Please help 790GX G65 wont POST

Hi MSI community,
I have a brand new 790GX-G65 as part of my all new build and it wont POST.
here's the system
790GX-G65 - winki edition (winki not connected)
Phennom X4 965 Black (AM3 package, 3.4GHz)
Corsair 400W PSU
2*2GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 - p/n cmd4gx3m2b1600c8 , which according to the reseller's website is guaranteed to support all DDR3 platforms from AMD
using the onboard ATI RADEON 3300 via the vga socket
I have the board outside the chassis on a peice of cardboard
the 24 pin connector, 4pin connector, heatsink fan, CPU, ram, keyboard(tried PS2 and USB ones) and monitor are the only things connected.
I have tried using each ram stick individually in slot1, both together in slots 1 and 2 and no ram at all.
In each case when i start the system the fans come on, the reset and power buttons light up, the five blue LEDs in the top right corner come on NB1,LED2,LED3,LED4 first then LED1 a second or so later, but nothing else happens.
no beep codes(have tried with and without the system speaker connected), no signal to the monitor (tried several monitors)
I've tried clearing the CMOS several times.
it seems to me like its a dead chip or board but i cant truly rule out ram.
anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
I will ask around to see if i can find another AM3 chip or board to test against but most of my friends went the intel route

I could understand the psu struggling if i had load of othe things running off it, but it's just the board and chip.
I'm happy that its not the board shorting out on the cardboard.
I've tried it with a couple of old ATI rage IIs I had lying around and theres no joy from either of those. both known to work in other pcs
I'm using the standard AMD HSF so the clip on that shouldn't have caused a problem. I didn't need a hammer to fit it!
HDD is not connected
CMOS battery seems fine
paperclip test was fine, fan spun up immediately

I cant be sure what bios version i have, its a brand new board and i havn't flashed it so whatever it shipped with, v1.4 I guess. Are there any known issues?

I'll try and lay my hands on a beefier PSU tomorrow, but with just chip and board it should run ok. I know it's near the bottom end of the recommended range but the PSU companies will always want to sell you more than you need.
One other thing I tried just for kicks was to start the board without the chip in at all,
the hsf still came on, the speaker still did nothing but only LED1 LED2 LED3 and LED4 came on, not NB1. I have no idea what (if anything) that means, but hopefullly someone on here does.
Anymore ideas out there? They would be gratefully received

Msi 790gx-g65 wont post after shtting off the night before

Tried turning it on this morning only to find out it wont post. Symptoms are....
1. Everything powers on, Fans. and all. but you cannot shut it off while holding the powerswitch in 4sec's.
only by unplugging the powersupply
2. All phase lights come on except for the #2 from the left #X###.
Only thing I can think of is it could either be the CPU of motherboard. I have already ruled out PSU Video And Memory since I took out the memory and didn't get any error codes at all, I have already done the out of the case test and reseated the CPU along with only using one stick of memory with the same exact results. this CPU worked alright but seemed to be a little on the hot side since I got it. could this be a dead CPU? HM.. I Don't know? you're opinions are greatly appreciated..thank you.

Only about a grain of rice give or take. Im buying a new motherboard. since the onboard video will not even work, I am confident that its the board. I have always bought MSI Motherboards but all were intel untill now. Seems that i may have gotten a faulty board. Its also been more than 30 days and I would have to send it back to msi and I doubt they would even take it back since I have put afterarket cooler on it. I'm sure they would blame me for it going bad. From the first day I seen high temps on this board, its not MSI's fault either.Thats just how things go. Maybe ill have more luck with the next board.

I am in an almost identical situation and it is ruining my christmas. My 790GX-G65 had been running with no problems for several months.
I was running a routine backup and the PC powered itself off - no it was not set to self power off, it had at least 10 minutes left to run.
I have gone through all the usual stuff and now the mainboard is on my test bench with just the cpu/hsf and a stick of RAM.
When I press the power button the fans spin up and leds come on - Does anybody know what the LED indicators indicate? I can find no reference in my manual or searching google. NB1, LED2, LED3 and LED4 light up, LED1 doesn't.
It doesn't post or even send a signal to the monitor - i.e. the monitor detects a cable is connected but is receiving no signal. I have tried using 2 separate pci-e cards as well as the integrated. It does appear to be on though. And it doesn't turn itself off. I left it running for just over 20 minutes and it was in the same state - fans running.
Also now holding the power button won't turn the mainboard off - plugging in an external power button doesn't work either. I have to turn off the PSU to power down the board.
Specs:
AMD Phenom II X4 955BE
MSI 790GX-G65
OCZ 2x2GB DDR3
Corsair HX520 Modular
Xigmatek HSF
MSI/ATI HD4870 1GB
none of it is overclocked and has never been.
I updated the mainboard bios several weeks ago via liveupdate in windows to iirc v1.5.
The only parts I don't have to test are a replacement CPU or PSU. I should be able to get my hands on another PSU tomorrow but anybody who can tell me what the LED indicators stand for would be a real help.

