Please fix cover flow and quick look asap.!

Maverick upgrade put my cover flow and quick look unuseable.  shows wrong Icon for file. I ran disk utility several times to no avail.

Apple probably don't read this user forum, so submit feedback if you want to talk to them directly.
http://www.apple.com/feedback/
This is a place to get help from other users, so if you can provide more info we may be able to work it out, otherwise you will be stuck waiting for it to work itself out or for Apple to change something.
This app will create a system report that could highlight what is happening on your system (it's possible for old software to break new code on Mavericks).
http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck run it & paste the output here.
You should try Quicklook with several files of different types to work out what works & what doesn't. Look for patterns too, e.g. Do jpegs on the desktop work but not when they are inside you Pictures folder.
What exactly did you run in Disk Utility and did you do that when booted from the recovery partition?
Have you rebooted since installing Mavericks?
I would also recommend trying a 'safe boot' to see if Quicklook works in that reduced mode (not everything works in safe mode so don't be alarmed if an app won't open etc).

  • Cover Flow or Quick Look and InDesign

I'm actually surprised I can't find this issue raised here in the past 2-3 years....  Both (REALLY GREAT) features work well with PDF, Photoshop or even my Illustrator (EPS) files, but files saved in InDesign (CS4 & CS5) show only the official icon, no preview...
    ...Am I missing something here?
    ...Thanks.

There's a misunderstanding here... I'm referring to open an InDesign document FROM WITHIN InDesign, not from the Finder menu....

  • Cover flow and album sort issues

I just got a 80GB iPod classic for Christmas and I have noticed some annoying differences between iTunes cover flow and iPod cover flow:
    1. In iTunes cover flow, when you have songs with "Unknown Album", they clutter up the cover flow for each artist. In iPod cover flow, they are sent to the back of the cover flow in a nice little "Various Artists" cover. I like how this works on the iPod better.
    2. iTunes cover flow sorts by album artist, so you don't see a separate album for each non-album artist song.
For example: If I set my album artist for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack to "Saturday Night Fever" (don't ask why, this is how i like it sorted) then I will only see one "Saturday Night Fever" rather than one for Bee Gees, one for Kool & the Gang, etc.
iPod cover flow sorts by artist, so you see a separate album for each non-album artist song. I like the way this works in iTunes better.
    3. When sorting by "Album by Year" in iTunes, syncing the iPod doesn't seem to follow the same sorting. Albums are still sorted on the iPod alphabetically. I want them to sort by year on my iPod.
So I would appreciate it if someone could help me with all 3 of these issues. As you can see, sometimes iTunes is better for me, sometimes iPod is better for me.

    3. Playlists should be sorted in the same way as they are in iTunes. The Cover Flow order is fixed.
This is not the case, at least not with iTunes 7.5.0.20 and my 80GB Classic running 1.0.3 on it (current version as of this writing). In iTunes, under LIBRARY, I select Music, and I have my music sorted via *Album by Year*. This works perfectly in iTunes. I'll use my Soundgarden library as an example, as it shows the problem nicely.
    *_iTunes order_:*
    Ultramega OK
    Louder Than Love
    Screaming Life/Fopp
    Badmotorfinger
    Superunknown
    Songs From The Superunknown
    Down on the Upside
    A-Sides
That's ordered by date and is perfect. +Ultramega OK+ was released way back in 1988, while A-Sides was released nearly 10 years later in 1997. In Cover Flow View it works great. However, in the iPod it's sorted alphabetically, which is completely wrong:
    *_iPod Classic_:*
    A-Sides
    Badmotorfinger
    Down on the Upside
    Louder Than Love
    Screaming Life/Fopp
    Songs From The Superunknown
    Superunknown
    Ultramega OK
This is totally wrong. And I haven't yet found a way to force it.
Apple, please, this shouldn't be that difficult.

