Please help laptop cq60 fan

i got a laptop its about 3 years old. compaq presario cq60. i tried to vaccuum the fan. i know that is a bad idea now. but the coputer was running just slow like it was having a hardware problem. i noticed that the fan was off. i rebooted and my computer said hardware problem files wont be damaged but we are looking for problems. then it said its reebooting if problems arent fixed to try again. it booted past windows loading screen then was blank with a mouse. it seemed like just the fan wasnt working. so i turned it off and have left it off. I ordered a new fan and im having it replaced by someone who knows what there doing.
I didnt use the vaccum very much and after i finished the computer was still running just the fan was off. It seemed like that was causeing the computer to be slow and act strange
Can you please tell me if its just my fan most likely and replacing that will probably solve the problem.
Thanks  didnt get a response last time i asked

Know way for us to really know if it will solve your problem, sorry.
Most laptops will generate a fan error if the fan fails to spin when it is ordered to spin by the bios.

  • Please help: Mega 180 fan speeds

Recently, my default FAN speed when powering up has increased from 2200 RPM to 3000 RPM. I'm using the stock 3.30 BIOS.  It stays at this level, which is creating a little more unwanted noise from the case.
Before I swap the fans out for quieter versions, I want to see how normal this is.
Can you post your speeds and BIOS versions?
And if you know a way to slow it down, please let me know too.  SpeedFan doesn't recognise the fans, perhaps due to the fact that its support for the LM90 sensor doesn't pick up fan speeds from the Mobo.
    Thanks all!
    -lajaro

It's not actually the CPU-fan that is causing the most noise. The smaller exhaust-fan is the only one measured by PC Alert (as far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong), and it is quiet enough, even for being a Delta! The problem is the larger (60mm) intake-fan that seems to be running on a constant rpm.
I've tried the Zalman Fan Mate 1 to lower the rpm on the intake. Tuning it down does take away a lot of the noise, but the CPU temperature will increase instead, causing the CPU-fan to spin faster   That isn't a big issue however, since it is rather silent...
This weekend I'll be replacing the standard 60mm fan with a Papst. It should be much quieter than the stock fan, but I'll just have to see what happens to the CPU temps. One problem with replacing the fans is the lack of space in the chassis. The original fans are 60x60x15 and 50x50x10, and not much else will fit with the standard HS in place.
One other measure I'll take is to follow johnrr6's advice on maximizing the airflow inside the Mega by removing cable clutter: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=46409&sid=
It seems John's Mega is the quietest thing around, and the coolest running...
Noise just isn't compatible with a Media Center PC, and although an SFF isn't exactly the best chassi for an ultrasilent HTPC, the Mega could do better than this.
Let us know if you try something successful.

  • Please Help, Laptop Keep Crashing

My 17in Macbook Pro (Late 2011) has been crashing for the past few months. I took it to a certified Apple Retailer. They diagnosed the hard drive as the issue, I has it replaced with a new 250gb SSD. It worked great for about a week then started crashing again. Can someone help? I'lll also mention that I had the RAM upgraded about a year and a half ago, but this issue started a few months ago.
Here is the report I get when it crashes. It's a link to a google doc because I can't post the whole thing here...says "contains invalid characters"
    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eUPQ6iAPX0EVcgr4UAEkOjpz6VWc716eTYuYcrp79Yw/ edit?usp=sharing

I still would install the original RAM and see if there is a change.
Also run an Apple Hardware Test:

Note that an error free AHT is not definitive.

