Please Help.... IEEE 1394

Just brought an IPOD nano ma4777zt/a (don't understand 2nd generation / click wheel ?)
and my PC runs Windows XP home Edition
loaded itunes onto my computer by clicking download on web site Itunes 7
Once complete connected ipod via cable and I've got the message
"No IEEE 1394 Host controller found"
Searched for 8 hours & nothing seems to have worked
Please help !!!!

Carefully check the bottom dock connector for any bent over pins or something in there shorting pins together. A magnifying glass would be a help.
The Firewire data pins on the dock connector are right next to some power pins and if you get a short between them, it can fool the iPod into thinking there is data coming in on the Firewire pins and it will give you Firewire related error messages.
For that matter, be sure to carefully check the Dock end of the USB cable for the same sort of problems. It would be help if you can find, beg, borrow, another USB cable, even if you just go to a local electronics store that sells iPods and see if you can test your iPod with one of their cables. Obviously if it doesn't give you the message on a different cable, then your cable is the issue. If you still get the message, then likely it is your iPod itself.

    Anybody got experienced before ?

the domains have to "trust" each other. Make sure to follow the instructions about the "enabled generated credential" in the following doc:

No IEEE 1394 Host Controller found.
When running iPod diagnostics from iTunes, that message merely indicates that your iPod has no firewire controller. Since the iPod 5th gen has none it's not surprising you see it, and it will always be displayed even if your iPod were working correctly. Ignore it, it's not relevant.

  • Ipod not found - will not sync; restored and lost everything. Please help.

    To whom it may concern,
My iPod Classic has worked perfectly for the few years I've had it. I only use it a few times a month on average so it's still in really nice shape.
Earlier today, I went to sync it like I do every couple of weeks whenever I add new songs, and something strange occurred. At first, it seems to say "Syncronizing..." but quickly stops and displays the "Connected" status instead - not long enough to sync even one song.
Sure enough, I checked it and it had not updated.
After using the "Run Diagnostics" option, it tells me "Device Sync Tests Results: No iPod touch, iPhone or iPad found."
Yet - under "Device Connectivity Tests", it does say "iPod Found" and it shows up as a device in my iTunes - but not in my Devices (under Preferences).
I followed every step in the troubleshooting guide that iTunes directed me to, each with the same results. As a last resort, I used a Factory Restore, which was what the website told me to do.
To my horror, the problem STILL persists - and I just cleared out not only all of my songs, but photos that were very important to me that I only had on my ipod. I even tried to do a backup first, but my device would not show up under the "Preferences/Devices" category, I could not even save them before I restored it.
Now I am stuck with an ipod that will not sync with my itunes library, and an ipod that has absolutely nothing on it. At least before I restored it, it had all of my old music and photos on it.
This is very frustrating and upsetting. If there is anything that might be able to be done, please help - and please, do not send me back to the same webpage - I already tried everything there at least twice now.
I also borrowed a different cable to make sure it wasn't my adapter, and there was no difference.
    To make matters worse, as I am trying to find someone to assist me, I received this message after entering my serial number;
"It looks like your product is not covered for complimentary technical support, so you may need to purchase a single incident of support."
This iPod already cost me $250.00 and that was steep in and of itself. I really do not feel that it would be fair to have to pay even more just to get some help when it malfunctions.
If absolutely anything can be done, please help me. I would be very grateful.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

This issue has been resolved - my Support Advisor, Edgar, was able to discern what was causing the problem.
It appears that, despite years of never experiencing this, one of the latest ipod updates actually altered my device's personal settings and changed it to "Manual" for all synchronizing; even performcing Factory Restores did not change it back to being automatic.
My ipod is working as good as ever now thanks to Edgar. If anyone else is having this problem, please make sure you check your device's settings in iTunes and see if "Manual" is checked - even if you never changed the settings yourself and have no reason to suspect that to be the problem, as was the case here. If it is checked - uncheck it to enable automatic syncing.
So relieved this was not a much more serious problem. I've missed having my music on the go. Thanks, Edgar!

