Please help: installing FP 10.3.183.90 on iMac 10.5.8
Attempting to download Flash Player 10.3.189.90* on an iMac using Leopard (10.5.8); after multiple tries, have gotten to a point at which clicking the Install icon opens a window asking if I want to install (considering this a victory; something is happening, at least!); then, when I choose Open, it immediately “quits unexpectedly” and offers me the chance to relaunch. So I relaunch, choose open, and it quits (not so) unexpectedly again. (Rinse and) repeat, presumably ad infinitum. Help? (prefer to stay with 10.5 rather than move to 10.6)
*computer owner clicked on general software update without paying attention, after which there were problems with YouTube videos that had not been there previously (video area shows “missing plug in”, which changes to request to load most recent Flash Player—but the Intel iMac is running 10.5.8, with which the owner, not a computer expert, is comfortable; he prefers NOT to go to 10.6—how can we just restore what was?) (Library contains a Flash plug-in dated Oct. 5, 2013; removing it form the Library folder did nothing.)
I wasn't trying to be insulting. The REALITY of the situation is this:
OS 10.5.8 was the ONLY "Universal Binary" OS Mac EVER Released, and they ONLY did so because they were in a transition from PowerPC processors, to Intel. PowerPCs ran hot and IBM REFUSED to make the necessary changes to them so that they could keep up with changes in technology that were necessary for Apple to stay competitive in the marketplace. Thus the switch to Intel (faster and cooler) processors, which allowed Mac to become the dominant force in computing they are today, but then you probably KNOW all that already.
Unfortunately, there were a lot of people who still had PowerPC Macs in 2005 and they wanted the latest OS for them so Mac made 10.5 a "Universal binary" as a concession. It was NEVER intended to be a "lifetime OS, because it was meant to run on an architecture that Apple was going to abandon, which they did in 2009. Thery no longer support ANYTHING Power PC - hardware or software. There are people who paid thousands of dollars for Final Cut video editing software for OS 10.5 and if something goes wrong with it, you know what Apple tells them? "Buy a new Mac and get the new "Intel" version of FInal Cut, but we won't lift a finger for it on THAT system."
Backward compatibility has nothing to do with this. Providing backward compatibility for OS 10.5 now would be NO DIFFERENT than developing new software for OS7. They aren't going to do it - NOT because they want to force everyone to buy a new Mac, but because the architecture that the OS was designed for is obsolete and they no longer support it because it HASN'T been manufactured in EIGHT years. It's gone the way of VHS, phonograph records and 8 track tapes.
THAT's what I meant by reasonable, logical and sane regarding the upgrade. Trying to force the entire computing world to "time warp" back eight years because a user is too stubborn to upgrade is unreasonable. Expecting that ANYTHING in computing will remain current, or updatable for eight years or more is illogical, and demanding companies invest hundreds of thousands of dollars to continue support for obsolete hardware and OS's when there's a $20 upgrade that will eliminate the problem... is anything but sane.
As far as upgrading from 10.6.8 to 10.8... it's NOT as simple as one might think. There are ONLY so many Macs that will run the OS, and THAT'S no different than Windows. A six-year-old PC isn't likely to handle WIndows 8 or even 7.

Can anyone please help? Every time I start up my imac OSX 10.6 desktop my Aperture 3 programme opens up without being requested. Is it possible to stop this happening and only allow Aperture to open by using the desktop icon? Thank you for any assistance anyone may be able to give.

William's solution was much easier - just for completeness sake: The preferences panes to edit your startup items moved between the Mac OS X updates: I forgot that the "Users&Groups" preference pane used to be called "Users" in Mac OS X 10.6; it is the panel that you use to create new User accounts; and earlier systems had a separate preferences panel "Login" to enable and to disable the applications that are launched at login. Both are now combined in "Users&Groups". Sorry for sending you on a wild goose chase with the wrong Preferences panel.

PLEASE HELP! How can I tell if my Imac has been hacked? I see a few people have asked this question but the responses tended to be advice on what to do once you've been hacked, not what can done to find out if you have been hacked. I have a late 2012 model imac. My sharing was off and remote logging was off. I use an external router that send wireless to about 4 consoles in the flat. I don't think I have any firewalls up (now looking like a mistake). I think I'm possibly being hacked due to abnormal behaviour and most recently my camera was turned off all day (no LED) then I went to record something on Photo Booth, the application popped up displaying an image of me getting dressed (nightmare!) which happened hours earlier when the camera was off. This image quickly then disappeared and the camera began working normally. Very strange and alarming. Please help me. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
Paste into the window of another application.
Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Please help installing solaris 10 -x86
Hello, Im a total newbie to solaris, can someone please help me installing?
I download solaris-10 x86 and I joined the 5 iso files and burnt the dvd, it appears to be OK, but when I boot the dvd all I get is the command line
GNU GRUB Version 0,95 Grub>
according to the installation notes it is supposed to boot into a menu which allows various installation choices.
How can I start the installation from the command line? or is there something missing from the dvd?
the dvd has 20,023 files) (44,216 folders) (size on disk 3,57GB)

Please help -installed update from itunes wiped my phone
I just installed an update on itunes and it must have done some sort of factory reset as it wiped everything including my contacts from my phone. I plugged it in again to see if it could install a back up and I can't find anything. Also, it started 'backing up' the new empty phone and asked me to register it.
Please help anyone- I had a lot of music and expensive aps on there not to mention contacts and diary entries. I never had problems with it before but this is an absolute nightmare.

