Please help me decide

Is Britney a nice simple country girl or a has she gone wacky?

I grew up in a town where Blondes are a dime-a-dozen. Doesn't do much for me.My wife's not a blonde. I don't have big thing about blondes, either.
In other words, there's a lot more to looks than just hair color. Take away all the lighting and makeup >and good camera angles and she's really average. That's true - I've never seen her without all that makeup and the rest.
Average? Might be true. The trailer trash label from a previous post seemed too low to me. Her character might be in the trailer park, but her looks aren't that terrible.

Biggest screen out of the 4, not so great i3 processor (don't know if it makes much of a difference), plus risk of shipping from US and the product potentially having probems working in Australia in terms of compatabiliy, or for whatever reason..

If you want peace of mind I vote against imported C560. I am not sure C560 has worldwide warranty as first. It seems Idea and value AiO are not sold in Australia, so spare parts availability might be an issue in any case.
It looks nice, but overall engineering, cooling and (mechanical) parts quality is way behind ThinkCentre (M and E series).
If you are student, you can buy E73z at educational pricing directly from lenovo - the first option costs 863 or so then, not 899. If you will use it just for "normal" work, then i3 might be just fine (it is 100$ cheaper). Any M92z is also good choice (just CPUs are one generation old)
The M92z is now on sale on ebay for the next three days for $539.   That is a heck of a deal assuming it is not refurbished.  The only negative as Toruk mentioned is the processor is one generation old.  But I have an i5 processor in an M90z and I use it for the exact same things mentioned in the original post in this thread.  I don't have any issues.
The E73z is on sale on the Australian Lenovo website right now for $799.  It comes with everything probably neede including an i3 processor.

  • Please help me deciding the storage for RAC !!

    Hello,
I am looking for some help to decide hardware in order to install 10g R2 RAC. I have two IBM P5 series boxes with IBM - D24 Storage (SCSI storage). I followed Oracle's Clusterware installation guide. It says you have to create Physical Volumes in "Concurrent Mode" which my system does not support. even if i import this Physical vol with LVs in Concurrent mode it gives error as this is not an concurrent PV. I found that HACMP is needed to do this. But same time i found that HACMP is not needed ... I am very much confused.
Can we take SAN and get rid of this kind of problem ? is there any software with SAN for concurrency ?...
If you have any suggestions highly appreciated.
    Thanks

    1. I think what Ashok was saying is that you don't need to put these disks under the volume manager at all--just address them as raw disk devices. I don't recall where the raw disk devices are found on AIX, but you shouldn't have to do any importing or creating of physical volumes in order to use ASM.
    2. I think all the storage arrays I've used have allowed access from more than one host. It's usually an access control list or something similar.

  • Please help in deciding what to buy :S

Hey everybody, i really need an answer for a dillema. I'm currently plannig to sell my desktop and get a macbook pro/air laptop, but the thing is, with money i have i will be able to get a 2009 macbook pro model 15, 2.66 core 2 duo, 500 GB, 4 GB RAM and dual nvidia graphic cards 9400 and 9600 at best. I currently also have an iPhone 4S and the iPad 4 (for less than a month), and i'm thinking selling it as well and get one of the newest 13 inch macbook airs, because as much as i love the iPad, i think the new air is light enough to be used in similiar manner, while adding functionality. I primarily use my iPad for reading, web surfing, games, e-mails, some minor document editing as the touch keyboard can't really be used for long typing etc. I need your help in deciding as i've never used any Apple laptops and therefore i don't know how fast each model is. I don't plan to use it as a gamer laptop, though i might play games like DOTA 2, nothing more intensive. So, the main question comes down to, should i sell my PC and get a 2009 mac pro and keep the iPad, or sell both PC and the iPad and get a new air, to fuse both worlds (also, is the new macbook air really fast enough to substitute my 3.0 GHz dual core, ati radeon hd 5670 old PC, disregarding gaming?). Thanks .

