Have you tried connecting it to iTunes and restoring it? That's what it's trying to tell you to do. It's in recovery mode. If that doesn't work, then you'll have to get the hardware problem dealt with before you can do anything.

Without having the top button, you couldn't do a hard reset.
I'd say you might be looking at backing up and restoring through iTunes unfortunatley. -

The flashing WLAN light means activity (data getting transferred). Try disconnecting all your devices and check whether the light is still flashing or disconnect the router from internet and do the check.
Do you have your SSID as linksys or the default one? If your neighbor has the same SSID, then traffic could result from your neighbor's one. Try changing your SSID and password. Make your security WPA/WPA2.

iPhone 4 went into recovery mode when trying to restore it. Now the only option iTunes allows is for "restore & upgrade", it is not offer an option to restore from a backup, says that must first do the upgrade, when attempting to do the upgrade the iPhone won't accept it.
How can I restore from a back up in recovery mode when the only option is "restore and upgrade"?
Please help.You don't you must restore your phone first and then you will have the option to restore from your backup.

I just tried to update my iPhone 4 to 7.1 and for some strange reason the phone wouldn't update then wanted me to restore it... (Figures!) This is the second time my ipad screen has gone black. The power button is not working. I reset the ipad about two weeks ago when this happened. However, this time I am not able to get itunes to recognize the device. It keeps asking to respond from the ipad (obviously with a black screen that isn't going to happen). I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?! -

When it says place the iPodin recovery mode use this prgram.
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