I boot from CD run through the sun boot part ok.
Then i select to boot from my CD at the end. THis works fine.
It then starts to load sunOs 2.8 but restarts very shortly after and does'nt give me a chance to read error message.
I tryed loads of different configs with no sucess Please help.
The system i run is a p4 wit intels G850GB Mainboard geforce2, 128MB PC 800P4, seems not supported yet. Try to look into the

I know this topic has been posted before and I have read all the reviews but still nothing ..
I m trying to install a new hd. I put the screws where there needed to go, plugged in all appropriate SATA plugs into new HD, went to dicl utility and no new HD shows up to initialize or format. Please help me .. I have purchased a 500 gb Seagate HD from ramjet.

I have installed and uninstalled the new HD about 5 times already. Please help meOn older ATA drives there are little plastic tabs that, depending on configuration, designate a drive as "Master" or "Slave." If both drives are configured as "master" it can sometimes cause one not to be seen by the computer.
I only mentioned it because:
A) I had it happen 2x with my old G4.
B) Most new drives are shipped with the jumpers in "master" position, I'm guessing because they assumed most people were replacing their primary drives, not adding them.

I had a working demo version of CS3 on my laptop, this was uninstalled with no errors, when it expired my company purchased a full copy, now when I try to install it only the sub applications load not the actual CS3, the installation bar shows installing shared applications and at the end it says shared apps installed but CS3 failed with a red cross.
Nothing has changed on my laptop since it was last working

On a HP Elitebook 8440p
Plenty of memory and storage space
I have also tried to install a demo version again and get the exact same problem
Please can someone help as I need this for my work, my own help desk can not come up with a solution apart from telling me they can try a re-build of my laptop, I think not...

Creating a new local admin user and installing the app, same problem
Checked the directory in c:\programe files after uninstalling and it is empty
Re-installed in a new folder directly off of the root, same problem
Started the service FLEXnet Licensing Service and re-installed the app, same problem

If I now try to install it again the extraction box disapears and then nothing happens, I also see now a bigger list of Adobe products in add remove programes but they can not be removed, no uninstall button next to it.
Any ideas before I give in to my help desk and let them re-build my laptop

PLEASE HELP: installing my Soundblaster Audigy LS-soundcard with the latest hardware(bundle)drive
Problem:
I have a Soundblaster Audigy LS Soundcard in one of my PCI slots (I already tried the other slot with the same result). I run Windows XP professional SP2.
When I install the hardwaredriver-bundle version: Sound Blaster Audigy LS .04.0055, I have no problem, but when I install version .0.4.077 (in this example: or I install version 055 or I install version 077), I have the following problem: (through Control Panel) in system properties/hardware/device manager, I find PCI Device listed in " other devices " with a black exclamationmark in a yellow circle, while the SB Audigy LS is listed in the group " sound, video and game controllers ". The soundcard works, which is great but why is the exclamationmark showing? I already tried a different PCI slot, IRQ assignement in BIOS, but is still shows. The strange thing is, if I install first version 055 and then version 077, the problem is gone. A new problem that occurs if I do so, is that the PC hangs when starting Windows (but I'm not sure if that has to do with the fact that I install version MediaSource 5 Player-Organizer 5.20.23 over version 5.0.38, just to keep the MediaSourceGo! Toolbar (because it's no longer part of the softwarebundle version 20.23 - which has been confirmed by the support of Creative), the same with version of CD Burner Plugin 5.0.44 over 5.0.3 because it's not really clear on the website, if you need the previous version or if it's a full "update"). Please URGENT (with detailed info on every explained problem/issue - so I can try to resolve it) help.

Please Help Installing Printer
so this summer i purchased an HP4140 printer which is said to be capable of running with Tiger 10.4.x. I tried to install the software and all i got was an error message. I contacted Hp and they said the problem was not on their side. So i went out and bought an EPSON stylus (something) and when i went to install, i also got an error message and it said the installer appeared to be damaged. I am now really needing a printer to get ready for Senior Portfolios, college, etc. Can someone please tell me how I can get some type of printer to install without me having to go to the Apple store and pay a tech there to do it for me?

the drivers provided may be older than your system. OS 10.4 has most of the popular printer drivers already installed. Just go ahead and try to "add printer" in the printer setup utility. Your printer may show up there.
