Please help: about 15 kernel panics / day (Lion)
Hello,
I've vérified the hardware, the RAM is OK, I did use applejack, verified SMART, disk permissions and so on, softwares are up to date, but Lion stills crash with different kernel panics, under Safari, or/and Word, or/and Mail, or/and etc.
May someone help me ?
Thanx.

Please Help, I deleted an account that was the same name as the administrator but was not the administrator. Also a samsung galaxy s phone was charging through the usb port.
I closed out a program and got a message that the temp file could not be stored/saved.
Then a Kernel panic message occurred and restart was necessary.
The restart resulted in the screen with the apple logo and a continous swirl for 6+hrs,
Attempted Safe Mode start up, unsuccessful,
Single User Mode-sucess.
Ran $ fsck_hfs -rfd /dev/disk0s2 Ran several times repairs made with one which remained. something about a node.

Ran Repair Disk, result:

I am looking to solve without buying DiskWarrior unless only resort. So it looks like solved it for now I will update later. What I did was after starting from the install cd for the 10.6 system I ran from terminal ran:
diskutil disablejournaling /dev/disk0s2
diskutil disableownership /dev/disk0s2
diskutil repairPermissions /dev/disk0s2
then i closed terminal and then when to disk utility and chose to repair disk with results all was fine. Then ran repair permissions and got similar results from terminal function next I erased disk and then chose to restore from time machine and it is now restoring! yea! -
Please help interpreting kernel panic message
Hello.
Could anyone please help me to interpret the kernel panic message (below) I received today. I have had several such events recently, and I have already read and implemented the suggestions regarding resolving kernel panics listed on the X-Lab's X-FAQs website. I have run all the repair and diagnostic stuff that is usually recommended to other people posting questions about resolving kernel panics. I don't have anything plugged into my Mac except the keyboard and mouse, and I know that I could take my computer to a shop and have someone look it over.
My specific question is this: Can anyone interpret the actual content of this particular kernel panic message and give me any clue as to the likely source or cause of the problem, or what is happening?
I hope that no one is offended by my posting since I am not an expert who regularly uses this forum.
Thank you very much!

Was this a one-time problem?
I claim no particular expertise, but I don't see much in the panic.log that helps to isolate a specific underlying cause.
That is, except for Maxit's rationale. Because the backtrace indicates that the exception occurred upon loading the IOAudioFamily .kext (driver, or extension "family"), related hardware &/or driver compatibility would typically be worth exploring. Please check to be sure that you've disconnected all non-critical peripherals & disabled login items and any "system enhancers" while you're troubleshooting this problem.
The 0x300 DAR (data access register) trap is probably the most common type of exception that causes kernel panics. It simply indicates that the processor couldn't perform a data memory access. This could be due to a programming issue or a hardware problem (e.g., "bad" RAM, HD corruption).
If the problem recurs without any more specific indication from a panic.log or, e.g., console.log entr(ies), I suggest you diligently work through the course of action presented in Resolving kernel panics.
Sorry I can't offer anything more magically insightful.
Good luck!

1. Incorrect RAM (did you upgrade recently?)
2. Failed RAM, yes it does fail!
3. Unseated RAM, remove it and reseat firmly.
To test for RAM I'd recommend downloading Rember from:
http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/15837/rember
I would also recommend studying Kernel Panics, Tutorial: Avoiding and eliminating Kernel panics & About "You need to restart your computer" (kernel panic) messages.
Good luck locating it. -
Please Help! Kernel Panics Everywhere!
So for a while my iBook G4 has come up with kernel panics during the startup process. I have tried every 'simple' solution that I know of. It says there is no problem with the hardware when I test it. I have done a complete erase and install to no avail. Disk utility comes up with things that need to be repaired but doesn't seem to repair them, because they are always there when I look again. This computer is only a few months old and I'm living in another country and can't very easily take it to the store to be fixed. Please help!
Thanks for your help. Would it be helpful to see the panic logs? Here you go:

