Please help iPhoto library problems - faces, facebook etc.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong but iPhoto 09 has never worked very well for me. When I first started to use iPhoto 09 I went through my library to tag everyone so they came up in the faces thing. I had to add lots of missing faces because it didn't detect many. Then it merged lots of the faces together under one face name and also lost most of the ones I had tagged. I was really annoyed because this took me ages and I read on the forum that others were having problems so I decided to leave it for a while. I also had a huge problem uploading to facebook. When I made an album to upload it would start but then my internet would go off and then iPhoto just crashed. Whenever I touch any of the facebook albums iPhoto just crashes. After a couple of updates I started to think these features might be working better so I decided to sort out my library. I started to sort out the faces thing where they different people had been merged. I went through and added lots of missing faces. When I went back to check these photos the names I had added disappeared from the photo. I tried about 10 times and each time they disappeared on the same photos. Facebook was still crashing so I deleted all of my facebook albums which took ages because it kept crashing. Now it has duplicated an event and put it under a blank name and a different date. When i try to delete the photos they stay there and when I try to merge the folders that are the same, another event gets put in the folder of the same date, creating different duplicates. I don't understand what i'm doing wrong and I'm so scared of losing photos and all of the things like dates and order etc. Can anyone tell me why i'm having all of these problems? I think i need to rebuild my libary but I don't know how and i'm scared of losing photos or dates, or names or places or faces. Sorry such a long post, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
It's likely that your Library database has been damaged in all the crashing.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I have on my MacBook both iPhoto and Aperture and want to purchase iPhoto for iPad. If I do so, will I be able to see all my MacBook iPhoto progress (places, faces, events, etc) on the iPad app ? Via icloud or some other feature tht work like PhotoStream?
If I do so, will I be able to see all my MacBook iPhoto progress (places, faces, events, etc) on the iPad app ?
just some notes in addition to Ralphs answer: Your iPad is very useful to browse and show off your photos, i.e. the Retina iPad. You can sync to the iPad via iTunes or using the Photo Stream or a shared Photo Stream. But if you can browse and store all your photos on the iPad, will depend on the available storage on your iPad. Using iTunes you can sync events, albums, faces stacks, places stacks to your iPad. Not many metadata tags will transfer however.
See the iPhoto help on what iPhoto can actually do:

Please help with slideshow problems!
Am using Photoshop Elements 8 and trying to make a slideshow. Have tried 4 times now and keep ending up with same problem, cannot reopen project to continue edititing. Won't show up in orginizer and when I find on harddrive and try to open get message " wmv file cannot be opened". How can I save a
slideshow inprogress and be able to reopen and continue to edit and make slideshow? I want to thank anyone who can help me with this in advance as I
have gotten so frustrated that I want to just scream.
ThanksThanks for the help, thought I had done so but maybe not. Anyway will have another go at it, now may I ask another
question? I am trying to add audio to slideshow. I have some music I purchased thru amazon as mp3 files but I get
message no codec and when I try to add wmv I get same message. What type of file do I need and how can I add
multiple songs to one slideshow. I have one little wmv file that will go in, but it just replicates itself multiple times until
it fills slide show.
Thanks again, sorry to be a bother, but this thing is driving this old man crazy.

Subject: Please help with slideshow problems!
You need to save the slideshow project in order to be able to go back later and make changes or additions to an existing slideshow . The wmv file is a final output format.
Now you are most probably using only the Output command: that is what makes the wmv file.
You should also do the Save Project command. (and I make it a practice to do the Save Project command before I do the Output command).
If you look at the Elements Organizer 8 Help, there is a topic on "Create a slide show".
-- Very close to the beginning of that topic is a screen shot of the Sldie Show Editor screen,
-- The bar below the usual menu bar is labeled with a "B" and called the Shortcuts bar.
-- The 1st entry on that Shortcuts bar is "Save Project"
It is the Save Project command that saves the information about which photos, audio, etc you placed in that specific slide show so that you can come back again to do subsequent editing. Save each Project with a unique name.
After completing the Save Project command, you shoud see an "icon" in the Organizer for that slide show.
Note: you must also keep the photo files and audio files which you have used in this slide show: you can't delete them because the project file does NOT contain a copy of the photos, it only has the identification and folder location of the photo and audio files.

[ETL]Could you please help with a problem accessing UML stereotype attributes ?
Hi all,
Could you please help with a problem accessing UML stereotype attributes and their values ?
Here is the description :
-I created a UML model with Papyrus tool and I applied MARTE profile to this UML model.
-Then, I applied <<PaStep>> stereotype to an AcceptEventAction ( which is one of the element that I created in this model ), and set the extOpDemand property of the stereotype to 2.7 with Papyrus.
-Now In the ETL file, I can find the stereotype property of extOpDemand as follows :
s.attribute.selectOne(a|a.name="extOpDemand") , where s is a variable of type Stereotype.
-However I can't access the value 2.7 of the extOpDemand attribute of the <<PaStep>> Stereotype. How do I do that ?
Please help
Thank youHi Dimitris,
Thank you , a minimal example is provided now.
Version of the Epsilon that I am using is : ( Epsilon Core 1.2.0.201408251031 org.eclipse.epsilon.core.feature.feature.group Eclipse.org)
Instructions for reproducing the problem :
1-Run the uml2etl.etl transformation with the supplied launch configuration.
2-Open lqn.model.
There are two folders inside MinimalExample folder, the one which is called MinimalExample has 4 files, model.uml , lqn.model, uml2lqn.etl and MinimalExampleTransformation.launch.
The other folder which is LQN has four files. (.project),LQN.emf,LQN.ecore and untitled.model which is an example model conforming to the LQN metamodel to see how the model looks like.
Thank you