OK, those are three very different computers, all very capable.  The 17" is a very large, heavy machine so if one goal is to replace the iPad you would have a much less convenient machine to carry around.  While it is still portable, you may find yourself not wanting to carry the weight around and end up looking at another iPad.
The 15" is a very nice machine, lots of expansion options.  You can add more memory to take it to 16 GB if you need to do so.  The info says it has SSD so you have excellent speed, but may want more storage space than that one offers.  An external hard drive, which is hard to take with you, is a great option when at your home or someplace for a period of time.  And external hard drives are relatively inexpensive.  Take a look at those offered by OWC, I have three of their 2 TB Mercury Elite Pro drives.
Which brings us to the MBA...that is a very nice machine, Intel i7 processor is very good, enough ram to work well, and the 512 GB SSD gives a good amount of storage space.  And it is fast storage.  Some quote numbers of 5 to 7 times faster than a standard hard drive.  And, of course, you could use an external hard drive as with the MBP if the Air is one of the models with a USB or FireWire port...you might want to check on that.
So, my view is the choice is between the Air and the 15" MBP...one can be expanded, the other is light and easy to carry.  Both would meet your needs very well.  The Air would be a closer in size and weight replacement for the iPad.

  • I want to buy W530 today, please help me decide which options

I have decided to purchase the Lenovo W530 Thinkpad. I have researched the daylights out of my choice and am going to live with my choice. I have a Dell XPS desktop and ASUS ProArt monitor. So here are my choices -
    1. Processor options - My XPS8500 desktop has a i7 3770@ 3.4. The standard for the W530 is an i7-3520M (4M cache, up to 3.60 Ghz). I am leaning toward the i7 3740QM (6M cache, up tp 3.70 GHz). This option is an $85 upgrade. I hope this would be as good as my desktop as I have no clue what these specs mean. My next choice is a i7 3840 (8M cache, up to 3.80 GHz). This costs an extra $285.
    2. No help needed in picking 1920x1080 display with calibration sensor.
    3. 16 GB PC3-12800 DDR3 (4 DIMM). Not sure what this means but for $90 less I could drop to 8 GB DDR3 - 1600MHz (1 DIMM) or for $120 more could go to 16 GB DDR3 - 1600MHz (2 DIMM). Again have no clue what the difference is, other than 16 GB is probably better than 8 GB). My desktop as 12 GB of RAM.
    4. I want to get the 1 TB HD 5400 rpm as opposed to the 500 GB  7200rpm hard drive. I know the latter is faster but I value the space. Going for the 1 TB adds $100.
    5. I have no idea what a Micro hard drive is. I have a choice of no Micro Solid State Drive or for $40 more can get 16 GB mSATA Solid State Cache Drive. It is only $40 extra but have no idea what the advantage is.
    6. The standard config comes with a DVD recordable optical device. I can replace this with a second hard drive. I am guessing I would have to buy an external DVD device to record DVDs or CDs, which I do not want to do, so I will stick with the standard configuration.
    7. I am really really hoping the standard NVIDIA Quadro K1000M graphics with 2 GB DDR3 memory will be good enough for Photoshop. I am not a power user, do not do much with video, and never use computer for games. For $250 more I can upgrade to K2000 that has same 2GB DDR3 memory.
    8. For $20 more I can get the Intel Centrino Ultimate N 6300 AGN wireless LANN adaptor instead of the standard Intel Centrino Advanced N 6205 AGN. Again I have no clue what this means.
With the options I am leaning toward my cost is $1,587.60. I will add an external 10 key pad and Mini display port to DVI adaptor so I can hook up my external monitor to the laptop. I am hoping I would not need docking station with these two options as I have read about the problems in this forum. . I have been happy with my Dell desktop so my hope is my laptop will perform as well. I do use a laptop very often, so my goal is to be able to use one computer for everything.
I mainly want to know if the processor I am leaning to will be as good as my Dell XPS 8500 and if I really need the more expensive graphics card. I know I am not a Thinkpad owner yet like everyone on this forum. But I know this is the place to go for people that know the Thinkpads so I really do need and appreciate your help. I hope down the road I can contribute like many of you do.
    Gary
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1) i7-3520m is an i7 dual core CPU, if you choose this option then you would only use 2 of the 4 SODIMM RAM slots, and your max ram capacity is 16 gigs (2 x 8 gigs). If you choose the i7-3740QM, which is a quad core cpu, you would be able to use the 4 SODIMM RAM Slots for a max of 32 gigs of ram (4 x 8 gigs).
Your XPS systems uses a desktop grade quad core CPU, and the laptop uses (if you choose the i7-3740QM) a mobile version, which is slower than the equivalent speed desktop CPU. The short answer is that you won't find a IVY Bridge Mobile CPU in the W530 that will be faster than the i7-3770. The i7-3940XM is the fastest cpu in the W530, and it is still slower than your i7-3770.
    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-3940XM+%40+3.00GHz
    2) RAM Cost slightly cheaper aftermarket.
    3) micro hdd is the mSATA, and in my opinion there is really no point getting 16 gigs version. I would rather pay 100 dollars aftermarket and get 120 gigs mSATA and use it as a SSD.
    4) for PS, the K1000m is enough, no point getting the K2000m.
    5) i would pay the 20 dollars and get the 6300 wireless card.

