I would be most grateful if someone would help me in the following:
I am working on DnD. How can the component that
receives the drops know from which component did the drag originate,
i.e. what is being dropped?
For example if I am dropping from
tree1 to tree2. When tree2 receives the drop from tree1, I would
like to check if it is really from tree1 rather then from tree3?

I have just ordered myself an iPod video, 30gb. I currently own an iPod photo 30gb with around 6gb of music on it. Most of the music on it is only on the iPod, ie I copied the mp3's directly to the Pod to save hard drive space on my G5. How can I go about putting this music on my new iPod video?I have tried dragging the music from the iPod to the iTunes library but it wont work. Surely this can be done? It will take me hours to put it all on again! PLEASE HELP!

I am running server app on Yosemite but unfortunately creating home folder for my users in server didn't turn out well. So I have decided to let users store their data locally and just provide them with only services. Someone could please let me know if there is any way I could sync desktop and document folder of my client using mobility in profile manager. By that way client would be able to get what they store in those two folder on any computer in my office when they login using their network account credentials. Appreciate all help. Thank You

I thought that that would happen if you give the user a home folder on the server but I guess from you post that it doesn't. It was more obvious how to do in Workgroup Manager but there is no WGM for MOS 10.10 :-/ WGM for MOS 10.9 still works under 10.10 though in case you have it installed. In that case I can guide you (should work with WGM on a client or the server).

Please help with updated info how to Move iTunes 10.5.2 to a new MacBook Pro

With Christmas fast approaching, and new MAC computers being left under the tree, I would find it helpful for an update as to how best to move my son's iTunes library from my iMac (late 2011 version with Lion) which he is sharing to his new MacBook Pro (Early 2011 with Lion upgrade) . There is a lot of old information floating around on how to do this with prior versions of iTunes, but with iCloud and Apps now in the cloud I would like someone knowledgeable to update me and the community with the best way to do this for the latest versions of iTunes running on Lion. He also has his iPhone 4 synched with his account on my iMac and would like to deauthorize his iTunes on my iMac and have him sync on his new computer as well. I know it is probably hidden among the forums somewhere, but with a lot of people upgrading to new computers, it would be helpful for a refresher on this thread. Thanks!

Hello, and thanks in advance for any help you can provide to my situation. I am looking to find the most stable and efficient way to route the following studio equipment. I am running Logic Pro 7.1.1 on a Mac dual 2.0 G5 (not intel), just got a MOTU 2408 mk3 as the PCI interface. I also just purchased a Mackie Onyx 800 R (8 pre-amps), as well as already having a Mackie 400 F (4 more pres, as well as being able to insert 4 channels of my ART Pro VLA outboard compression on the first 4 channels, before conversion into the computer, 'to tape' if you will). I don't need the 400 F's firewire or monitoring features anymore, as the MOTU 2408 mk 3 comes with a CueMix monitoring feature. Really I would just like to use the 4 pres with inserts.
I have 2 questions, one about audio routing and the other regarding clock source and syncing these devices in the best way. In terms of audio routing, the available digital outs on the 800 R are either ADAT or the DB25 ->AES/EBU or SPDIF connector. The 400 F unit adds another S/PDIF in/out (2 channels). The available digital inputs of the MOTU 2408 are 3 banks of 8 channels of ADAT lightpipe (up to 96kHz via S/MUX), 3 banks of TDIF via DB25 connectors, one bank of S/PDIF (only bank C), and one bank of 8 analog inputs via 1/4" balanced connections. These banks are interchangeable, except the S/PDIF only allowed on bank C. The 400 F provides an additional 8 analog inputs/outputs via 1/4" balanced.
Audio routing, is this right? To run the 800 R ADAT outs via lightpipe into one bank of OPTICAL of the 2408, say at 48k (so all 8 channels are sent with one cable, rather than splitting higher resolutions), then run channels 1-2 out of the 400 F via S/PDIF into the S/PDIF bank C in the 2408, and then channels 3-4 of the 400 F analog into the analog bank of 2408? I realize I would be 'double converting' these last 2 channels, first A/D on the Mackie and then A/D again on the MOTU. Any correction or insight is highly appreciated with audio routing.
Sync Issues:
The 2408 mk3 provides many sync options, including WORD CLOCK OUT/IN. The Mackie 400 F also has WORD OUT/IN. The 800 R has WORD IN and a termination button. I know I probably need to eventually buy a Big Ben, but is it worth it to use Word Clock with the devices I have now? And if so, would the correct order be 2408 (master, set to 'Word Clock out' in the clock options of the audio control panel) -> into 400 F (set to external WC) -> into 800 R (set to external WC, then terminated)? Or does the lightpipe and S/PDIF take care of sync on each bank without the need for a master Word Clock. What would the setting be for the 2408 in any case?

Simple question, I hope.
In the string:

Where do I get the information on this in the docs? I want to know what the "f" stands for in the arguments to get a good understanding of this code. I searched through the color docs and could not find what I need to know. Can't find a reference to this. I thought I might not be looking in the correct area.

