Please help - iPod touch 4g recovery mode loop

Today I decided I'd update my iPod, however once done I got the message 'iTunes has detected iPod in recovery mode, you must restore this iPod before you can connect it with iTunes'. However when I do restore it it also wants me to 'restore and update' and after downloading the update for 15 minutes nothing happens. Everything still stays the same and when I replug my iPod it just wants me to download the update all over again.
This is driving me mad help

Look, calm down, I have been through a boot loop also because I was tampering with something I shouldn't have been while in SFTP... Haha.... All you have to do is put it in DFU mode to restore. First connect it to the PC, open iTunes, then you hold down the sleep button, count to 3, WITHOUT RELEASING THE SLEEP BUTTON, you hold down the Home button and count to 10, then take your finger off of the sleep button and keep holding the home button, then your PC should start downloading the apple recover drivers and iTunes will give you a message prompting you that it has detected an iPod in recovery mode, press restore, and voilla!! DFU fixes just about any problem besides outright smashing your device with a hammer. As an important note, make sure your iTunes is at the current version, as I ran into an error (21) countless times because of an older version.

  • IOS 5 update forced ipod touch into recovery mode which I can't get it out of! Help please!

Hi, I recently updated my ipod touch 3rd gen to ios5 (as prompted by itunes - assumed a standard software update). Immediately afterwards, my ipod went into recovery mode, and initially itunes recognised this and tried to restore it unsuccessfully. Not any more! Now it is either off, or displays the 'connect to itunes' logo when I connect it to the computer via USB lead.
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing itunes but this hasn't helped it recognise the ipod.
I don't think I've managed to go 3 months without having to do something like reinstall the drivers etc on this ipod, don't know why i expected this update to be any different!
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance!

Try disabling all security software and firewalls, then try again.
Or try from a different computer.
This error is a pain in the butt and a new issue, too. I'm sorry.

  • HELP! Need to put iPod touch in Recovery mode...

My brother has an iPod touch (don't know which version but it's about 1 year old) and has forgotten the passcode for it.
Unfortunately, we're now using a new installation of Windows (and hence, iTunes too) so we cannot resore it by plugging into it's "home PC".
I have seen a few tutorials on how to put the iPod in Recovery mode, but none have worked. Does anyone have any suggestions? HELP PLEASE!

Try this program.  There are others too.

  • Help with iPod Touch in recovery mode

I am trying to help my sister with her daughter's iPod touch. The end goal is to update to iOS6. It is a fourth gen iPod Touch. I plugged it into iTunes (iPod was still iOS V4.something or other) and it said there was an update availalbe. I clicked Download and Update. Got a message about the update deleting all the apps since this iPod had been synced with another computer (my sister has a new computer since she last synced the iPod -- the old computer is no longer available). I cancelled out of the update and did a transfer purchases and then backed up the iPod. I then started the iOS 6 update again. It downloaded the update and then it said "backup up iPod." At that point I left so I don't know what happened after that but it is now saying that iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. My question is this: if we let it do the restore (which is the only option), will I be able to go back into iTunes and restore from the backup that I took MANUALLY (not the backup that it did as part of the iOS 6 update)?
    Thanks.
    Lisa

Yes, you will be able to restore from the backup you previously made. See:

  • Help with an iPod Touch in recovery mode?

4th generation iPod touch... So the iPod was running perfectly fine. Today I tried to update the iPod software, but it didn't work. I went online to try to figure out why, and I found that I should try updating the iTunes software, so I did. This update did not work either, and after iTunes showed me a message saying that the update failed, my iPod entered recovery mode apparently. Pressing and holding the top button or both buttons at the same time does no good. I would have tried changing my iPod's drive letter, but I can't even find the iPod in Control Panel to do so. I've since been able to successfully update iTunes to the latest version, but even upon restarting my computer, nothing has changed with the iPod. Is there any hope of saving it without giving in and restoring it? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I recently had a similar problem.  Try disconnecting the cable to the iPod.  Open iTunes and then reconnect the cable holding down the home button.  When this doesn't work (it didn't for me), do a complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes, QuickTime, Bonjour, etc)  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 .  You then should be able to restore the iPod.  After restoring, I had to restore again from my latest backup to get all my apps and data back.  Good luck.

