PLEASE HELP!! KERNEL_TASK IS KILLING ME!
I have been having problems with the kernel_task using up ridiculous amounts of of CPU. It doesn't seem to be a heat problem since it happens mostly when I play videos (streaming) as well as editing video using Adobe Premiere. Please help. I need a functioning Mac Pro to complete everyday tasks as well as work.
Streaming video uses a huge amount your CPU - a fact you can verify by going to your Activity Monitor. This is just your computer doing what it does. As long as you don't see problems with performance or from your monitor, or excess heat, or error messages, this isn't a problem.

Please help before it kills my entire library!
I’m sure this has come up before but I have to ask.
When I add new songs to my iTunes, it will “misplace” older ones and adds exclamation points to them?
At first I thought this was because I had to have my hard drive replaced and it lost the original songs but the more songs I add, the more get “lost” and now its started to affect the songs that I have purchased from iTunes recently so I KNOW its not due to the hard drive replacement. What can I do? Way too many of my songs are exclamationed now. I backed up the list several weeks ago because I had a suspicion this was what was wrong. The weird part is, even though the songs are gone in iTunes, it doesn’t delete them from the iPod. Even if I clear those songs. It will add the new ones just fine, but it won’t delete the old ones. There doesn’t appear to be any rhyme or reason to the deletion of my songs. They just go as I add more. I have 330 songs and 70 of them are exclamationed. I had more but started deleting them before I figured out what was happening. So far, I seems to only happen when I add new music, no matter where its from. It even happens when I purchase from iTunes. Please help before it kills my entire library!
I have an 8 gig iPod so I know its not because its full. Oh, and Im running on an older Gateway, but I can’t even begin to tell you what year or anything and OS is Windows XP Pro. I also have the latest version of iTunes and update regularly. Any other info you need?
I haven’t needed to lately, but Im scared for if I need to restore my iPod. (I have had to do it once before) Im sure that it will delete the songs that have been preserved that were deleted on the tunes. One more thing, it APPEARS to be mixing up the artwork on the iPod itself with other artists. For example, my Kerli artwork is now my Matchbox 20 artwork and so on. That problem is only with a few songs though.
Any ideas? Thanks SO much for trying to help!Check your Preferences > Advanced > iTunes Music folder location to make sure that it is correct. Also, is "Keep iTunes Music folder organized checked"? Have you tried to Consolidate Library? (Note: I'm not saying to do that, yet, just asking if you have.) Have you used Windows Explorer to actually locate your music?
I've seen where iTunes could be "missing" a song but not indicate it with the exclamation mark until some action is attempted -- moving, dragging, playing. For me it would be because I forgot to turn on the external drive where my music is stored. But then, once I mount the drive, I still have to point iTunes to its Music folder again. -
Urgent please help(program to kill running process)
I am trying to execute "alter system kill session '9,32'" from my java program.But the query doesn't seem to get executed.
please help me.
Here is my code.....
package package6;
import java.sql.*;
public class killProcess{
public static void createTable() {
Connection con=null;
Statement st;
try{
String alterSql = "alter system kill session '9,32'";
st = con.createStatement();
st.executeQuery(alterSql);
}catch(SQLException sql){
System.out.println("SQLException se"+sql);
public static Connection getConnection() throws SQLException{
try{
Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
}catch(ClassNotFoundException e){
System.out.println("Class Not Found Exception");
Connection con =DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:abc","system","manager");
return con;
public static void main(String args[]){
dbconn2.createTable();There is a lot of principial mistakes in youp example (I hope it just an example)
1. Never use a sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver in serious application - it is a lot of problems in this bridge. It can be used in tutorials only. You should use JDBC-diver from a manufacturer of your DB (http://industry.java.sun.com/products/jdbc/drivers)
2. NEVER create a staic variables for obtaining a connection - connection is a complicated object with limited lifetime. Connection should be obtained from a spesial pool or DataSource. See http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2EE/pooling/ if you use enterprise-java or http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/Programming/JDCBook/conpool.html for single application (but this is a tutorial only - the code is not work - contact me for obtaining a corrected code)
3. This code is ungrammatical
try{
String sql="alter system kill session '?,?'";
PreparedStatement ps = con.prepareStatement(sql);
}catch(SQLException sql){
System.out.println("SQLException se"+sql);
you should write at least:
String sql="alter system kill session '?,?'";
Connection con = null;
PreparedStatement ps = null;
try{
con = getConnection();
ps = con.prepareStatement(sql);
}catch(SQLException e){
System.out.println("SQLException se"+e);
e.printStackTrace();
}finally{
try{
if(ps!=null)
ps.close();
}catch(Throwable ee){
ee.printStackTrace()
try{
con.close();
}catch(Throwable ee){
ee.printStackTrace()
And whot are you mean in command "alter system kill session '?,?'"
Whot is it '?,?' - may be '?','?'?
You should check syntax of your SQL-instruction.
but your problem is not in Java -
May be syntax of the SQL-command
May be you should use CallableStatement extends of PreparedStatement
It can depend on DataDase.
And don't forget to commin your connection. -
Please help before I kill my computer
Flash player screwed up after AVG malware/virus issue which highjacked my i.e. and caused it to have to operate in safe mode. Have used malware bytes program for the issue and appeared to remove the malware. Now flash player will not work. Have used every microsoft fix it tool to repair internet explorer, windows, used mircrosoft security essentials numerous time for full virus scan, used adobe forum answers and installed flash player with download manager and manually. Still nothing. The program shows in add/remove program menu but not in program files, or add on files in ie, no shockwave program found anywhere. Used kill bit registry fix and still nothing. I am using window 7-32bit, i.e. 8, microsoft security essentials. PLEASE HELP!!!!!! Wife is suffering becasue she cant play her facebook games.
Hi, thank you for that information. I think you're wise in not using a System Restore at this time. With MBAM and MSE running full scans and not finding anything is a good thing.
Now what I'd like you to do is go to this test site and let me know if you can see the Flash Player logo animate(spin).
Also what Flash Player version is Displayed?
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
Do this test with all browsers you may use.
Then using IE, go to Tools, Manage addons and look for "Shockwave Flash Object". Is it Installed & Enabled? Also what version number?
Go to Tools, Internet Options and under the Security Tab, make sure you have it set to Medium for the Internet Zone.
Thanks,