  • Please help [Realtek LAN NIC problem]

Hi everyone, this might be a long post but PLEASE read it if you have the time, you might just know the solution to this problem. to begin with, here is my system:
    Windows 2000 pro sp4
    AMD Athlon64 3000+
MSI K8T Neo (BIOS rev. 1.10)
    1 GB (2x512) PC3500 Mushkin level 2 hi performance @ 2-3-2-6 timings
Samsung SATA 160 GB hard drive
ATI Radeon 9700 pro (catalyst 4.1)
Lite On 52x-32x-52x IDE CD Drive
    Enermax EG465P-VE FC (460W) 3.3V/35A , 5V/35A , 12V/33A
*There are not any other PCI cards installed.
    Now, here is the problem:
I did not notice the problem right away, you will not notice this if you are doing normal browsing or downloads. It came to my attention while I was receiving a file on IRC (using mIRC). while I was recieving the file I noticed that, somehow, I could no longer access the internet at all (neither on IRC, http, ftp .. nothing). I tried to find out why, I couldn't. so I rebooted the system and tried to continue receiving that file ... same thing happens. after a while of digging around my system and experimenting I found that sends from certain people will cause the problem, and i simply need to restart to get back online. this will happen always whenever those certain people send me anything. so, what's going on:
1 - Windows 2000 pro is freshly installed and up to date. i tried XP, it had the same problem; however, 2000pro is the operating system i will be using.
2 - the client is not the problem because i tried another one and the same thing happened. I have also tested 2 other computers and they worked fine (same file .. same person). note that the download was going faster on the other 2 computers.
3 - it is not the router because a direct link to the modem did not solve the problem. also, the other 2 computers had no problem with the router.
4 - i tested the Realtek driver that was included on the motherboard CD as well as the updated drivers from realtek website. that also did not help.
5 - windows reports that the device (realtek NIC adapter) is working properly and that there are no conflicts. realtek diagnostics utility also reports no problems.
6 - Realtek's Gigabit NIC shares IRQ 16 with the radeon 9700 pro, so I figured that i could reserve some of main memory to IRQ 16 to make sure things run with maximum stability:
on system.ini added the line -> IRQ[16] = 8192 (reserve 8MB of main memory for IRQ 16). this did not help. so i removed it.
7 - changing the NIC setting from "auto negotiation" to "100Mbps/Full duplex" did not help either.
8 - one time, the Realtek diagnostics utility was able to reload the device driver, and of course, i was able to go online without restarting. this happened only once. note that I tried to unload/reload the device through device manager many times but i always failed and then i have to press the power switch or reset button to actually reboot. normal windows shutdown/reboot is not possible. the same thing happens when Realtek's diagnostics finishes a test and tries to reload the driver (remember, it only succeeded once).
9 - system logs do not seem to report any problem. i even tried using inspectr.exe to try and find the reason for the driver crash but no crash was detected.
10- disabling the IEEE 1394 controller did not help.
it is obvious that there is something wrong with the driver, but there is a possibility it could be the board/device. if the driver is "flakey", it will mess up. if the device/chip/board is not working properly, then the driver will get stuck just as well.
    so, the solution?
I- Hit the wall with my head 7 times (2-3-2) then roll on the ground for a few minutes .. get up and hit the wall 13 more times (2-3-2-6) and then roll on the ground and sleep.
    or
II- burn it all .. yes ... BURN IT ALL. MOAHAHAHAHAH!!!
    or
III- RMA board or change it :(
I'm trying to decide whether it is the board or if it is the driver. I'm trying to find any excuse not to RMA or change the board. I will be installing linux, and networking is important to get rest of the files I need. I really would like not to rely on flakey hardware or driver. if it is the chip, i have to RMA. if it is the driver, change MB or get a NIC card and install it until realtek decides that it is a good idea to fix the driver.
i tried to check realtek's website but there was very little or no real helpful information to the end user (either that, or i was too upset to find the info i need on their website). I wish they had a forum like this one.
That is basically what i was thinking about .. of course, i could be wrong and the solution might be simple (i wish).
any suggestions, tweaks, patches, information that you guys know about are appreciated and may be of great help. Are there any setting in the BIOS that i need to set in some way to make sure this works properly? would the new BIOS revision 1.20 fix this?
I apologize for the lengthy post. I believe that I've managed to fry whatever brain cells I had left over the past few days. So,  I apologize for any spelling/grammer mistakes
    thank you in advance

