My iPOD just runs through the playlist. Doesn't play anything. The songs do exist physically on the device.
I tried updating the iPOD but still the problem was not solved.
Is there any way by which I can play the songs without downloading them again on iPOD?

I just had the same exact problem. It's like the Nano was forwarding thru the songs by itself..nothing would play!
So I went and looked at the manual, which suggested I try resetting it first. I did, and it worked! Here's what I did:
The manual instructed me to turn the "hold" switch on & off. Then it said to hold down the Menu and center button at the same time, until the Apple logo appeared. Then in a few moments the main screen came back on...and I was able to play songs again.

Ever since the newest IOS update, every time I pick a station on the iTunes Radio or use one of my own, the player will just run through all the songs it is going to play and will not stop.

Please help! Ipod not dynamically updating smart playlists!

I have quite a complex system of smart playlists on my 4G color ipod but I can't get any of them to update dynamically away from the computer. I have a total of 6 and here are their preferences:
SPL 1:
match ALL
1) My rating is in the range 4-5 stars
2) Last played is not in the last 1 day
3) Last skipped is not in the last 1 day
4) Playcount is less than 5
limit to 100 by most recently added
SPL 2:
match ALL
1) My rating is in the range 0-3 stars
2) Last played is not in the last 1 day
3) Last skipped is not in the last 1 day
4) Playcount is less than 4
limit to 55 songs by most recently added
SPL 3:
match ALL
1) My rating is in the range 3-5 stars
2) Last played is not in the last 1 day
3) Last skipped is not in the last 1 day
4) Playcount is greater than 5
limit to 30 songs by random
SPL 4:
match ALL
1) Last played is not in the last 1 day
2, 3, 4) Playlist is not SPL 1, SPL 2, or SPL 3
limit to 15 songs by random
Unwanted:
match ANY
1) Time is greater than 15 minutes
2) Genre is Comedy
The active playlist that I use to listen to:
match ANY
1-4) Playlist is SPL 1, SPL 2, SPL 3, or SPL 4
5) Playlist is not Unwanted
So here's the problem. When I sync with my computer, the playlists work great, everything updates as expected and I get a pretty diverse playlist every time I sync which I want. The problem is that while I'm listening to my music on the ipod away from the computer, my playlists don't dynamically update. After I listen to a song, the song's supposed to remove itself from the playlist which doesn't happen, as well as when I skip songs. Even when I rate songs that aren't rated they don't appear in any playlist. This is really frustrating and I can't find a solution anywhere and yes, I do have Live Updating selected. I also have "Match only checked items" selected on all playlists as well. If anyone has any ideas for how to fix this, I would love to know. Thanks!

I was searching this forum and found someone who says that 4th gen ipods have problems live updating smart playlists if the criteria "last skipped" is on the playlist. I took this off of all of my playlists but they still don't work. Then I tried making a playlist that is just "rating is equal to 5 stars" and it WORKS!!! But that doesn't help me out much for my other playlists so maybe it's some other criteria that's causing the problem. Any ideas?

Try the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Last Resort, put the iPhone in DFU mode (Google How to do that). Connect in iTunes. Follow on-screen prompts to Restore. All Data would be lost, if not backed up earlier.

Try force-closing the Music app: from the home screen, double-tap the home button, locate Music in the list at the bottom, tap and hold it until it wiggles, tap to close it, tap the home button again, then try to play your music again.

i had the same problem a few weeks ago and i had only had my 3g iphone for a few weeks. It was as if i was on permanent mute. I could hear others fine, but they couldn't hear me, even if i used speakerphone or even a bluetooth.
i took it to an apple store and they did a real quick test (they first did a system restore, then they took my phone and tried calling another employee). Once they validated it wasn't working, they replaced my phone quickly with no questions asked. Just make sure to back up everything on I-Tunes before you go in so that you dont lose any info. might want to do the restore before you go in, as well, otherwise you'll have to wait for them to do it at the store, which takes them 15 mins or so.

hello... i am currently travelling internationally with only my ipod, no back up (45 G of music!). i was uploading photos and all of a sudden the ipod acts as though i have NO music in it at all. when i check the storage size (in itunes and through "my computer") it still shows that it is full of 50+ G of data. Also, the music files appear in the ipod's "hidden files" and can be accessed through a computer. how can i get them to run through the ipod again? i dont have a laptop with me and i just want to listen to my ipod again!
from researching the discussions it seems as though i should restore it, but then i would lose the music that is stored inside and i have no back up to start over with. someone who knows please help! thank you kindly.

have you "reset" the ipod (reset is different from restore and it won't delete the songs on your ipod). if you must restore the ipod, you can probably move the music off the ipod if you can view the hidden files. take a look at this link on moving music off and to computer.
