Please help - Faulty openreach modem but BT India ...

Hi,
After having recently been upgraded to Infinity 2, my connection went intermittent and then off completely last week. I called BT India who said the fault was not at my end and that I should give it 24-48 hours for the problem to be resolved. After a couple of days, still no connection.
I am aware that early openreach modems have a reliability issue as this modem is my second (the original died after a couple of months and was replaced by an engineer who had done four that morning). I got a letter about a swap out last November but never heard anything more after that, so the modem I am using is not a new one. The modem is wall mounted under my desk. So, after 48 hours of no connection, last week I placed a fan under the desk next to the modem to blow cool air at it. Within a minute or two I had a connection again. Switch off the fan, give it a few minutes and the connection is dropped again.
I then rang BT India again (got a woman called Romy) and tried to explain to her that the problem was my modem. She just said it was "very strange" and had no knowledge of the reliability issues of these early modems. She said she would have a replacement sent to me and I got her to confirm that it was an "openreach modem" that she was ordering.
I've just been away in Belgium for 4 days and returned today (Monday) to find a missed delivery card (which looks like it was from earlier this morning) and a letter from BT. The letter says we're sorry that your "BT home hub 3.0 black" is not working and that I'll get my replacement soon! Arrrrrgghhh! I don't even use the hub 3 I've got as I have a DLink DIR-825 router of my own!
Do BT India actually know what an openreach modem for BT infinity is? It appears not from my experience.
So, if somebody on here from BT UK could kindly assist in getting me a new modem either by post or sending an engineer round to do a swap out (and advising me of what to do with the home hub 3 I'm about to receive) then I would be extremely grateful.

Update.
BT India have now rung me back, different member of their call team, wanting to know if my system was working.
After explaining again to him, he straight away said "I'll send an engineer out tomorrow, morning or afternoon?"
Wish they had taken that option when I called last week.
I'll ping the hub back in the returns bag when it arrives (with a note attached saying it's not a dud), then hopefully I won't get charged for that.

Hi. I have a U2 ipod photo. Recently have had alot of problems with songs dissapearing and i had to reset IPOD everytime. I bought the my ipod in the US 2 years ago with the "Complete U2 set" installed on the ipod. All the songs that came with the special edition ipod.

Have been trying to contact apple, but i cannot find an address to email to ask for help. If i start my itunes and insert the backup disc it puts on the music in my library, but i cannot move it or change it.

You are out of luck for non-Tunes purchases. The iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

PLEASE HELP! Shows Update, but won't do it

I am trying to update my iPod Touch to the 2.0 version. It says, "A newer version of iPod software is available (version 2.0). To update your iPod with the latest software, click Update."
I Click Update and this pops up: "A new iPod software version (2.0)is available for the iPod. Would you like more information from the iTunes store now?"
And I click learn more. It goes to a white screen with the word "iPod" on it for about 5 seconds and then back to the iPod home screen.
PLEASE HELP!

The repeat setting can be found from the Nano's Now Playing screen. While playing a track, swipe to the left to bring up additional controls including the repeat and shuffle settings. See page 21 of your iPod's User Guide for more assistance on the repeat setting.

If it's a 7G Nano, you should only need to tap the Now Playing screen to bring up these additional controls.

Please help iPOD has songs, but iTunes has none...I'm very stupid, HELP!!!

When I say I am very stupid, I'm serious. I thought I was get more space by deleting the itunes folder under my applications. I thought it wouldn't affect iTunes, cuz when I was delting it, songs were still playing. After I deleted, exclamation points started showing up...so I deleted all of the music in iTunes also. I still have all the songs in my iPOD, but none in my iTUNES. I tried using Senuti but says this... There was an error refreshing the iPod "(null)". The error could be due to the fact that the iPod is being used by Senuti. Please try again in a few seconds. If the problem persists, please report it. Yea, so iPOD rip doesn't work either as after I put my mouse over the songs, they dissapeared. I even re-downloaded iTunes, that didn't do anything...I am really stupid. Please can anyone help me? Again, I have all songs on my iPOD, but none on my iTunes...it was there before, but deleted the iTunes folder to save more space.

PLease help t420 recognizes monitors but sends no picture

Using a displayport to hdmi cable and a 7ft hdmi cable, my t420 will connect to a tv, complte with identifying the monitor and it's display properites, but the tv still gives me a no picture message, occasionally flashing up "retriveing data" after which it goes back to the "No Signal" message, any help would be appreciated.

