Please Help - Error message when trying to open itunes

Hi
Can someone help pls? I was in the middle of upgrading my version of itunes and my computer crashed. Now when I try to open itunes I get an error message as follows: 'iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience'.
I don't know what to do! I am worried I have lost all of my music!?

hiya!
'Quick time failed to initialize. Error # - 2095. Please make sure QuickTime is properly installed on this computer'.
okay, let's try a careful standalone QT reinstall:
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)
love, b

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7,now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP,head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (If you've got XP, although the procedure is for Vista and 7, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)

  • Why do I get an error message when trying to open Itunes??????

I have installed I tunes on to my computer about ten separate times now and every time I try to open it I get a message that says.
" The folder "iTunes" could not be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the "My Music" folder."
    Can anyone help me out????

" The folder "iTunes" could not be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the "My Music" folder."
the best place to start with that one is with the following document:
iTunes for Windows: "Disk is locked" or "iTunes folder cannot be found" when installing or opening iTunes
but if you run into the complication where My Music doesn't appear as an option in TweakUI, perhaps try the alternate procedure from the following Nigel Carpenter post:

  • Error message when trying to open iTunes.exe

I love itunes and everything, and its been working really great until recently (about 2 days ago) in which my iTunes stopped working. I get a message which says:
"The iTunes application could not be opened. The file or directory is corrupt and unreadable."
I went to the support section for iTunes on here on how to check these files and things and found that one file causes the problem, in which the support told me to delete it and try running it. Well I did that and the License Agreement pops up and I click agree, then the error message pops up and the file that I deleted gets redownloaded into the folder.
I have also tried reinstalling it and that has not done anything to help either. Please Help!

Fix digital signing of Windows drivers
In some cases an issue with the digital signing of certain Windows XP drivers can prevent iTunes from launching. Use the following steps to correct such issues:
    1. Highlight all of the following 4 lines of text that begin with regsvr32 and then choose Copy from the Edit menu of your web browser:
    regsvr32 /s wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 /s softpub.dll
    regsvr32 /s mssip32.dll
    regsvr32 /s initpki.dll
    2. Open the Notepad program by navigating to:
Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad
    3. In Notepad, choose Paste from the Edit menu. Note: make sure that the text that appears in Notepad is the same as what is shown above.
    4. From the File menu, choose Save As.
    5. In the File name: field type iTunes.bat and save the file to the Desktop.
    6. Close Notepad and locate the iTunes.bat file. It should appear on the Desktop.
    7. Double-click the file and you will see a black window appear on the screen for about a minute. Wait until the window automatically disappears and proceed to the next step.
    8. The iTunes.bat file can be deleted at this time.
    9. Try opening iTunes again.

  • Error message when trying to open iTunes files.

I just began having the problem of an error message appearing...
... if I double-click on an iTunes audio file mp3, m4a, etc. or even drag the file directly on to the iTunes application icon.
I did a rebuild of LaunchServices and rebooted but the message still will appear unless the file is opened from an iTunes playlist.
Yet the file plays in iTunes... but the error message is still there and has to be dismissed.
Whereas if I open the same file(s) via the playlist... I get no error message and the file(s) play fine.
Also if I drag the files on to QuickTime 10.0 they play fine without displaying an error message.
Though the error message indicates it's a link problem... from the above... I don't see how it can possibly be since even dragging an audio file directly on to the iTunes application icon still results in the error message appearing.
I only discovered this today when downloading Piezo and I attempted to open the m4a files it saved. So I then tried to open other iTunes files in Finder windows rather than the iTunes playlist window and had the error message appear again.
I don't want to have to add every audio file to an iTunes playlist in order to open it without the error message so can someone please suggest a fix?
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Ron
    27" iMac, OSX 10.6.7, iTunes 10.5.2

    Well I solved my problem.
What still doesn't make sense though is that dragging iTune audio files directly on to the iTunes application icon gave me the error message... which is why I originally discounted it as being a potential link problem. If I had been able to get files to open normally (i.e. without an error message) I would have known it was a simple link problem. Strange.
Anyway... relinking my folder of audio files did the trick.
If you don't already know how here are the steps...
iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > click on the "Change" button and browse to the folder that contains all of your iTunes audio files... that's it.

  • Error Message when trying to open iTunes

iPod Nano Gen 2, 4 GB:
After 2 weeks of searching apple.com and other forums for why won't itunes open due that error message that says we're sorry but we've encountered an error and itunes needs to close- sorry for the inconvenience (or similiar to that)..... i could not get an answer that helped me and i think i looked everywhere!
so i bought a windows compatible mp3 player (Creative Zen Nano) BUT it wouldn't work either (got the same error message but for a diff program for that player)..... so realized it was my probably my OS doing wrong.
since i am not computer smart - i got someone to 'reformat' my PC ..... he agreed that my OS was the problem and this was the best solution to my issue for getting ipod (or Creative mp3) to work.
I had to save everything to disc that i would need after - as re-formatting restores your computer to the day you bought it..... so plan ahead.
G-Luck to all! The tech details are lost on me but it worked!

I'd recommend taking a look over the topics from the last week or so, as there are numerous threads that cover this topic. BUT, I will quickly say that I have tried everthing that has been suggested, and still have the same exact problem.
    Good luck!
    Jeff.

  • Error message when trying to open iTunes Store

Is there a problem with the Aussie store? Every time I try to access the store homepage, I get this error message:
We could not complete your iTunes Store request.
The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.
I've been getting this message for 3 days now... If it's not a problem with the Store, then how can I solve the problem with my computer/internet service? iTunes Store is the only thing it does this with.

Today is Jan 15th and I too have had this problem for several days. I can get to the store by going to google finding itunes and going in that way but everytime I try within the store I get error code 499. I have run all the dianogistics and have checked to verify I have the latest version and am okay there - any other thoughts??

    Hi Ian.
Thank you for answering. But I find no such file in Preferences. I think Lightroom freezes before making the preference file. Other solutions?
    Best wishes,