  • Mail 3.6 (on MacOS 10.5.7) doesn't display 'Save' and 'Quick Look' buttons

I have recently updated to MacOS 10.5.7 and discovered a strange glitch in viewing certain emails with attachments. For a small minority of emails with attachments, the 'paperclip' icon appears in the mail list, indicating the presence of an attachment, but neither the icon for the attachment nor the 'save' and 'quick look' buttons appear. Options to save the attachment or quick look the attachment under the File menu do work.
Clearly the attachment is there but Apple Mail 3.6 doesn't know how to indicate it. This inconsistency in the interface's feedback about attachments has been very irritating.
Remedies I have attempted thus far:
    • Rebuilding the mail box (no change)
    • Disabling all Mail extensions (bundles)
    • Examining the raw mail code (nothing obvious wrong, but I am not an expert).
The problem is currently present for some Microsoft Word file attachments, but I have no clue if it is limited to just those attachments.
I will note the latest email with this failure to display attachments was sent by a colleague using Apple Mail on an iPod Touch, so I can't believe it is a mangled attachment. It is not limited to a single sender, so again, no reason to believe mangled attachments.
I would really appreciate any suggestions for how to fix this...

I disabled the mail extensions by removing them from the ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/ directory. I didn't think the mail extensions could get patched into Mail.app by any other means, but if you care to clarify I would appreciate it.

  • Cover Flow and pictures of album...

Alright, hey peeps, I have a SLIGHT(ya right) problem. When I take songs from my comp to my iPod classic (80g), when I go on "Songs" it shows an album right? Yeah, well, the thing is, when I go on SONGS, it only shows ONE album picture. Thats ok, but when I go to cover flow, the other album pictures (That are visible on Windows Media Player) are NOT there! Where are the picture?! And when I listen to the song (the cover of the album in this one is a large ship stuck in an iceberg) and its not there while you can clearly see it in WIndows Media Player. Please people help out because I AM VERY FURIOUS!! I AM BEGGING FOR YOUR KIND AND HELPFUL WORDS!!
    ~Rammstein~

iTunes will display a cover in many of it's views provided at least one track from the album has embedded artwork. The iPod appears to load only the artwork from track one to create the cover flow and album views which means that it can sometimes fail to display art for albums even when you can see the art in iTunes. Further, when tracks are played on the iPod, artwork is displayed if and only if it exisits in the currently playing track, so track one may show art while track two does not.
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts13.php for Macs. If you're using Google or other FWSE to locate suitable images they should be jpg's and ideally square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus.

  • "Save" and "Quick Look" buttons not showing in Apple Mail

Dear list members, in Apple Mail on my new iMac, the buttons "Save" and "Quick Look" are not showing in the messages. That's very odd, because I can see those buttons in my old mac normally. I tried one solution proposed in another thread (Mail>Preferences>View>Details>All) but it didn't work. Could you please help me? Thank you.

Sorry, if I'm mistaken, but I thought this was the OSX forum. In my title bar, I see:

  • Iphone pauses and flips to cover flow and back with other earphones

If I use any other earphones than the ones that are provided, my iphone pauses and plays randomly, and flips to cover flow and back without any movement... any help?

Connect the two devices that are showing large backups to your computer and check the capacity guage in iTunes to see how large "Other" is.  Sometimes this can grow to be extrememly large, requiring you to restore the device to reduce it to a more reasonable level (approx. 1GB).

  • No Covers in grid and list modes, but in Cover Flow and Information

I have Itunes 9.0.2 and the Covers of the songs are only shown in Cover Flow and under Information. If I'm in grid mode or other modes they are not shown. In the left down corner there is only black. Any idea?

    It's the same for me.
I have added the cover s to every song. Under XP Home 32 Bit everything ist ok, und Windows 7 64 Bit the covers are there in the information and in coverflow, but not in the list an dgrid layout.
When I klick on the ? and then on "Info" the About-Window appears, but its content is only black too.
I updated the driver for the Nvidia GT230, but it didn't help.
    Any idea anybody?

  • 10.5.1 did not fix Cover Flow pixation

Can I assume that I'm not the only one still having a problem with Cover Flow horribly pixelating images that are far larger than Cover Flow is attempting to display them?
For me, full 10 megapixel images display fine in cover flow, but my processed 1200-pixels on the long side images are nearly indecipherable. Had hoped that Apple might fix this, but... the list of fixes for 10.5.1 was pretty uninteresting.