  • Upgrading my MPB.. Please help me decide with the graphics card

    Hi Guys
I have got a late 2007 model MBP Santa Rosa 2.2 Ghz 2 Gb RAM and 128 Mb NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT video card
I am planning to upgrade my MBP. I just want to know that how is the performance of NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics processor 256 Mb compared to my dedicated one. I do normal photo and video editing and DONT play any games at all.. I sometimes feel that my this MBP is a bit laggy when I use photoshop or something.
If the integrated one that is standard on MBP's is quite good to what I generally do (which I have mentioned above), then I wont look into getting the one with dedicated Graphics as I need to save money.
I have tried looking on the internet but I cant find anyone who can give direct comparison between these two in MBP
    Please suggest!!!
    Thanks heaps!

    Hey Singh,
If you're looking for completely anecdotal evidence, I can help with that. I recently purchased the 2.8 GHz 17" MacBook Pro with the dual 9400M (256MB shared/9600GT (512MB dedicated) graphics cards. I user Photoshop and iPhoto a lot, a little iMovie and some Final Cut Pro. I also do quite a bit of video encoding, DVD rips and conversions to iPhone format. I prefer my PS3 for gaming and never do so on the Mac.
What I have noticed is that I can really tell the difference in graphics performance when encoding video and not much any other time. A slight exception is with hardcore Photoshop filters. For those two things I'm glad I can switch to the dedicated 512 card especially when time is a concern. It's also really nice to be able to choose between horsepower and battery life if necessary.
All that being said, if I was getting a 15" MBP I would forgo the extra graphics card and spend the money on more RAM which seems to make a bigger difference in what I do. The 17" did not have an option like that so I have the dual card and a lot of screen real estate. That reminds me, I use the additional 24" LED Cinema display and do not notice any difference when running the extra monitor.
My girlfriend owns the 13" MacBook Pro with the 256MB integrated graphics and iMovie and Photoshop run very nicely and are vastly improved in comparison to her old white MacBook. I have owned the 2007 model MBP Santa Rosa 2.2 Ghz and the new 13" 2.2 6GHz MBP is noticeably quicker in all respects.
In conclusion I would say that the dedicated graphics card is a must for anything in Final Cut Studio (Motion, FCP, DVD Studio Pro) or anything 3D, but for typical Photoshop use, iMovie, etc. you'd be better off with more RAM if you had to choose. If you don't have to pick between the two, get the 512MB card with 8GB of RAM and sleep tight knowing that if your Mac is too slow there's nothing you can do about it hardware wise and you're just too quick

  • Please Help Me Decide MacAir Options

I will be purchasing my first Mac soon.  My old Toshiba laptop has died and I am currently using my ipad for all my computer needs.  Since they are most basic, it actually does very well but, call me spoiled, I still want a laptop.  I only use a computer for email, web surfing, paying bills, managing bank account and one budget spreadsheet and the iPad is handling that.  I also have an hp wireless printer for the iPad.  Occasionally I want to scan something and the hp is an all in one but I am just not happy with taking a pic with the iPad as a feeble scanning option.  Nor do I like any scanning app.
My question tho is how much SSD storage should I get.  Using the iPad, I started out as totally computer illiterate and have advanced quickly thru its capabilities, at least enough to please myself.  Therefore I am wondering if I will do the same with the MacBook Air and need more storage in a year or so.  But then again I don't want to be foolish when I really don't really need one to begin with.  I don't play games, edit photos and am certainly not a developer.  Don't want to even have windows on it.
Sorry for the book and I certainly know no one can really know what I need, just asking for opinions.  Thank you.