  • Please help Laptop Partions

Hello i am new to hp and have brought a hp comaq laptop recently it has windows 7 64bit
If you look at the link below  you will see an image of my laptop disk management
    http://yfrog.com/5mpicofmageddiskj
as you can see  i have
a: c drive = which is 254gb hard drive which has my main os windows 7 on it
d: drive  = which is my recovey ppartion  and it is 13gb
THEN I HAVE 2 OTHER PARTIONS  WHICH ARE
    hp tools   which  is 99mb
    and system  which is 199mb
OUT OF THESE 2 CAN I DELeTE THEM,   i know that i have (the unallocated partion which i know about)  but can i get rid of the hp tools and deltet it ,  and is it dafe to do this also whats inside that partion and whats inside system beacuse i need to DELTE 1 OUT OF THEM 2 PARTIONS   but i need to know which to delte

You don't want to delete the SYSTEM partition or the C partition. If you have a set of recovery disks then could delete the recovery partition.  I recommed that you get some good hard drive imaging software and make a disk image of the partition that you are deleting.
You are running into the 4 partition restriction.  There are third party partition managers that will allow you define more than 4 partitions. Paragon Hard Drive Management Suite is a good product but there are others.  I use the Paragon suite.

  • Please help me Ghost fan

    Hallo everybody,
When I took my Mac Pro out of the Box the fan began to rattle and producing a very bad sound. I opened the case then I closed and It stopped for two months. Yesterday IT happend again and then It desapeard as It came!. I could call the Apple guys but I do not know if these sounds could be normal. Another question that I would like to ask you..Is the alluminium case easy to be scratched? if I have to return my Mac Pro to Apple is there a chance the I will received back scratched. I know It could sound silly but I love my Mac Ciao

i didnt have any rattle from the fans or anything else on my pro. you can try taking the side off and gently but firmly pushing on the grey plastic fan assembly at the front. it may be rattling against the lower part of the case and that could push it back into place.
as for scratches, well it depends on what you do with it. i made the mistake of sitting mine next to an evil pc case and the back corner of the pc scratched the side panel rather deeply. its not something thatll happen with everyday use, you have to take a sharp implement to it in order to gouge out anything noticeable.

    Hi Aparana.rahul,
The beeps during the startup of your MacBook Pro indicate that it may need to be serviced. See this article for further information -

  • I'm unable to remove my keyboard from my laptop. Please help.

I'm trying to clean my laptop fan due to overheating. So I tried to disassemble my laptop but i'm stuck at the stage where the keyboard should be removed. My laptop model is HP Pavilion dv6-6144ca and I've looked up its manual on removing the keyboard. The manual (pages 71-72 http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02842252.pdf )
instructs to do the following things to remove the keyboard:
    1. Remove the Phillips PM2.5×4.0 screw that secures the keyboard to the computer.
    2. Rest the computer on its left side.
    3. Open the computer.
    4. Insert a screw driver or similar thin tool into the keyboard screw hole, and then press on the back
of the keyboard until the keyboard disengages from the computer.
    5. Turn the computer right-side up with the front toward you.
    6. Lift the rear edge (1) of the keyboard, and then slide the keyboard (2) back until the keyboard cable is accessible.
I'm stuck on step 4. I've tried pushing a screwdriver and then the stick part of a cotton swab through the hole, but I still can't seem to disengage the keyboard, as it should like it's shown in the manual, from the laptop. I even put a lot of pressure when pushing, but still no luck. So I stopped it because I felt I could break something if I put any more pressure than I already did.
I don't know what to do. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Please help.

  • CQ60 Optical drive check. Please help.

I have a Compaq CQ60-422DX laptop. I did an optical drive check through the HP Support assistant software. My DVD-RW drive is working fine (plays, rips, and burns CDs and DVDs as it should). I even checked the device manager for good measure. But when I used the optical drive check on the HP support assistant software, the result came on as "Action Needed," in terms of the reading check but it doesn't tell me exaclty what the reason is and it just directs me to the general Windows Help application. What seems to be the problem? please help.

Buy Disk Warrior and use it to repair your OS X volume (if it's repairable.) If DW cannot repair the volume then use Disk Utility to reformat the volume using the Zero Data (one pass) Security option.
Do you have a backup of your OS X volume? Since you have tried using TDM to access the drive without success it's reasonable to assume your data may be lost. If you have an external hard drive you can use, then you could attempt to use file recovery software to see if your data are recoverable.
At this point it is premature to assume the drive is bad since your Windows volume is functional. If you have Windows software for reading Mac drives you may try accessing the OS X volume from Windows.
    Basics of File Recovery
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • Laptop doesn't turn on after re-assembly and replacing thermal paste. Please help!