I seem to be having the same issue with my son's system. We put it together just over a year ago then all of sudden, BAM!!! Just wouldn't boot.
Symptom:
Press the power button, the fans spin up, with the exception of LED1, the remaining LED's light. No video signal is detected by the monitor. Although it appears to be powered up, the system doesn't POST, not a single beep. It just remains on.
Also now holding the power button down for any lenght of time, does not shutoff the power supply. To turn it off you must disconnect the AC power line to the supply.
System Specs:
MSI 785G-E53
AMD Phenom II X4 965BE
ADATA 2x2GB DDR3L-1333G
Has never been overclocked.
According to the user manual, the LED's are indicators for the "NB Phase" and "Active Phase Switching" mode for the CPU. I'm not sure what that means but the chart showing the LED status, shows that LED1, regardless of what power mode the CPU is in, should be lit. As the modes change the next LED# lights. My guess is that something happened to the phase 1 power mode circuitry on the mainboard.
I began troubleshooting by replacing the PC power supply. Disconnected all the peripherals, removed the mainboard from the case, reseated the processor and memory, tried to reset CMOS, etc... By the end of the week, I purchased another mainboard/processor bundle and quickly determined that the mainboard was root cause . The AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE CPU seems to be fine. I'll be sending this board back as an RMA.
I tried searching the internet for POST type issues for MSI 785G-E53 with very little results . After replacing the mainboard, I noticed the 785G-E53 lettering on the mainboard was actually a label, covering the silkscreen lettering 790GX-G65. Did another quick search on-line and found this forum posting.
I know this doesn't answer your question, but hopefully it will help others.
So what does all this mean, that is the "NB Phase" and "Active Phase Switching" LED's?

PLEASE HELP MY PHONE WONT TURN ON

Last night I was walking in the rain and a bit of water may have got inside my phone, it was working fine whilst I was in the car, but when I got to my front door I threw it into my bag so it turned off.
I left it about 20 minutes before I went back to it and I pressed the button to turn it on and I got the red light then the loading screen came up with the loading bar, the loading bar does not appear to move but the phone turns off after a couple of seconds and then repeats over and over again until I take the battery out, I tried taking the battery out many times and I'm still having the same issue.
I tried again when I woke up this morning and still the same. But about 10 minutes ago when I turned it on the call, blackberry button, escape and escape and end call button started flashing then my phone started vibrating and then a white screen flashed and then it went off and went back to what it was doing before.
The bar moved slightly more then went off and hasnt done the same since.
I have tried my brother battery and it does the same PLEASE HELP ME

I know it's been a bit since you posted this, but you never know.
First off -- with moisture intrusion into a BB, the only thing that is predictable is that the results will be unpredictable. I've seen some come back with no problems, others never work again at all, and everything in between (e.g., work for a while before failing).

It has recommended waiting periods that must be adhered to...no early checking. If the BB is not totally dry when it is powered on, that act can fry it...so waiting the full delay is critical.

Please help with an Indesign Post Card Problem!

Greetings! I am in need of some help! I am trying to create a post card in InDesign and then send it to a printing company. I sent my finished product to the company and they stated that it would not work out well. The font is too small, pictures are too fuzzy, dimensions are off, etc... I am confused because after reading and researching how to create a 4x6 post card in Indesign, I am still doing something wrong. Please, please help! Thank you for your time.

They would like a 4"x6" PDF. I only need to create the design for the front of the post card, not the back.

TS1383 My iPod touch charging pins are broken, but it still charged, now, its dead and it wont! Please help! It wont charge!

A few of my ipod touch pins were broeken, but it charged just fine, i had to keep it plugged in all the time though. Two days ago, even though it was plugged in, it died. Ive tried every outlet and cord, but it just wont charge. it turns on, the apple logo comes up, then it dies. it shows the dead battery sign once in a while, but wont charge. i tred plugging it up to my computer last night to charge it, but it still didnt charge. please help me!

I am slowly realizing that there are a lot of things that
require Flash Player 9. I have tried at least 15 times to install
this, but everytime it pops up the security box, i click install,
and the 'F' comes up with the spiral underneath. It goes away, the

first, if your not using firefox, got to mozilla.com and get
firefox. it the best browser there is and the add-ons that you can
get to enhance it are the bomb. Next time you come across something
that requires flash it will automaticlly download it.

Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.

heii every1 my ipod wont turn on heres wat happend,
I got the ipod on christmas and transfed over 500 songs and photos. (by the way its the new 30GBvideo) and it was working fine, then my uncle got me the iBlast and it worked good, then i went 2 my friends house and i was raining, it gota lil wet but it was fine. i got 2 my friends house and it froze then i reset it and now it wont turn on, i left it on overnight and it been like a day and i wont turn on its so kool and i want it 2 work somebody please help me

ok heres the story
i got a new ipod mini yesterday as a replacement for my old one, i plugged it into the computer but it didnt acknowledge it at all. so i charged it up and tried again, still no luck, so i came onto the apple website and have tried just about everything they have said and nothings worked. but i think that maybe it is set for a mac computer and i dont have one, i tried to restore it, and it said to plug in the ipod, i did, but the computer wont acknowledge it so it cant be restored!!!
what am i supposed to do???
please please help me its driving me insane!