Please help, Iphoto crashes when trying to update my iphoto library
i recently upgraded my operating system to Lion OS x 10.7.3, and I bought the IPhoto 11' (9.2.1) from the app store. Now it crashes when I try to open after telling me it needs to update my library (version 8.1.2). It starts updating, but then crashes. I have tried rebuilding my library with IPhoto Library Manager, so I can get the program to work with this, but it also crashes in the attempt to rebuild. I can open the program with an empty library, but then I can't get to my old photos. I have also reinstalled Iphoto, without this helping. And I have tried to find these "receipts", and have deleted these. I also have deleted the QuickTime 7, which I still had, and I'm now only running the QuickTime Player 10.1. Now I have to ask you for help. Here is a copy of the first part of the crash report:

IPhoto deleting albums from Facebook, etc., etc.
So. I was trying to upload an album to Facebook. Now iPhoto is in permanent freakout mode. It sends me numeros, repeated messages that an album I created on Facebook has been deleted. And some of the names of these albums are ones which I did send to Facebook but the others are albums i created exclusively for iPhoto. I can no longer get iPhoto to shut down without force-quitting.
My Mac knowledge is limited and I need help. I have a feeling this is the long dreaded system crash about to happen. Certainly iPhoto seems to be crashing. It runs slower and slower.
iMac IOS 10.7.5, iPhoto 11 version 9.4.2"permanent freakout mode" is not a condition I've come across.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Hi, Any help would be greatly appreciated as I cannot find any answers in other posts.
The situation: I ran out of space on my Macbook Air, so I copied my iPhoto library (65GB) onto an external drive. Then bought a new iMac and, using iPhoto 11, selected the library from the external drive and imported it into iPhoto. It imported overnight, but 1) ALL events were renamed/recreated -- 2) ALL albums and slideshows are gone --- 3) there are crazy amounts of duplicate photos and events with new event names --- 4) there are new photos in the events from cropped faces of people in other pictures.
How can this be fixed?
Should I re-import the library and use some other method of importing?
This is really important because I have many slideshows and albums of family events, deceased relatives, etc.and, using iPhoto 11, selected the library from the external drive and imported it into iPhoto
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
To move the Library to the new machine simply copy it to the Pictures Folder and open it. That's it. -
Iphoto 11 Problems with Facebook-sync ?
Hi there from Austria,
a few months ago i installed Iphoto 11 and soon after that problems with my machine (Macbook alu, 13,3 late 2008, 2 Ghz C2D) arose.
Iphoto became very slow, also overall performance on my machine degraded. For example browsing the "programs"-folder resulted in spinning ball of death which lasted around 10 seconds...
I couldn't find out what went wrong, after reading some forums about Iphoto 11 I decided to apply some tips
1) set thumbnail size in all albums to predefined size "3"
2) i removed ALL facebook-synced albums from Iphoto11
After those steps Iphoto runs a lot faster and the "programs"-folder behaves like it should.
Anyone with a similar experience ? Anyone could explain what happened there ?
Regards
UliSuggests the main library is damaged.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

IPhoto library problems in Aperture
I made the mistake of importing my iPhoto library to Aperture, about 25,000 photos. I can no longer use Aperture as a result; it always crashes, as it keeps trying to load or update the thumbnails. So I tried deleting my iPhoto library, and all I get is a spinning color wheel which causes me to force quit the app.
Can anyone help me solve this problem?!In the top right corner of the browser is a search box. By default it is set to show unrated or better images. If you click the triangle beside the magnifying glass you'll get a drop down. One of the choices is *Show All*. Select that . You're hidden images should appear.