Blaming every problem on the MSI K8T NEO FSR on a 350w power source is utter crap!
Why would ANY Computer hardware shops even SELL SYSTEMS on a 350w powersource on the thousands if a 350watt power source wouldnt be enough for the motherboard, what you are saying that hundreds of HW stores are just saying FU to every customer they sell a computer unit WHICH COMES PRE-EQUIPPED with a 350W powersource!!! I've seen various configurations using a 350w power source working just fine!
I simply DO NOT believe that the system aint getting enough power, that's bull! This would cause considerable UNSTABILITIES and other problems on the system besides dysfunctional S-ATA Hard drives and NIC problems, eg. like artifacts while playing games, crackling in audio, bluescreens and other symptoms!
I just noticed today that my on board NIC had jammed while downloading Torrent files, had to reboot my cable modem, this could be nothing and could simply be an ISP matter, or it could be that my K8T NEO FSR also has a problem with the NIC, again i stress that i havent done really any testing so this raving could be about nothing.
I solved my S-ATA problem by changing back to a similiar IDE 8MB cache 7200 rpm Samsung 160 GB drive. No problems what so ever with register / file corruption! I've also been in contact with VIA who are currently investigating problems with the 8237 Southbridge controller equipped motherboards like the K8T NEO FSR (http://www.viaarena.com -> forums)

You can e-mail me direct on [email protected] if easier.

Same as, although a new development on this last night, I borrowed a mates USB hub that has it's own mains power supply and for a short time my laptop recognised my IPOD, I obviously thought i had found the solutions as it started to sync at which point the smug smile left my face as i could smell burning plastic. Yep, the usb cable was melting in to the USB hub. so not only won't the sodding thing work properly it is a god **** fire hazard. Luckily our producst that cost hundreds of pounds are supported by friendly and helpful people at Apple!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh and i downloaded itunes 7.6 last night and nothing.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dropped my Ipod, I have put it in Disk Mode, I have downloaded the new software, tried to restore it and it has seized please help?

I dropped my Ipod (4TH Generation Ipod Nano) I have got it start up again I have put it in disk mode and connected it to Itunes,
I have downloaded the new software through Itunes, that went well, it came up as normal.
I have got it to restore to factory settings. (Although before hand it synced and all that)
During this process it has seized and not done what it was suppose to, only displaying the Apple Symbol.
I disconnected, and it has gone flat and now is telling me to connect it to power, when I do so nothing happens.
    It won't connect to itunes.
    Please help.

    Hello there pipem90,
Heres an article about that very issue. Check out this article named iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369.
There is more to the article but start here:
    1. Start with the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant
If you have not already done so, try the steps in the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant which applies to your iPod; this will often solve your issue.
If you're still experiencing the issue after going through each of the steps in the assistant, continue with the steps below in this article. The most likely solutions are listed below (for both USB and FireWire (IEEE 1394) iPod connections). Check each section starting from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping your iPod from appearing.
Note: To determine if your iPod syncs via USB or FireWire, check the table in the Additional Information section below.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • 2014 Sync problems on iPod classic / Please help!! 2014

