Please help a LE About-To-Be-Newbie?

Hi there,
I've just ordered Logic Express, and it will be here, probably, by Monday. I currently use a Roland VS2000, and have found 12 tracks @ 24 bit a bit confining. My Indigo iMac recently died, and, as I couldn't bring myself to adapt to my wife's PC, I bought a new 2GHZ 17" Core 2 Duo, with 2 gigs RAM. I am loving this machine, but it then occurred to me that I could use it to expand, or even replace, my VS2000. I've done a little research, and am aware that I will need a good firewire audio interface (I am leaning toward the RME Fireface 400) and an external FW HDD. Always something more to buy....sigh....
A few weeks ago, I downloaded the Trial LE 7, and haven't really been able to do anything with it, except import other music files from my computer and play around with them a bit (I did enjoy reversing the envelope on The Beatles' 'And I Love Her'). I found getting LE to do what I wanted quite frustrating, for the most part, but I am willing to take the time to learn. So, this brings me to my questions:
1) I do not have an audio interface yet. Is it possible that, when Logic was setting up, that I didn't set something correctly? Because I assume that I could've input audio via the mic on the iMac, but I couldn't. I get the message that it is using the stock audio/MIDI set-up that comes with the iMac. Yet, no audio recorded. I know this question is a little confusing...
2) I recently bought a USB MIDI cable, and it works fine within Garageband, but not in Logic Express. Can anyone suggest a reason for this? Other than user ignorance, I mean....
3) When I tried to access Appleloops, I was told that LE Couldn't find any. They're there, I use them in Garageband. Is there any reason why LE can't find them?
4) Finally, it is going to be a little while before I can afford the RME Fireface, so I am wondering if I can just use the MIDI via the USB interface to slave to my VS, triggering sounds from my JV-1010 sound module. When I do get the Fireface, will it be easy enough to alter the settings for its optimal use?
I've been using all-in-one Roland boxes since '98, so I am pretty well completely lost when it comes to the ins and outs of computer-based recording. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

It took me a bit to figure out what to click on to
get at the audio instruments, and then, again, it
took me about another hour of puzzling and
hair-pulling to get the sampler-player working. It
would, indeed, be helpful, if there were Quickstart
pages with LE, and better ways of showing how to do
something. Obviously, I am not the first person to
make the mistake that the MIDI instruments are not
the same as the audio instruments, given Miehmann's
post, and the link that you cited.
nyways, the next step, I suppose, will be figuring a
way to get my JV-1010 sound module working within LE,
and then syncing LE to my VS.
So many of these issues would be solved if Apple would CHANGE THE DEFAULT SONG as it is confusing for almost every new user and external MIDI devices are not the norm any more.

As for the book, I really do hate reading .pdf files
off of a computer screen. Much prefer to curl up with
a book, or take it into the 'reading room' when
necessary.
The Sitter book comes with song files to mess with, which really helps.
I am sure that once I get my head around the concepts
and the environment, I'll love this program.

My iPAD 2 won't restore or update or turn on! Please help I'm about to cry

Good afternoon everyone :s!
I was recently gifted an iPAD 2 and there was an iOS 6.1 update so I went and tapped on it. Bt insead of telling me yada install noow or it's done, my iPAD displayed a screen with itunes logo and a usb connector.
SO I went ahead and connected the iPAD o the iNES n my laptop, the latest itunes version, only to notive it'll take like 24 hours to update. Tha and the fact that my iPAD would turn off then on every 10 minutes or so and so I had to click on ok every 10 minutes on iTunes
I didn't sleep the whole night just to do that and in the morning, after the download was done, the file "was being processed" and then pouf! the freaking iTUNES displayed some kind oof 3251 -I think - unknoown errror and wentt on launching the same download again!
Please help me! get me out of this freaking loop or just tell me what is going on?

Disable your firewall and antivirus software and try recovery mode in order to restore the iPad.

Recovery Mode Instructions
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
Use iTunes to restore iPad.