Please help - frustrating kernel panic in 10.4.5
Hi everyone,
I am helping a friend on his iMac Flat Panel. He is running 10.4.5, and his computer's RAM was upgraded at the Apple Store from 256 to 512 Megs when he bought it a few years back.
He just did an erase and install of Tiger, and has been having intermittent kernel panics for a week now. They don't seem to follow a pattern, except that they happen more often when he wakes his computer from sleep mode and also when he is in Dashboard.
I ran MEMTEST, the Apple Hardware Test, and Disk Utility (the latter two from their appropriate startup CDs), and no issues were raised by these programs.
What am I missing here? I am posting the last couple kernel panics from his panic log. Can anyone decypher this??? Any help with this would be most appreciated!!!

iMac Mac OS X (10.4.5) 512 Megs RAMHi David,
to answer your question, no there is no database you can access to help decipher the information contained in a panic log. That information is really intended for Unix experts and programmers, not us mere mortals.
However, both of the logs you posted clearly point to the video card. Both of the logs mention it in the backtrace. In my opinion, removing regular ram will have no affect on this issue. Removing all peripheral devices except your keyboard, mouse, and monitor is always a good troubleshooting step when trying to track down the cause of a panic.
There is some excellent advice for resolving kernel panics available here:
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
In my opinion though I believe this is a hardware issue with the video card and since it is not a user upgradable part in an iMac your friend probably will have to put it in the shop for repair. -
Please help diagnose kernel panics
I'm having intermittent kernel panics on an Intel iMac (10.4.8). When they happen, it is always after a hotsync to a Palm Treo 680. I have never installed the Palm software, only MissingSync from MarkSpace. The sync looks like it's succeeded. MissingSync says it was fine, and the Treo has gone back to its normal hotsync screen. But just as that happens the panic occurs (sometimes). My guess is that it's when the Treo disconnects from the USB port. It's connected directly to a port on the back of the iMac. MarkSpace support had nothing obvious to suggest, other than uninstall, reset PRAM, repair disk, reinstall blah, blah. Can't see how this would help.
Anyone know if the Treo needs a USB driver as such, that would presumably be supplied by Macos or MissingSync? The panic report follows. Any pointers gratefully accepted!

As for the Treo I have no specific information on any incompatibilities with OS X when used with the proper software. If you use Missing Sync from MarkSpace just be sure you are using the most current version and that you don't also have Palm Desktop software installed as well. There is nothing specific in the panic.log file that points to The Missing Sync software directly, only that the panic was generated in one or more of the USB extensions.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics for more information.
I use Missing Sync with a Palm Tungsten E and it works fine on all my machines.
Do you use any other USB devices and/or USB hubs?
There are many possible causes of kernel panics. Corrupted device drivers and hardware defects are common causes. As I suggested before you would be wise to follow the suggestions given you by MarkSpace support. -
Please help with kernel panics
Hello,
Multiple kernel panics in the last day or two. Some on startup. No pattern in re what apps were running at the time. I ran memtest 5 cycles. It looks okay. I ran the disk utilities. The drive checks out. SMART Drive status is okay. I reinstalled the OS. Then got a kernel panic when trying to download OS updates.
I had the machine apart recently. Installed new keyboard and bigger internal hard drive. The Machine seemed to work okay for a few days after I put it back together.
I suspect there's a difficult problem on the motherboard, but I'm no expert.
Here are two recent logs. I don't know how to interpret them. Any hints here?
Thanks a bunch.

Tim -
Please help with kernel panic...
I have a mid 2010 MBP running 10.7.4 and I've been getting random kernel panics this past week or so. It occurs randomly so I can't really pinpoint what's causing them. I also had issues with it coming back from sleep...I would just get a black screen and I'd have to hard reboot. I installed 8GB of Crucial RAM a couple of months ago which I replaced with the Apple RAM this morning, so far so good but I'm looking for some input if anyone has any. I'm thinking the RAM was the problem but I'm not certain.
Here's the latest log I have from this morning before I switched back to the Apple RAM....any help would be appreciated:

How to run hardware diagnostics for an Intel Mac
Boot from your original OS X Installer Disc One that came with your computer. After the chime press and hold down the "D" key until the diagnostic screen appears. Run the extended tests for a minimum of two or three hours. If any error messages appear note them down as you will need to report them to the service tech when you take the computer in for repair.
Some "common" error indicators:
SNS - sensor error
MEM - memory error
HDD - hard disk drive error
MOT - fan error
Of course you would need to reinstall the new RAM first. Sometimes the problem is just that the new RAM did not seat properly.

