Please help an old

First I would like to say hello to everyone here and I am a newbie,I can build my own comp. but cannot fix my mp3 xen Extra![/b] I bought this for my daughter and she didn't like the music I put on it for her so she decided to erase all of it by formatting the hard dri've and now there is no OS (operaiting system) on the player and I can't get any help from Creative. I sent for a replacement install disk because my daughter lost the orig. but it did nothing for the mp3. Can any one recommend a salution to my quandrie, I have tried everything I could short of sending it back to Creative.

I suggest you just send it to Creative to get it repaired if it still has the warranty. If it doesn't or you don't want to do that, you could try calling Creative and hopefully you will get someone who actually knows something about mp3 players to help you with your problem. Lastly, you could try getting someone who knows enough about computers to install the OS onto the mp3 player manually. That's all I can think of. Hope it helps.

By memory, do you mean space on your hard disk?

Please help! Old dates on new photos?

I recently backed up my iphotos to disk(CD) as a precaution prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard. It appeared everything went smoothly however I'm noticing when I go into my "2010" Library, where all my photos were previously automatically organized by month/date, that the last 5 months now show "2004" as I scroll through. Even when "Get Info" on a photo that I took in December of 2010, it shows June 04, 2004.
My iphoto Library doesn't even start until 2006, which is when I got this iMac. And I now have an "Early Photos" in my Library that I don't believe was there before.
I can now only view photos from November and December 2010 when I go to the "Last 2 Rolls" or when I view the entire Library that has all the years. But even when I view all years, they are completely disorganized...2008 photos are mixed in with 2006 photos, etc. I'm considering upgrading to iPhoto 11 through the iTunes App store but I want to get my current photos back to the organized fashion they were in prior to my back-up to disk, which seems to be when the problem occured. Please help. Thanks!

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I have an apple id and an icloud id. My Iphone was set up using the icloud id. That id was not set up by myself. I do not know what the password is for the icloud accoun. My apple id is working. I would like to sell my Iphone 5, but cannot because i cannot access my second ID. Can anyone help an old man??

Only the person who owns an account can remove a device from it. You have no way of contacting that person ? If you can't get the account's password reset via http://iforgot.apple.com then you can try contacting Support in your country and if you can prove that it's your account then they should be able to reset its password for you : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699

Licensed User Name - please help an olde man's failing memory

I'm sure this is a ridiculous question but I'd still like to find an answer. I have just noticed that neither Photoshop CS6 nor Lightroom 5 displays the licensed user name on either the opening splash screen or the Help/About screen. Unless I'm completely mis-remembering they (or perhaps previous versions) used to do so on one or the other screens. Can anyone please confirm one way or the other...i'ts hardly important but my confusion is irritating and I'd like to know if if they used to, if previous versions used to, of if they never did.

No the user name was not present in recent versions of Photoshop.
However in some earlier versions (I can't remember which) if you had a lot of patience and didn't close the window of Help/About the text starts to scroll and shows the list of all the people involved. At the end of that list (and it's a very long list) the last line was something like: "And a special thanks to .... (your name)".

Please help my old ipod mini!

my IPod mini is about 5 yrs old and still great up until now. I never did updates on my itunes and ipod but never had a problem.
I finally did upgrade to the newest version and some of my music will not show on my ipod. and of course... the songs that won't tansfer are my shared songs. i understand that they cannot be transfered using the new updated version.
so i unistalled my itunes and installed my original software from my original CD.
This is the problem.... my itunes is fine but now my ipod is not compatible and will not show in itunes.
i know i've got myself in a pickle but is there anyway to downgrade my software in my ipod mini to its original version to keep using it the way i have for years?

I am not familiar at all with Vista, therefore I would like to make the following suggestion
Find another computer uninstall the iTunes and iPod updater, connect your iPod with the computer and do the format (not Restore)
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”
Once it has completed, install the iTunes and iPod updater from the CD software came with your iPod.
Connect your iPod with the computer, hope the iPod updater will recognize it and click Restore

Please help an old fart

i have a samsung j600 mobile phone and on my computer i have adobe photoshop album starter edition 3.2 i try to download pictures of my grand son onto my phone but all it says is that there is no device and try again after checking the connection. i checked windows explorer and the mobile is registering as removable drive 'H' can anybody tell me what i am doing wrong please!

