PLEASE HELP, Ipod corrupt

I have a whole list of events that happened, but the worst part is, my ipod still will not work with my itunes. Here's my story (i'm trying to put in as much detail as possible for hope that somebody can help):
I have a 30GB 5th generation Ipod video, and I use windows XP. I've had this Ipod for about 2 months and it worked great using Itunes 7.0 and 7.0.1.
I updated to Itunes 7.0.2 and the next time I plugged in my ipod, the itunes didn't recognize it, nor did my computer. I went through a series of steps with an apple agent, including renaming the disk drive letter, and finally my Ipod would be recognized. Everytime the ipod was plugged in however, this "autorun" program began to run. It So eventually when the autorun would stop, it kept saying "This ipod may be corrupt. Restore it, or try disconnecting and reconnecting it". Once I got this message that said "an unknown error has occured [1418]. I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, and nothing seems to work.
So I restored it. And then it restarts, and once again I get the same message over and over again. I keep restoring it and it doesn't work. So the agent told me to send it to apple for repairs.
So apple sends it back saying nothing was wrong with the Ipod. But it still keeps saying it is corrupted on itunes.
So I talk to another apple agent, and we go through another series of steps, and now the Ipod is not recognized by itunes anymore. I downloaded itunes 6.0 which wouldn't work with my existing libraries, so I went back to the original 7.0 and it still doesn't work.
PLEASE HELP ME i'm dying without my ipod!

This program http://www.copytrans.net/doctor.php may fix it up.

    Ok.
This problem first occured when I was trying update my playlist. When i plugged my iPod in it said "Itunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes. You may also try diconnecting and reconnecting the iPod." I tried dis/reconnecting it. I have also tried restoring it. So then I try plugging it in again. I get the same message each time. I thought I could just try reinstalling itunes. When I plugged the iPod in it said like something about not being able to sync because the library was with a new version of iTunes. So then I tried downloading the new version of iTunes and all of its udates. So once again I tried plugging it in and I'm just getting back to where I was. It says the ipod has been corrupted and all that stuff. I'm really tired and stuff. I've searched all the forums and I don't what to do. Help? Is there anyway I could fix this? Do I have to return it or anything?

Hi! I am having a similar problem with my ipod. I have tried numerous solutions, if anyone has any suggestions it would be GREAT appreciated!
I have a fourth generation 40g click wheel ipod.
My ipod started having troubles when I went for a run about 3 weeks ago. It froze, and I let the battery die, recharged it, and it was fine afterwards (it seemed to be functioning for a bit). I played it a couple more times during that week. The next week I was playing (not jogging), and suddenly during one song, it started to freeze. It froze for a second, and then skipped to the next song. It did this continuously, sometimes freezing for a bit then skipping to the next song. It generally playing about 2 seconds of a song, and then skipping to the next. It also started to make weird noises. It sounded like the engine was working hard, then it would stop, then would hum again, in a cycle of humming for about 10 seconds, on second off… etc.
I followed the apple website, and updated my software to iTunes 7.1, and went through the 5Rs. So far nothing has worked. When I get to the “Restore to Factory Settings”, it does not let me do it. The ipod always says “Do not disconnect”, but it takes A VERY LONG TIME to show up in itunes (sometimes it doesn’t show up at all). When it does show up, it makes the weird humming cycle sound for about 10 minutes. Then autoplay goes on for a couple minutes, then finally it gives the option to restore. When I say yes, it gives me one of the three following messages:
“The Ipod software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later.”
“There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod “iPod”. The requested resource was not found.”
“iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod.”
I read up about the problems with itunes 7.1 and restoring, so I followed other people’s instructions and uninstalled itunes 7.1, and reinstalled the itunes software that I received with my ipod. Unfortunately, with this version of itunes, the itunes froze, and it never came up with the option of restoring it. I tried a later itunes version: ipod updater 2006-01-10. Amazingly Itunes didn’t freeze for that long with this version, but it also did not come up with the option to restore.
I am not sure what to do, as it seems I may have two problems, I think that if I can restore my ipod, it should be fine, but since it seems to be basically jammed at the moment, I can’t give it the orders to restore it. It has been this way for about 2 weeks. I’m starting to run out of hope! If anyone has any suggestions, that would be amazing! Thanks a lot!

