PLEASE HELP! iTunes store not working, network connection?

oh-my-gosh, i've been working with iTunes for the last few hours. i cannot figure out what is wrong with this. i've been trying to read the other posted messages but i don't understand what the problem is. every time i go to connect to the iTunes store on iTunes it says that 'iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. make sure your network connection is active and try again later.' i've been waiting pretty patiently, with no results. i'm so frustrated. i can't sign in on iTunes or anything. i'm becoming soooo mad. i just got this for christmas and i'm ticked. someone please help me?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!? i'm desperate!

I know this is not much consolation, but please remember that it's Christmas with all those nice, new iPods, all the people who want to use their iTunes gift cards that Santa put in their stockings, etc. It's called the store servers are on overload & it's going to be tough making a connection the next couple of days. This happens every holiday season, so hang in there & keep trying.

  • ITunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection reset.

    Hi,
I read a bunch of the other posts where people are having a hard time connecting to iTunes. However, this is not a current problem but one that has been occuring for awhile for me (actually my daughter). Either way, I removed and reinstalled iTunes 7.0.2 and I am getting the following message:
iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection was reset.
Make sure your network connection is active and try again.
Well, if my network connection is not active then I wouldn't be able to reinstall iTunes or post this message. Has anyone seen this message prior to everyone getting their iTunes gift cards for X-Mas?
    Thanks!

Hi to all who are having problems...
After some time and visiting an apple store I was able to get this to work. Basically, it has something to do with your Firewall settings. I actually have Panda Software's Antivirus s/w with the firewall protection. Under the Advanced Settings page iTunes was listed as "No Connection". I selected iTunes and then clicked on Remove application. I then tried iTunes store again and it worked. I even went back to my firewall protections and this time when I looked under the Advanced Settings page iTunes is now properly listed as "Outbound (client)".
I won't take all the credit because the Apple Store pointed me to the following page which gave me the hint of checking my firewall protections:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304082
Give this a try and see if this doesn't help.
    Cheers!

  • "Could not connect to iTunes store. Your network connection has timed out"

OK. So my internet is fine as you can tell yet i keep getting the message "iTunes could not connect to iTunes store. Your network connection has timed out".I have tried restarting and the parental control thing as well as the "proxy server" thing, and nothing has worked. I would be very grateful if someone could help me

I've had the same problem for the last two weeks. Finally resolved the issue in Windows 7.
Go to start button, control panel, system & security, windows firewall. On the left side of the box click on "advanced settings." On the left side of the box again click on "Inbound Rules." You should be able to see iTunes under the name category. Make sure it has a green check mark next to it. If it does not, then double click on the name. In the "general" box which comes up open, click "Allow the Connection." That worked for me. Somehow itunes was blocked but now I can access the itunes store again.

I keep getting this error message when I try to log into Itunes, has anyone else seen this error?  If so how did you fix it?
Itunes could not connect to itunes store.  The network connection timed out.  Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, and try again.

Have you disabled any firewall and security/antivirus programs?  This seems to have helped the vast majority of people who have posted the same problem in this forum.

  • When i try to open my itues it says "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The Network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, and try again"

I am having similar issues except that the store starts to load, then stops, then I only get iTunes Store in gray letters on a white screen. I can access playlist and the other stuff. Like flamesgirl, I contacted them and they just keep sending me links of stuff to try which I had already seen on the Apple website and nothing works. I posted the question on another forum I belong to and one responder said her husband was in an Apple store and asked about this problem as he was having the same issue. They said an update would be coming out soon as they were aware of the problem. Who knows.

  • ITunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection...

I was messing around with services and startup items a few days ago to try to get other software to work...I think I might have screwed up iTunes. I can't connect to the store anymore. I get the following error.
*iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection timed out.*
*Make sure your settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again.*
Obviously, my network is working since I'm able to do this, play Warcraft and all sorts of other things. iTunes is the only thing having a problem. I made sure that Bonjure was enabled, but I don't know what other services/startup items iTunes needs. Here's my diagnostic

I have never been able to connect to the iTunes store. I always get the error message that "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection has timed out." I ran the network connectivity diagnostics and the result is pasted below. I connect through a router and I have the firewall in the router turned off. Windows Firwall is turned off and iTunes is a trused site with my other firewall. Does anyone know how to fix this?

What security software are you using?
Norton is particularly prone to blocking iTunes and you have to delete the entry for iTunes in firewal configuration and make a new one with permit all.
If you ever had Norton, it can block iTunes even if you uninstalled it. Norton is commonly preinstalled on PCs and people tend to forget about it. If you have uninstalled Norton your need to use the Norton removal tool to complete the removal.

iTunes doesn't think you are an administrator, it shouldn't matter, but are you using an administrator account.
DO you have parental controls set?
Do you have Web accelerator software?

  • Cannot connect to the iTunes store. The network connection was reset.

My iTunes has been messed up since August 17th. I am getting the error message; "Cannot connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection was reset. Make sure your network connection is active and try again." I am having no issues connecting to the internet or even receiving my podcasts. It just won't download my TV shows or let me shop. I have contacted Hewlett Pack. about this and iTunes/apple. No one seems to have an answer for me. I have disabled my firewalls, norton, done msconfig, allowed iTunes, everything. I am very frustrated and so are others that seem to be having this same problem. We need a genius!! Please help!

I suspect a location-driven problem here. I live in SHanghai, China - as does the poster above! I have this problem on three different computers using three different ISPs.
Anybody got a suggestion? Tried firewalls, turning off virus production, reinstalling iTunes, putting phobos.apple.com and such in the permitted list, all sorts of stuff, to no avail. And Apple help support just bounces me around - I've interacted via email with three people, finally graduated to a real person, and they sent me back to email when the usual "reboot your machine and reinstall iTunes, then turn off virus protection" didn't work.

  • ITunes Store Error Message: "network connection was reset"

I've been having trouble connecting to the iTunes Store since Dec. 25, 2006. The last time I was able to connect to the site was Jan. 2, 2007!
The error message that I have been receiving is: "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection was reset."
Here are the troubleshooting issues that I have already performed.
    1) Ensured that my internet connection was active.
    2) Checked to make sure Windows XP Service Pack Updates were compatible. No problems with the firewall detected.
    3) Have the latest version (7.02.16) of iTunes.
    4) iPod software is up to date.
    5) Ran iTunes diagnostics which states:
    Windows Firewall is on.
iTunes is enabled in Windows Firewall.
Connection attempt to Apple web site was unsuccessful.
    The network connection was reset.
Connection attempt to iTunes Store was unsuccessful.
    The network connection was reset.
Secure connection attempt to iTunes Store was successful.
Does anyone have this problem? Can anyone recommend a solution that worked for them?
    Sony   Windows XP

PS: I also went into Internet Explorer...
Selected Tools, selected Internet options, then selected Advanced Tab
Then I looked for the security section and made sure that SSL 2.0 was selected.
I was still unable to access iTunes Store.