Please Help! Two problems with my iMac at once a week b/4 finals!!!!
First I'd just like to mention that I have no idea which OS X I have so...yeah, sorry. I was depending on this computer to work for my class finals. Anyway, on with the problems.
My school is getting all new computers next year, so they are selling all of their iMacs for ten dollars each. Like an idiot, I bought one. And...so did my brother. But anyway, I got it home and started it up and all that came up was the traditional BIIINNNNGGGG, a white screen(for a second), then a gray one. This little icon comes up in the middle that you can't click on(the cursor doesn't come up)but it's purple and has a little cartoon face on it. This icon only comes up if you are not pressing any keys or click/moving the mouse.
So I went back to school the next day and asked what was up, and they said that they completely wiped the computer and that I would have to buy new OS X install software. Okay...so I went to my computer teacher and he had a few sets of OS X install software.
I brought it home and turned on my computer. I put in the disk that said OS X Install and it went in. The computer whirred for a bit, then spit the disk back out. So I decided to try a different disk because I thought that maybe the computer already had the contents of that disk on it. I put in the Applications disk, and now it refuses to come out. I have tried plugging the keyboard into different ports(there are two, with two others on the keyboard itself for the mouse) and everything. I looked inside through the little slot(discs go right into the computer-no hard drive or disk tray that slides out) on the front and the disc is spinning but nothing is happening.
Please help me with both my wiped computer problem and my stuck disc problem. I have tried to give as much detail to help anyone who can help me. Please, WHAT CAN I DO?!
iMac Mac OS X (10.0.x) I have an OS X. No idea which one...
iMac Mac OS X (10.0.x) I have an OS X. No idea which one...
iMac Mac OS X (10.0.x) I have an OS X. No idea which one...The full retail install disks are available here and at any Apple Store and many computer retailers. Also, check the system requirements. Be sure your Mac has firewire and enough ram to run Tiger. At this point you might be able to find the disks at a slightly discounted price because of the coming release of 10.5 Leopard. But be sure it is the black disk, boxed version if possible.
EDIT: And the install disc for Tiger is a DVD, so be sure your iMac has DVD.
This may help to narrow down the model iMac you have.

HELP! LIbrary problem!
Can someone please help me! Now when i open aperture the start up screen appears...but nothing else! the correct path is there in the preferences, but the main interface doesnt appear!
OK thanks kgelner, but that doesnt seem to work.
Basically, i tried to import raw nefs from cf card, and the program crashed. I retried a couple of times but to no avail. Now whenever I open aperture, the startup screen apears with copyright info etc, but just hangs and nothing further.
Could it be that I need to rebuild my library? How do I do that? Ive never had any luck being able to do that in the past...
Please someone help!! -
Please Help! Calendar problems :(
Hello there ~
I did a system update the other night and when it was complete, I had to reinstall Facebook. Once I did that, I accidently forgot to un-check the FB calendar (which I realize much too late) and it was causing my today theme calendar appts not to show.
I did a search to see why my calendar appts was not showing, which I ran across a thread on another forum - and it said to delete the CICAL, not the CMIME.. I accidently deleted the CMIME. Someone said to go to BIS and have my service book resent, which would restore the CMIME. I did that, then turned around and deleted the CICAL. Still was having the same problem.
Last night I was trying to figure it out - deleted the Facebook app, trying to select the default calendar.. and it still wouldn't work. When I would add an event - it would do it multiple times, yet still not show my other current events (which is what I am needing it to show!!).
Finally, somone suggested some steps to not only go into the calendar options or the service book - but to go into default services, then pick my default calendar (CICAL). The only "option" that is showing is Facebook and I have no other options. I am guessing that I need my original CICAL restored so I can choose it!! Am I correct?? I seriously wish I would of gotten that info a few days ago BEFORE I deleted my original CICAL!!
Unfortunately - I did not backup anything before I did the service update, which oddly enough caused my assigned ringtones to un-assign themselves.. which I think is strange, but whatever. That is an easy fix, but I desperately need my calendar to show up on my today theme!!
Please HELP!! I really need my calendar to show up on my today theme!!
Thank you!!!!Welcome to the forums
Send service books to the phone by:
1. Logging in to your carrier's BIS site (where you setup your email)
2. Go to Help and click "Send Service Books"
Next, you have to move all your calendar appointments back into your default calendar (whicever one you want it to be). See this KB article, paying attention to Scenario 1 under Resolution: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB19240
Then go back into options>advanced options>default services and set the default calendar to the one you want it to be.
Cheers,
Kijana

Massive iPhoto Library Problems: cannot empty trash or delete photos
I did something really stupid: imported another iPhoto library into my existing one. The latter is now approx 200 GB -- and I think potentially half of it consists of duplicate photos. (I had about 30GB and then imported about 70GB and was shocked to find a new total of double what I expected!)
I have Duplicate Annihilator and I'm thinking of using it to delete the duplicates.
However, I'm unsure whether to use DA yet -- or even at all. This is because iPhoto currently will not let me: (1) delete any photos or (2) empty the (very small) iPhotos trash. If I presist and repreatedly try to empty the trash or delete a photo it finally crashes.
Should I fix the deleting/crashing problem first, before using DA? Or should I not even use DA at all but use a Time Machine backup to restore my original library and then import the other library properly (using perhaps iPhoto Library Manager)?
Basically, I just want to get rid of those tens of thousands of duplicates and reduce the librarty to what should be its genuine (non-duplicated) size of approx 100GB.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Many thanks!
PS. I forgot to add that the rebarbative "Faces" is of course running and I can't figure out how to stop it trying to match 10, 000+ faces. I suppose it could be causing or adding to the problem.
PPS. For those techies who understand such things, here's the crash report (I should stress that I'm not competent and therefore not prepared to use command-line entry in Termminal to fix this):