  • Please help. ipod will not show up and i have tried everything

i got my ipod two days ago. ipod nano 4gb.
when i plug it into my computer it comes up with 'do not disconnect' and occasionally a small circle icon in the top left-hand corner. the computer recognises that there is a 'mass storage device' connected, but the ipod doesnt appear in itunes or my computer.
when i unplug the ipod it displays the apple symbol and then goes to the language selection menu. after i disconnect it i also get a message saying that the file could not be saved to the drive because it was interrupeted or something like that and i should try storing it somewhere else.
so thinking that maybe this was it being updated, i let it plugged in all day while i was at school because surely that would be plenty of time for anything to load onto it. But when i got home today it did the same thing.
I have two computers and the same thing happens on both.
I have tried it using my sisters usb cable, still nothing works.
Any ideas? Oh on one of my computers it doesnt let me uninstall itunes as well.
And when I try to open the updater to restore the ipod it freezes the application and i have to do controlaltdelete and close it.
I am SO angry about it right now.
Since i only bought it a few days ago do you think i could get a repleacement from the store where i got it or will i have to go all the way through apple.
I havnt been able to use it once and it is making me very frustrated, please help me if you have any ideas.

    Sally,
OK since you using 2 computers, we will first focus on the one that will not uninstall iTunes, afterwareds we will get the ipod working on one PC first.
On the PC that will not uninstall iTUnes, goto control panel>add and remove and try if you can to uninstall iTUnes AND quicktime. Then go here and roll down to "Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
Once done disable any antivirus or security programs, then goto apple.com to download and install the latest iTUnes.
Also on BOTH pcs make sure you have "ipod updater 06-28-2006" you can download and install it here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
Once iTunes is properly installed on this PC, you need to only connect your nano to the main PC you use for now so we can get it working, then we'll focus on the other PC if needed

  • Please help - Ipod freezes when playing any video

    Hi
I only got my ipod video a day ago and it wont play any video files. Everytime i go to play a video it freezes and just shows a black screen. I have tried downloading a music video from the itunes store and this wont work either. When i first got it i did play one video, im not sure if this was before i updated the firmware though?
I cannot figure out how to reset the firmware if this is what i need to do?
I would really appreciate some advice.
    Thanks in advance.

I just got my iPod like two months ago and it wouldn't play any video podcast until I downloaded the new iTunes software. Now it plays some video podcasts but not all. I tried to watch some new podcasts I had downloaded from iTunes and it would play some of it then just freeze and make these wierd sounds. I tried again and it totally froze where I couldn't do anything, not even turn it off. It stayed that way until the battery was completely drained then it turned itself off later that night. The next morning I charged it up and it worked fine but I still can't watch those podcasts. Please help, cause this thing is pretty much brand new and for the amount of money I spent on it I don't want it to start giving me problems after only two months.

  • PLEASE HELP - Ipod Showing In My Comp But Not Itunes Etc

    Hi there
Can someone PLEASE help me! I am at my wits end with my Ipod.
A few weeks ago I was in the middle of listening to a song and my ipod crashed then switched itself off. Ever since then I haven't been able to get it to connect to Itunes or the Updater and it won't play anything.
When I switch the ipod on I get various errors ranging from the unhappy ipod to the folder with the exclamation mark.
When I connect my ipod to my pc an autoplay window appears and sometimes I get an error saying the drive my ipod is connected to isn't formatted.
So far I have tried the following
    Reinstalled Itunes
Going into Disk Management and changing the Drive the ipod uses
    Reset The Ipod
    Tried Using Another USB Port
Put the Ipod Into Disk Mode
Nothing Works! After I changed the drive the ipod uses things looked promising. The Ipod was detected by the updater and it was started to restore the ipod however after a few minutes the ipod seemed to lose the connection and I got the error with the Battery icon.
    Can someone please help me!

"my dad pressed view and then he chose the 3rd picture thing and songs went into."
Sorry, I don't know what that means.
Have you had a chance to look through these?
USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date.
iTunes 7 doesn't recognize the iPod.

  • Please Help- IPod Classic and Mac/Itunes

    Hi all,
I'm new here because I have a bit of a problem. Please forgive me for my lack of general computer/Ipod knowledge...
I purchased my MacBook about 4 1/2 years ago. I'm not sure exactly what model I have, but the age should help you determine that.
I also purchased my Ipod about 5 years ago. I think it's the first "video" Ipod that came out. It's 40 Gig, white, and pretty basic.
I've taken exquisite care of my Ipod because I'm just interested in putting my new CD's on it, and taking it with me in the car so I don't have to lug around 40 CD's all the time.
Anyway, for the last 2 years or so, my process of putting new music on my IPod was as follows:
    1. Open Itunes
    2. Import CD
    3. Hook Ipod up to the USB port (my Ipod is not synched)
    4. Click and highlight the new CD and drag it to my Ipod
    5. After updating, disconnect my Ipod
    6. Delete CD off of Itunes libary
This has gone off without a hitch for quite some time.
The other day, I went through this exact process, as I've purchased a new CD, but I had an issue.
After I plugged my Ipod in, Itunes recognized it, as usual. But, on the Ipod screen, it continued to flash "do not disconnect." After a half hour of waiting, it didn't go away. I tried to drag the new songs to my Ipod like usual, and then disconnect, but to no avail.
In the past, when I hooked up my Ipod, after about 20 seconds, the "Do Not Disconnect" screen would disappear, and take me to my main menu (on the Ipod).
Now, that screen doesn't turn off, and I can't get new songs onto the device.
Please help...I'm not very good with any of this, and would very much like to hear my new music.
    Thanks for your help!
    Jeff

