Please Help, GoDaddy & iWeb

I made my iweb page,
I registered a domain name with goddaddy.com
I think I correctly pointed it a web.mac.com
Do I need to enter the custom nameservers(DNS) or does it happen on its own??

I just did the same thing (purchased domain from godaddy). I just pointed the domain at my mac site and it works just fine. It happened almost instantly and works fine. Are you sure you pointed it at the right site? For example, the domain I purchased is my name, www.stevenmichaelmoore.com I have made a site and it is located at http://web.mac.com/stevem902/Argentina/Welcome.html I posted http://web.mac.com/stevem902/Argentina everything in that address up until the "welcome.html" because I want people to be able to browse off of that page and look at the whole site. It may also be helpful to note that I have more than one website created in iWeb. That is why I did not simply stop at the Stevem902. Hope this helps.

Okay so I have purchased the Hostexcellence basic plan, my domainname and webhosting, and $6 extra for personal information privacy, which came to about $64. At first they kept saying the domainname was wrong or something, until I finally wrote it in in all lowercase lettering, which solved the issue. They said they would connect within 12 hours in their confirmation email... The webpage message said:

  • Please help! iweb and 123-reg.co.uk

    Hi,
I have read the various postings and still have no idea what I am doing.
I have gone to my my DNS settings and what I have is:
    @ A 194.154.164.82
www CNAME web.mac.com. (I can't seem to lose the dot on the end)
    www CNAME 194.154.164.82
    mx0.123-reg.co.uk. Priority 10
    mx1.123-reg.co.uk Priority 20
I have turned web forwarding off but this hust sends my domain to a holding page care of 123-reg.co.uk Should I turn web forwarding on - if so what URL do I ask it to forward to?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Kind regards
    Matthewmacduff

    Hi there,
I hope you've sorted your problem out. I'm also with 123.reg and had similar problems which have mostly been resolved. If your still struggling. Log in to 123reg.co.uk and go to your control panel. Click on web fowarding and select either framed or non framed forwarding. Add your site to the add url eg http://web.mac.com/yourname. Add title to be displayed in browser (presumably you've registered/bought a name with 123reg)...thats it
My problem with 123reg's system is that it, to me, isn't particularly user friendly. My web forwarding works great but the browser bar only ever shows smandrews.com and not smandrews.com/home/html...anybody know why?

  • Managing multiple sites in different iWeb versions - PLEASE HELP!

apnewbie/cyclosaurus/roddy/old toad (and any others more knowledgeable than i):
i've run into a bit of a pickle. i am hoping someone can help straighten me out. i am about to jump out of a window. here's the rundown:
(for starters, i have a .mac account and am publishing to .mac.) i created a site in iWeb 1.1.2 on my work computer (mac book pro). worked great, really lovely. thought to myself, "hey, i'd like to create another site from home, but i don't have iWeb at home (powerbook G4) - i should buy iLife 08 so i can build these things from home and not have personal files on my work computer."
so: i had a site that i created within 1.1.2 with files written to iDisk. i purchased iWeb 08 and would like to have another site, but this one is being created in 2.0. i also am using a personal domain name this time around bought with google apps and hosted by godaddy. i published the new work in progress for a test run and...you guessed it...my original 1.1.2 site was rewritten by the 2.0 site. and the 2.0 site comes up as the standard google search page for domains that aren't up and running. whooopsie.
sorry for the lengthy intro, but that's the background. i guess my specific questions are:
    1) i want to be able to maintain multiple sites from iWeb 2.0...can i open my 1.1.2 domain file in 2.0 and successfully bring that site into 2.0?
    2) what is the most efficient and easiest way to get both of these sites running in 2.0? right now i have two domain files (created on two different computers).
    3) for domain management, is it best to move from the iWeb folder in my home library to different folders (one for each site, with separate domain files, and my 2.0 domain file is NOT called domain, it's the name of the site) to another location? (and of course, i will back these up just in case.) and when i want to update a site, i just open that individual domain file, right? or will these sites publish over each other?
please help. i am at my wits end. i'm sure this is a relatviely simple issue, but i'm new to iWeb.
thanks, thanks, thanks for your help guys.
    joojy

