Please Help in Wireless Networking

This is my first post....I have three Macs and would want to share same iPhotos, Aperture and iTunes libraries on all Macs (2 MBPs, iMac). Can someone please help me what are the options?
Would Time Capsule work for this purpose?
I don't want to use same libraries on all three Macs at the same time but if uploaded some photos on MobileMe from iPhoto on one Mac then the other Mac should also have the same info.

.I have three Macs and would want to share same iPhotos, Aperture and iTunes libraries on all Macs (2 MBPs, iMac).
I don't want to use same libraries on all three Macs at the same time
These two statements seem a bit contradictory.
Options would be to locate the libraries on the Time Capsule, by copying them there from one machine and specifying that location in the preferences for each ap on each machine. All three machines would be able to access the same library. The big disadvantage there is obvious - when you take the MBPs out of the house, you can't access your data. So, I suspect this is not the option for you!
Alternatively, just share the libraries over the local network. There, you're not using the storage capability of Time Capsule, just the Wi-Fi network (thus, any Wi-Fi network would do). To set that up, for example in iTunes, select iTunes menu > Preferences > Sharing and check the boxes to Look for Shared Libraries and Share My Library... iPhoto has a similar setting, etc. If you can't see the other libraries, you may also need to allow access through the Firewall (if you have that active) on each machine - System Preferences > Security > Firewall tab.
Hope this helps...

The problem that I'm having on multiple devices gives me this message on my desktop PC. No devices in the house can connect to the internet apart from xbox systems weirdly enough. I have 3 xbox's in the house, two 360's and one xbox one which all connect perfectly fine.
No computers will connect and no mobile phones. The router is shining a blue light indicating that nothing is wrong. I have been searching for a solution for hours now and nothing has worked. If someone has a suggestion please let me hear it.

  • Help with wireless network set up on 8820

Can someone please give me some help before I pull the rest of my hair out!
I am trying to connect my 8820 and also an 8110 to our home wireless network, each time I go through the set up procedure and find the network, put in the correct WEP key and then try and connect it gives me the following error messages on both phone "Device failed to associate with the AP." can some one please tell me where I am going wrong?
I have changed the home network from WPA to WEP as there is no option for WPA in the settings.
    Help Please.
    Many thanks in advance

I am unable to connect a 8820 on my network with same message noted by User: leomyles.  I am able connect my Bold 9000 without any difficulty.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I would not have thought there should be such a problem within 2 Blackberry models.
I too need help on resolving this issue. I would have chosen another model for my staff had I known such a problem existed.

  • Please help with wireless printing

I am running a wireless network in the house and having trouble printing. The printer (Canon MP800) is connected via USB to my Windows XP desktop. The desktop is connected via Ethernet to a 2Wire DSL modem that broadcasts the wireless signal to my Powerbook G4 running OSX (10.4.10). I can’t get the powerbook to print, though.
I have followed the instructions at http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3015.html up to the point where it says:
“Select the printer but do not click Add as you need to change the Printer Model.”
    “Under Printer Model select HP.”
I assume that since I am using a Canon that I should look for Canon instead of HP. The only options I get are
    Generic
    Other
    Apple
    ESP
“Generic” is a selection all by itself
“Other” opens up a finder dialog box that allows me to choose a file on my harddrive, but I have no idea where to go.
“Apple” opens a pulldown menu that allows me to select from a list of Apple printers.
“ESP” opens a pulldown menu that allows me to select from a list of other printers. This list includes Epson, HP, etc. but does not include any Canon printers.
I selected the “Generic” option. When I try to print from the powerbook, I have noticed that the printer queue on my Windows XP desktop shows a document entitled “Remote Downlevel Document.” The printer queue spools up with this document, it appears to go through the cycle and then disappear (as a normal print document does), but nothing happens on the printer.
The desktop will print normally. The powerbook will print normally when I connect the printer to it via the USB cable but another printer is created in the Printer List. This printer is named MP800 and is kind: Canon MP800 whereas the first attempt (wirelessly) names it Canon MP8 and is kind: Generic Postscript Printer.
In troubleshooting I have attempted to remove and reload the printer from both the powerbook and the desktop independently to no avail. I have even temporarily removed the firewall (Norton 360) from the desktop to make sure that wasn’t it.
I Googled the term “Remote Downlevel Document” and discovered that it was associated with a virus that affects print servers. I updated my Norton anti-virus and did a full system scan which came up clean. Some of the Google results also suggested that there might be clutter in one of the printer folders in Windows. I should remove any .tmp files I find there, but when I followed the path, there were no such files in that folder.
I apologize for the length but I wanted to make sure I had a full and accurate account in case someone might be able to point me in the next appropriate direction. Thanks for whatever advice you can offer.
I am cross posting this question on the macbookpro yahoo group, the applemac yahoo group and the apple discussion page.

