it was ablack one created for ipods
but when i plug it in it only charges my ipod and will not upload new songs onto it
i reeli need to update it and was wondering weither anyone can help

If you have access to another cable then try it and see what the results are.
Next if you truly believe the cable is bad you can take it back to store for
Exchange and/or let them test it with the same IPOD model you have.
In the future, it’s best to always check and to make sure the manufacture
states in writing that the Part is compatible with the Apple Model you’re using.

OK. You merely erased the content and settings. The IOS is still there.
If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures. From what you've already stated, my guess is that you'll end up with Recovery Mode described in the last paragraph.
First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again. Also, read this. -
I downloaded two videos from itunes into Media Go and I can't play or transfer them to my Walkman. Please help. I'm new at this and haven't a clue as to what I should do. Is Media Go the wrong place to put the videos? Thanks. Earl G.

I would be concerned too if my iPhone would not power on. I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this. I recommend following the steps below:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

PLEASE HELP!!! power button stuck and wont turn on!
So I've had my iphone4s for a little bit over a year and before the power button got stuck, I had problems with it turning off sometimes during school and it wouldn't turn back on without a hard reset. Then afterschool one day I could no longer hard reset it and it wouldn't turn on! Then after a few days of examining it i reazlized that the power button is jammed inside, but i could still wiggle it. I tried charging in against the wall, plugging it into the computer and nothing worked; itunes didn't even recognize it anymore! So I brought it to the Apple store to have them look at it, and they said that they couldn't turn it back on and its not possible to just replace the power button ALSO my warranty is up and therefore they can't replace it for me...and I'd have to pay the full price of a new iphone if I want to replace it...
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Have you found a solution besides replacing it? I really don't want to purchase another...please help! ):Try rebooting it by holding the Lock button and the Home button at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo shows up on the screen.

How did you install GarageBand on your Mac? Did it come preinstalled with the other iLife applications?
If your MacOS supports the AppStore, you should be able to redownload GarageBand from the AppStore, see this support Article: OS X: About OS X Recovery on how to download again:
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to complete installation of your applications.

In the attempt of updating my ipod touch, i am faced with the problem of not being able to be connected to the itunes in my computer (windows xp ) because my ipod touch got blocked up, leaving the icon of USB cable and itunes on my touch screen.