Sony Windows XPHmmm, Wiseguy, what's that scene in Blazing Saddles...? Where the guy holds a gun to his own head and says no one move or the n* gets it.
But let's see if we can get you straightened out.
Let's start with the support page for your computer.
You're going to want the update for the Pioneer firmware. The version of firmware they have here is 1.10 and you're running 1.00.
If that doesn't help, come back and we'll try something else. -
Hi folks! First post here so go easy on the newb...
Our computer got slammed with a virus a few days back and we had to wipe the hard drive and reinstall everything. So we lost lightroom. The original version we had was downloaded to begin with... so the only serial number we had was wiped with the rest of the hd. (bonehead, i know) We do have an upgrade serial number from when we upgraded our lightroom a while back, but it is useless without the "original SN#" which we don't have.
Is there anything we can do?
Thanks!
Daryl & HaleyTime to get paranoid. For the future, backup everything, especially serial numbers and the like. I have a program in which I store all passwords, logins, serial numbers, etc that I need. Of course it is encrypted and it takes a password to get into it, but that is only ONE password. It is a desktop/mobile application, so it gets synced with my phone. (We travel a lot, so I need this information when we travel). All downloaded products and associated stuff live on an external drive and are backed up to another external drive. There is another copy made occasionally that lives offsite. I put a text file in the "products" directory for each program in which I ALSO have the serial number and any additional information about installation -- like what you need to install an upgrade, etc. I have learned to be paranoid through experiences similar to yours...
I do admit though that the companies are getting much better about forgotten serial numbers than they used to be, so it looks like you are saved this time.
I hope you have a copy of the database and the images? The images are truly irreplaceable, and the database is valuable.

MASSIVE OS X Server crashing! Please help me! SMB crashes and kills OSXS
OSX Srvr 10.4.7 on a Mac Pro. I dont know what I did or missed versus every other server I've ever done, but I've got a major problem on my hands. Once a day my users have their access shut off, and i have to re-enable them. Every other morning, smb will crash so hard it kicks everyone off, then workgroup mgr won't respond anymore, and i have to hard power off the computer. This is running my company of roughly 23 users, and this replaced a Windows Server 2003. Not a good impression so far. I have logs I'm happy to post or email to anyone. They're huge, so I've obviously loused something up big time.
We're doing simple Windows file Sharing, Apple File Sharing, VPN, and eventually FTP. It's also running Kerio Mail Server. Someone please help me!
Here are some log examples to start with.