still looking for some help on this intriguing matter... if anyone can help out, i'd really appreciate it! thanks.
    edited original post:
I have a Samsung ML-1710 printer which we use with both an iMac and an iBook. When the iMac needs the printer, we connect the printer's USB cable to the iMac. When the iBook needs the printer, we connect the printer's USB cable to the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS).
Both the computers use the AEBS - the iMac is connected via ethernet (DSL modem) and the iBook connects to the AEBS wireless network.
The small annoyance of having to change the USB cable aside, there is a bigger problem. After every time the printer is used by the iMac, printing does not go through on the iBook. The only solution I've found is to restart the AEBS (through AirPort Admin Utility). As this interrupts the wireless network, it is a major annoyance.
I do not want to spend $ on an Airport card for the iMac at this point...
Is there any way to correct this? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Help with wireless networking with my Photosmart 6525 on Mac 10.8.5

I have just purchased an HP Photosmart 6525 and cannot get the wireless printing to work. I've followed all of the instructions provided online and printed with the device.
I'm attempting to connect from my Macbook Air running 10.8.5. I've successfully connected the printer to my wireless network - I just printed the wireless network test and it states "No problems found. Congratulations...". Gee thanks...
I've taken the steps of enabling Wireless Direct, and Web Service, ePrint is on. By the way, all of these different options are totally unhelpful - I cannot determine which are actually required to just connect via wi-fi?
I also downloaded and installed the latest driver software from HP. Going through the setup it reaches a point where it tells me to unplug USB (cannot go through it without it connected I learned) so it can configure wireless. Then it tells me it cannot find the device.
I have no option to skip this and although I've run it several times I still don't see the "setup assistant" application that it supposedly installed.
I've seen elsewhere that there is supposed to be the ability to connect directly to the printer via browser, by typing in the IP address. I've verified that the IP address appears valid for my network (192.168.1....) but when I put it into Chrome it cannot find it.
My frustration level is rapidly rising as the documentation and online support for this product is incredibly disjointed and unhelpful. I've searched online for hours, including this forum. Would appreciate any pointers to more detailed help / instruction before I am forced to return this printer.

    Hi,
Not sure this will ultimately help, but you should update your version from 14.0.0 to 14.1.2. If you can get to the update via Help> Updates... try using the Creative Cloud desktop application found here:
    https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud
You may already have it installed; it can be found in the Applications directory for a default install.

