Please help!! Acrobat PDF file Format is having difficulties??

So... I had been working on some thing the entire day, and then my PC crashed.. I did save my project while
I was working, so I was not that worried first. But then when I finely installed my virus scanner and restarted
my computer I tried to open the project I was working on and now is says this:
I tried to put it in an other new project and it does want to show what it looks like but it just refuses to open
normal or to let me edit it.
Why Illustrator, why are you doing this to me??
Please does anyone have an idea what I can do to get my lost artwork??

Any chance you have a backup from Dropbox or local backup software? If so, you could retrieve a version before the crash.
Is the file .ai or .pdf? Have you tried opening in Acrobat? If .ai, I would try duplicating file and changing extension to .pdf and see if Acrobat opens it.
Just a few thoughts. Maybe someone has a better idea.

  • Acrobat pdf file format is having difficulties. Object label badly formatted.

    I'm using Adobe Illustrator CS5 on a PC (Windows XP)
    When I try to open one particular file, I get the following message:
    "Acrobat pdf file format is having difficulties. Object label badly formatted."
    I've seen some discussions about this error msg previously, but only when using CS4, and everyone was referring to some type of "suitcase fusion", which I am not using.
    Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated

    I created the file in Illustrator CS5 and saved it as an .ai file.
    It does not open in Acrobat or Reader... not sure what other programs you think I should try?
    It's basically a bunch of lines and some text... the text is a Font that we use here at the MTO (FHWA)
    This is the first time I've ever had this problem.
    The weird thing is if I try to open the file in Illustrator by clicking "File", then "Open..." and then highlight the file in the "Open Dialog Window", I can see a preview of the file.  But then when I finally click "open" in the dialog window, I get that error message?

  • Acrobat PDF FIle Format is having difficulties...

    I've got an error that appears pretty reliably. I open a multi-page PDF file in Illustrator, choosing one page to edit. I save that page with a new name as a PDF file, and that works fine. Now, if I edit the file at all and save it again, I get "Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties. Bad parameter." And there's no way to save the file.
    If I close without saving and open the single-page PDF file again, it usually behaves well. But any time I get that message I lose all of the unsaved changes and have to repeat them.
    I'm using CS3, version 13.0.2. OS 10.4.10. Any assistance is appreciated...
    Rodney

    I've had the same problem in various versions of Illustrator on the Mac, up to and including CS3. Based on the previous comment, this appears to happen only if your Illustrator document starts life as a generic PDF file. So this is my solution (which worked today for me).
    Make sure all layers are visible and unlocked.
    Copy all your artwork to the clipboard (Select -> All then Edit -> Copy, or cmd-A then cmd-C)
    Create a new document with the same dimensions as your original one.
    Show the layers palette, and choose "Paste Remembers Layers" from the popup menu.
    Paste your artwork into the new document (Edit -> Paste or cmd-V)
    Save the new document.
    You should be able to edit and re-save the new document whenever needed after that, although you may find that the file is larger than the original one.

  • Acrobat PDF File format is having difficulties. Expected a dict object

    Hey guys, a matter of urgency
    I am using illustrator for the first time and finished my assignment for university.
    I saved the illustrator file onto my USB and went to school to find that it would not open..
    The error with the message shown on the title popped up. My friend told me it has something to do with me not placing the images in the right place, whatever that means.
    Please help ASAP this project is extremely important!!

    Did you save directly to the USB stick? Or save to harddisk, then copy it over?

  • Acrobat PDF  File Format is having Difficulties. Missing 'xref'.

    Everytime i go to save an illustrator file to our server i get this issue. I go to another server and it saves fine or to my desk top. I can then copy it to the appropriate server fine.
    IT guy has changed out the cables to the router from my machine and the router to the server. Changed ports and everything. He doesn't know what else to do. This has just started occurring in the past week.
    We can save EPS files fine, the only issue we have are with the AI. files.
    Please can anyone help me with this issue.
    thanks

    After 2 years, this is the first we have started having them. Makes sense, but its hard to do that when more than one person may work on the file during the day. but i guess we will have too. I did not think it was Illustrators fault, but was hoping for some kind of solution to fix it... It says there is nothing they can change on their end, its a plug and play harddrive. Atleast now I know wher ethe issue lies.
    Thanks

  • Illustrator Error - Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties. Expected a Dict Object

    Hi all,
    I am getting a strange error on Illustrator CS4 on my Mac.
    Randomly when I open an existing Illustrator file it corrupts with the above error :-(
    Once the file becomes corrupt we cannot open it and have to revert to a backup.
    I have narrowed it down to files with multiple artboards.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?

    Gerard, thief,
    It may (or may not) be possible to rescue contents if you use the http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/500/cpsid_50032.html on both the corrupt document and a healthy older version, and instead of step 3 as described compare the coding, especially at the start. You may be able to replace/copy dissimilar code from the healthy document to heal the corrupted one, or to replace/copy similar code from the corrupted one to a copy of the healthy one.

