Please help!!How do I transfer from a BROKEN computer to a new computer

Hello!
I really have a problem and I hope someone can help me out. My computer recently broke and I basically cant turn it on anymore (it will shut off after like 2min). I already bought a new computer but the problem is that I had all my music (including many CD's I bought at Itunes) in my itunes on my old computer.
I know that a computer store can probably save my files somehow from my old computer but I am worried that I wont be able to transfer my itunes including music because of copyrights?! I know that there is information in the Apple support centre about how to transfer music to a new computer, but this support is aimed at people who can still USE their old computer. I would really really appreciate if someone has an advice. If you know what to do, please include it step-by-step so I can follow it (sorry I am not very advanced with computers...).
I do have music on my Ipod nano but it only has 4GB so its only a small portion of all the music I have.

Just be sure to match the external case to the type of internal drive you have. So if your computer uses good old IDE/PATA drives, then get an IDE/PATA to USB2 ensloure. But if your computer uses Serial ATA drives (aka SATA) then be sure you get an external that supports that.
Alternatively, for about $20 or less you can buy a cable that will hook up to either type of drive and hooks to the computer via USB . No enclosure used, so these cables are meant to hook up to bare drives, mainly for temporary access to various drives you have laying around. Here is an example...
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=2020
which will let you hook up either 2.5 inch laptop drives or 3.5 inch full size drives and you can use either PATA or SATA drives with it.

My hard drive crashed.  I installed iTunes on my new computer.  How do I transfer my information on iphone 3gs onto the new iTunes?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone.  Without syncing :  File>Transfer Purchases   Authorize your computer for your itunes account first.
If you sync to a blank computer, then your contacts and calendars will be erased as well.  Another reason to always maintain a backup.
Enter one unique contact and calendar entry on the new computer.  When you first sync you should get the option to merge the data.

  • Hi there. Can someone please help me with copying photos from my old iPad to my new one? Thanks.

Hi there. Can someone please help me with copying photos from my old iPad to my new ipad2? Thanks.

If you have a pc, when you plug your iPad in you should see the windows pop up window offering to backup the photos. Do that and it will save all your photos and videos to your computer where you can then sync them back to your new one.
If the pop up doesn't come up, double click on my computer and navigate your way to the iPad. Double cick on it an d navigate to the DCIM folder. Drag your photos and videos to your pc, then sync them back onto your iPad.

How do I transfer my apps and music to a new computer?  I have authorized my Computer, but when I connect the ipod, it only comes up with the message box "Erase and sync.", I don't get the option to transfer my music and apps onto the Computer.  How can this be achived?  I really don't want the Computer to wipe my ipod.  Any help much appreciated.

    - Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - For other music you need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up.
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not include media like app and music.

  • How do I transfer my itunes music library to my new computer

How do I transfer my itunes music library to my new computer (not a mac owner)?

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • How do i transfer from an old PC to a new laptop?

    Hi,
Just bought myself a new laptop (windows Vista) and selling my old PC (windows Xp) to a friend. How do I transfer all my i-tunes to the new laptop? Can I send as a Win-zip file and then set it up from here or is it more complicated?
    Help!
    Thanks

Probably the most straightforward way to get iTunes onto your new computer is to network it with the old one and copy your iTunes folder across. This works fine if you have been using iTunes to completely manage your music and all your songs are in iTunes Music not in different folders. You can also use this method with an external hard drive, you drag the folder from the old computer to the external drive and then from the drive to the new computer. If the songs in your library are not all in the iTunes Music folder you can consolidate them. When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them: Copying all your iTunes files to one location - Windows
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the new computer. This has to be the exact same place, on a PC this is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will be the same as on the original one Songs, Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings etc. When I moved iTunes a while ago for my daughter I was also using the same version of iTunes, not sure how important that is but it's probably worth keeping them the same.
If you have an iPod it can be used as an external drive and you can move the iTunes folder onto it: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If you have any iTunes purchases in your library don't forget that you'll need to authorise your new computer to play them. Also if you are disposing of the old one remember to deauthorise it so you don't use up one of your allowances: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

  • How do I transfer my entire music collection to a new computer and sync my iphone with new mac without deleting existing music in iphone?