  • PLEASE HELP:printing to network printer from MacBook to PC

    Greetings,
I have a desktop running XP with a HP PSC 1210 attached by USB. Last week I upgraded from an old Windows laptop to a shiny new MacBook. Love it but can't print through the wireless network.
    I have:
Followed the ifelix guide and was able to see the printer though the network and add it.
Followed the ifelic guide for troubleshooting and installed the unix tcp/ip printing component of windows. Still no printing.
Installed both the hpisj and esp drivers and added printers on the MacBook selecting each of one of these driver. No printing.
    What happens:
The print job becomes active then finishes on the MacBook. It is then sent through the network where it appears as a print job in the queue with the status as 'printing' and then it just sits there and does nothing never going away and doesn't allow other jobs to print after it.
I also tried travelling over 100 kilometers this weekend to the Apple store in Toronto and spoke with a Genius at the Genius bar who, without even trying said that some printers just won't work. When I asked him which printers definitely would work, he had no idea. His only suggestions was to turn print sharing off on the Mac side. Not exactly worth the 3 hours of driving.
So, while I love my MacBook, I have actually lost a much used function that I had on my old crummy laptop; a function that will be dearly missed.
Please, if anyone has any suggestions, I would be greatly appreciative. If I need to provide any more details, let me know.
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   iPOD Video 30Gb, Desktop PC

The link you gave is for printing from Classic programs on the same Mac. To print from another Mac running OS 9.2:
    1) On the server (with printer attached) enable print sharing both in Sharing prefs and in Print & Fax prefs.
    2) again on OS X (server), in Printer Setup highlight the Deskjet and click Show Info and find and write down the queue name. Also find the server IP address in Network Prefs and write it down.
    3) On the OS 9 computer, find Apple Printer Utility (usually in Apple Extras) and start it. Create an LPR/LPD printer and enter the IP address and queue name where asked for.
    4) Important - For printer model, choose an Apple Color LaserWriter xx as the PPD/model. This entire setup assumes a postscript printer. The good news is that OS X expects to receive postscript input and it translates that for the Deskjet.
PS, it is possible that the HP driver you installed on OS9 could work, in which case you don't need to follow the above postscript procedure. Instead, in Chooser on OS 9, select the appletalk driver for your deskjet and if the printer attached to the server shows up, select it (right side of Chooser) and it may then work. I haven't got an older deskjet to try, so I don't know if it'll work.

  • Please Help!! Network Card Won't Detect Modem.. Advise about my options?

Thank you in advance for reading my post and for any help and advise..
I am on a friends computer because my Network Card went caput!.. now my computer can not detect my modem..
What happened?.. my surge protector did not protect my iMac during a thunder storm, and I have not been able to get online since.
I am almost sure now that my Network Card is the problem.. I have heard I will have to replace the entire board now! This could not have come at a worse time for me, so I am hoping and praying someone here will have a less expensive work around for me.
I am currently running a 700MHz G4 Flat Pannel with a DSL modem from Bell South. I was using my Ethernet input to get online, but, again, the modem can no longer be detected. This particular modem will not allow me to connect via USB either. If it did allow me to connect via USB, would that even work seeing how my network card is a wash?
Is there a way I can get another modem and use a USB or wireless something or the other to get my iMac back online without having to sell my arm and leg?
Sorry about the length of this post; I just want to make sure I cover as many bases as I can think of. Thank you again for any help; I really appreciate it! *april

BRAD!.. we are two ships sailing in the same mirky water; please somebody light a flair or something! =P
I always thought these things happened to 'other' people.. REALLY stinks to be us right now.
I have been doing some more reading.. my friend was nice enough to let me borrow his computer for a little bit. However, I still have not come across a definitive answer for a proven Internet access alternative.
So far, I have read about one other option that MAY work.. What I really need to know is.. with a corrupt Network Card, is it even POSSIBLE to get online by ANY other means? Or does having a corrupt Network Card mean that it destroys ANY other way to get online without having to replace the entire board? Is the Network Card what enables us to get online, or does the Network Card just allow us to connect to the Internet via Ethernet cable alone? I still have not found an answer to these questions.
That said, I mentioned reading about another Internet connection solution. This other option involves buying what is called a wireless router and a wireless AirPort card. I think they have to be installed inside the hard shell?? So with these parts and service, I believe we are still looking at a ballpark of US$200. I wish somebody could tell us, are there any other options?
On a side note, I have also learned that my particular 700 MHz iMac Flat Pannel will NOT take the wirelss AirPort EXTREME card; it will ONLY take the Original AirPort card, which, by the way, are more expensive and hard to find. Not too sure exactly what iMac Flat Pannel you have, Brad, but you should try to find out which one will work for your iMac. I don't know if I should trust eBay for used electronics, but it seems you can pick them up for a little less money than on any online websites. I saw some on a website called macofalltrades.com for about US$100.00; this website looks legit. I also tried Craigslist.ORG, and somebody was only selling an AirPort Extreme card, not the original... It may be worth looking on a near by big city local Craigslist though; make sure you click on the city nearest you.. The default craigslist.org is for San Francisco. I have heard a wireless router costs about US$40.00. However, I don't know exactly what a wireless router is or even what type I need to be looking for, what brand etc??
I need to know if I buy an AirPort card, will I also have to buy that AirPort Base thing as well?? All this information is becoming overwhelming. Could somebody please try to clairify? We would be eternally greatful! =)
Sorry about your computer, Brad; I know what you're going through. =(