Having a total stranger guesstimate your storage needs is tricky. On one hand I can speak from my own personal experiences (trials & errors) but on the other hand the odds that my usability matches your needs is usually quite low.
I'm going to assume (as the model of MacBook Air you're considering was not mentioned) that you're looking at a model with the 128GB drive. Personally, I feel that the 64GB SSD (standard in the $999 11" MBA) is a travesty.
When you factor in the OS and applications (iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie) and suites like Office you can quickly turn that 64GB into not much free space for media or other "entertainment."
The other problem is, the ability to upgrade the internal storage on the MacBook Air is a little bit tricky. First off, it's not cheap and secondly there's one aftermarket vendor that makes one solution (in different capacities). The lack of competition in this sector means if you don't like your choices you're out of luck. Even worse the lack of competition pretty much means they can charge whatever the heck they want.
So for 99% of Macbook Air owners, who will never go this route, what you've got from the start is what you'll have for the life of the unit. Plus if you intend to hold onto this machine for several years then you have to try to anticipate what your needs might look like a year, two, three or even four years into the future.
Three years ago I could fit my entire life on a 8GB thumb drive, I'm over 6TB of media now and have a mini server farm in my spare bedroom. I would have NEVER anticipated something like that if you had asked me three years ago. I also understand and acknowledge that spending hundreds of dollars to upgrade the storage for something you may never use is frivilous and seems wasteful. So it's one of those, "between a rock and a hard place" scenarios.
How much media do you currently have? By media I'm referring to the sum of movies, tv shows, music and pictures. Furthermore, how much of that content has been added in the past 8-14 months? Do you consume a lot of media? Are you regularly buying music or albums? Do you rent, watch or pirate a lot of movies and or tv shows? Do you have a large or extensive DVD/CD media library currently? What about camera equipment? Do you own a DSLR? Plan to own a DSLR? Ever want to get into photography? Those sorts of things, those unknown variables need to be explored a bit to see if your needs might be changing in the next 8-14 months to where your internal storage needs might suddenly change with them.

  • Please help me decide on a Mac mini server or MacBook Pro i7 for Logic

    Hi folks,
I've really taxed my brain trying to figure out what's the smartest way to go. I'd love to know what any of you think I should do.
    My current setup:
2007 MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo
    2GB Ram
    FSB 667 MHz
    M-Audio ProFire 610
WD-Passport external drive for samples and audio files
Logic 8 (looking to upgrade to 9)
    Record 1.5
Various AU plugins including Omnisphere, Miroslav Philharmonic, Amplitude 2, FM-8, BFD 2 and Korg Legacy Analogue
Final Cut Studio (latest version) for modest HD editing but sometimes multiclips as well
I tend to use lots of tracks - around 10 vocals, 4 guitars and lots of software instruments.
As you can imagine, Omnisphere runs like a dog past 2 instances and BFD practically makes everything grind to a halt.
Since going to Record 1.5, rewiring also seems to be unusably slow.
I'd love a new iMac or Mac Pro but I make several plane journeys to visit my Mum in another country. My solution has to be mobile, although I have got monitors, a keyboard and mouse that I can use at my Mum's.
As far as I can see, there are 2 options:
    1
    A new MacBook Pro 2.66 Ghz i7
    2
A Mac Mini Server 2.66 Ghz Core 2 Duo
Physically, the Mac Mini is the better option:
    - much lighter in my hand luggage so I could take it in addition to my existing MacBook Pro.
    - more USB ports
My worries with getting a Mac Mini are:
    - Is it powerful enough or at least significantly better than my MacBook Pro?
    - Will it run the latest version of Final Cut Studio (a little off-topic, I know but I couldn't seem to find any straight answers elsewhere).
    - Is it noisy when under a heavy workload?
    - There is no Superdrive so can I use my MacBook Pro to install the software DVDs across a network?
Thanks for reading this. Let me know what you think.
    Kind regards,
    Steve

The mini will be about as powerful as your current MBP. You could have more RAM in the mini, 2 GB is certainly not enough for any serious work.
People on this list were initially(LP 9.0.0) underwhelmed by the MBP i7 dual core, it is a step up from your older MBP, but don't expect miracles. Get lots of RAM/a SSD for optimum performance.
9.1.3 may have improved performance, not sure,
Fast and relatively cheap: iMac i7 quad core. Not very portable, though.
Not ideal either is your M-audio interface, its drivers are below par making your Mac sweat more than necessary.
    My 2c,

  • Can someone please help me decide on a new plan?