    Hi All,
I will describe my current setup and the required setup below. Please help me with the steps to do this
    Current setup:
    OS: Windows 7
Total Music collection: 80GB of mp3 , which is NOT added to itunes library (I use foobar)
iTunes Music collection: around 500 songs, synced to my iphone (unchecked "manually manage" that meeans all these songs are in itunes library)
Now the required setup: (Since I am planning to get a macbook pro)
OS: Mac OS  (This means the music file path will be different)
Total Music collection: 80GB which is to be added to itunes library
iPhone Music: The same 500 songs as before.
Is this possible? In Mac OS I want my entire 80GB to be added to itunes library, also keeping my existing iphone songs intact.
    Any ideas?

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
Longer answers if for any reason you do not think all library files are inside your iTunes folder (changed preferences settings at some point):
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
2011 ilounge article: Transferring your iTunes library - http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/  - An article with good background information (similar to the links above), particularly if you are not sure your media files are all grouped for quick answer above. Unfortunately under the single term "transferring library" it describes two very different moves; relocating just your media (not  really transferring your library and not recommended unless you really need this configuration), and relocating media+database (really your whole "library").  Make sure you understand the difference before electing to move only media.
Windows users see tip at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18879381
Consider moving everything from your Windows PC to your Mac in a single move, including your iTunes library: About Windows Migration Assistant - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4796 - Learn about how to use Windows Migration Assistant to migrate your files from a Windows PC to a Mac.
Transferring the library as above will connect your i-device to the same library on the new computer even though it is stored on different hardware. You should not see the "erase & sync" prompt, and syncing will preserve game scores and other data on the device.
As for the 80GB of music in foobar, add that to the iTunes library at some stage by dragging those files to the Automatically Add To  iTunes folder.

  • How do I restore from an external disk to my new computer?

I changed my PC, and took a copy of all photos to an external drive. Now, when I want to save them to my new PC, it does not succeed - next time I open my Elements, there is a ?-mark, and the program can't find the photo unless I connect the external drive again. How can I save all photos to my new PC?

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running. For now I will assume this involves a media reconnect in Premiere Elements and not the Elements Organizer.
When you import media into a Premiere Elements project, all you get in the project are copies of the originals that are at their hard drive save location. But, the project needs to trace back to the originals at the hard drive save location where they were when they were first imported into the project.
You should not have any problems when importing media from their current location when you open new projects.
How many saved closed projects do you have that were created before you switched the location of the source media of the project. (Remember, you will run into this problem if, after you save close the project, you move, delete, or rename its files/folders.) The "Where is the file....?" messages are good choices for the media reconnects, but... Let us know how many saved closed reopened projects are involved. Also, if the setup on the other computer still exists, it might be a consideration to archive the projects there and transfer the Copied Folder from the archive process to the new computer.
If instead this is a Photoshop Elements Elements Organizer based issue, please let us know.
    Thanks.

  • How do I transfer my Adobe CC software to my new computer?

    Hi there,
I am switching from from my current MacBook to a new MacBook and I would like a step by step guide as to how to transfer my Adobe CC software to my new computer?
    Regards,
    Natalia

There is no need to and you should not transfer Adobe applications between machines anyways because it doesn't work.  Just install the Creative Cloud applications the same way you did originally on the old machine.  You are allowed to have two working installations, so if you would like a backup available there is no need to remove the applications from the original machine.

  • Help - how do I transfer from ipod to library

    Hi all,
I have downloaded itunes onto a new computer and somehow managed to delete the file (when I thought I was transferring it) from the old computer. Therefore I have lost all of my library. I have still got all my music 5000 songs on my ipod and iphone however. So I'm trying to figure out how to get my music from the ipod and import it back into the library, without itunes wiping everything off my ipod (as current library on new computer) only has all my purchased songs. Alot are from cd's, etc...
I hope you can help me.
    Thanks

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device.  Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software.  A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

  • Please help: How to pass variable from main select to subquery

I have a table with four columns (id, status, start_date and end_date) as follows. What I want is to get the difference between the statuses' start_date to find out how long it takes for the ID to change status. Basically getting the difference of the Start_dates of the statuses for the ID.
    ID         Status               Start_date          End_date
