PLEASE HELP: Artist Naming. Why is it sorting by LAST NAME?
Hey there everyone. Im sorry ahead of time. I'm a total newbie when it comes to itunes but hey I'm really trying to learn here. I have a 2nd Gen iPod Touch and when I click on artist it starts at A of course but what I dont' like is .... for example .... My library is like this...

Ok now my question... I HATE that like for example Paula Abdul is under "A"... I wish it would show up under "P" for Paula... NOT "A" for Adbul... Same thing with Christina Aguilera ... I would love for it to be under "C" for Christina and NOT "A" for Aguilera .... is there anyway that I can change this some how to where it will put everything in order by the FIRST letter of the artist name... and not by the lastname? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!
If you right click on the song and then Get Info. Under the Sorting Tab, is the Sort Artist field different from the Artist field?

I am unable to register my debit card after creating my apple ID. Whenever i click "continue" after filling all the debit card details, it shows that, "Your payement method has been declined". Please help me people, why is it so.? Also, i would ike to tell that my bank is, Union Bank Of India and it facilitates the auto conversion, rupee to dollar.. I think there is a different problem. The card must be issued in the same country as the store you are trying to use. If you're trying to sign up for the US Apple Store, it must be a US card with a US billing address. If you're trying to sign up in India, it must be an Indian card with an Indian billing address.
Apple will run a small charge, which will be credited back, to make sure the card is valid. If it is a debit card and you do not have enough in the account to cover the authorization, it will be declined.
It is possible the currency conversion you mentioned may be causing a problem. Contact the issuing bank if you are sure you have enough in the account and you are signing up for the correct store. -

I am sorry you are having issues with viewing your contacts. Where exactly are you trying to view your contacts? (ie Backup Assistant or Verizon Cloud). What happens when you try to sign in to view the contacts? Are you receiving any error messages?

I see posts from some people with Android 2.2 that their phone gives the option of sorting by last name or by first name. However, following the procedure they give, I don't see "display option". I have seen other people who say they have the same problem on other forums, but no solutions were offered other than that it might be motoblur. Is it motoblur? if so, can I remove motoblur so I can sort? Or is there another workaround? This continues to be a major annoyance for me when I want to make a call... Any help is appreciated.

A fix is to download an alternative dialer from the market. I use Dialer One (free) which allows you to sort by last name.
It also shows time/date of all calls, vs the strange format used for recent calls (e.g. "6 hours ago") by the default dialer.
You can keep both, switching back to the stock dialer if you need to. -
Since the update IOS 8.2, the artists are not any more sorted out by name in the application Music. Anybody has the same problem?

If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
Here are some general guidelines. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, email the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software. -
Contacts - Sorting by last name
I've read that Android 2.2 allows you to sort your contacts by last name, but I can't seem to find a way to do this on the Droid 2. It seems that the feature has been disabled either by Motorola or Verizon. Does anyone know of any plans to restore this functionality? Sorting by last name seems so natural -- it's a mystery why anyone would consciously remove it.

If you Get Info on a track and select the Sorting tab, you can enter lastname firstname (e.g. "Cash Johnny") into the Sort Artist field, and iTunes will from then on alphabetize that track by last name (with the C's, in my example). The display name will be unaffected.
Since iTunes doesn't know how to divide up artists into first and last names, there's no easy way to automate the process — you'll need to do it by hand. But once you've changed one track by an artist, you can control-click that song in your library and select "Apply sort fields..." from the contextual menu that pops up to copy the sorting information to all songs by that artist.
You can do this with many other fields, too — you can, for instance, delete initial quotation marks so those songs aren't erroneously sorted to the front of the alphabet. -
I use iCloud to store my contacts, but in Outlook it only sorts by first name. Although in iCloud it can be set to sort by last name, I cannot get it to do that in Outlook. I have thousands of contacts and cannot sort though all the first names to find one.How do I get it to sort by last name in Outlook?

In order to sort by last name, you need to change the artist tag to "Last Name, First Name", from "Bob Dylan" to "Dylan, Bob".
There are a two or three scripts at Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes that will reorder selected artist names. One thing you have to be careful of, however, is changing a group that was a multi-word name, otherwise you would change "Brobdingnagian Bards" to "Bards, Brobdingnagian". -
Experia Z3: Although on top level (ALL contacts) can be sorted by last name, it seems not to be possible to have the same sorting within groups, e.g. Family or Friends. Forgotten to program?
I checked here and it's like you say, in groups the contacts are displayed with first name first. I will forward it as feedback internally.

Curiously, the most recently inputted entries do sort properly, as do all company entries.
Does that mean "most recently inputted" AFTER you upgraded to Snow Leopard?
If that is true, it would mean that something about your existing records before the upgrade, for the records that are people contacts (with first and last names) instead of business contacts, do not agree with Snow Leopard and/or Snow Leopard's version of Address Book.
This may not be feasible, but if you exported the records with this problems and then imported them, maybe they will be re-inputted so that are properly sorted.
If you use Time Machine, maybe you can use the +flying through space+ interface to restore one of the records with this problem to see if the restore process makes the record sort properly.