If your camera is registering with Windows as a hard drive, you can still get the photos off of it.
In Starter Edition, select the little camera icon, and instead of choosing "From Camera Mobile Phone or Card Reader" choose "From Files and Folders"
Then, use the windows dialog box that opens to navigate to your phones "Hard Drive"

I'm installing my original version of Aperture, but the installer does not ask me the serial. In fact, the copy is registered to the previous owner of the iMac. I tried to uninstall Aperture AppZap, but the problem remains.

Please help replacing old battery

I have a first generation MBP 15 inch like the first one that came out. So i want to get a new battery and here is my issue.
I found a site that sells the same battery A1175 for very cheap. Almost half the price from Apple store.
Now if i were to go and buy a battery at the apple store, my question is are the batteries different in anyway? battery life etc? or are they the same battery?

After reading the atrocious syntax on this site, I would be very wary of buying anything from them. It sounds like it could be a ripoff--the prices are too good. You might want to consider one of these instead:

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV.

I was able copy the hardrive of my old macbook from "My Passport" onto the desktop on an older iMac. but i dont know how to make my hardrive and user name be the main one since someone had used it in the past and had their info on the comp. please help!

I recently broke my 2008 macbook. i was able to use an external hardrive to back up my data onto My Passport. I was going to buy a new computer but a friend told me sher had an older version of the iMac. (not sure how old but it doesnt have a camera if that helps) i was able to hook it up and turn it on but i ran into a few problems. 1) the "authentic" user or whatever it says is someone who previously used the computer. i added me as a user but im not sure how to make me the main user. 2) after hooking up My Passport, i was able to drag my files and copy them to the desktop.(i think i did it correctly) now, i dont know how to make my hard drive and applications and iformation the "main " info. The current apps on the iMac are super old versions of iTunes and iPhoto and such. 3) while trying to open the apps from my macbook on the iMac, it said it didnt have the right software to open these apps.
I am so computer illiterate so someone please help!!! Also, i do not have internet in my new apartment yet so if there is a way to make this happen without using the internet that would be preferred. sorry for the horrible spelling and poorly written paragraph.

You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.
You need to get a new computer or a refurbished one.

you will be ok updating to the new software but there will be some trade off. i have 3 macbooks 2006 that are all running the latest versions.
some of the trade off are
1-2 less of battery life
slow wake ups from sleep
slower start up time about 30-40 seconds longer then what you have now
the operating system will use high % of your processer while idealing
these are not the things you want to hear about a new os compared to the old one but this is how it is even with a new macbook pro. but it's not the end of the world. just make sure you have at least more then 2GB of ram and have a good harddrive and you will be ok.

5 days old iPhone 5 iOS 6.1.4 battery life please help

My phone is 5 days old and i am so fed up with battery life. I disabled all data settings and location services and i have nothing in notification center for any push notification. But still i lost 40% of the battery in half a day with just 5 mins of voice call and 15 mins of texting. Phone was idle the rest of the time and when i used i had brightness at around just 10-15% this is my first iPhone and totally disappointed as i saw battery to last a full day of normal usage in the internet. I am totally fed up with apple. What should i do now ? I am a student and invested an year's savings of mine to get this phone. I am totally fed up. Someone please help me.

You have to tell us what your usage pattern is like, what your reception/signal strength is, and what network type you are using (E/3G/4G/LTE)
To note, the more the screen is on (in long intervals 2+ minutes) the shorter the battery life is.
Streaming music over 3G will last 6 hours if the screen stays off for most of that time.
Email, messages, web browsing will last most of the day.
Since you have GSM, your phone should last 10 hours with light usage.

Are you sure you have a 4g/3g iPod? If you don't have a camera, it's definitely not 4G. If it has no camera and is 8 or 16 Gb it is a 2G and can't go beyond 4.2.1.

My computer had a virus and needed to be wiped clean. all my itunes docs are stored on an external hard-drive so i downloaded a new itunes but it over-wrote my old one - how can i restore this without wiping my iphone? please help :(

My windows xp computer got a virus and needed to be wiped.
As i store all of my itunes and iphone stuff on an external hardrive i thought this would not cause a problem.
Got a bit confused when i tried to open itunes again from the back-up hardrive as it would not open.
Wrongly assumed that the best option would be to re-download itunes and move my old itunes info across - silly silly thing to do :/
The new download just over-wrote the old one and after trying a few of the suggestions on here to get my old library back - i still cant work out if its possible as it has been over-written.
I don't want to plug my iphone4 into my computer as i have heard that this can wipe your phone completely, so before i do anything, does anyone know what is the best thing to do from here? or how i could posibly recover my old library, playlists, apps, podcasts e.t.c