Please help H55M-E33 no Post with Onboard graphics but...

Hi i have a H55M-E33 board with a Intel Corei 3 550 Cpu
I have a ATI HD 5770 installed and everything works fine i am in windows as i post this but the problem is I want to remove the ATI card and use the integrated graphics on the Corei 3 550
so I reboot the PC and go into the bios and select onboard graphics as my default selection then shut down the PC
i then removed the ATI HD 5770 and hooked up a VGA to the back of the motherboard and rebooted I can hear the beep and i can see My HD lights flashing like its booting into windows but my monitor says NO signal
I then shut it down and removed the vga cable and use just a HDMI cable and still no signal
What in the world is going on ?
the first day i setup this pc It worked and the integrated graphics worked fine but after i wanted to remove this ATI HD 5770 now the integrated graphics will not boot up
im going to a smaller case for a DVR setup so i cant use this ATI anymore
please help me

Some of the CMOS nonvolatile memory chips are really difficult to clear. Try doing a clear CMOS as follows:
1. Pull the power cord or turn of the rear power switch if you have one.
2. Pull out the CMOS battery (it looks like a coin)
3. Push the front power switch several times to clear the power caps
4. Push the clear CMOS button a few times with something like a bent paper clip. Make sure you feel it click and hold it in a few seconds.
5. Replace the CMOS battery - make sure the side with the "+" is facing up
6. Turn on the rear power switch or plug in the power cord.
7. Hit the front power switch.
If this doesn't work, you will at least know it's not a clear CMOS problem. It's actually surprising how many people have to pull the battery before the CMOS will clear.

Dropdown Box in WAD (Please help me as i posted many times,but no infos)

I have defined two drop down box one for Plant and other for Material.
Plant has 14 entries and Material drop down has 100 entried for every plant.
Now Dropdown Box is assigned with characteristcs info object 0PLANT
2nd Dropdown Box is assigned with characteristcs info object 0MATERIAL
Plant is used as an Compounding attribute of 0material.
When i select plant 4040 corresponding material numbers will be displayed in dropdown box of material.
After that i am selecting a material from that dropdown box.
Now if i change the plant it is not displaying me any values even though there is data for that plant.
The dropdown box keeps the previous selection and it is not getting refreshed .
How to solve this issue.
Please help me!

But already these options were selected.
My issues in if i select 1st drop down box and then select second drop down box the values are displayed.
Now if i make change in the 1st drop down box the previous selection of the first drop down box was not cleared and because of that it does not show the values in the chart or table.
i need to solve this issue,

Please help. my ical wont load after upgrading to ios 10.7.5

yesterday I upgraded to ios 10.7.5 and now my ical won't load. i press the ical button, it appears in the dock, the white dot next to it flashes for about 3 seconds and then the ical icon disappears without ever loading. Please help.

Please help! emac wont boot after installing os 9 alongside os x!

I am a teacher. My school recently gave me an emac to use in my classroom that has Tiger installed on it. I have a bunch of OS 9 games that I want the kids to be able to use, so I decided to try to install OS 9 alongside os x. I just installed OS 9 on the same partition as os x using an OS 9 emac installation disc. I had to install OS 9 on the same partition as OS X because I am not allowed to repartition the school computer. I tested out classic in OS X, but it didn't play the games well. I then tried to boot naively into os 9 by going into system preferences, then to startup, and then selected OS 9 as what to boot into. When I restarted, the only thing I was left with was a floppy disk with a flashing question mark inside. I tried to boot back into OS X by holding the option key, but my only option for booting is OS 9. I then tried to boot back into OS X by holding down the "x" key, but it still tries to boot into OS 9. Could someone please help?

Hi, Stacy -
Since the machine boots to the OS 9 Install CD, it is indeed OS 9 bootable, by definition.
Since the installer on the CD was able to 'see' the destination drive, then that drive does have OS 9 drivers on it.
Those two are the primary causes for a machine not being able to use OS 9 as a boot OS.
I assume you accepted the default install of OS 9 and did not customize it. If that is the case, then it should have installed all files needed by your machine in order to use it as a bootable OS.
About all that is left is make sure that the OS 9 System Folder has been blessed - registered as a bootable OS. To do that, boot to the OS 9 Install CD but do not run the installer. Instead, open the icon for the hard drive (if it is not already open), locate and open the System Folder (not the folder named just System - that's OSX). Drag the files named Finder and System (both are loose in the System Folder's window) out to the desktop. Close the Syatem Folder. Then drop those two files back into the closed System Folder.
Once that is done the System Folder should be displaying a miniture glyph of the Mac OS logo superimposed on the icon for that folder.
One other question, re the CD you used for the installation. Was it a Software Install CD specific to that machine (does it show eMac on the label)? Or was it a retail OS 9 Install CD (white label, gold 9)?