hold the menu and middle buttons down together until the screen on the ipod goes blank. that restarts it then try your normal process again

  • Please help, iPod Nano and iTunes issues

    1. I can't update my iPod Product Red. I've downloaded the update, and when I click "update" in iTunes, it just sits there for hours saying its updating
    2. The first time I start windows, connect my iPod Nano and then start iTunes (or even the other way around, start itunes then connect ipod), my nano doesn't show up in itunes. I need to restart the service after plugging in the nano every single time!
    3. I cant restore my iPod Nano either, the same problem with the updating my ipod, the progress screen just goes back and forth for hours without doing anything, infact my nano just seems like it looses synch during both an update and a restore, because the do not disconnect message on the screen goes away once either update or restore process is started.
Please help! This is my first ipod purchase and so far it is really disappointing me and frustrating, thanks

    Hi Mike_200207,
Does it work if you manually manage your iPod's music?
To switch to that setting, click on your iPod in the Source List of iTunes, and go to the "Music" tab. Deselect the "Sync" option, and click on "Apply" in the bottom-right corner of this iTunes screen to save your settings.
Then, in iTunes, click on your iPod's "Music" section. Manually select all of the songs, and delete them off of your iPod. Then eject/disconnect the iPod from your computer.
Now, connect it back to the computer again, and try to manually transfer all of your iTunes library songs to your iPod (to do that, select all of the songs, and drag them to your iPod's name in the Source List of iTunes).
After the songs have loaded to your iPod, you can eject/disconnect it again, and see if all of the songs that you transferred appear on the iPod.

  • Please help ipod not formatting

    please help
going on long trip, want to use ipod for first time
when insert ipod cd, asks to connnect ipod, recognizes ipod
attached using USB2.0, says needs format, click on format, just sits there with blue bar scrolling left to right while saying waiting for ipod, and does not let you click on back button format button, or cancel button
so close window and window behing which couldn't see before says enter serial #, do that goes through rest of installation, then if plug in ipod, windows recognizes it but itunes doesn't, also when using ipod updater says plug in ipod so i do but never allows me to click update or restore
problems probably all related to formatting issue
have tried several solutions suggested on web but none work
    so disappointed
    appreciate any help

The best way is to restore the iPod Updater (latest version please)instead of formatting, unless your iPod could not get recongized by your PC. I will try to put it in Disk Mode (press "Select"+"Play" keys) and connect with your PC, open your iTunes and hope that you can see your iPod's icon in it, then open the iPod updater and do a restore.
If you still cant solve your probelm, someone in this forum suggested to do a chkdsk.
I got disappointed with the XP, I finally managed to format my iPod using 3rd party software i.e. "Partition Magic" and got it fixed up

I dont know if this will help any, but mine said that also for a while.
But then I realized that since I have it on manual, I have to eject it first.
If you have it on manual, then there's probably a thing in the source section that had the iPod icon with "(wahtever your nname is)'s iPod" and right by that should be an eject looking button.
    click it.
now see if the "Do not disconnect" thing goes off?

  • Please help ipod USB problem or???

Hi, can someone please help me figure out how to get my ipod to work? The model is M9282LL. The ipod itself is working but I can't connect it to my computer to load anything on it. Iread about checking to see whether it's formatted for windows or mac but it doesn't say anything about windows in the screen that it says it would say it on. That said if it was set up for mac the serial number would be the last thing listed on that screen but this lists the serail number then the model number last.
I am connecting it to my USB port(s) using a CTA IP-DOC. It looks like the dock has a led on it but it doesn't light up. It also won't charge when connected through the usb with the dock. It will charge when I hook it to my charger though. Whenever I plug the dock in or plug the ipod into the dock a window pops up saying: "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." I have the latest drivers for my nforce 2 chipset and have service pack 2 installed.
Can someone please give me some advice as to what could possibly be wrong?
    Thank you.

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