  • Please help - vault on networked drive !?

I am trying to create a Vault on an external networked drive. The drive is an ethernet Maxtor unit which I have plugged into my LAN via a router. I can access the drive in Finder - and can import from, save to etc. in all applications (including Aperture).
I can mount and navigate to it in the Add Vault dialog, However, when I click "Add" I get the message:
"Aperture does not support networked vaults. Please select a directly attached storage device (such an an internal, USB or FireWire - connected hard drive."
I thought this was being fixed. It seems ludicrous not to be able to vault to a networked drive. Help !!!
    Paul

I had (or rather has the same problem). I also have a Maxtor Hared Storage Plus and was quite surprised to find that Aperture did not supported a network drive for vaults. I then created a drive on a USB drive I have and then tried to copy the Vault file to the Maxtor. Then the next problem occurred. The Maxtor did not support the Vault file. I think this is because the Maxtor is formatted in FAT 32 and as such it cannot accept files larger then 4 Gb. My Vault file is bigger then that so ….
I now have the following set up:
MBP with a Lacie firewire drive attached to it. On the Lacie I have all my pictures. Then I have another USB drive which I use for the Vault files. The Maxtor is used in the home network for the family to back up their files such as the iTunes library etc.

  • Please help with local network

I have set up local networks but this one is not working. I am trying to network two computers at my house. One says the address is cindy@localhost but when I use this address it says "This file server is running on your machine. Please access the volumes and files locally."
I am networked through an airport express and two routers (linksys and dlink). What does "localhost" mean? Why don't I get IP addresses like on other networks I have established elsewhere? Thanks.

If the machines stay on your network, you can also assign static IP addresses to the computers. They need to be in the same subnet that the router is using, but not be in the range of addresses the router is assigning via DHCP.
E.G. If the router starts assigning addresses at 192.168.1.100 and is allowing up to 50 users, the last address is will hand out is 192.168.1.149, so you can use 192.168.1.149 - 192.168.1.255 for your computers. It may be possible to use more depending on your subnet mask, but that range will always work.
You assign the address is the Network system preference on the TCP/IP tab for the interface (Ethernet or Airport) you are using. Switch from DHCP to Manual and enter the same subnet mask and router IP that are being automatically provided right now and enter a manual IP address from the range for your router.
If your computers move to other networks, you can specify this network as a new Location and would only have to switch locations to switch between DHCP addresses and the manual addresses for this network.

  • Please help! Wireless keyboard..

I just got my wireless keyboard for iMac. Bluetooth finds it, but for some reason can't connect.. Here is a screenshot:
    http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/5118/picture2hc7.png
What can I do to fix this?

I have a Mac G5 dual 2 GHZ with built in bluetooth (that works fine with a Targus bluetooth mouse as far as ten feet away) with OS 10.5.2. Just got a Mac Wireless Keyboard. Computer can not find the keyboard, if it finds (that is just sitting physically on top of the tower), keeps losing connection. Help. This is the first apple wireless procuct I am trying to use and am not even sure if the tiny green dot for power is supposed to stay green, blink or turn off. On one occasion when I got a successful connection, the battery status was showing all solid green in the status window. The batteries are the one that came with the keyboard purchased today.
I also have not been able to synchronize my Motorola Razr phone despite getting it paired. Any ideas.