    Hello community!
I really need some help with this problem I am having... I have done some research for the past few days on my own but nothing I have found has helped.
First some specs on my device...
iPod Classic: 80 GB (I believe this is iPod with video, assumed on the fact that it supports movie syncs)
iPod software version: 1.1.2 (up to date according to iTunes)
    Formatted for Windows
Syncing to Dell Inspiron with Windows 7
iTunes updated to current version (11.4)
I had much mof my music library uploaded onto my iPod for quite sometime. (close to 14,000 songs synced at 192 kbps) I often like to put my iPod on shuffle and just listen to whatever comes on, but here and there I will skip songs until something I am in the mood for comes on... I began to notice that my iPod was freezing (ON THE DISPLAY ONLY!!! Playback through speakers continued) when I would skip through songs... Once the screen dimmed however, I could once again skip to the next song. I figured this was a problem concerning corrupted files or something similar. These are the steps I took..
1.) Updated iTunes to version 11.4 and checked for further updates
2.) ATTEMPTED to check disk within Windows (was unsuccessful and heard the iPod making a lot of 'clicking' noises from within the casing)
3.) Performed an iPod restore within iTunes
4.) Performed a check disk within Windows and recovered any bad sectors (SUCCESSFUL)
5.) Selected 'Music' sync and the option for 'Entire music library'
    6.) UNCHECKED 'Include music videos'
7.) Reconfigured settings as they were before and made slight changes..
a.) Checked 'Open iTunes when this iPod is connected'
b.) Checked 'Sync only checked songs and videos'
c.) Checked 'Convert higher bit rate songs to '192 kbps' AAC'
d.) Unchecked 'Manually manage music and videos'
         e.) Unchecked 'Enable disk use'
8.) Began a sync on my iPod... With well over 10,000 songs I knew this was going to be a lengthy process.. I left computer unattended..
When I returned to my computer, iTunes was unresponsive... The only way I could get iTunes to show was to minimize a Window on top of iTunes. iTunes states 'Syncing iPod... Do not disconnect' but does not show a rolling progress bar.. I cannot cancel sync, I cannot eject iPod, I cannot close iTunes...
I attempt to eject iPod device through windows, UNSUCCESSFUL (Cannot unmount generic volume while the device is in use)
I 'Ctrl+Alt+Dlt' to Task Manager and End Program 'iTunes' UNSUCCESSFUL..
I End Process 'iTunes.exe *32' and eject iPod through Windows SUCCESSFUL
When the iPod displayed 'OK to disconnect with load bar, I disconnected the device.
As soon as this bar was full iPod IMMEDIATELY rebooted completely and powered back up with only 20 songs synced. (Frustration ensues)
Confused and thinking maybe my screen saver caused an interruption during the sync, I changed screen saver and power saving options to eliminate any possible interruption, REPEATED STEPS 3-8 ABOVE, and started sync again.. Left computer unattended
Again, coming back to computer much later, iTunes was in the same unresponsive state. Closed iTunes and began looking for answers on the internet. Any and all answers I found stated I should restore iPod, update iTunes, run diagnostics tests, etc., etc...
All of which I had done EXCEPT for running a diagnostics test..
Running a diagnostics test: I ran only the tests concerned with 'Device Connectivity' and 'Device sync' tests.. Here are the very interesting results I yielded from these tests...
    Device Connectivity Test:
    Support services:
'iPod support service is running.' Status: GREEN
'iTunes Helper is running.' Status: GREEN
'Apple Mobile Device is running.' Status: GREEN
    Ports:
         'USB ports verified.' Status: GREEN
'No FireWire (IEEE 1394) ports found.' Status: GREEN
         'iPod found.' Status GREEN
    ALL TESTS PASSED
    Device Sync Tests
    Results:
No iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad found. Status: RED
    ONE OR MORE TESTS FAILED
I am at a loss, I realize that Apple has discontinued the iPod Classic but does that mean iTunes will no longer support these devices!?
And if ANYONE has ANY suggestions for possible steps I can take to regain syncing privileges to my iPod once again, please let me know!
Also, I have diagnostics test results saved on my desktop and available to post if required!
Thank you for any and all help!
    -Chris

