Please help - MBP acting strangely !!
Hi,
I am having a couple of problems with my MacBook Pro. First, when I opened Mail in the dock this morning, the icon in the dock froze in its enlarged state. i.e. my dock is set to enlarge the icons when my cursor runs over them. When I click on the application I want to open, and move the cursor, it normally goes back to it's normal state along the bottom. However, this time, it stayed frozen in place, even though the cursor was moved. This has happed with other applications too.
I have to restart to get control of the cursor again.
I also get the spinning ball even when nothing is open. It just starts to spin when I go down to the dock to open an application.
I have tried Onyx and repaired permissions, cleaned caches etc etc.
Any other suggestions ?
Thank you,
Kallum
Although the lack of a startup chime bodes of other things, it may well be worth taking in the computer with this Apple article in hand:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
Your MBP has the nVidea 8600M GT chipset that is the subject of the Apple Repair Extension Program (REP) that the article details. Apple Stores and AASPs have a test gadget that will determine if the nVidea chipset has failed. If it has, the repair is free to you for a period of four years from date of purchase whether you have AppleCare or not. The repair consists of installing a new logic board.
As you are in NYC, there should be an Apple Store nearby.
If they determine the chipset has not failed, then you have the option of asking for a "Depot Repair." This is a flat fee service that pretty much fixes anything they find wrong as long as the case does not show evidence of damage. The fee is around US$300--much cheaper than a new computer. I do not know if the replaced DVD drive will negate your qualification for this service.
One late-breaking thought: if you use headphones, can you here the startup chimes?

Please Help - ODD acting MacBook!
Hi everyone, please help me if you can!
I just got my MacBook not even a week ago and up until now it has been running fine. An hour ago I was dragging icons I don't normally use out of the dock. I did a few then when I went to drag the iWeb icon out the dock froze. The dock is darker and "iWeb" is displayed above the icon as though I had just selected it. (I hope this makes sense.) I can no longer use the dock and it is still frozen. I have tried to restart, shut down, and log out from the apple icon in the menu bar to no avail (nothing happens). I decided to take the battery out manually to force a shut down, and shut and unplugged the laptop. After I took the batery out I wanted a minute or two then replaced the battery. Amazingly, the machine boots up as though it is coming out of sleep - dark screen over the desktop with the ... (forgive my technical jargon) little horozontal waiting/tick lines. Then the screen goes bright and I'm stuck at square one with a frozen dock and unable to shut down. I even tried remvoing the battery and just having the laptop plugged into the electrical outlet - the same thing happened.
It's been about an hour now since it started, I'm clueless as to what to do. I'm clueless as to what to do - the MacBook is a replacement for my old TiBook, and that was pretty much the blanket fix for any kind of freezing problem I ever encountered.
Oh, and because I forgot and it may help, it's the lower end MacBook with the 1.83 processor and the 512 MB of memory.
I'll be here, waiting. Please help if you can!!
Thanks!
KristenI'm sure there was a better way of taking care of your problem, but by now I'm sure you just wanted something quick. Your welcome.

I am running Photoshop CS5 on a Q6600, 6 gigs of ram 3 Tbytes HD space and a 8600GT 512 video card. CS5 runs great until I add a configurator 2 panel, then strange things happen. When I select a tool using a keyboard shortcut, is changes very slowly and then reverts back to the original tool. Switching between layers in the layers panel is very slow. None of this happens untill I open a custom CF2 panel. I used custom configurator panels in CS4 with no problems and my workflow now almost depends on them.
I have tried everything I can think of, I turned off open GL, changed all the advanced options in open GL, removed all plugins etc.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
TomYou are not alone. There are other post where those with custom configurator panels are having delay problems. No fix that I have seen yet.
Hope you have not uninstalled CS4. -

