Please help-Can I add music to iTunes from my iPod?

Can I add to my iTunes library from my iPod? How? If I sync my iPod what happens to the music that is on my iPod but not in my iTunes library? If the music dissappears then how can I ever put more music on the iPod without losing songs on it that are not in my iTunes?

Also, just updated the phone's software today, and iTunes' software is already up to date.

    Hi Gregg,
Have you tried resetting the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if your Music app is behaving normally.

  • Can one transfer music to itunes from ipod on new computer

How does one transfer music from ipod to itunes on new computer?

Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

Possibly. Media Go supports a variety of music formats, some of which can be imported in to iTunes and then synced on to an iPhone, however some of its formats cannot be imported in to iTunes.
See http://mediago.sony.com/enu/supported-file-formats/ for a list of formats supported by Media Go. iTunes for Windows supports MP3, AAC, WAV, and can import and convert WMA files as well. However iTunes does not support ATRAC, or FLAC.
Furthermore, if some of your music has been bought from an Internet music store it might be procted by DRM. If so it cannot be imported in to iTunes.
To do the importing you would either drag the music files in to iTunes, or tell iTunes to open them. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1347

  • Can't add music to iTunes 10.6.3

    Hi there,
I am running iTunes 10.6.3 on my OSX 10.5.8 . All of a sudden (well, maybe I just noticed it, but definitely within the last three weeks) - can't remember if I updated in that time period), I am unable to add music to iTunes. I can't drag and drop, can't do file --> add music to library, nothing. If I get music by converting youtube to mp3, THAT opens in iTunes, but I've just downloaded an entire album and don't really want to go converting fifteen+ songs one by one.
I don't have Cloud, don't have match.... can anyone help me?

Hold down the option key while starting iTunes, then select library.  Your library is stored in your Home > Music > iTunes > iTunes Library.itl file
iTunes can be picky about mp3 formatting and not all mp3s files are created the same.

  • Can only add music with Autofill from Library (not working with playlists)

I can only add music using the Autofill feature and it will only work when the main music library is selected. Autofill does not work when a playlist is selected and I can not add music directly by dragging songs from a library or playlist as described in the owner's manual.
Is there something wrong with iTunes, the iPod or is this user error?

    Hi Steve,
You're right it's the same for me.
I don't know as you mentionned whether it is an user error or not but I've got 2 iPods now, one is 60 Go color display (60Go) and the other received yesterday is 2G iPod Shuffle (Clipod). I can't drag songs from 60Go nor to iTunes Library neither to Clipod Music. The autofill function works only from iTunes Library where I've got 5 songs only (new MacPro), somebody knows how to export 60Go music to iTunes Library ?
    Thanks,

  • How can I transfer music and iTunes from my mac to my iPhone?

I have a macbook air and need to transfer some of my music and itunes from my mac to my newly updates iphone4. Previously I used to drag what I wanted from my itunes to my phone but now it doesn't work. Any ideas?

First step, of course, is to plug your iPhone into your Macbooks Air. Then, you need to set up syncing how you want it in iTunes (on the MBA). If you want to be able to drag and drop music, select "manually manage music" on the Summary pane in iTunes.

  • Help! Can't add music to Itunes?

I recently got a Macbook a couple days ago. I then had to use my Ipod to transfer all my songs to the itunes. It was fairly successful, all my songs from my PC/Ipod were then on my Mac. Today I looked at my trash and it had a blue itunes folder in it. I thought it was nothing (very stupidly, might I add) and just emptied the trash. Two things then occured. I couldn't continue the emptying because it wasn't finished closing, although it was closed. I also noticed every song I clicked go the "!" next to it. I decided to just delete all the songs off of Itunes so I wouldn't have to locate all of them. I then attempted to put the songs back on, and they will not transfer. They do absolutely nothing. The videos I have on there were located just fine and still work, but it is currently impossible to add songs and listen to them.
I then thought I should just download itunes again, and the folders that may have been lost will be replaced and I will just re-add the songs. This didn't work because as I installed, the installer asked me to 'close the following applications." the application was itunes, which was not open.
I'm clueless now. I've tried multiple times.
    Please, please, help!

No i don't have itunes match but the problem suddenly i cannot add new music, video, photos etc to itunes to sync i tried everything for example in the preferences i check and uncheck many things nothing happen then in the summary page i check manually... but itunes is not working like before for example when connect it it would sync automatic but not now and when i have sync it tells me remove music then sync.I think this will do for details if u need more then let me Jimzgoldfinch and thanks.