    joojy,
    Welcome to the forums!
First of all, your original 1.1.2 site may not, in fact, have been overwritten. It is quite possible that the site remains in it's position on the iDisk, Web/Sites/iWeb/YourSite, but because you published to the iDisk (.Mac) from 2.0, a different index.html file has been placed in the root level Web directory which is causing the 404 error. Navigate to the directory on the iDisk, using the Go menu in Finder, and look to see what is actually there. Follow this path:
    Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/YourSiteWillBeHereIfYourLuckIsGood
If your site is there, great; if it isn't, it's not really a problem because hopefully you still have the Domain.sites file on the MacBook Pro and you can republish it if necessary. If it is there, you can modify the index.html file on the iDisk using a text editor and get your url redirected back to where it should be.
Second, do not open your 1.1.2 Domain.sites file with 2.0 until you have a backup of this Domain file. External drives are best for this. Assuming the backup is in place, launch 2.0, choose the Domain.sites file, and click on "update". It will be updated to a Domain.sites2 file. If the site looks ok then continue on with editing/publishing.
Skipping to question (3), by all means, abandon the default location of the Domain.sites file in the Home folder's Library and get accustomed to keeping your Domain files in their own, respective folders. When you want to open one just double-click it.
You are going to encounter difficulties publishing multiple sites in 2.0.2, unless you keep all of the sites in a single Domain file. 2.0 is publishing to a different directory on the iDisk than 1.0; it publishes to /Web/Sites/, as opposed to /Web/Sites/iWeb/. Publishing a site from a separate Domain file erases previously published sites. I have been able to publish multiple sites, from multiple Domain.sites2 files, by mounting the iDisk and actually moving the Site folder back one level, into the root Web folder, and then publishing. When finished, I move it back again. If you have RSS feeds you will probably get a 'file in use' error. The alternative, (other than keeping all sites in a single Domain), is to publish the site to a folder and then manually drop the Site folder into the Web/Sites/ directory on the iDisk. Of course, some .Mac functions are lost when publishing this way.
Work through this info and post back.

  • PLEASE HELP!! I've used iWeb to create multiple sites, all published to third party servers.  The very last site I made changes to is showing up in any domain file I open - despite their different names and locations on my iMac.  I just switched to Lion.

Please HELP!!  I just switched to Lion.  I have created multiple websites using iWeb  3.0.4 and despite my having saved their 'domain' files in various locations and using different filenames, upon opening the domain files I keep getting the very last site I published.  All the sites were published to third party servers.  The domain files (still have a preview that look correct and have different file sizes) but keep going back to the last site published. HELP ME PLEASE!! Are the old files still available?!!

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Please help with creating more diverse iweb blog entries

I have a blog about sports memorabilia that I use iweb for: http://www.hoopography.com. I have come to a road block in creating blog entries. I have two issues:
1.) I would like to include more than one image for each blog. I tried to just add images and wrap text around when I create the entry in iWeb, but the images do not show up on the homepage where the blog section is located. I'm assuming I need more than one "place holder", but I have not been able to add more than one. Here is an example of another blog that has multiple images for one entry. Essentially, what I am trying to accomplish: http://offysports.blogspot.com/
2.) I would like to add YouTube videos so that they not only appear in the individual entry, but also on the homepage where the blog section is located (Otherwise, visitors to the site need to click on the entry to even realize the image is a video. I would like readers to be able to play it right on the homepage.). I have tried to use the "YouTube Widget" to add the videos when working on the entry in iWeb, but the video appears as a still image on the homepage's blog section.
I have some knowledge of iWeb and Macs. I have been using a Mac and iWeb to work on this blog for about 6 months now, but these 2 problems have stumped and constrained me and the blog. Please help!!!!!! Thanks You.

I tuned the Place holder into a YouTube Video Widget, and it does display on the homepage, but it does not display as a video. It displays as a still image that the reader has to click on to access the entry and then play the video in the entry instead of playing right on the homepage.
For the multiple images, are you saying that I can only have one placeholder? I do not follow. I want multiple placeholders for multiple images throughout the single entry (ex: http://offysports.blogspot.com/2010/05/2009-10-panini-studio-basketball.html)
    Thanks

  • IWeb Will not replace old website!  Please help!