  • How to restore ipod touch in recovery mode with passcode in itunes

    StylStyle
My ipod touch went to recovery mode after I tried to reset its network settings. I tried to connect it to itunes but it does not want to connect because I have a passcode and my ipod touch wont let me enter it so I could unlock it. Can somebody help me please? Thanks so much!

Placing the iPod in DFU mod and then restoring usually resove the passcode problem.

However, you may have othr problems since it went into recovery mode unexpectidly. Try restoring to factory defaults/new iPod if necessary.

  • Ipod Stuck in recovery mode loop and must be restored every 2 days

    Hi everyone,
I have a Fifth Generation Ipod Video 30 Gig that I purchased from an Apple store sometime in july and it has given me nothing but problems. 3 weeks into using it, the ipod tells me that it is in recovery mode and must be restored. I restore it and it continues to give the same message until I finally disconnect it and wait a good 20 minutes before it finally allows me to activate it. A week later, the Ipod needs to be restored again and the same incident occurs. I have changed the drive letter 13 times (currently on letter Z), used every version of itunes (old and new), changed the type of files I upload, etc. but nothing works. The worst part is that after restoring it, the Ipod works for a few days before it relapses again. Worst of all, I use it for less than an hour a day.
I even went to the Apple store after i restored it and the "genius technician" synced my ipod and said there was nothing wrong with the Ipod. I have seen many people in the forums cite hard drive failure as the cause of this problem but I cannot convince the "genius technicians" at the Apple store that this is the problem.
Please help me resolve this frustrated, unwarranted, and expensive problem!!! Your help is most appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Ice

I have tried connecting the ipod via the front and back USb 2.0 jacks on my desktop. I have only one external drive connected to the computer. Doesn't matter whether I remove it or not, the same problem occurs. I do not have a network. My drive letter for the ipod is letter z so it is not disk recognition which is a problem. 1/3 of my music comes from I-tunes, the rest I rip from my Cd's (like Linkin Park, Slipknot, Dir en grey). I only used about 650 MB worth of the ipods 30 gig drive capacity. Doesn't matter which version of the itunes software I use, it gives me the same problem. The recovery loop occured after just after 2 weeks of purchasing it from the apple storeand I took it back with only 12 songs in it. The restored it and 10 days later, the same problem occured. Recently, the ipod has been entering the recovery mode much more frequently prompting me to believe the hard drive is malfunctioning.
I have scanned my computer and the Ipod with everything from Norton, AVG, McCafee, and trendmicro and found no viruses, bugs, worms, etc.
Any suggestions to help me resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ice

    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod touch in recovery mode but there are no backups for the restore

I recently switched from a Mac to a PC. When I connected my iPod touch to the PC, it errored trying to do a backup and no backup was created. My iPod is now in recovery mode and when I try to restore I get this error message: 'The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6).' What can I do?

Did you try to reset the ipod by holding the sleep and home button until you see the Apple logo?
Is your ipod charging if you use the adapter? If yes, charge it and try again to connect in recovery mode.
In order to pass the passcode you'll have to restore your ipod "as new ipod" because the passcode info is saved in your backup. Restoring and backup: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

If anyone can help...you would be saving me!!! I received the Zen Micro as a present last week. I have Windows Millennium. I downloaded all of the software successfully. My device is recognized by my USB, however, the Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer keeps stating that my device is not plugged in. So, I went and used the FAQ section's directions and went into Recovery Mode. Now, since I have not used this MP3 player at all yet, I am stuck in recovery mode. I downloaded all of the recent drivers, jukebox, and firmware to my PC, however, when I try to transfer the files to my Zen Micro, it states that the device is not plugged in. Now I am panicking because it is stuck in Recovery Mode, and I want to transfer my firmware, drivers, etc. Can anyone please help me?? Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 2nd Gen. iPod touch in recovery mode

My fairly new 2nd Generation iPod touch goes into recovery mode almost every week. I'm started to get anoid because if I go on a trip without a computer, and it requires a restore, it's useless.

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? If not, have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if the message keeps reappearing: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore
Towards the end it says "If after restoring your iPod, the message described above reappears, the iPod drive letter may need to be reassigned. See the "Change the Drive Letter" section of this document for steps to assign a different drive letter" which contains a link to this article: Windows confuses iPod with network drive and iTunes may exhibit strange behavior in relation to the iPod.