You may find the troubleshooting steps in the section "Troubleshooting a recurring kernel panic" toward the bottom of the article below helpful.
OS X: About kernel panics
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742
As pointed out in the article, please keep this in mind:
Diagnosing a recurring kernel panic can be difficult. If you would like to avoid this process, or do not know how to perform any of the following steps, consider bringing the Mac to a Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for assistance. Be sure to ask that, if the drive needs reformatting or replacing, they contact you about escalating your case to a special data recovery service. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).

Help! Kernel panics since 10.5.3
Hi all,
I have noticed a fair amount of posts on this forum about kernel panics since installing 10.5.3, and very few responses to those problems. I wonder what is going on with 10.5.3.
I installed it a couple of weeks ago and things were running okay, but now I keep getting kernel panics or a frozen computer and having to restart. I posted about it but got no responses. I noticed in the log that it mentioned Mouseworks, so I looked it up and discovered that some people have had problems with their kensington mouse mouseworks so I uninstalled the mouseworks application . Now I got another kernel panic and this time it is about Safari. So I don't think its about a particular application, but I don't know. I did permissions repair and it repaired two permissions I think -- or at least reported a problem with them but didn't say whether it repaired them. I did disk verify and it said everything was ok.
Here are my logs.
Can anyone help or give any suggestions what I should do?
thanks,
Katarina

Hi, ever since I installed leopard my computer keeps freezing. and it has now done it twice in the last day. I did a permissions repair and it is still doing it. My powerbook is old and was inherited and I am thinking of replacing it, but would like to know if it is something wrong with the computer or with conflicting programs, before bothering to replace it. Its a G4 1.67 GHz with 768 MB ram and 74.41 GB of which 30.31 are available.
I'm not very computer savvy and could really use some help figuring out what is going on. Here are the alerts that the computer posted when the system quit. I hope one of you more knowledgeable people can tell me whats going on.
thanks so much,
Katarina

Powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.5.3)I'd suggest uninstalling the Kensington Mouseworks software. Replace it with SteerMouse - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Most applications create preference files which are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can located them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.
There are also several shareware utilities that can uninstall applications:
AppZapper
CleanApp
Yank
SuperPop
Uninstaller
Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

Help diagnosing kernel panics? 10.6.8 related
Hello,
have been having this problem since i first tried to install 10.6 a few years ago.
thought it might be an issue relating to hp scanning driver .kext.
thought it might be RAM.
ram tests fine.
removed everything related to hp, which might relate to the hp scanning driver issue.
thought it might be a faulty SL install disk, but worked out ok on a macbook.
it seems only to happen with 10.6 and up, as i get the same problem when i installed 10.7 and 10.8 on other harddrives.
10.5.8 worked fine, with no problems or kernel panics in all the years it has been running.
if you have some insight that might help, i would appreciate it.
thank you.

Boot into safe mode (restart holding down SHIFT key). If no KP, then disable these, reenable one at time to determine which. If KP, then most likely hardware related. Run the Apple Hardware Test suite, extended tests at least twice, followed by Rember. See

How do you find out about Kernel panics?
Can anyone please explain to me how does one find out about Kernel panics, where to look etc? Thanks and regards
When the operating system kernel, one of the most basic, foundational levels of the Mac OS X operating sytem, detects some kind of exceptional condition or internal corruption or when the hardware sends it a signal of some grave error, which can be a bug in the system software or a driver or can be a hardware problem and the situation is not one that can be dealt with and continuing operation is impossible, then the kernel "panics." It does it's best to shut down gracefully, but it's an abortive termination of all system activity, after which a reboot usually takes place (though you're notified and must intervene before that happens).
It is a serious error and should not occur, but computer technology, both hardware and software, being what they are, there's no way to absolutely guarantee they won't happen. Unix-based systems such as Mac OS X have pretty good reliability, especially since Apple controls both the hardware and software. Still, 3rd-party software can be incorporated into a system, and Apple does not control or certify that code, so there's ample opportunity for poorly written add-ons (especially hardware drivers) to cause problems.