I'm currently on BT Total Broadband Option 1.
    I'm currently out of contract.
The plan itself is £13.83 but I'm constantly going over my 10GB usage allowance so seeing additional fees of £5.30-£10.60 per month, I need a plan with higher usage allowance to avoid additional charges. BUT I'm on disability benefits so it has to be cheap, staying under £20 p/m. I'm really confused by the different options, and I can't seem to see anywhere that allows me to compare different plans to figure out which would be best for me - priority is to increase my monthly usage by at least double (20GB), faster speed would be nice too.
FYI - I'm unable to use a phone due to disability, so I can't call BT directly to talk through my options.
What plan do I go for?
Can I also say it's a bit annoying looking at what I could get as a new customer - it seems I could get faster broadband with much higher allowance for under £20 p/m, with half-price for first 6 months and £100 Sainsbury vouchers, plus of course a cuddly toy if I go through comparethemarket. Wish they'd offer something nice like this to existing customers!

Have you seen this web page? It suggests that same speed Unlimited Broadband is £16. Infinity 1 (20GB) is £15 but with a £30 activation fee. There is also an Infinity Extra (40GB) package but for some reason it isn't listed on that page aimed at existing customers.
    Upgrade your BT Broadband
One problem with going through the web site ordering process is that there is no chance for you to discuss any additional freebies or discount with BT (often available for combined Broadband and Calls packages). Why should they give you any additional freebie or discount? Well because you are currently free to leave with just 30 days notice, but may be prepared to sell your soul to BT for another 12/18/24 months if they make you a good enough offer. As you know, there are plenty of other ISP's who collect souls and will bend over backwards to get yours on a fantastic new deal.
There is always the BT Tariff Guide for information, but if you can make clear sense of that then you are doing well.

    Hi everyone,
Just joined and this is my first post here.
I live in India. I can get a non Thinkpad
Lenovo for 23,000 rupees [around $400]. The dealer didn’t tell me which model it was but it's dual core, 3rd generation, 2GB RAM, 320GB HDD, 15inch screen, battery that lasts 3hrs.
PLUS a lifetime FREE subscription to Eset smart security six antivirus for as long as I'm in this particular state in India. If I move to another state or move to the US, as I hope to do in a couple of years, I will have to pay something.
I don’t need a large HDD, so that's fine. I need the laptop only for word processing and the internet. No gaming or programming or photoshop, so I don’t need high configurations like i5 and i7, which are prohibitively expensive in India.
OR I can get a second-hand Lenovo Thinkpad that is nearly 2 years old for about the same price. These are the specs according to the ad:
    Lenovo ThinkPad L420 Laptop / Intel Core i3 / 14.1" Display / 2GB RAM / 320GB HD
    Processor Speed:2.10 GHz
    Model:ThinkPad L420RAM:2 GB
    Operating System:Windows Home 7
    HDD:320 GBScreen
    Size:14.1"
    Colour:Black
    Processor:Intel Core i3 (3rd Generation) i3-2310M
    Warranty:No Warranty
Bought this laptop in Jan 2012. In perfect working condition. 14.1 TFT, DVD dual layer writeable, wi-fi, great touchpad, and all others in a perfect working condition. Excellent battery -- lasts for 7 hours with movie playing / gaming.
That was the ad. The advertiser told me that though he installed Windows he has always worked in Linux and therefore has not had any virus problem. Naturally we worry that any old laptop will have viruses.
He did offer to format and reinstall everything. He also said he can offer me a licensed copy of win 8 and Word for free.
I'm wondering which of the above I should buy. Can you please help me decide by answering my questions:
    1. I'm a writer; I write on the computer all day long. I need something that will work well if used 12 to 14 hours a day. Would the new laptop give much better service than the 2 year old one even if the older one is a thinkpad?
    2. does a thinkpad on average last more years than any ordinary laptop, or any other lenovo laptop? I can't afford to buy a new machine every couple of years. I want something that will last at least 5 to 7 years. My old desktop lasted 9 years, and I used it all day long.
If the thinkpad lasts longer than other laptops, then it might have as many years in it left as a new laptop, even if it has lost two years of its life already.
    3. the advertiser says the battery lasts for 7 hours. Someone told me that after a couple of years, all batteries last half as long as they used to. Does this mean the used thinkpad's battery is now not likely to last 7 hours as the advertiser claims?
But even if it lasts 4 or 5 hours, that would still be better than the mere 3 hours the  new laptop will run on battery.
If I buy a new battery for the thinkpad, will it last 7 hours or do all laptops lose the ability to run long on batteries over the years?
    4. will a new dual core, 3rd generation processor be faster or slower than a two year old i3 3rd generation processor?
    5. The advertiser said the reason the price was high was that Lenovo thinkpad was unbreakable. You could throw it out of a moving car and it would survive. Now I have no intention of throwing it out of a moving car, but accidents happen and it would be nice to know nothing would happen to it if I accidentally dropped it while carrying it from place to place.
So is it true the thinkpad will survive falls while ordinary lenovos won't?
I'm sorry this post is so long. Thanks so much to anyone who can answer even some of my questions.