Mac Pro dual 2.66 Xeon Mac OS X (10.4.7)Hi Bill.
First please note:
"servermgr_dns: no name available via DNS for 192.168.200.250
Sep 20 17:54:21 Genesis1 servermgrd: servermgr_dns: no hostname set and unable to detect via DNS, services may not function properly - use changeip to repair"
Your first issue is you need to fix DNS.
Something needs to be providing forward and reverse DNS lookup for your OS X Server.
You might not have known this, but now you do: OS X Server -must- have working DNS. You don't need to run DNS on your OS X Server, but it needs working DNS.
DNS configuration is a bit beyond the scope of this reply, however.
In the meantime, edit /etc/hosts and do not touch any existing entries
but add the following line:
192.168.200.250 Genesis1
and kill -HUP lookupd. If you're not sure how, perhaps just restart the computer.
Next up, edit
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/smbd.plist , adding the line in bold below:
<key>ProgramArguments</key>
<array>
<string>/usr/sbin/smbd</string>
<string>-F</string>
</array>
Of course, the text in the file itself should NOT be "bold" formatted
Be very sure to check the permissions on that file, and to leave them the same, or restore them if they change. It's really best to use nano/vi/emacs to edit the file, if you must use a GUI app, then go with TextWrangler or SubEthaEdit, both of which can be found at versiontracker.com
Let us know how it goes, and I'll send this to your email as well. -
I think the new update for the ellipsis 7 killed my tablet, please help?
I have an ellipsis 7 tablet and yesterday i decided to give it is update. my tablet started to up date and then the screen turned black. when i finally turned off i tried to turn it on, it showed the powered by android screen and then turned black while still lit up. ever since i tried to update it that is all it will do besides show me the battery symbol when i plug it in. Ive have tried everything, charging it, factory reset letting it die completely and trying to reset it, everything. Why has this update killed my tablet and can you please help?
Oh no! That's definitely not good, Krista001. We're here to help out with your Ellipsis tablet. I appreciate all the troubleshooting steps you have done thus far. Just to confirm, the alternate restart method where you hold down the power button for about 15-20 seconds did not restart your tablet like normal either?
If it is still experiencing issues, please reach out to customer service at 1-800-922-0204 for further assistance. You may also send us a DM to if you like. Please accept my Follow request, and then Follow me back. You should now be able to send us a DM.

Firstly CPU fan didnt wanna work when pluged into the cpu socket, the fan 100% works (checked this in another machine). I now have it running of a system fan socket, but thats not the point I paid for it to work, any ideas? Plus there are 2 red lights on the bottom of the DLED.

FROM A DESPERATE, HEARTBROKEN AND WALLET BROKEN 15 YEAR OLD BOEING LUVER!!!!!!If you don't want to do a fresh install, just do a Repair Install:
follow carefully what's below it may well be flaky a clean install is preferable

Upgrade Problems
If you don't want to do a fresh install, just do a Repair Install:
Boot to the Windows CD. Do not press F2 or anything else, just wait until it gets to the point where it is asking if you want to "set up Windows XP now, Press Enter" or "Repair a Windows XP Installation Using Recovery Console".
Do NOT choose Recovery Console. Instead, choose to Set up Windows XP now.
On the next screen, it will ask you to choose "R" to repair the current Windows XP installation. **Do NOT press escape because that will install XP clean**. Instead, choose R to repair the current XP installation.
Follow the prompts to repair your XP installation.
Warnings:
1) A Repair Install usually has worked pretty nicely for me in the past. However, everything has risks. These risks are YOURS not anyone elses
2) The repair USUALLY works nicely and will leave all your settings, data, and programs intact, but you will have to reinstall all Windows Critical Updates and Service Packs after you do the repair. Because of this, disconnect your internet connection (unless you have a hardware firewall) until after the Repair is complete and you activate your software firewall. At that point, reinstall all critical Windows Updates and Service Packs.
3) I'm telling you to disconnect your internet connection because otherwise you will get a virus between the time when the repair is done and you finish installing critical updates, if you don't have a firewall running.
4) Backup your drive before doing anything I've mentioned above. Don't blame us if you lose all your stuff!!!
Now, if you need better instructions, refer to Microsoft's own instructions for repairing your installation:
How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315341
Read everything there closely. You probably want to do Method 2, but don't skip down to there until you read everything else first. -
Please Help--10.4.6 is killing my Mac Mini
Please help. I am new to Mac.
I have a Mac Mini G4. I installed through Software Update 10.4.6. Partway through through the installation process, the system said there was an error, that the package was moved to the trash and that I should try re-installing. So, I did. And the same thing happened again. I tried re-booting the computer. In "About This Mac" it says that I have 10.4.6. But now, everything is messed up. I can't mount any disk images on the desktop (I checked, and .dmg files are associated with the right application). I can't even install any software. Someone had posted an ftp that had 10.4.6 as a .sit file rather than a .dmg. However, when I downloaded it and tried to run the installation package, partway through, it stopped saying, "There were errors during installation. Please try installing again later." I tried to "Archive and Install" from the Tiger DVD (10.4.0), and, early on in the installation, it gave me the same "error" message. I tried to repair disk permission (I hadn't done than before downloading the update), but it just hangs there (how long is it supposed to take anyway). Moreover, Mail won't launch and while Safari launches, it crashes. Firefox works. Please, please help me. I don't understand what's going on.
Mac Mini G4 Mac OS X (10.4.6)Thank God, everything is OK, again.
I posted my question on two forums, “Using Mac OS X Tiger” and “Installation & Setup” because I wasn’t sure which one to go to, and received useful information from everyone involved.
I want to profusely thank everyone who helped, not least Dr. Smoke and his extremely useful Web site: www.thexlab.com
Here’s what I did:
First, I tried to Repair Disk from the Tiger install DVD. The repair failed, gave me the following error:
“Invalid volume free block count
should be 15966423 instead of 15966422
Error: underlying task reported failure on exist
1HFS Volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error
Repair attempted on Volume 1
Could not be repaired”
In looking through Dr. Smoke’s site, I saw that it said that third party applications like Disk Warrior might be able to help. It reminded me that my friend made me get that program when he sold me his Mini (sorry I didn’t mention it earlier). I booted from the Disk Warrior CD and told it to repair the disk. And guess what: it actually worked!
While I still had the same problems: could not mount disk images, etc. I was at least able to do an Archive Install of 10.4 (I followed all the specific instructions as outlined). And that worked, too. Now, everything is working again!
I updated to 10.4.5 (I figured that was the last one working OK, so go with what works. I am sure 10.4.6 is fine, but as the xlab Web site notes, “Before installing software updates, you should decide if "now" is the right time.” And, frankly, after what I have been through, “now” is certainly not the right time.
One last question: all the applications seem to be working just fine. How do I delete the “Previous Systems” folder? Where is it located? Is the procedure the same as the one outlined in this document, “Mac OS X 10.2: How to Delete a Previous Systems Folder” (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25461) or is it different for 10.4?
Again, thank you so very, very much for your help. I really appreciated it.
Best,
Amir