Fast Solution: Connect over VGA and use an audio out cable.

Please help, got so far but won't work

I went thru a tutorial from 3school about adding a button to a flash web site and linking it to our facebook page. I got almost all the way thru it step by step - I got the button imported to the library, resized and then inserted it onto the front page of our web site. After following all directions even running the mouse over the button it turns to a thumb to click on BUT it wont go to the web page link. I get to the point where the tutorial says to rt click on the image and choose actions. Everything still fine - then it says click on the plus sign > then choose basic actions > and get URL. This is where I think the problem starts - I have nothing that says basic actions - I have to go to global functions > browser/networks > then get URL. I insert my URL and click button assignment then ok. Save and publish. Hers where the problem starts when I publish it reads an error code and description : Scene = main, layer>div>, frame = 1, line 1 and in description it says : or expected. It wont connect to the web site and I am sure it is the correct URL because I tried it in windows and it took me to the facebook page. I am using Flash CS 5 and shouldn't matter but windows 7. Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions. I got so far and assumed I had it but cant connect to link. New to the site so be gentle with me, ha

Please Help - Downloaded an album but missing songs!

Hi Guys,
I am relatively new to iTunes and up until now i havent had a problem. This evening i downloaded a couple of albums but i appear to be missing a couple of songs off each.
I have tried going to "store", "check for available downloads" but it says that i have downloaded everything. I try and download the missing songs but it says that i already have them and i should try what i have said i tried above.
I have been trying to contact Apple for the past hour and couldnt even work out how to contact them so i thought i would try here.
Any help is greatfully received.

That definitely sounds frustrating. If the songs are not playing fully in iTunes, they may have not downloaded completely. See the following article:

Occasionally, if a song purchased from the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC was not downloaded completely, the song may not play back fully. The song may abruptly stop during playback, and iTunes may start playing the next song in your library or playlist.

If iTunes in the Cloud is available in your country, try the following steps to resolve the issue:
1. Delete the purchased song that is exhibiting the problem from your iTunes library.
2. Click on the Purchased link in the iTunes Store to view your previously purchased music.
3. Download your previously purchased song from this list.
Note: iTunes in the Cloud, which allows you to download previously purchased songs from the iTunes Store, is not available in every country. Learn if iTunes in the Cloud is offered in your country

Please help with ACL "found but not expected," permissions, (and yes I've read /kb/TS1448)

Hi, I am getting this report from Disk Utility when I repair permissions.
They keep coming up even if I run repair permissions multiple times.
Repairing permissions for “SSD ML Clone 928”
ACL found but not expected on “private/var/root/Library”

ACL found but not expected on “private/var/root/Library/Preferences”
Repaired “private/var/root/Library/Preferences”
Permissions repair complete
And, yes I have read Apples Support Page,
"Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore,"

And, these particular ACL's are not listed on that page, as being ones that can be safely ignored.
Can anyone tell me for certain if this is anything I should be worried about, (or not), and if it's a problem, what I can do about it?

OK, I resorted to running ACLr8 1.3
I had found a post about running some terminal commands first, and then restarting in recovery mode, and repairing acl's. It was bit complex.
This app, ACLr8, runs it all in terminal, and without a reboot.
Disk Utility immediately gave a clean report!
ACLr8, had been updated for Lion, but hadn't been for ML.
So although I had some trepidation about running it, my understanding is ML is more of an upgraded Lion than a new OS, so I felt safe taking the risk.
And it paid off!
I suppose it didn't actually fix anything, but hey, out of sight, out of mind!
And therefore, peace of mind.

Sim deactivated, but not unlocked :( Contract is long over though.. please help!!

My verizon contract ended in March 2014, and after paying all my dues, I deactivated my sim from India..
I tried to put a new sim here in India, but it says my sim is not unlocked yet!! CAn you please help!!