    Here's a detailed explanation:
    - Create a dropdown list with your 4 categories as the text values
    - Go to the binding tab and check the checkbox that says "Specify Item
    Values". You will see your four categories and they each will have been
    assigned a number (0, 1, 2, 3). Change these number values to be the
    URL to the PDF that you want each category to be associated with.
    - Add a 'change' event to your dropdown list. Select Javascript as the
    scripting language. Put the following code in your change event:
    var selectedText = xfa.event.newText;
    var redirectURL = this.boundItem(selectedText);
    xfa.host.gotoURL(redirectURL);
    Hope this helps!

  • PDF File format having difficulties?

    When I save in Illustrator CS3, I get the following message:
    Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties.  File format does not begin with '%PDF-'.
    and it won't save.  If I try a "save as," it saves, but then the file won't open later, because it says it isn't an illustrator file.  Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciate.  I don't want to lose any more work.
    Sean

    I am afraid so.
    You may try this:
    0. Copy the corrupted file under a new name as backup;
    1. Open Notepad (or something like it) and open the corrupted file with it;
    2. Open Notepad (or something like it) again and open a valid file with it;
    3. Copy the first part from the valid file down tothe line before %%Title, or down to the first full line in the corrupted file, but no further than to ;
    4. Paste that part into the hopefully no longer corrupted file, avoiding repetition;
    5. Try opening it.

    Hello all
    Trying to work on illustrator but pop up states i have a plug in missing called pdf file format cannot seem to sort problem, please help, working on mac

    Reinstall the program. This is caused by incompatible updates to Acrobat/ Adobe Reader that introduce new versions of the globally shared PDF libraries.

  • Can't open Acrobat pdf files in document library - SBS 2011

    I've uploaded some Acrobat PDF files to a document library in the companyweb (SharePoint 2010 Foundation website) on SBS 2011. But if I click on one of them in the standard view, acrobat opens and displays a message “The URL you have provided could not be
    reached. Please verify that the URL is correct and that the network location is reachable.” I'm using Acrobat Reader XI 11.0.2 and Internet Explorer 10.
    I have tried a few suggested solutions, eg to edit the docicon.xml file to include <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="AdobePDF.png" OpenControl="AdobeAcrobat.OpenDocuments"/>, check that the WebClient service is running, and
    Use Remote Interfaces permission is set on the SharePoint site. But no luck.
    I don't know if this is a problem with SBS 2011, or Acrobat, or Internet Explorer. Interestingly the pdf opens OK in Chrome. It looks like it is trying to edit the document instead of open it in the acrobat reader.
    Anyone know of a solution?

    I have found one possible solution. In my case the site was brought into Sharepoint Foundation 2010 as a migrated site from a previous SBS installation.
    The site was imported as http://servername and the IIS site had a host header with companyweb so that users could browse to it, and all references to the site were as http://companyweb
    All my attempts to open the PDFs were using the http://companyweb URL.
    I was researching the issue and had gone through everything, but one thing got me thinking when some sites suggested that I look at the permissive or strict browser file open settings. I looked at the web application and it was set to http://servername in
    the Central Administration site. I thought hmm let's try opening the Adobe PDF docs with that URL instead, and it worked!
    So I changed the web application URL to http://companyweb and tried again and hey presto it's now working.
    I really hope this helps someone, it took me a good couple of hours of my day researching to find the solution here.
    Some extra info: we are using Adobe Reader 11.0.6 with IE11. Testing with Firefox worked, but that opens the document by downloading it locally and then using Adobe Reader. fix The above actually resolves the problem, it's nothing to do with permissive or strict
    file open settings, I set the SP site back to strict and PDFs still open fine.

  • Making an Acrobat "PDF" file 'hotbuttons' appear '"HOT"

  • What (ISO?) document completely specifies the PDF file format?

    Is there ONE (ISO?) document that FULLY specifies the format of a PDF file format? Where to obtain it?
    I need it so I can write a program that will perform some processes on PDF files.
    Thanks

    For all practical purposes there's no file size limit in the ISO PDF specification, however the bit length of internal references means there will be problems at around 10GB. There's also a limit of 2 billion pages (the page count attribute is a 32-bit int).
    Distiller won't output more than 32767 pages at a time, but I know cases of archivists working with 100,000-page text files (created by appending thousands of documents, but not in Acrobat).
    Having said that, the Acrobat Family is 32-bit code, so can only allocate 2GB of process memory. This means you can't perform tasks where an asset larger than the allocated free space has to be retained in RAM, and that includes the save operation. The Acrobat X Family will open an existing file >2GB, and Acrobat X will assemble PDF Portfolios >2GB, but can't save them.
    Given that creating >2GB files is a very rare scenario, there are no announced plans to implement x64 flavors of Acrobat or Distiller.

  • Firefox freezes when opening an adobe acrobat (PDF) file from any website

    Firefox freezes when opening an adobe acrobat (PDF) file from any website. This only started happening after the latest update of Firefox was installed. Do you have a fix?

    Hi Susan,
    The Adobe plugin in Internet Explorer is a bit different from the one in Firefox, however they're all made by Adobe and they usually come with Adobe Reader.
    When you open a PDF file in Firefox, it "calls" Adobe Reader to help it read the file. In this case, the Adobe Reader takes over, and it is responsible for freezing your browser.
    I suggest you try the last 4 solutions presented on the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] (start with "Re-install the plugin" through "Re-install Adobe Reader").
    Good Luck :D
