  • Please help - strange beeping in hp pavilion dv6 6c10us laptop (windows 7 64-bit)

I posted about this problem several days ago, but no one responded. It hasn't gone away, and I'm beginning to get worried. My laptop is randomly emitting a high-pitched beep from the area of the fan. It sounds kind of like an alarm or a notification, and I'm pretty sure it's not coming from the speakers. It doesn't happen very often (sometimes it can go for days without making that noise), and I haven't yet noticed any actual malfunction in the computer in conjunction with it, but I still can't figure out why it's happening. There also doesn't seem to be any common thread between the times when it does happen, though I do notice it more when the computer is in the process of shutting down or hibernating. The only fix I've tried so far is updating the drivers; I can't think of anything else to do. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this beeping might mean?

    Hi,
Please use the following instructions to check and fix:

  • MacBook Pro is not turning on and keeps beeping. Please help!!

My MacBook Pro 13" is not turning on. It keeps beeping three times then pauses and repeats. It froze earlier today and I had to force a shutdown. I've done this before and it's worked fine. How do I get it to work again??? Please help.

Three beeps at startup indicates that your RAM hasn't passed the integrity check and one of the modules is faulty.

Hmm. The problem still may be the RAM - Apple buys the RAM it puts in its machines from third-party vendors (usually Hynix) so it could be a RAM problem.
There are a couple of things that you can do yourself before taking your machine into an Apple Store or an AASP... download and run an application named Rember that will run a RAM test for you - let it run for a couple of hours or even overnight. If it turns out that your RAM is faulty, Rember will let you know. If it is faulty, then you have a couple of options - replace the RAM yourself or (particularly if you're under warranty still) take the machine to an Apple Store or AASP and have them replace the RAM.
If Rember finds no fault with the RAM, then you'll need to take it into an Apple Store/AASP and get a free diagnosis on the machine. Three beeps do usually indicate faulty RAM, but if it tests good with Rember you likely have another problem - it could be something as simple as the RAM, somehow, not seated correctly or signs of another hardware problem.
Run Rember first... call back with results.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Loud beeping and no start up on MacBook. Please help

After taking apart my MacBook today to try figure out a screen connection problem, I go to turn my MacBook back on and all I get is a repetitive loud beep 5 seconds apart and no start up. I have tried rebooting ram and re-seating it but still nothing. Please help!

I do not get a specific number of beeps, it simply just keeps going one beep every 5 seconds....or does this still mean no ram installed???

  • 3 beeps after ram upgrade, computer will not turn on, please help!  I have tried everything.

I have a late 2011 Macbook Pro 15 inches, i recently upgraded the RAM from Crucial 8gb (4gbx2) to Crucial 16gb (8gbx2).  I have done thies before, was er careful, and had antistatic clip, clean work surface, etc. When trying to turn the computer on again, i hear 3 slow beeps, repeated three different times, and the computer does not turn on.  I have been looking around for solutions.
I have already swapped the memory modules, cleaned them, dusted the whole computer with air can, put the old ram in and still have the 3 beep problem.  It no longer works even with the old ram.  The computer was working perfectly fine before this.
Am i missin a step?  I saw in a video on youtube that i have to reset the RAM with Alt+P+R+Power button, but nothing happens.
Please help, i am self employed and my Mac Book Pro is the computer i work with!
I have Lion operating system, everything updated very recently.  Stock 512 gb hard drive.

Thanks for the quick reply Allan, i have reseated the ram 4 times, swapping top and bottom Ram modules, and pushing them in firmly and pressing down evenly with both hands.
I tried to put the old ram in as well in case the New RAM was bad, and that did not work anymore either.  I am from Mexico and live in Mexico City, and it is not easy to send the RAM back and get an exchange.  I will go to a MAC repair center on monday, but think i am missing some simple step somewhere. As i said this is my work computer and i really need it!
I have reread what i wrote before, to clarify my computer was working fine with the old 8 gigs of ram, i just wanted it to be faster, and bought 16 gb since they are now much cheaper than a few years ago.