  • PLEASE Help on two network cards in server

    Hi all,
    (Sorry my spelling Im danish)
We have a 10.4.5 server with 2 network cards in it. How does I get the server to route betwin the two networks so that mac's on net 1 (en0) can see mac's and printers on net 2 (en1) and visa versa
The mac's on net 1 can see and use the server (but not print on net 2) The mac's on net 2 cant see or use the server!
The mac's on net 1 get backuped by Retospect on the server. Retospect can't see the mac's on net 2
How does I get this to work?

    "sudo sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=1"
That will start forwariding immediately but woun't survive a reboot.
In Tiger Server Admin NAT setup you can make this permanent by choosing "start Ipforwarding Only".
(Or by adding a line to /etc/hostconfig:
    IPFORWARDING=-YES-
Or by adding a new file /etc/sysctl.conf
    with this line in it:
    net.inet.ip.forwarding=1)
"Devices on each network need to know how to get to the other network, and that's usually done by editing the routing table on each system."
Not necessary. What's necessary is a static route in each Internet router that use the server IP for each LAN as the gateway/router for the other LAN.
    Example network 1: 192.168.100.0/24
    Internet router 192.168.100.1
Server IP for that LAN 192.168.100.254
Static route in Internet router: 192.168.200/24 gw 192.168.100.254
    Example network 2: 192.168.200.0/24
    Internet router 192.168.200.1
Server IP for that LAN 192.168.200.254
Static route in Internet router: 192.168.100/24 gw 192.168.200.254
"In addition it's not common for a printer to have an option to manipulate the route table in this way"
Correct, but you need to add the correct gw/router and netmask to the printer IP settings for this setup. This is sometimes achievable via Telneting to the printer in question to set it up (older Apple printers).
For performance reason it could be better using a static route in each machine if the internet router doesn't send out route redirect packets.
Some DHCP servers should be able to send out a static route to it's clients with the rest of the IP info thus making it easier to provide each machine with a static route.

  • Please help about OVM network configuration

I have ready RAC OVM templates and below is the instructions.
Can someone explain this to me?
I want to create a OVM server and OVM manager on virtualbox. But I couldnt und network configurations.
Following are the non-standard requirements for your OVM setup:
The VMs must be able to interact with the OVM server (Dom0) at IP address 192.0.2.1
The OPVM server (Dom0) must supply NTP and DNS services to the DB VMs
The OVM server must be configured with 3 virtual bridges (virbr0, virbr1, virbr2) to support the different Database Machine networks.
Here are some notes, assumptions and requirements associated with these VMs:
    1. The public network interfaces on all the VMs occupy addresses in the 192.0.2.X range. The private storage network and cluster interconnect on all the VMs occupy addresses in the 192.168.1.X range.
    2. All the VMs assume access to NTP and DNS services provided by servers at 192.0.2.1. One way to provide these services is to configure a bridged network interface on 192.0.2.1 under Dom0 and to configure NTP and DNS services on Dom0. Another way is to create an additional VM with a primary network interface on 192.0.2.1 which offers the required services.

I have 16gn memory on my laptop and I want to create an OVM server and OVM manager on virtual box. Is it possible?
Then I will import some OVM templates to that system.
No - not possible using Virtualbox - as noted, OVM and Virtualbox are different technologies and an OVM install will destroy the native OS.
I believe you are confusing technologies and terms. If I understand your needs, you are wanting to install Virtualbox on your OS, then create VMs using Virtualbox and/or import Virtualbox VM templates. Note that Virtualbox VM templates are different than OVM VM templates - the latter can only be installed on OVM Server.