Can anyone explain what do those fields:
name
role-name
cascade-delete
target-ejb
target-role-name
target-cascade-delete
target-multiple
mean.
My scenario is following:
Bean 1 = User
Bean 2 = EmployeeData
Relationship: User has EmployeeData (1:1)
Tables:
Bean 1 mapped to users
Bean 2 mapped to employee_data
Collumns:
Bean 1 references Bean 2 in column pk_login Bean 1-field is login
Bean 2 references Bean 1 in column fk_login Bean 2-field is login
Thanx a lot to anyone who answers.For the 1:1 relationship, the ejb.xml needs to have the relationship defined

Please, help with this strange problem
Hi,
I'm trying to get the serial value of a informix serial column after inserting a record. I'm using the ifxjdbc driver for Informix (v 2.2).
I've written the code below:
Connection conn = null;
PreparedStatement st = null;
try
conn = ds.getConnection();
st = conn.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO Comunicats (vchTitle) "+
"VALUES (?)");
st.setString(1,vchTitle);
if (st.executeUpdate() != 1) throw new EJBException();
/** Now getting the Primary key inserted **/
long sCodCom = ((IfmxStatement)st).getSerial();
st.close();
conn.close();
where I'm getting the connection from a datasource (ds) connected to a Informix pool using that driver (com.informix.jdbc.ifxDriver)
This code inserts the row but fails getting the serial value. The error message is:
"java.lang.ClassCastException: weblogic.jdbc.rmi.SerialPreparedStatement (...) "
Obviously, the cast ((IfmxStatement)st) doesn't work.
If I change how to get the connection, and I use the DriverManager and declare a Statement st variable (instead of a preparedStatement variable):
conn = DriverManager.getConnection(Informix_Url);
Statement st = conn.createStatement();
int nRet = st.executeUpdate("INSERT INTO ...");
Then it works.
But I don't wanna use the DriverManager. I wanna use my pool and datasource to get the connection.
Has anybody tried something similar successfully?
Thanks a lot.
Joan.Hello jbalaguero,
We are now facing the same problem ie. it works with DriverManager connection but not with Weblogic Connection Pool connection!
Where you able to solve this problem? If yes please tell how!
Thanks.