  • Please help. 3 beeps and gray file on startup

2012 Macbook Pro 13 inch. A friend brought it to me because of a white screen and gray flashing folder on startup. I booted to disk uility and saw that it did not see a hard drive. Pulled hard drive attached it with a external reader to my macbook. was able to browse all the files, and back them up.  Formated hard drive with disk uility and put back in the computer. Disk uility did not see it after format. Put a different hard drive in computer, disk uility still doesnt see. it. Hardware test came back with no problems. I put a snow leopard cd in and booted, and i get a apple logo with 3 beeps. I have checked all connections adn removed battery. Please help i am out of ideas.

There a some fasteners that hold them in, if adjusted may restore functionality.

also would that cause the white screen with a gray file?
The HDD or the connection to the HDD is faulty.

    Hi Aparana.rahul,
The beeps during the startup of your MacBook Pro indicate that it may need to be serviced. See this article for further information -

I suspect you are correct.  I would suggest you bring it to a repair facility that may have better diagnostic tools, preferably an Apple store genius bar.

Then maybe it's time to buy a new Windows notebook.
The RAM has either gone bad or somehow become unseated. Also there is the chance that the RAM slots have failed.

  • Please help!!! Laptop won't come on...just beeps three times!

I took my laptop to the apple store to get the internal ac adapter fixed. When I went to pick it up the guy told me that it might not come on because the battery was drained. So I get home and immediately plug it to charge and try to turn it on, but the fan only came on for a brief moment and I heard the laptop beeps three times. The screen didn't come on or anything. The light on the part you push to open the screen blinks three times as well. I didn't think anything of it at first so I kept it charged for an hour but when I checked on it I noticed it was very hot. I immediately unplugged it and tried to turn it on. Nothing but the beeps and blinking lights. I have tried everything including resetting the pmu. Can someone please help me?

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Return your Powerbook to the Apple store. 3 beeps means there are no good banks of memory found. The blinking sleep LED blinking is part of the boot process, and it blinks the error code the beeps also indicated. FYI, the beeps are:
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable

  • PLEASE HELP ME ... I WANT TO RECOVER MY LAPTOP

HI ALL ... I HAVE TOSHIBA LAPTOP SATELLITE A300-1MO ... I WANT TO RECOVERY IT ... PLEASE HELP ME AND GIVE ME THE WAY HOW TO RECOVERY IT .. THANKS ALL

what is the problem that you are having? why do you need to recover your laptop? to recovery your system back to factory here are the options
    OPTION 1
turn your laptop off. then hold down zero key and push power button. do NOT let go of zero until it beeps. then it should ask you if you want to restore to factory out of box or format hdd. choose out of box. then it will give you a warning and just click yes. if this doesnt work you will need to order a set of recovery dvds unless you already have them.
    OPTION 2
if you already have the recovery media you can press F12 at the toshiba screen during start up. this will send you to bios set up. go over to the boot tab and then move cd/dvd drive to the top of the list, save and exit. insert the recovery media into the dvd drive and then restart the laptop.
both of these options will erase anything and EVERYTHING from you hdd. there will be no way of getting it back once it is gone.

  • I deleted my extensions manager and now my Mac won't start up. Please Help!!