  • WRT54G wireless network gone totally wacky! please help.

I called linksys tech support and they were of absolutely no help. the wireless network was working fine until about an hour ago when my roomate connected her computer to the network. the network was previously configured through windows...but when she connected her computer she connected through her linksys wireless card (which i don't have on my computer.) Somehow in doing this she reconfigured the entire network...entirely new name etc. Now my computer can't connect to the network...I can see it on my list of wireless networks, but the password I was using previously to connect is not working. I get the error message "The network password needs to be 128 bits or 256 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 8 to 63 ascii characters or 64 hexadecimal characters" I have no idea what that even means. How do I get my original network back so I can reconnect my computer?!

Its doubtful that just by connecting to your router, your roommate caused this problem with your router.
What version of the router do you have?  Some of the WRT54G routers have an SES (Secure Easy Setup) button.  If you push that button accidentally, you will reset your wireless security to a new password.
Were you using wireless security?  If so, which type?  WEP, WPA, or WPA2?
Did you give your router a unique SSID, or are you still using "linksys".  If you are using "linksys", are you sure you are trying to connect to your own network, and not your neighbor's network?  Did the SSID of your router change from what you set it to before?
To correct your problem, point your browser to 192.168.1.1 and login to your router with your user name (if any), and password.  Then go to the "Wireless" tab, "Basic setup" subtab, and correct any entries that are wrong.
Then go to the "Security" tab, "Wireless Security" subtab, and correct any entries that are wrong.
    Reboot entire system.

  • Unable to connect to Office Wireless Network (802.1x) after Windows Update

Hi, my notebooks are on Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit. We have only recently started Windows Updates.
We are on a Wireless network 802.1x.
In the past, we are able to do the following steps :
    1. Open the "connections are available" window by clicking on the wireless icon (signal bars with yellow sun)
    2. Right click on the desired network and choose properties
    3. Change settings (eg. MEAP or use local Windows credentials etc)
    4. Click connect to connect
Now, from the "connections are available" window, when we right click on the desired Network, only "connect" is shown.
In this case, I cannot connect to the network as the settings are wrong, if I cannot connect to the network how do I change the settings ?
    Please kindly advise

    Hi,
    I agree with britishdhez.
In addition, I would like to confirm which update caused this issue. Is it a driver update? I suggest installing driver update from the manufacturer's website.
You can also reinstall the wireless driver:
    a. Click Start, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Search bar and press Enter.
    b. Expand "Network adaptor".
    c. Right click on your network card and then click Uninstall
    d. Remove the driver software at the same time.
After that, restart the computer and reinstall the network card driver.
Meanwhile, you may run the Network troubleshooter to see if it can help diagnose and solve your problem:
Using the Network troubleshooter in Windows 7
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-sg/windows7/using-the-network-troubleshooter-in-windows-7
Also, please remove the wireless network profile for a test.
    Delete a profile
    At the command prompt ( Win+ R-->CMD ), type:
    netsh wlan delete profile name="ProfileName"

The TC is serving as our time machine as well as our wireless router. We lost power in a storm a week ago and can no longer connect to my wireless network I can see the network and sign into it via password, but cannot connect with any device(iMac, MacBook, iPhones, iPod touches, air tv, etc.). ALL of these devices worked gat before the power went out. I reset both modem and TC and still can't connect. I can connect to the Internet through Ethernet cord directly from the modems dn have confirmation(per Comcast service) that the Internet is working and we have a good connection.
The TC is less than six months old so I'm not sure what is wrong. I have reset settings with TC to no avail. I have reset the TC SEVERAL times and have no idea what could be wrong and what is prohibiting me from connecting. Anyone that has ANY suggestions or ideas as to how to fix this, PLEASE HELP!!!  I'm going crazy using iPad 3G and not being able to connect to our wifi. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND I LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING BACK TO THE 21ST CENTURY!

Anyone have any ideas or information to help with this?  Any help and consideration is MUCH appreciated.
