PLEASE HELP!!!! Laptop won't boot up!

Last night, I closed the lid on my laptop without shutting it down or putting it in Sleep Mode, but when I got up this morning, my laptop was really warm and I couldn't get the screen to come back up. So, I manually shut it down and restarted it. When it booted up, I logged on and everything froze up within two minutes afterwards. So, I manually shut it down again (because everything was frozen) and I restarted it back again in Safe Mode and everything works fine. But the USB drives and the speakers aren't working in Safe or regular mode, so I'm not really sure what's going on. My laptop did this before (about 2 weeks ago), but I did a system restore and everything went back to normal, so I'm not sure what exactly is the issue now, because I've done another system restore and it didn't help. If anyone has any information on what this could be, please help. I have some important documents that I haven't backed up and I'd hate to lose them all since I can't use the USB ports to get anything off.
(I have a Satellite L-505D using Windows 7)

Can you do a Chkdsk from safe mode?  Select all the options and let it run.  Be patient.
Also try to system restore from something further back in time.  Probably the restore image you used was no good.
Pull the battery out, reboot, reload the default settings in BIOS.  Put battery back in later.
If you are able to fix it, make a habit of backing up things regularly.  Use an external drive or second hard drive.  You can automate backup too.  Also consider purchasing something like RollbackRX to help correct things quickly.

    Hi Willrobb1,
I understand your computer will not boot up. Restart your computer and keep press F9 to open the "Boot Menu" or "Boot Device Options". Press Enter to continue.
Here is a document on system restore if you need it. You can restore it to a previous point when it was working correctly.

My MSI GT60 laptop won't boot past the MSI logo.
I also can't access the BIOS.
so your laptop freezes at MSI logo and if you spam or press DELETE button few times on boot do you then only get "-" line? if so then either it's bios has hanged itself so if your able to access cmos battery from back area where you can access hard drive, ram and such then disconnect cmos battery leave it disconnected for 15 mins also make sure ac and battery is disconnected to once done put cmos battery back and then actuall battery and try with starting the laptop and see if it passes by MSI logo if it hangs again at MSI logo then spam Delete and see if you can enter bios but if bios throws an black screen with "-" again then you would have to RMA your laptop since it sems something is wrong with your motherboard causing bios not wanting to work propertly.

  • HP laptop won't boot at all

My one and half year old Hp 2000 laptop won't boot at all. When I press the power button, it doesn't show any sign of life at all.
I have tried Hard test several times yet it didn't fix it.
    Battery charges, power adapter working.
I have also tried to boot using the AC adapter alone yet my precious laptop isn't showing any sign of life.
Please how do I fix this? I need to do my assignment and prepare for my exams, and I can't afford a new laptop. Not when the current laptop is pretty new.
    Please help me HP support.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi @Chichiiii ,
    Thank You for your inquiry.
I understand that when you power on your notebook it is unresponsive.  You did state that the AC adapter is working and the battery is charging.
Here is a link to HP Notebook PCs - Computer Does Not Start (Windows 8), which has multiple links to help you determine the issue.

I installed an antivirus recently and in its scan some viruses were found. Those viruses were deleted and now my laptop wont boot into windows. It just stays where "toshiba" logo is displayed. My laptop is running on windows 8.1. I have a recovery DVD, but the laptop won't boot from the DVD either. Is there a way to get my laptop to boot windows without doing a factory reset. laptop won't boot, will not do a windows repair, received a hdd error 0303.

    Hi,
The error code is a short Disk Self Test failure and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.  This is also consistent with the start-up issue.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - you can check your warranty status Here.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know - include the full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook - see Here for a further explanation.

  • Pavilion G2-b27SA Laptop Won't Boot - Fan Whirs and Hard Disk Light Comes On but Nothing Else

    Hi
My Pavilion G2-b27SA laptop won't boot. The fan whirs, the hard disk and wirless lights come on but nothing happens on-screen and the fan goes quiet after a couple of seconds (to a low whir).
I've gone through and tried the solutions in this thread - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-e-g-Windows-8/Laptop-will-not-turn-on/td-p/102825 - with no luck. Specifically, I've tried a hard reset and hitting F10 when the laptop tries to boot. Neither has had any effect.
Is there anything else I can try to get the computer working again? If I take it to a laptop repair shop (I'm out of warranty) will they be able to do anything, or is it effectively dead now?
Thanks in advance for your help.

The laptop can always be fixed if you have a bottomless wallet. On a no-start with flashing lights it is likely the motherboard and a motherboard replacement if you have the shop buy the board and bill you for labor will be about $300 give or take 25%. Before we give up, it could be bad memory or a few other less expensive things. Assuming they do not charge too much just to diagnose it; take it to the shop.

  • Laptop won't boot; Black screen w/moveable cursor

    Satellite A305-S6905
Current Situation:  Laptop won’t boot-up; black screen with moveable mouse cursor, HHD indicator actively flashing.
I was attempting to upgrade from Vista to Win7-32bit-Ultimate.  Kept receiving error messages regarding non-compatible files.  Next the computer would not recognize the Multi-Drive (did not appear on the My Computer screen.  Now all I get is the black screen.  How can I restore?

BTW, to reboot this PC (Windows 7), all you need to do is pres ctr+alt+delete at the black screen, and it will do just that. But if you disconnected all usb drives, then you cannot use this shortcut. You need to just shut it down with the power button.

  • Help request - T500 started with no BIOs battery or HDD. Now installed, but laptop won't boot fully.