  • Can't add music in itunes

hi, I tried to add some musics in itunes but that doesn't work.
Itunes can't add some of my song please help
    Mark

    Oaky, let me rephrase it.
    W H A T H A P P E N S?
How do you try to add it?
Is it imported from a CD?
Is it downloaded from the iTunes music store?
Is it stored on your hard drive somewhere?
How do you try to add it to iTunes?
When you try to add it what happens?
    Do you receive an error?
When you go to File ->Add to Library, are you selecting a single song or a folder?
Does it actually let you select the songs?
Does iTunes quit when you do this?

  • Can't add music to iTunes Library

As the subject states, I am no longer able to add music to my iTunes Library. If I try to add a song, it tells me that I do not have permissions to write to my Music folder. I went to the Music folder's Get Info window, and under Ownership and Permissions, this is what it said:
    You can: Read & Write
    Details:
    Owner: admin (lock is locked)
    Access: Read & Write
    Group: admin
    Access: Read & Write
    Others: No Access
By the way, 'admin' is my short name. I have tried repairing my permissions with Disk Utility, but it did not correct anything in my Music folder. I have looked at permissions for other folders, and some say 'staff' as the group. Should I change the group to that? This is becoming very frustrating. If anyone knows what may be going on here, please _do not hesitate_ to tell me.

Have you tried authorizing your computer? In iTunes go up to Store, then Authorize Computer. Type in your user name and password and click "Authorize". You will then get a pop-up window stating if your authorization was successful or not. Hopefully this will give you access to do as you please with your Music Library.

  • Can't Add Music to iTunes 64-Bit (Windows 7)

I just bought a brand new Asus K52F laptop last week. It runs Windows 7 64-bit. I downloaded iTunes for Windows 64-bit version. It opens fine, I can access the iTunes store, and I can transfer my apps/purchased music from my iPod Touch. But when I try to add my MP3's into iTunes, the green status bar comes up showing that the songs are being added, but when it finishes, none of those MP3's show up. Also, since iTunes is my default audio player, I used to be able to click Play on a file, and iTunes would automatically open and start playing the song. When I do this now, iTunes still opens automatically, but doesn't play anything. Help!
Edit: I also have CD's ripped onto the computer that won't add to iTunes. I have tried adding and playing music through another media player, and the files work fine.

Same for me.  I want to rip from CDs that I've bought and put them onto my iPod.  I don't want to have to pay twice!!
I have two computers and apparently now my iPhone isn't linked to either (i assume because I've added music previously from both so what's on there doesn't match either) and i don't want to have to spend hours uploading CDs again onto one computer and sync my phone to just one.
The drag and drop function was so good and I'm at a loss as to what to do now.
Can't we just have it back?!

  • I can't add music to iTunes with latest software and updates.

I just updated to Mavericks and I have version 11.1.3 (8) of iTunes.  I still had music in a folder that was not in the itunes media folder and now I can't add this music to iTunes or even play the music.  Is there anything I can do to fix this so I can add the music to iTunes?

Just try to downgrade to older ITunes version, there's serioud problem with lastest ITunes upgrade.
Time machine can fix this problem is ur latest backup was a few months ago and contains an older ITunes version.
Version 11.3 doesnt support iPod classic & 3th gen Ipod & Iphone anymore.
Its a matter of Apple politics.

  • Can't add music to iTunes 11.0.2

Hey guys, I am using iTunes 11.0.2 on Windows 7 and I just recently purchased a new nano. When I went to go add some more music onto it tonight to my suprise nothing I selected would upload my iTunes library at all. I have tried restarting my computer, logging in and out of iTunes, converting the songs to AAC, turning off cloud and turning off match. Theorectically I could probably buy the songs but after this I don't want to give them the satisfaction and my money. Nothing has worked so far and I'm getting very irritated (what is the point of having an iPod if I can't add anything to it?) and if anyone has any suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

I have had an iTunes account for years now but yesterday I tried to sign in and got the following message...
We could not complete your iTunes Store Request. An unknown error occured (-9808).
There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later.
And it has said this ever since - every time I try to sign in. So I cannot make purchases, get album artwork etc. Reeeally frustrating.
Has this happened to anyone else?

You don't have the iPad connected to the computer with the cable while you are trying to download apps on the iPad do you?
I'm running out of ideas here. Try this, reboot your iPad and then try again. If you are connected to the computer, disconnect the iPad first.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