Local Carrier in India told me to unlock it from verizon first and then go to them.. Its also illegal for them to unlock the phone which is locked by other carriers!!
I am so disappointed with Verizon that even after paying my bills correctly.. (my number is 3392033441, pls chk my account details if interested) The customer rep that I spoke to for deactivation, just de-activated my phone, without unlocking... SO HERE IT IS.
I ALREADY READ MANY STEPS, MANY TIPS ON HOW TO FIX MY PROBLEM IN MY WINDOWS. BUT I REALLY CAN'T FIX IT. I'm not professional in terms of Computer System. But I really want to upgrade my Operating System to Windows 8.1.
I really can't do it.
The window store says that I need to upgrade the pending updates for my applications but when I click install all.
It's just pending. There's nothing happening. There's nothing installed.
So I go to control panel then search the windows update.
There I click the Install Updates. I waited for 4 hours. But there's really nothing happening so I cancelled it.
Then here is what happened after that.
IT SAYS THAT code:80070003 windows update run into a problem then I clicked the "Get help with this error"
Then I run the troubleshooting
And then after that.
the troubleshooting has completed this is what it said.

Problems Installing recent updates
So that's is.
I don't know what to do.

Thanks, but, using the "free" version of Reader, there is no opportunity to open nor import the xml data - the menu options do not exist - there is no import listed.
If we try to open the xml file directly, then we get an error - something to the effect of "unsupported file type, or the file is corrupted".
I just noticed in my Pro version that there is the command File ->Form Data ->Import Data to Form... command. Is this what you are referring to?
What do you recommend? Perhaps the easiest thing to do would be to purchase a few copies of Acrobat Pro for the reservations people to use? I was hoping that the free version of reader would do it, but perhaps not?

Not only this but I can't drag from Itunes and place anywhere on my desktop or onto an external drive. Apple, why are you screwing around with basic functions!? I'm a dj and I need to be able to manage my music files without you ruining my life! FIX THIS!

Need Help/Suggestion from Mobile Gurus right here
I have 1 Year Old N73 ME and I mainly use it for Calling and Texting. Very Occasionally I use it for Music/Gaming and Browsing the Web.
The phone is completely in excellent condition
The problem is that: While charging ONLY the Battery gets too much HOT and it never shows Battery is Full (Charged it for Max 1 Hour 45 Minutes)
This problem suddenly appeared, so I formatted the Memory Card as well as Hard Format/Reset the Phone, but still the Battery is heating too much
After disconnecting the Phone from Charger, the Battery is FULL and I can use it without any problem and as usual. The Talktime right now is around 2.5 Hours and Standby time is around 2-3 Days
Please tell me what to do

Openreach modem failed

OK, so I'm starting this topic to track how quickly my issue can be resolved. I have infinity 2 and have had a steady 70/20 since install 2 years ago. On Sunday 31/8/2014, the internet died. All lights on the openreach modem were out and the middle light of the hub3 was out too. Checked the openreach modem power supply with a multimeter and all fine. Held down reset button as per web instructions - nothing. Borrowed a neighbours openreach modem and boom - all working again! So, diagnosis is it's my openreach modem.
1st call to BT on 1/9/2014 - yes, we agree it's your openreach modem but need to escalate to level two support to confirm (??). They are due to call me back at 7.30-9.30pm on 2/9/2014.
At this stage; I would appreciate it if an openreach engineer could pop in to swap my modem (2 minute job) that's all I need. Let's see what happens! Any help to get this done would be most appreciated!

Your Google search did not represent the problem with the modem per se. The original modem supplied with Infinity did suffer from an overheating problem unless it was wall - mounted as what the OEM envisaged. Openreach then went out of their way to replace all of them with a slightly different build which solved the problem and then had a second supplier providing another make of modem.
Your Google search brouht up the original problem.
That does not mitigate what I said before. You should not have been referred to 2nd line and your problem should have been solved by 1st line.
Have you called back yet? Don't expect a call from them...It won't happen!

Swap out Home Hub 5 for Openreach Modem at install...

Hi,
I'm scheduled to get Infinity installed to a new line in January and I'm not keen on using the supplied HH5 as I want to use my Time Capsule to control my network. Have there been any cases whereby the Engineer might be able to supply an Openreach modem on installation and not use the HH5? Or failing this I could do it myself after installation if I get a VDSL modem?

The Openreach engineer might install an Openreach modem but there is no guarantee because you have the HH5 which as you know has the modem integrated. You would need to ask and if he says no you'll have to accept that.
As far as I am aware there is nothing to stop you removing the HH5 and using your own modem. The only problem would be if you had any problems, BT would not offer any help or support, such as it is, because you are using non BT equipment.