    !UPDATE!
I made several adjustments to my sync options and made some progress and am now trying to sync in 'stages' as I like to think of them.
    Here is what I did:
1.) Under 'Music' tab in 'My iPod' options I opted to sync 'Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres'
2.) Selected a small portion of tunes I know I want on my iPod (ended up being close to 3,500 songs.
3.) Under 'Summary' tab I unchecked the 'Sync only checked songs and videos' box
4.) Unchecked 'Convert higher bit rate songs to ___ AAC'
    5.) Checked 'Enable disk use'
    6.) Ran a SUCCESSFUL sync!
I am now running a sync keeping the same adjustments in place and have added 6,556 songs. (SYNC IN PROGRESS)
I am wondering if trying to convert that many songs to a lower bit rate is causing sync problems and it appears as if I am at least making progress on this. HOWEVER, I really prefer to decrease the bit rate on my songs so I may fit more on my iPod... Usually most of the files I have in iTunes are at 320 kbps with a select few at 192 kbps. I would like to make everything the way it was before my first iPod restore.. 192 kbps, but this also seems to be the cause of the sync problems I am having? Anyone else have a comment on this?
    Thanks again
    -Chris

  • HT1369 My Ipod account is saying that my ipod is synced to a differnt account, please help.

    Hi there.
I have been having trouble with my Ipod nano. It was working great for the first few months, and it was simple to download, and sync songs to it. But it suddenly began to say that my ipod was synced to another account. I have tried to run the diagnostics, and the results are attatched. I did have to connect my ipod to my cousins accont back a few months ago, because we needed the songs for school.  Those were the last two songs I purchased. I was able to upload music off CD's after that, then it started giving me this message about my account being synced to another account. I tried syncing it anyway, but it gives me the option to either delete the previous syned information, and I can't do that, because I purchased $50 worth of songs, and I can't loose them. If anyone can help me, Id' be very grateful.
    Olivia.

  • Please help! Will any of these camera's work with VC3 Camera Requirements?

I am looking to do news broadcasts for my website. I was looking into Panasonic GS-500, GOOD CAMERA, discontinued. I don't like the GS320 as it doesn't include a mic or headphone input. So I have no choice but to spendaround a thousand dollars for a 3CCD or CMOS camera that can shoot good broadcast web news segments.
I have narrowed my choice to three camera's that have mic, firewire, essential for VC3 but I can't decide. I don't know if they are compatibile with the software, need help from the experts.
This is requirement from the adobe website:
******What types of cameras can I use with Visual Communicator?*******
Visual Communicator works with standard webcams and camcorders. Most camcorders will require some kind of video input card such as a FireWire (IEEE 1394) card or an analog capture card. Whether you are using a webcam or camcorder, it's important that the camera or input card has a Windows®driver that is DirectShow compatible. Most of them do. If your device is older, you might need to visit the manufacturer's website to download a new driver that is DirectShow compatible. Inside Visual Communicator you will find a menu that lists all of the DirectShow devices attached to your computer, and you can select which one you wish to use for your video input. If you have an analog video capture card, you can also hook up your VCR and use recorded footage.*********
Could you please read the specs and let me know if they will work with VC3:

  • W520 Replace DVD with another Hard Drive and IEEE 1394 spec for music recording

To increase the performance, I am taking the 160 GB SSD instead of the mechanical drive. Obviouslt, I need more space than this. I don't care about the DVD rom. It can't play blu ray anyway. Is it possible to replace the dvd drive with a hard drive? Where can I get a replaceable drive for this? What do I do with the DVD? Can I sell it back?
I need to do music recording with this. I was wondering about the IEEE 1394 spec; the latency etc. If I remember correctly the W510 IEEE1394 was very good, probably was manufactured by Texas Instruments. I could not find anything about it anywhere. Not even here: http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tabook.pdf
Also, a bit worried about the sound card. How good is it? Did anyone use this laptop for music recording?

    hey udvranto,
with regard to this, i would suggest contacting tech support via the number listed in the link below to check if it is possible to replace the dvd with your harddrive.
    http://www.lenovo.com/contact/us/en/
on the part of the soundcard, I believe it is good for music recording. Though this really depends on the software that you're going to use to record.