    Hi,
I hope anyone can help me. I took apart my laptop HP HDX16 to replace thermal paste and clean up the fan. I did everything very carefully as showed in manual. I cleaned the old paste and pads off and replaced thermal paste but not the pads as someone in the store suggested that there is no need for putting pads and that the thermal compound is enough to have it on there. I left only one pad on the heat sink in place where it services Northbridge as it was in good condition. On the Northbridge itself I put thermal compound as well as on the GPU and CPU.  I put back every screw and connected each cable as it was before (I am pretty sure about it). I was quite happy with my job but after I tried to turn the computer on it wouldn't start at all. Did I do something wrong? Please help me because I don't have any idea what to do now.

I am a little confused here, it sounds like you removed all the thermal pads except for one, if this is so, you need to put all the thermal pads back in place.
Anyways aside from that, if you plug the adapter in you will have a steady light where it plugs into the laptop. The light will always be on whether the machine is booted up or not.
If you don't have a steady light then you need to check the DC receptor where it plugs into the MoBo. Sometimes a cable may look like it's fully seated, but isn't. It still will boot up with the battery in place even if the DC jack plug is not correctly seated.
Check the small ribbon cable on the power button board where it connects into the MoBo.
Check that the processor is correctly aligned with it's key and that the locking mechanism is fully locked.
Make sure the RAM is seated correctly.
If these suggestions sound obvious, I have to start some where.
The problem here is that only you can help your self because you disassembled you machine, I can only make suggestions as what you may have missed and obviously something was missed.
If your thinking that you incorrectly applied the thermal paste, then that's not the problem. Even if there were no thermal pads or paste in place, the machine would still boot up, but it would heat up very quickly.
If the fan plug was plugged in incorrectly you would get a message in the BIOS upon boot up saying that the fan has a problem and it would shut down, but it sound like it's not even getting that far.
There is also a secondary fan that is used to cool the hard drive bays, check that plug as well. You may not get a BIOS message if this fan is not plugged in.
Here is the HP Media Services Library, you may find it helpful. Make sure you're signed in before clicking on the link.

  • Please help!!! Laptop won't come on...just beeps three times!

I took my laptop to the apple store to get the internal ac adapter fixed. When I went to pick it up the guy told me that it might not come on because the battery was drained. So I get home and immediately plug it to charge and try to turn it on, but the fan only came on for a brief moment and I heard the laptop beeps three times. The screen didn't come on or anything. The light on the part you push to open the screen blinks three times as well. I didn't think anything of it at first so I kept it charged for an hour but when I checked on it I noticed it was very hot. I immediately unplugged it and tried to turn it on. Nothing but the beeps and blinking lights. I have tried everything including resetting the pmu. Can someone please help me?

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Return your Powerbook to the Apple store. 3 beeps means there are no good banks of memory found. The blinking sleep LED blinking is part of the boot process, and it blinks the error code the beeps also indicated. FYI, the beeps are:
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable

When i disconnect my iPod 2nd Gen from my laptop, its display goes off and working freezes. Please help me.

The computer freezes?  There may be something wrong with the USB port.  If the laptop has more than one port, does this happen on any port?  If you are disconnecting the shuffle cable from the computer, does it make any difference if you disconnect the shuffle at the other end of the cable first, then disconnect the cable from computer?  Or if you currently disconnect the shuffle from cable first, try it the other way.
You may be able to work around this problem, if you get a self-powered USB hub.  Something like this one
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/USB2HB7PRO/
There are many choices, but be sure to get one that has its own power supply.  You can leave the shuffle cable connected to the hub, and connect the shuffle to the hub, instead of directly to the computer.  This may provide a "buffer" for whatever is causing your laptop to shut off when the shuffle is disconnected.  Since the hub has its own power supply, it will not rely on the computer for power to re-charge the battery.