I'm trying to replace an old website that was designed with Frontpage, with a new one designed with IWeb09. Every time I try to publish the new site, it publishes it to a subfolder. I read a few of the discussions, downloaded cyberduck, and deleted the old website files, but now I just get a blank page.
    Please help! Any ideas?

Well, yes, iWeb will publish to a sub folder called your Site folder, which will have the same name as you named your site within iWeb - this is what it is supposed to do and always will.
What you need to do is use Cyberduck and connect with your server and delete what was there previously and then, when you upload your new iWeb site, just upload the contents of your Site folder rather than the whole folder itself and then your url will be http://www.domain.com/pagename.
Just be aware that if you are using any RSS feeds, uploading your site in this way will make them inactive.
The other way to do it is to upload your whole site folder to your server's public_html file or wherever you have to upload to and then you get your separate index.html file and place this outside your public_html folder pointing in. Your RSS feeds will then work, however, your url will then be http://www.domain.com/sitename/page name.
    The choice is yours.

Since iWeb has discontinued by Apple the new systems don't handle the iWeb preference pane as it was in earlier.  The script corrects that situation and once you open the domain file the first time you can just use iWeb to open it from there on.  However, you'll need it if you plan on using more than one domain file. And adhear to the warning above.

  • Updated iWeb 2.0.2:  LOST Website - Please HELP

    Hi Folks,
I just ran software update today and installed all the updates. Upon opening iWeb and accepting the new license agreement, I was greeted not by the website I have spent months building; but the Template select screen. My business website is no where to be found. This is very frustrating. I noticed one other person had the same problem. Hope this can be remedied. Definitely going to set me back a few weeks. This is the first time in 6 years I have had a problem with anything Apple...Please Help!
    Best Regard,
    brfloyd

This is quite strange. I keep my websites in separate folders and launch iWeb from there. When I tried V2.0.2 I used one of these sites to launch it. I keep a file in the iWeb folder which is a sort of a dummy. This file was not effected nor erased by the update.
So many people have problems with these domain files. I wish iWeb had a popup telling people to back them up. I keep copies of them in my Home Folder and also on two external drives.
I use the application Super Duper to make incremental backups every week.
I once lost two months work when my hard drive failed. The bigger the disaster - the greater the lesson learned!

  • Mac Mail and GoDaddy... a bad match... please help

I have read all of the forums and seems like I am NOT the only one having problems with this... GoDaddy, although great customer support, can not help (bunch of PC users over there).
    Here is the problem:
Ports and relays seem to be fine... followed POP and SMTP precisely. When i try to send/receive mail i get the following error message:
The POP server “mail.mydomain.com” rejected the password for user “[email protected]
I spoke with cust serv at GoDaddy and they guy had me reset my pass on webmail. Did it. Didnt work. Another guy told me to reset my relays. Did it. Didnt work. The conclusion is that Mail.app is not supported by GoDaddy... How the **** can that be!? It is a straight forward POP, right?
Please, please help... I do not want to use another program just for this domain hosted with GoDaddy, nor do i want to use thier webmail (which by the way works fine).
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I don't think this is a Mail vs. GoDaddy issue. Rather, it looks like a DNS issue. If Mail can connect to the server but cannot log into your mail account for some reason, it'll ask for your password, regardless of whether that's really the problem or not. It could be that mail.yourdomain.com isn't resolving to the right IP address for some reason, for example.
Although unlikely in this case, it could also be a Keychain issue. Open Keychain Access, choose Keychain First Aid from the application menu, and proceed to repair the Keychain. If that doesn't work, you may try removing the password entry from the Keychain, and let Mail create it again.
Also, open Mail Help and read the article titled Mail keeps asking for my keychain password, in case there is something there that applies to you. There is a related article titled My password is not saved that you should ignore, as the last suggestion provided there (deleting the mail account) is wrong and could cause irretrievable data loss if this is not an IMAP-type account.

Drop shadows, borders etc are a bad idea in that they increase the file size and the download time of your page.
Create your image, drop shadow etc on your iWeb page, take a screenshot, crop it and replace the original image with the, much reduced, JPEG>