    Hi, welcome to the forum!
First of all, you should ask the exact model and specifications of the new Lenovo from the dealer. You cannot compare models unless you know exactly the specifications. Second, you don't mention the price for the used L420, so we cannot give you definite answers. I will try to give you some guidelines, sorry if I'm not more specific.
In general terms, a Thinkpad is more robust than normal laptops. The L420 has a spill resistant keyboard, metal hinges for the screen and a very good construction with good plastics. If you accidentally drop it, chances are it will not be easily damaged, but it all depends on how it falls, on what surface, at what angle, open or closed etc. etc. Dropping it from a running car would probably destroy it, as it would any other laptop. It is more resistant but not invulnerable, so it all depends on the specific conditions (or your luck!). I have Thinkpads 8 years old and they are still working perfectly. I have an L520 and i expect it to last easily that much under normal conditions. But, as with all machines, you never know, it could develop a problem and die tomorrow. The chance is slim, but it is there and it could happen. Again, it depends on your luck.
On the other hand, I have helped friends buy new laptops and I have tested the Lenovo Essentials series (B590). They are very plain, well constucted, quiet and extra cool and they are cheap. For simple everyday use I would expect them to last as long as a Thinkpad, given the proper care of course. I wouldn't hesitate buying one of them.
Now for the battery of the L420. If it is the normal 6 cells battery chances are that 7 hours are out of the question. Only with a well preserved 9 cells battery this number is possible, so ask the seller for the battery type.
The laptop does not loose its capability of keeping the battery alive and a new battery will last according to its specs, whatever the age of the laptop. So you can always buy a new battery for an old laptop and there will be no problem.
For typical applications like word processing and internet use, all modern dual core processors from intel are more than enough. Again, a comparison is impossible because you don't have the specs of the new Lenovo but there is really no difference for the use you have in mind. I would suggest you add another 2GB of ram though - to both laptops - to ensure a smoother operation. It would cost around $30.
Another aspect you do not mention is the screen size and resolution. A 15.6'' standard HD (1366 X 768) is ok but maybe the 14.1'' with the same resolution will not be enough for writing all day. Ask the Thinkpad seller about the resolution of the screen, it would be nice if it is a 1600 X 900.
All in all, for the same price I would prefer the Thinkpad because it is a better laptop. There are also the Thinkvantage tools (software only for Thinkpads) that add more value to the package, especially the Power Manager. But if it costs more than $500, it becomes less attractive. For $600 I would not even consider it.
Of course this is just my opinion, based on the facts you gave. Try to get more details, wait for other opinions. In the end, you can't go wrong either way!

  • MOST crucial decision - please please help me...!!!!!!