The laptop now won't boot to windows...
Sequence of events - investigating issue inside laptop, (CMOS battery creating strong bad smell).  The CMOS battery, HDD, and palm rest were all not installed.
The laptop was turned on in this state.
Some error or message screens came up.
As I tried to fix, I first realized and replaced the CMOS battery, then later the HDD, and later the palm rest.
At some point, with the CMOS battery in or out, and HDD either in or out, the laptop said it needed a correct system date.  I went into BIOS and just selected 3/27/2015, and left the time with whatever it was showing.
This resulted in allowing the boot to progress to the screen stating that it could not start up, and asking to run in safe mode, safe mode with networking, last good configuration, or normally.
I tried safe mode, last known good, and normally.  All of them resulted in the windows logo and loading bar (XP), and then it showed an error screen for a fraction of a second... and looped back to the boot sequence leading back to asking whether to try safe mode, safe with network, last known good, normal.
Then, later I installed the palmrest, in case that was related.
Still, the boot efforts all resulted in the same thing... an extremely briefly-displayed error page (too brief to read anything), and then instantly booting back to the safemode/last known, normal, etc option screen.
I canged the graphics to the integrated graphics, just to try... no change in result.
What is needed to allowing it to boot fully and normally?
Thank you very much for any help

...means that Windows can't grok the boot device.  Things to try:
    1.  When the PC is booting, press F8 to get a boot menu for Windows.  Do you have a "last known good config" option?  Try it.
    2.  Do you have a Windows retail disk, or a friend who has one?  Boot on it and do a repair.
    3.  Open the BIOS.  Can you find a setting for hard drive controller mode, IDE or AHCI?  What does it say?  Try switching to the other mode.
<<Any benefit of trying to reformat the HDD and reinstal an OS from scratch?>>
Yes, of course.  It will fix the problem, as long as you're sure that the hardware is sound.  But that's not guaranteed.  Hot plugging a drive to a booting computer is not good practice--you have the potential for ground faults, corruption of the MBR, or whatever.

  • Need help! MSI laptop won't boot from SSD

Hello, I bought an MSI GP60 2PE Leopard 4 months ago, and recently decided to upgrade its hard drive to an SSD.
However, after cloning my C drive (my boot drive) directly to the SSD, the laptop refuses to boot from it. It can detect the drive and I can access the files from it (when I open up My Computer, the drive shows up as drive F). But, when I swap out the hard drive with this SSD, it says "no media detected" when booting up.
The SSD i bought is a 128GB Kingston SSD if this information helps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Follow Darkhawk's simple guide https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=179716.0. Cloning seems to end in tears & having to use this method anyway. FWIW, I stupidly tried to clone when I installed a SSD few mths back & naturally it didn't work, wasting a few hrs in the process. This method works first time/everytime.

  • HP Laptop Won't boot from Recovery CD. (bios is set correctly) Jumpers? Faulty Optical Drive?

Won't boot from HP Recovery CD. Bios is set for ATAPI CD/dvd as priority. Boot menu only shows HD.
    More detailed:
Purchased HP recovery CD's from Hp. Put the CD in, went into the bios, set it up so the CD/dvd rom would be priorty in boot device. Saved and exited. Computer reboots, I press f9 to select from boot menu, Only the hard drive is shown. The ATAPI CD/dvd rom drive is not...I reboot and let it go past the first screen.
    BOOTMGR is missing.
Press Ctrl alt delete to restart.
^^ That is where I am at. The CD-rom drive is functional, it spins, it works. The bios has it recognized.
(This computer DOES NOT have an OS, so I am trying to put a fresh install in it. The CD is bootable, it came from HP saturday. I tested it on my Desktop and it boots like a charm.
    Help me please HP ;].

Hi! In your situation, I recommend ordering the recovery media from Toshiba. I'm thinking that your OS has been corrupted by a Virus and you no longer have the hidden recovery partition. I have replied on the other message also. If you have further questions, I will try to answer them as best I can. You can get the Toshiba recovery media here. Scroll down to the bottom to find recovery media.

  • Laptop won't boot up WITH PICTURE

Hello! I'm sorry if this has been asked before; I tried to search for words that might be related, and it returned way too many for me to read through, or to guess if they're having the same issue as I am.
I have a A505D-S6968 Satellite laptop.  It is three years old, and I use it every day as I'm a graduate student.  For the past couple days, I go to turn the laptop on, and it won't boot up.  The power light is on, a bank of lights at the top near the base of the screen, a light near the bottom, and the charging lights on the lower right corner.  The fan is running, and the CD/DVD drive makes a sound.  However, that's where it stops.  The screen doesn't display anything and there is no glow from it at all.  The keyboard is supposed to light up, and it doesn't.  The mousepad doesn't light up or work.  So it seems like there's power being provided to it in some respects, as a few lights come on, the fan comes one, and the CD/DVD drive "checks".
Here is a picture of it misbehaving:
Any ideas as to what could be going on?  I let it sit, turned completely off, all night, because I figured I'd just deal with it later.  I had tried for an hour to get it to start and it wouldn't; it just sits like that indefinitely.  But this morning, it booted up just fine.
Now I'm afraid to ever turn it off again!
Again, I apologize if this has been asked a million times, but I can't read all of the descriptions and try to guess if what they're describing is what is going on with mine.  Any help or ideas are appreciated!
    Thank you!
    Grace & Peace,
    Kristen

What can I do if my Windows 7 or Windows Vista laptop won't start?
If it still doesn't work, it sounds like it may be due to hardware failure that would require servicing.