How do I find how large my Hard Drive is? Please help!

Recently been getting messages saying that my startup disk is full. And I'm thinking about getting a Time Capsule. But the thing is, I can't find out how big my hard drive is. I clicked the apple, then About this mac, and I could only find "Memory", which was only 1 GB. I know that can't be it, because my iTunes is over 90 GB. But I can't find the hard drive. Either I'm blind, or it's not there.

Click more info in the about this mac pop up. Then under Serial-ATA. This will give you the size.
You can also click on your drive in finder and choose Get Info. This will also let you see the size.

Trying to activate a creative suite (mac)... please help

Have had a rough day with Adobe... have been "helped" by the chat people at least 10 times today with no resolution. Some component of my computer (Mac) got fried, and the Apple geniuses advised me to retrieve the data and applications by getting an external enclosure and hooking the hard drive up to another Mac. I did that, but the adobe applications said that I needed to put in a new serial number. After several attempts at using the chat feature, one of the Adobe employees said that I needed to uninstall and try again (and they would do something on their end to make it work). I have this latest transcript (see below), BUT IT STILL DOES NOT WORK after re-installing. Please help...

Ned, thanks for the reply. However, that doesn't seem to solve (or actually get me any closer to solving) the problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled the creative suite, but I still get the window that says that I have 30 days to activate the software. Then, the serial number that should activate it (per Sparks above) does not. This is followed by another window that says, "We are unable to activate Adobe Design Suite Standard CS3. Click the Phone Activation button to learn how to speak with one of our Customer Care representatives." After clicking the phone activation button, however, and going through that whole process, no opportunity to speak with a Customer Care representative occurs. Before being hung up on by the automated menu voice, I am directed to use the chat feature to "speak" with a representative. This is how I've come to communicate with a number of representatives today (Sunita K / Case # 0213839182; Souvik S / Case #0213841272; Naacom N / Case #0213841941; Sparks / Case # Unknown; and others) - none of whom has been able to follow through on assisting.

I can't find my mac mail email folders I need to get to them. Please help.

I use mac mail and had some folders in there to organize my emails. I clicked on my computer the other day to use the mouse and they disapeared. I have no clue where they are. MacBook Pro not turning on, please help!!

I have no clue what is wrong with it. I shut the screen so I could move the computer to my room, then bam. Nothing. It's like it's dead. I didn't do anything to update it or add anything to it. It is a MacBook Pro 15in from 2011. The battery buttons on the side don't do anything. When I plug the adaptor in it doesn't do anything. I tried to do the command option control and power button, nothing. I tried the power button plus shift whatever p and r, nothing happened. My life is on the computer, I need it to work. Please help!!

PLEASE HELP! TROUBLE INSTALLING

I was just updating MAC OS X Tiger to my computer. And when it restarts, an alert comes up and says that the installation cannot be complete. I really don't care about that right now, but what I do care about is that I cannot eject the installation cd from the computer. I've tried CTRL ALT DEL. HOlding down the apple button. Nothing! Any ideas, please help?
Also, I have some videos saved on the computer, some installations, (FCP, screenwriter magic)...is my desktop deleted? If it is, any way to save it?
I beg of anyone to please help with any info because I'm about to freak out.

what are you updating from? is it 10.3?? in that case, you should not use the tiger disk to repair the disk. it will make it more than likely that you will have to erase and install your computer. use the install disk that is the same operating system to repair the disk. if you can't get the tiger disk out by holding down the mouse try booting to open firmware holding apple-option-o-f and then type in the following command--
eject cd (hit return)
reset-all (hit return)

If it says your billing info is wrong that means that your credit card issuer is refusing to approve your account. You will have to solve the problem with your bank or credit card company.

I was able copy the hardrive of my old macbook from "My Passport" onto the desktop on an older iMac. but i dont know how to make my hardrive and user name be the main one since someone had used it in the past and had their info on the comp. please help!

I recently broke my 2008 macbook. i was able to use an external hardrive to back up my data onto My Passport. I was going to buy a new computer but a friend told me sher had an older version of the iMac. (not sure how old but it doesnt have a camera if that helps) i was able to hook it up and turn it on but i ran into a few problems. 1) the "authentic" user or whatever it says is someone who previously used the computer. i added me as a user but im not sure how to make me the main user. 2) after hooking up My Passport, i was able to drag my files and copy them to the desktop.(i think i did it correctly) now, i dont know how to make my hard drive and applications and iformation the "main " info. The current apps on the iMac are super old versions of iTunes and iPhoto and such. 3) while trying to open the apps from my macbook on the iMac, it said it didnt have the right software to open these apps.
I am so computer illiterate so someone please help!!! Also, i do not have internet in my new apartment yet so if there is a way to make this happen without using the internet that would be preferred. sorry for the horrible spelling and poorly written paragraph.