I have a dell axim x50. I have the jad and jar files. How can I make my application work on the PDA??
I've simulated with toolkit, and such.
Please Please help ><The act of getting the jar from a pc to the device is called "provisioning"
Some devices let you do this over bluetooth or IR and many others only allow it over http.
I used to use some free web midlet hosting sites but the ones i used have been shut down now. (do a search on the net for "Free Midlet Hosting")
These days i set up a web server on my development machine and then just use the phones wap browser to download the program. -
ZEN MICRO PHOTO ACTING STRANGE PLEASE HELP.
I have had my Zen MicroPhoto for a bout a month now and it is great! I use it quit often. However just yesterday, it began acting strange.... It deleted many of the files that I originally transferred to it and whenever I start it up, it says "rebuilding library" Also it does not display the now playing info for teh current track. it only displays "choose a track from music list" It will play songs and stuff but it just seems strange..... I do not know what to do about it.... Should I reinstall the firmware or what? please someone help me.... I would appreciate any advice on the subject... I freakin' love using my ZenMicro. help me save it. Thank you.
aaron78: Follow the advice in the section "My Zen is not behaving properly, won't startup, or goes into rescue mode. What should I do?" in the FAQ.
Snoweagle: Reloading the firmware shouldn't erase the data, although you should ALWAYS keep a backup. -
Computer is acting very strange. Please help.
My computer has starter acting very strange. It has start to take ages to boot up, and it runs a progress bar on the grey apple screen (as if its was booting in safe mode, but its not). I cant seem to save any files with any Apps. When I try to save documents in office it tells me ether the file name or path doesn't exist, it is open by another program, or its read only. Office also keeps coming up with errors saying im out of memory. Other apps just come up with errors when I try and save files.
The last thing I did before my computer started acting up, was to increase the size of a Windows partition. Using Winclone I copied my Windows OS, then added the partition back to my mac, and re-partitioned it to a larger size. I formatted it into NTFS using Tuxera, and then used Winclone to put Windows back on. Everything seemed to go smoothly, and the Windows OS is fine.
Please Help!Yes, iRadu is correct.
If Disk Utility can't fix it, you'll need a more robust utility for the repair. I would recommend DiskWarrior. It is the best at directory repairs. It rebuilds then actually replaces your old directory. I feel every Mac owner should have a copy.
Make sure you get the disk so you can boot up on it to run repairs. You can also install it on another drive and run it from there to repair this one. DW works faster that way.
I use DW once a month to try and catch errors in my system from getting too far out of hand.
DW is the only utility I would recommend to repair +Keys out of order+. It's a pretty serious error.
Do you have a good backup...one with no issues?
DALE
p.s. Here's a rewiew of DiskWarrior 4. -
i just updated my itunes today, and now whenever i move the cursor over ANY clickable object, a translusent gray rectangle appears on top of it. i have SP2,and have tried changing mouse settings, rebooting the laptop, etc. nothing worked, and these gray rectangle make it very hard to read any text in the music store. please help!!
Well I understand your pain, but microsoft and everyone is SLOWLY switching to 64bit. Id say by the time Vista comes out in January 07 apple will have some basic support for 64 bit built into its program. Im not that mac savy but I believe the mac already operates on a 64 bit apple OS and Vista will support 64 bit so apple will have to switch iTUnes to it sooner or later on the PC side most likly in iTunes 7.0 but we will wait and see til then
-
Can someone please help me to see if I can figure out what is wrong? I looked to see if there was any updates that I overlooked, however, it stated that all updates had been made. I am completely lost. Thank You.
You are in a situation where it may not be a big deal, or your hard drive could be failing and everything on your computer could be at risk. That means everything gets erased if you don't have a copy of it. You may want to make your first priority getting an external hard drive and making a copy of all your music, pics, movies, ect. while you still can, if you still can. It may turn out to not be a big deal, a directory issue or your'e out of space or something, but better to have a back up and not need it, than to lose everything that's important to you.
If you value your stuff, stop trying to use the computer and back it up, before you do anything else.
It sounds like you should then take it to an Apple Service Provider like an Apple Store. -

Please Help! MBP shutting off when plugged in, now not recognizing MagSafe Adapter
I started seeing this problem a few weeks ago, my MacBook Pro just shut off spontaneously while watching a video full-screen. I turned it back on and the problem went away for a while. But now, the shut-downs happen more frequently. It doesn't matter if the MBP is running off of the battery or if its running off of the AC cord, it will just shut off. No warning. No standard shut-down process, everything just stops and a balck screen shows up. After it shuts off, it takes a few seconds to get it to restart, and when it does, the computer's date and time will be reset to some date in 2000. Very strange, I've had this computer for a year and I know people with the same model that have had no such problems. The battery is at 168 cylces (I use this for school, so it was being used everyday throughout the last two semesters), and the Condition is listed as Normal in the System profiler, so I doubt the problem is with the battery, but I could be wrong. I've seen posts about the RAM/PRAM causing the date/time resets. Nevertheless, the MBP has been running normally on the battery, battery life is still the same length of time as it was when I first got the computer, and runs smoothly. Up until last night, the AC MagSafe Adapter was still working, so I only used that as the power source. Everything was fine, but the MBP shut off once or twice while it was plugged in within the last month or so, but the AC would still have a green light, indicating the computer was still recognizing the power source. Now, I can't get the MagSafe to be rocognized at all. The computer is running on battery only, and I've tried resetting the SMC, but I'm unsure if it worked since the MagSafe is still unrecognized. When its plugged in, the System Profiler says it is not connected and not charging.
I'm running on Mac OS X 10.6.8, a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with a 4GB memory (of which less that half is used). Computer usage is low, so its not like I'm running several programs at once, at most, its two or three at a time, for short periods. My MBP is a 13" aluminum body, doesn't seem to be overheating, has worked fine after long periods of being on and getting hot, I always let it cool down after I feel it getting too warm.
Please help if you can! Thank you!Battery Information:
