How do I remove a power on password for a Pavilion HDX9494nr laptop?
I have been trying to replace a damaged DVD drive for my son, so I could reload a non-booting OS, and the system reported drive errors from the new drive. I went into to check the settings, but when I exited CMOS the system asked for a power-on password. I did not set one so I have no clue what the password might be.
I know I need to remove the battery, remove a jumper, or perhaps push a reset button to eliminate the password, but I have no idea how which or how to identify and access these. Any ideas?Welcome AZ.

Yes, I could not find an HP laptop using the supplied user posted sytem ID. I don't work for HP and I try to help posters as best as I can. Info supplied by posters must be evaluated for relevance and my responses are provided based on indices of potential validity. In this case two instances of the same problem indicated potential linkage even though I could not identify the HP system involved.
If the system is a laptop, the problem both individuals are having it is not so easy to correct. If you use a Power on Password you really should copy (backup) and store the password for future use.

If you don't know your ID, you can try to find it as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5625. Then you can reset the password as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2617. Of course, you can only do this if it's your ID.

Please help! I can power the device off but when i try to unlock the screen its like it cant feel my finger tracing over my unlock design, thus I cannot sign into itunes to download what i have before I possibly loose everything My warranty is expired and I dont know if there is any other solution before I dump a bunch of money into this devise. If you had "Find My iPad" enabled in Settings > iCloud then you may be able to locate it. If not, you cannot locate it.
If it was enabled then you can try locating it via http://icloud.com on a computer or the App "Find My iPhone" on another iDevice. Note: this will only work if your device is connected to a network and the device hasn't already been restored as new and/or "Find My iPad" has not been disabled on it. Note: Disabling "Find My iPad" is much more difficult in iOS 7.
If you think that your device was stolen rather than lost then you should report it to the police. In either case you should contact your carrier, change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc.