Hey, if you want to see something REALLY horrible, take a look at some Photoshop images saved with Photoshop's custom thumbs from the 1990s. I think those were 32x32, and on my old 7100 it was way cool--Windows 95 didn't even HAVE custom thumbs. Here's what the old thumbs look like in icon view at a mere 128 setting (not even the possible giant size available in Cover Flow):
I remember when Macs moved to the 128x128 thumbs, and how gorgeous and detailed they looked, compared to the old ones. And, of course, eventually a Photoshop update moved to that sized custom thumbs as well. Apple is now in the process of moving to 512x512 custom thumbs, or you can have NO custom thumbs and just let the Finder draw thumbs "on the fly" for you. No doubt Adobe will also eventually update to the bigger thumbs, but right now they are still at 128x128, and if an item has a custom thumb Finder assumes that's what you want to use and displays them. If you have the size of the Cover Flow section of the Finder window set to take advantage of Apple's 512 thumbs they will look lovely, but Adobe's custom thumbs will be blown up by a factor of 4 and look terrible. You can either shrink the Cover Flow section down to the optimum size for the custom thumbs, or you can strip them off and let Finder draw them. You can even use an Automator workflow to replace them with thumbs drawn by the system rather than by Photoshop (which is what I've been doing).

  • JPG files unreadable in cover flow and preview but can be read in quicktime

After upgrading to 10.5 some jpg files (canon 30D shots) can not be shown in cover flow or preview. Also the files will not import in iPhoto (import hangs). The files can be read with quicktime.
If I press 'get info' for the folder that contains the jpg's the Finder seems to crash, and quickly restarts.
If I try to open the file in preview, nothing happens (while other jpg's are fine)
If the files are transferred to another mac running 10.5 the same problem occurs
    Permissions seem to be ok
    Any suggestions?

    My problem is similar.
Create a file in Illustrator CS3
    Open File in Photoshop CS3
    Save File as JPEG
    - Quicklook - Crashes Finder
    - Get info - Crashes Finder
    - Drag into Mail - nothing happens
    - Open in Preview - nothing happens
    - Open in Photoshop - all ok
Workaround - Open file in photoshop and Copy and paste into a new document.
Guess that strips out some Metadata.
This is also what caused a Numbers.app file from opening - the document had a jpeg imported. Solved by showing package contents on the numbers file and deleting the offending jpeg.
This is reproducible on 10.5, 10.5.1, Intel and PPC systems.

  • Why does my cover flow scroll bar look like THIS?

I'll load up iTunes 7 later tonite and see what happens.

  • Cover flow and Album Art Peculiarities

Ordinarily when I import an album into iTunes, all the songs on the CD are consolidated under a single album cover reducing the number of instances of art in Cover flow. As iTunes plays down through the list of songs, the same album cover is displayed in Cover flow. I can also see the next album in the que on either side of the album currently playing.
Lately though, I'm seeing an instance of album art for each song on an album. For example, if there are twelve songs on the album, there will be twelve instances of the album art work in Cover flow.
I have looked carefully at the song/album information to ensure it is consistent for each song on the album and it all appears to be same so I've just about given up.
I like to scan in my own CD covers to get the highest resolution artwork possible (generally 175k in size) and because it can be very time consuming, I no longer ask iTunes to search for album art.
I select the entire list of songs in the album and perform a Get Info and drop the artwork onto the Art well and Cover flow will react in one of two ways; it either consolidates all songs under a single piece of art or it will display the art for each song on the album!
    What am I doing wrong?
    G4 Dual Mirrored Door

For the instances where you are getting multiple album art showing in Cover Flow, are those songs from a compilation album? If the artist name isn't exactly the same for each song, iTunes will list them individually. You will have to: identify them as a compilation or alter the tag info or use the Sorting option to group them together.

  • Firmware 1.0.2 released - fixes Cover Flow album view

    Hi folks,
Didn't see this posted yet - just synced my 3G nano and firmware 1.0.2 was available.
Cover Flow is now showing albums exactly as the default album view in iTunes. Hooray!
    -Nikhil

The only thing which is now better in coverflow is, that compilations are now hidden, but coverflow still lists up the artists in alphabetical order, not the albums ! Why?
Apple, it can't be so difficult to let coverflow list up albums, _not artists_, in alphabetical order.
Compilations are now listed just once (as they should be), but there's always listed the first artists name of a compilation, instead of "various artists". Of course you can set in every single compilation the first tracks "sorting name" as "various artists", but it can't be so difficult for apple to make that as default, as it works in iTunes.
Please don't notice my terrible english. I'm a little bit upset >:-(