If the System Profiler application isn't in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder, the More Info button will be dimmed. Look for this application elsewhere on your hard disk; if it isn't on the hard disk, use Pacifist to extract it from your Mac OS X installation disks and then run the combo updater for your version of Mac OS X.

PLEASE HELP i am about to crush this dang thing! im about to CRY!! AGHH!

i SENT IN my first disfunctional ipod for service and got one back, and nothing has changed! so i would assume it was the computer that is the problem, but my sister uses the same computer as i do and hers works perfectly!!
i put the songs on my ipod, the computer recognizes it and they go on there fine, but i take it out when it says to and it plays NOTHING. while its plugged in, it blinks or has a solid orange light, then when i take it out it does NOTHING, it just lights up solid green. i have tried EVERYTHING!! seriously, restoring, restarting the computer, deleting and putting back all songs, PLEASE HELP I AM DESPERATE!

what i just spent 2 hours doing to fix the lil butthead:
my shuffle symptoms:
-endless orange flashing while in port
-no songs being played
-yes it had a green light for battery power
-shows that all songs are in shuffle in itunes
-i had a "internal manager error" when i tried to reset my shuffle in the ipod setup- so it would not let me re-register my ipod. grrr
what i did to cure it:
-go to your control panel:
1.) uninstall itunes, and aything related to itunes that you see
2.) AND uninstall REALPLAYER!!!!!!!!!!
*real player kept acting as my default ipod host when i would put my ipod in the port. THEN itunes would come up. ANNOYING AS ALL ****! (and i think a part of the problem, i uninstalled JUST itunes, and reinstalled it, and my ipod setup did not work- same "internal manager error"!) so, do as i say and get rid of that stupid realplayer.
3.)restart your computer
4.)install itunes
5.)restart your computer
6.)do the "ipod setup"
7.)restart your computer for good luck. . .
8.)plug in your lil shuffle, rename it, and DOWNLOAD a song that plays! weeeeeeeeeee

Please help I am about to break my 2 week old Ipod because it has frozen

My Ipod froze when I connected it to my computer and the computer isn't recognizing it. I tried holding the middle button to reset it, but that isn't working. PLEASE HELP. Do I need to send it away?

To reset it toggle the hold button a few times then, with it not in hold of course, hold both the centre and menu buttons down together for at least six seconds to reset it.

Please help, simple question about Smart Playlists and Live Updating

PLEASE for some reason I've never gotten an answer on this.
I have a Smart Playlist called "Recently Played" with Live Updating. No matter how I set the parameters, the most recently played *song will ALWAYS appear on the bottom of the list when using my iPhone on the go.* I bolded that because I want you to be aware I'm not talking about on iTunes - I'm aware you can change how the list is viewed on iTunes.
When using your iPod/iPhone on the fly and Live Updating is enabled, is there any way to make the most recently played song appear at the very top???

Haven't seen that problem before but try the following: in iTunes, right-click the playlist name and enable the option "Copy to Play Order." Then sync.
The normal use of "Copy to Play Order" when you have the playlist displayed in iTunes in some sort order, but you want it to display in the iPod in shuffled order (as it will actually play). Different problem than you are observing, but the same thing "might" help.... Let us know.

I buy recently a Lenovo ix4-300d, I have installed one hdd seagate 2To (ST2000VN000).
I saved many documents on it..
Today I want to install 2 others hdd WD 1To (WD10EZEX).
After reboot a message tells me I need to erase all data on the news disks before I can use it, so I confirm, all seems ok.. After that a message appear on the left "2 disks unused".
Now (step 3 page74 on the .pdf guide) I need to check the box "add drives to storage system" and click confirm to activate the news disks, so I do, but I have this message:
"Vous devez supprimer les données existantes pour pouvoir modifier la configuration du disque.
Cochez cette case pour continuer."
(in english "You must erase existing data for change the disk configuration" or something like that)
I don't want to loose all the data on my first hdd already in use.. ..and the 2 others news disks are empty.
So, there is my question:
if I check the box and click continue what "existing data" will be erase??
existing data on all hdd?? Or just on the new one??

