Please help me format my ipod

I tried to re-install the software for my ipod and had been told my ipod need to be formatted. I click format button. It came up the message " assertion b failed at. /ipod format FAT 32. cpp appline 1068". Anybody can tell me what I am going to do? Thanks a lot!

- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod/iPhone/iPad on the iOS device in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected or cellular data is on and connected for, on a computer browser go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. I already downloaded the Updater (2005-10-12) and Itunes from this website. I had a USB problem before when I was going through the Ipod setup. But that problem is solved now. When I get asked to connect the Ipod, I connect it using the cable that's provided. It says "Your ipod is now connected". It now asks me if I want to format my ipod and i say yes of course...However, I get a new message that says "error communicating with your ipod" (or something like that).."please disconnect and connect again" which I did...more than a couple of times. I reset my Ipod already and started all over again but nothing happens....
What should I do? Can someone please help me? pls? ...
I have the 20GB ipod (new) and I'm running Windows XP.

I got through the ipod set up process...i'm now trying to install itunes and it gives me the 1607 error...i'm now trying to follow the instructions (from one of the threads here) to fix this error and it says:

2. Right-click on the installation file that you are trying to install and select Properties.

* Your installation file can be found on the CD where you are running the setup from.
step number 2 is unclear to me. when i go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver, the folder "driver" has only three folders "7", "8" and "11"...which one should I go to then?

my uncle bought me an ipod as a gift for me couple of months ago..and for about 5 months, i was able to upadte songs into my ipod using the MAC OSX...but now, i got a new labtop and has windows XP, i installed the CD and downloaded itunes 7.01..
then when i connect my ipod with the USB, it reads the following:
DO NOT DISCONNECT
and my computer cannot read the ipod...i always have to reset it to listen to my songs, but i cannot update new songs..

One thing to note is that you can format the iPod as FAT32 (Windows format) and it "may" work on your Mac. So one thing you might try is plug it into the Windows machine and follow the directions here...

Now that it is reformatted for Windows, go into the preferences and click on the iPod and click the box to "Enable Disk Mode". Now, take it and plug it into the Mac.
It hopefully will show up on your Mac's desktop as a disk drive. You can grab your iTunes folder and drag it into the iPod to copy everything over onto the iPod's hard drive. Eject, move it back to the Laptop, open the iPod as a disk drive, and copy the iTunes folder onto your Laptop. You should now be able to add all your stuff to the iTunes library on that computer.
Then delete that folder out of the iPod to free up room and then sync the iPod to iTunes on the laptop.

Please help !!! iPod malfunction, very frustrated

I got the black 30g vid iPod and everythime i connect it to the cp, its has no reaction:
-the do not disconnect screen does not come up
-it wont charge and the battery is dead
-not in iTunes
-no update
The main reason is that when i plug it in the cp it says
"one of the usb devices has malfunctioned, and is not recognized by windows, please click the messa..."
and then it stops charging from there.
I can only see it in device manager as a unknown device
it is not recognized when i go to the iPod updater or iTunes. So that wont help
i tried updateing to everything from iTunes and so on, no solution, and apple makes it to confusing for me to find a solution,
anyome else have this problem or have an idea of what to do? Please help
Or do i have to return my iPod back and if so how do i do it?

if that doesnt work.. try multiple usb ports... a different cable... and possibly even a different computer to determine whether the problem is within the computer or the ipod itself....

Okay, I was about to sync my iPod Classic 160GB and go to bed. I plugged it in and everything was good. I am not sure if it was syncing yet, but it fell off the cord because my HP laptop moved. I wasn't worried at the time, The apple screen came up so I pressed Middle Button+Menu to reset it, then I plugged it back in. When I plugged it back in it said I had to format the drive in G.. The screen of the iPod said Connected Eject before disconnecting and had the circle arrows like when it is loading. It seems to be working fine when I unplug it.
But anyways, When I unplugged it a second time (I did click Disconnect in the toolbar on the actual device, not in iTunes) it didn't work again, and it brought up the grey apple screen again, then went to the language. so I plugged it back in. Then I said OK to the reformat. I clicked Default settings to the format and left the Volume Label blank because I don't know what that is...
It said WARNING: Formatting your iPod will delete all files on it, or something along the lines of that. so, I said okay, I'll just resync it, just get on the reformat. When I clicked format it said that it couldn't format my iPod... So, once again, I disconnected it, ejecting from the actual device in the toolbar, and it was absolutely cleared asking me for the Language. It keeps doing this every time I plug it in, and even when I switch USB slots. it wont read into my iTunes either.
I am really sad, and please answer because my iPod is basically my life, this is my worst nightmare come true.

I had a simalar problem with mine about 6 months ago. I formatted my ipod to and it completely fried my ipod. I had;the same ipod and it was just out of warrenty. Yours might be fried,take it to a genius bar. I ended up getting a used iPod because I had to have music.