please please read the whole post....please have patience....
    WHAT I WANT:
To be able to record lectures deli'vered by my professor so that I can later on listen it while commuting and also make notes.
    WHY I WANT:
Because our professor deli'vers lecture at a very very rapid pace and although it is great listening him and understanding his concepts...its so so fast that its impossible to write or make note of anything...
This creates problem because although I am able to understand everything while he teaches BUT later on I forget everything as I am unable to make any notes.
The net result is I am where I was when the classes started.
    WHAT I AM THINKING:
I gave a thought to my problem very deeply and discussed with some people and the only solution that appears is TO RECORD THE ENTIRE LECTURE DAILY....so that I can make notes from it later on at my ease...
    WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS:
After doing a very thorough and deep analysis on net and gathering as much information as was possible for me... I concluded that I am having the following options:
    A. To record the lectures using Apple iPod along with either griffin italk or belkin voice recorder.
    OR
    B. To record the lectures using Nokia mobile handset using its inbuilt microphone (or attaching some external microphone)
    OR
    C. To record the lectures using dedicated digital voice recorders such as Olympus DM-0 and DM-20, or say Panasonic RR-US006.
    OR
    D. To record the lectures using a laptop which is having inbuilt microphone or attaching the laptop with external microphone.
    OR
    E. To record the lectures using flash based MP3 player like those of transcend etc.
    OR
    F. To use dictaphone (I have never before even heard that term)
    WHY I AM CONFUSED:
    Because
. I do not own personally any of the devices in all options referred above and therefore unable to make a choice which one suits my needs best
    AND
    2. Dont know which one would be MOST suitable for purpose of recording class lectures from a reasonable distance (say 5-0 feets away) for 3-4 hours lectures.
    AND
    3. Dont know which device would be MOST reliable and durable
    AND
    4. Dont know which one provides Best Value for Money as there are extra benefits associated with each device and extra costs too.
    EXAMPLE:
    I have heard that
    # Griffin italk or Belkin Voice recorder at times may NOT record properly always (I have just heard NOT at all sure)
    # Again Apple Ipod which allows extra voice recording functionality is NOT mini or shuffle so Again I dont know whether its better to have Nokia Mobile which has so many extra features as well and would cost less than Apple ipod.
    # Again if Nokia Mobile is to be purchased which particular model suits my needs best.
    # Or is it that dedicated digital voice recorders are best as they have one single function of digital voice recording.
    And so on........................
    BOTTOM LINE:
There are so so many variables involved that I am really unable to decide. This is further complicated by the fact that I have never used such gadgets and NOt sure.
PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE..........................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE..........................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE..........................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE..........................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My budget is very very flexible (which means that I am ready to spend upto Indian Rs 50000 which is roughly USD $ 000, if required).
The single most imporatnt reason I am intending to buy such a gadget is to record the class lectures daily which are normally of 3-4 hours duration and the professor and my sitting distance varies from feet to 0 feets.
If i get extra features Its welcome BUT this digital voice recording feature is something which I do NOT want to be compromised.
Please suggest me out of A, B, C, D OR E what should be my ideal choice and what costs i would incur. If possible please specify the exact product number or detail or specification.
I Know I have written a very very long story and it must have tested your patience and consumed a lot of your valuable time. I genuinely and most sincerely appreciate your time and effort with me from the bottom of my heart and trust me I am really in serious trouble or else would NOT have written such a long story.
I am very anxiously awaiting the words of wisdom and valuable advice from more knowledgebale and experienced (and most importantly helpful) members here.
I am sure that someone here will be able to help me out with his advice and suggestions.
Again I express my deepest sincerest appreciation and gratitude for reading this post and possibly replying.
Please reply in detail and advice to your best as your decision may be very very crucial and infact the whole basis on which I am going to make the purchase. So please be concerned and kind.
    Thanks and best of regards
    Most sincerely

Two of my classmates are using the Creative Zen Micro 5GB. I've heard their recordings, it's pretty good. Every word captured clearly. But they both sit on the front rows, and the lecture hall has good acoustics. It records in .wav though.. there are other brands out there which can record in mp3 format, and even wma, so if you want to consider further, you can look into those as well.
The Zen Micro is able to record rather well, I must say, for an MP3 player. But at 3 hours of .wav recording for almost every day, your player will be quite full by the end of the week. I still suggest that you go with the dedicated voice recorder.

  • Please Help with Graphics Card "Bait & Switch"

I ordered a laptop for using as a field monitor and DVR with OnLocation (DV Rack) with the Quadro FX 2500M graphics card. At the last moment the builder says the Quadro is not available (or he can't afford it) and can only offer the NVidia 7950GTX or dual 7950 GTX SLI. Can anyone please help me decide whether or not to accept either one of these alternatives?
Need to make quick decision to accept or cancel so any help much appreciated.

Workstation cards are not really any help to the NLE user. Neither is SLI. I'd say you'll be fine with a single 7950, if you trust the guy enough to buy from him.

Hi i recieved an ipod touch gen 5 for christmas and it worked perfectly on the 30th it decided to instantly shut down on me and over heat iv tried all of apples recommeded techniques but it wont work at all even when charging someone please help me!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