Sorry that you experienced data loss, however it was preventable if a backup had been made as recommended.
From the screen shot you sent it looks like the drives were already added to the existing array after the first drive overwrite request. With the array being made up of mixed disk models and none of the disks showing any green stipes indicating overwrite selection, I can not say for certain what caused all the disks to be wiped. I suspect that is was taken as a RAID change and all disks were wiped from there.

Hi all. I have browsed through the forums to see if I could sort out my new 5th Generation ipod. Basically what happened was:
I installed the cd rom that came with the ipod. Told me I needed quicktime so I downloaded that from the apple site too. Then I discovered that there was a newer version of ipod software, so I installed that. However, my ipod isnt visible in itunes, my ipod isnt visible in my windows at all. when I go to run it ( i installed it.... took almose 4 hours - don't have broadband) the whole wizard goes on till the end, i then restart my computer, but still no ipod appears to be installed on my laptop.
Another thing, the ipod itself, when its connected via the usb to the laptop, a slashed circle and "do not disconnect" flashes on the screen. Ipod is fully charged. I have safely disconnected the ipod from the laptop, then the ipod will not turn on. When I try all of the 5 Rs ( and believe me, I have tried them all..... umpteen times) the ipod just turns on for about 10 seconds, firstly the apple logo comes up, then a folder with an exclamation mark with the www.apple.com support website comes up. then ipod makes a clicking/whirring sound and goes off. Cannot do any of the 5r's as ipod will not allow me to!! As I have mentioned, I have browsed this discussion site, I have gone to the different links suggested about laptops, drivers, usbs, ..... you name it, I've tried it.
I am using an Iqon laptop with intel pentiun "m", with windows xp home with service pack 2.
Can anyone out there suggest anything else to try?? One more thing, shop I got ipod said it could be the laptop, could be one of the many "dll" files installed. He said short of getting everything uninstalled (windows etc) and reinstalled and then reinstalling itunes, quicktime and ipod software..... aint anything else he could suggest.
I apologise for being so longwinded about this. Its just I have this ipod since xmas day and its really frustrating me. Other people I know have windows and ipods and theirs works, why doesnt' mine????#

Yvie, these which you may already have done except to return it may be your only choice. Keep trying the reset option and double check that you are doing it correctly.

Your laptop not picking up the fact that it is plugged in is a whole other issue. Can you verify that the port is functioning with another device. It also may not be providing enough power to the IPOD when plugged in. It could be a host of little issues. I understand you are frustrated, but we need to get the IPOD working first.
As a reminder when you do get everthing working, dismount the IPOD properly from your PC when in disk mode.

Please help..question about sending pdf file from my ipad to another

I have a pdf file in Kindle that shows up under documents. I am wanting to locate it and send it from my ipad to another..whether through email or even share through kindle. I contacted kindle and they said I have to contact apple with instructions to retreiving the pdf before I can send it. Anyone know how to do it. It shows up in docs on my kindle app but doesnt show up in itunes or on amazon. Help appreciated!!!!

I copied this from another discussion - that ironically enough - James and I both participated in. The OP never responded to what I suggested, but I think that this may work.
I think that the Kindle app uses file sharing so see if you can transfer the files to the computer via iTunes with file sharing.
iOS: About File Sharing
Then drag the pdf file from the file sharing window (or use the save to button) onto your desktop. Email it from there and you can even email it to yourself on the iPad and store it any other other PDF app that you may have.

I am a new user of the Java Web Start technique. When I tried to launch my application by it, I got the error of
javaw.exe -- Application error
"the instruction" at "0x5006bf974" referenced memory at "0x000000e7f". The memory could not be "read"".
Could anyone tell me what is the cause of this problem and how to fix it? Many thanks!

JRE 1.2.2 and 1.3.1_02 and 1.4.0_01 (setting default to any of these results in the same problem).