PLEASE HELP - my wife is going to kill me! Cannot locate her "books"
OK - Here is the scoop! (Call me stupid!) We have about 14 blazillion pictures in iPhoto and I was attempting to manage them alittle better so I downloaded the freeware "iPhoto Buddy" to help manage the pics. Well, I obviously did not know what the heck I was doing and the next time I opened up iPhoto, it appeared that all our pictures were gone. I re-imported them into iPhoto and everything was great, except that I was not able to locate the phot albums that my wife has ordered and made via iphoto and mac.
Well she was OK with that (if she had to be) and so she proceeded to create the new "grandmother's" Christmas books and then I got stupid again and tried to find all the old albums she had made. Well, I saw on IphotoBuddy's help info that if you wanted to go back to y our original library - go to "Use Default Library" and that is what I did. Once that was finished - it appeared all was OK again, with all the OLD albums loaded back in iPhoto again, but now the one that she had spent HOURS on was missing. I had to reload the last month's pictures, but that was fairly painless.
SO - FIRST of all - how do I get rid of iPhotoBuddy (if and when that is appropriate?)
SECOND - how can I find the photo album that she has just made? She has nt ordered it yet, but she spend HOURS on it.
THIRD - can I "streamline" the "album" issues that I have? What do I need? iPhot library? 2003 library? 2004 library, etc? Please advise-
Please help a man from being murderized! (not that I don't deserve it...)
Sprolesthesproles:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. It's apparent that you have two iPhoto libraries in your Pictures folder, the original one and the new one with the new book. You can use iPB to move between the two libraries until the book is completed and purchased. Then delete the book library and go back to the original with all the albums.
You can use iPhoto Library Manager to move between the two also but iPLM will let you rename the libraries to better identify them. You can call the library with the book "Book Library" and the folder in the Pictures folder will be renamed Book Library.
OR, the paid version of iPhoto Library manager will let you copy rolls and/or albums from one library to another and keep keywords, comments, etc. intact. So you could copy all of the albums from the old library into the "Book Library" and let it become your primary library.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. -
I killed my Spotlight after 10.6.5 Combo... please help!
Okay, so I had renamed the Search.bundle file to Search2.bundle to hide my spotlight icon. However, I forgot about this when I updated to 10.6.5 (combo).
Now, I have no icon there (but the placement is there), and I get this error in console:

From what it looks like, the MDworker process is active, but theres definitely something wrong with the my menubar / spotlight icon/ spotlight in general.
Please help, thank you. I just did a fresh install of SL and had finished setting up all my apps and tweaks.. Took hours and I completely forgot to change that back before I updated.
Thanks in advance.I have same problem.
Installed 10.6.5 a weeks ago, then realised later that spotlight was not working as well as entourage search. Didn't think it was update related. Tried to fix spotlight by reindexing the main volume in spotlight privacy. But this only created an error.
Then tried various sudo commands, of stopping, starting reindexing spotlight. Had no luck.
Decided to back up hard drive, reformatted computer and loaded system in from scratch. Running snow leopard. Everything was working fine again.
Now a week later ran system update with 10.6.5 and now spotlight and entourage search don't work again. It must be an issue with the software update.
Has anyone had the same problem, as would rather have apple fix with a software update than waste time, messing with the system.
Thanks -