I have an IMac, 24" model, running OS X. For the past several days, little warning windows have been popping up with this annoying beep, telling me that my computer was infected with various viruses. 4, to be exact. Also, while on the internet, random pop-up windows have appeared, so I thought I did have a virus. So, to correct the matter (or attempt to), I deleted my preferences folder from the system folder, as well as the extensions manager.
Now, the computer won't start up past the white logo screen with the turning gear thingy. I've tried resetting the PRAM, and starting in safe mode, and safe mode with the progress screen, and even something there while holding the option key (that one gave me an icon of my HD, but clicking on it took me back to an endless wait on the white screen). I've tried starting from the disk that came with the computer (I held the C key) but not only doesn't the computer start from the disk, it spits the disk out. I don't understand. The computer was fine until I deleted the ext. mgr and preferences, so it can't be that the computer went bad or something.
I don't know what else to do here. I do have an extended service warranty with Best Buy, but I wanted to see if there was some way to fix this before hauling this thing off to the store. Any suggestions? I'm desperate here, because anything and everything I've tried (based on all the try-this and try-thats I found on the internet), nothing has worked.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

Well done! You've succeeded in turning your Mac into a useless brick.
Deleting the System/Library/extensions folder and the associated manager removed most of the functionality from your OS.
And all to get rid of what sounds like the MacDefender trojan or a variant.
    ref; http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4650 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4651
You may have a slim chance of recovering if it will still boot in Target Disc Mode; in which case you can use another Mac to install the system remotely.
And I doubt your warranty with Best Buy is going to cover user "error."

  • IPod Nano troubles, please help

I'll try to explain this problem to the best of my ability, this has been an ongoing problem since my sister got her iPod Nano:
Me and my sister both got iPods for Christmas, her a Nano and myself a Video, now this isn't about me, my iPod works with my computer (thankfully), but my sister's Nano does not work with her computer. The only reason she has music is because she hooked it up to mine and got my music (a process so annoying to me it's hard to explain, and no, before it is suggested I am not going to add her music to my computer, add it to my library, hook up her Nano, give her her music, and then undo that whole process afterwards. Also I am going off to college next year and won't be able to do that all the time).
Anyway, so the problem appears to be that Windows does not recognize her Nano. I follow the instructions exactly like I did to use my iPod, I install the newest software (iPod updater and iTunes) and then put music into iTunes and then plug in her Nano, and I get a very strange noise. If you can imagine the two noises commonly heard, two beeps, one low and one high when you plug in a piece of hardware, and one high and one low when you unplug it, think of this noise as three, very quick low beeps. I do not know what this noise means, but it appears to mean "we know you plugged something in, but we don't know what the heck to do." iTunes at this point does not automatically update the iPod, and when I go into iPod Updater, the message is "plug in an iPod to begin" (although one is plugged in).
Originally I thought the problem was with her USB drives, although they are USB 2.0 as recommended. I called an Apple service representative (actually a few, only one giving me anything close to a reason for the problem), and upon checking the Device Manager the representative told me that "VIA" USB controllers are not compatible with the Nano. I did not find this likely, but I accepted it as the reason and she has since gone without an updated music selection in her Nano.
Recently my sister purchased a PCI USB card to put into her computer, which I installed (with difficulty, hard to find the drivers). We again tried to use the Nano with no luck. These new USB controllers are "NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controllers" also 2.0, according to the packaging.
I have since reinstalled iTunes and iPod Updater to their most recent versions and reinstalled the USB ports twice, with no better results. Currently I am at the Device Manager and it shows it "recognizes" the iPod, under "Other Devices" (which has a yellow question mark as the icon) and the iPod tab itself also has a yellow question mark as the icon, but this yellow question mark has a smaller yellow circle with an exclamation point ("!") inside it. I attempted to use the "Add New Hardware" wizard to "install" the iPod, but at the point where it looks for drivers it says it can't find any.
Please help, I would be greatly appreciative of any information concerning:
-My sister's USB ports and if they are the problem
-What the "three beeps" noise means when I plug in the Nano
-Where I can find "drivers" (if they exist) for the Nano so the computer recognizes it
-Any other ideas/suggestions that could be of help
Thanks in advance! I hope someone else out there can answer my problem!

    hiya!
-Where I can find "drivers" (if they exist) for the Nano so the computer recognizes it
hmmm. okay, perhaps we should try giving the techniques in this MarkJones post a try:
