunes but the ones that I had on CDs?

Connect your iPod to your old PC, open iTunes select the iPod and check the box that says Enable disk use
Now you can use the iPod as a removable drive and copy the music on it and transfer it to the new PC
Add the songs to the new iTunes library, select Store>Authorize computer so that you can play your purchased songs on the new PC also

Please dont erase music

i posted a bulliten earlier about itunes not openeing and about updating and all...well it updated but to update it it's going to have to erase all of my data and it says my music will be erased to.....i payed for all of this...how can it erase it?? i dont want it to erase it...how can i save all of my songs???

that is my problem....itunes will not open my last post is about how im trying to update my itunes so that it will open...well when i tried to update it, it stopped opening saying that i needed a new quicktime player...well wehn i did that it said that it was missing files...well now that i found the ipod updater on my start menu it says to restore it that i will lose all of my data including my music...i found all of my itunes im my music folder and if i get down to the song and click on it it tries to open up itunes so i think that it will be ok in that folder but will it import when i update the ipod and lose all of my data?? or will it delete it from the my music folder?

When you upgrade your pc to itunes 10.4 you only win a lot of problems.
Your cpu will hang at 100% of use and your pc will be too slow.
The service AMDS Apple Mobile Device Service take a 50% of your cpu.
It not will be possible enter to itunes store.
It not will posible sync your devices (iphone, ipad, ipod..)
Maybe you lost your music library.
Maybe you will need to uninstall all the apple software and reinstall it.
You lost a lot of your time (hours) with problems.
Please don´t upgrade to itunes 10.4.
Believe me, this version is veru problematic.

Also it is nice to know that some people have no problems with iTunes there are howeveer a lot of us that do. I have several PCs some where iTunes works like a dream, others which are new and excellent in every way escept when it comes to iTunes. The only issues I get seem to be iTunes related. So I feel completely entitled to give Apple a bit of critique.
The problem maybe the time between updates or missed updates, who knows, there is probally problem with the user files or registry. A solution, MAYBE, is do a complete uninstall, that means uninstalling not just iTunes but the files and registries associated with iTunes. There is a page somewhere on iTunes support that takes you through this process it takes a while and lots of restarting. Once done re-install iTunes 10.4.

Unless you had FindMyiPhone already setup and wifi is on and the iPod is within range of a open wifi spot or a spot that it is set to automatically join and the iPod has not been restore, you are out of luck. If stolen, report it to the police and change the passwords for accounts used on the iPod.

after spending hours trying to solve the problem, my Ipod still doesn't work.
when i reinstalled my AMDS, my computer still did not recognize my Ipod in recovery mode. so i tried to update my usb drivers, but this did absolutely not work, i even had to restore my computer, because my usb-ports didn't recognize any usb's connected to my computer.
and the article about error messages, i had already tried that one before i posed my question on this forum.
i am also really busy with schoool this week, and with watching all the matches of the World Cup in South-Africa.
i can really be disappointed that I can't get my Ipod back to work.
so maybe you have any (better/more) suggestions.
By the way, it is not your fault that my Ipod isn't back to work, you have helped me a lot.

Hey apple i know this isnt a question but its a sugustion i was thinking make an case with an external ipod keyboard if you do make it please dont make it expensive ok you should price it around $30-$40.

I am running a G4 Dual Processor with full RAM. I am unemployed and will start Windows certification classes to get hired. I have a P1 PC that I want to connect to my DSL service through my Airport. What do I need to do? Cost isn't an object.

You will need to get a wireless (802.11g) adapter for the PC.

Your best bet, if you really want to run the current trial
version on
your IntelMac, is to load BootCamp or Parallels and install
(!) Windows
on your Mac, which will then likely allow you to run
Authorware in it's
required Windows environment on your Mac.
