PLEASE HELP! My MacBook Pro doesn't fall asleep
My MacBook Pro doesn't fall asleep on its own any more. Currently, my Energy saver is set so that the display falls asleep after 1 minute, and the computer itself, after 3 minutes. Even if I don't have any softwares running, or anything else, it doens't fall asleep. Please give me some suggestion about what to do about this! (or would I need to take it to a shop? ... )
Well, since the machine does properly sleep when the lid is closed, my guess would be that you have a software conflict and not a hardware problem. Since your are up to date, have repaired permissions, and can't remember anything else that may have changed, it could be difficult to track down the culprit.
One thing you can try, it takes a bit of work but will help show if software is the real problem. You could create a new user account, and don't install anything new in it. Log in as the new user, and see if sleep works there. Often as you use your main user profile, you accumulate software programs and utilities, and sometimes then can conflict with one another. If you create a fresh user account, often it will not have the same software conflict.
If the new account sleeps normally, then you can assume that you have a software conflict somewhere, and you should think through what you have installed. If the new user account has the same problem, my guess would be that something is out of whack with the OS, and you need to decide if a full system reinstall is worth it (that is a big decisions, don't just jump into it).
Regardless of the outcome, after you have used the second account for a test, you can simply delete it.

You will get asked if you are using it on your lap, because they think that you are blocking the vents.
the macbook pro will get really hot around the E R T and F keys and I O P and L keys and the metal strip between the keyboard and the screen.
I have found the graphics accelerator heats the machine up more than the actualy processor.
you should report it to apple care before your 90 days is up, they may or may not send you to a genius booking. Just incase you have issues with your machine later due to the heat buildup early on, that way they have a log of the problem.
My macbook pro runs alot cooler than it did when i first got it, but still gets hot on heavy usage
You shouldnt really worry unless it shuts itself down as then you have some serious problems, when it gets hot u should be able to hear the fans running and it will prolly keep the temp aroun 101-104 c under heavy load. If you can't hear the fans, shut it down and take it back to the store.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain LionI just wanted to follow this up by saying that you were entirely correct in your diagnosis of the situation. My computer did have the faulty part you linked to. I brought my laptop in and specifically told them to run that test, had it fail and then argued with the person at the genius bar and the manager. Eventually they offered to have it sent out and have everything replaced for free of charge. They did so mainly because I had complained about graphical issues almost every other time I had come in with problems and no one ran the test. They should have caught this problem during my warranty, but they didn't, even though I mentioned the problem.
Anyhow, after having the part replaced, I haven't had my computer crash a single time since, or had many of the issues mentioned above. I've never had this experience before. Even brand new, I got occasional crashes. Hopefully this new trend continues.
I do find that web browsing is still incredibly slow. Web browsers just chug along at a slow pace, even though I have great internet speed. Maybe I'll try just deleting my web browsers and reinstalling them...

My macbook pro wont start, so after i press the power button, the apple logo will pop out with a rotating circle below the logo, and there's also a bar below, but in my case that bar will only run til almost complete (there's only about 0.1cm left) and it'll suddenly go off
I've tried to use Safe Mode boot and fsck -fy, they didn't work.
I've also tried to enter the Disk Utility and repair the hd, but it keeps on experiencing error, it says "Error: Disk Utility can't repair this disk ...." for both the TOSHIBA and Macintosh HD
From what i remember i haven't ever used the Time Machine backup before
How do i fix this without losing my files? I have bunch of important projects there and i need to finish them soon

Please read my story because I really need some help...
I've had my Macbook Pro for only a little over a year now but it has already given me tons of problems and headaches. I was very happy when I first got it but over the next few months I noticed strange things with it. For instance, the lid is slightly bent but not so much that it still looks ordinary when closed. I was annoyed with it but I tolerated it since it is not that disruptive. Then dust appeared underneath a small part of the screen, forming a rather conspiscuous, slightly discolored spot. Again I was annoyed but I just went with it. And then after only 5 months after purchase, something related to the hard drive broke. I think the ribbon cable that was connecting it to the motherboard died or something. It was still under warranty so it was easily fixed. A few months passed without incidents. Then a month after its warranty expired, it started to have kernel panics every single day. Most of the time the screen would just become a mass of messed up colors and nothing would respond. Sometimes the screen just went black and then the computer shuts itself down. Other times the computer just freezes with nothing responding and I have to force shut it down. I sent it to an Apple service center and had it diagnosed. The genius said that the hard drive is damaged and needs replacing but other components are still fine. So I bought a new hard drive and had it replaced. For a few weeks, the problem seem to have gone but soon, the kernel panics started again and occurred more frequently. After days of research I finally found out the problem is RAM related. I tested each stick and each slot and concluded that the bottom ram slot was busted. The Apple Service Center offered no help but to replace the motherboard (or logic board). I cannot go with this because I already spent a ton of money in purchasing the computer. I also could not get Apple Care because it is very expensive and I had no ability to spend more. So I resorted to just buying a single 4gb ram stick and tried to live with only one ram slot. I thought that I could finally relax and try to enjoy the computer even with all of its annoyances. But only a few days ago the Wifi just turned itself off and won't turn on. Only after a restart will it start working again. I tried to tolerate it but it keeps turning itself off just minutes after I turn the computer on. I suspect that it might be a hardware problem (again) because the same thing is also happening with my Bootcamp partition; wifi disconnects and will not reconnect. Bluetooth also is not working anymore. I know that this is a vague question but I'm desperate. Is there anything at all that I can do in order to fix all of the problems and prevent all sorts of headaches? I feel that I have tolrated enough and I just can't take it anymore. I want to have it replaced but I do not know how I am going to do that without Applecare (which again is very expensive for someone like me). Please help me. I do not want to go back to normal, less expensive PC's. Please HELP! Macbook pro (15" mid.2010) restarts randomly.

I've got a problem and I hope you can help me.
Macbook Pro 15" mid. 2010 (recently updated to os x Mountain Lion) restarts on its own "because of a problem".
It's been a major issue in the last months, causing big troubles and preventing me from working, as it happens quite often in the same day.
[Note: it's being doing that with Snow Leopard too, before the update!]
Here's what I already tried:
1. upgraded the RAM memory to 8 Gb;
2. formatted the system;
3. migrated the older data from Time Machine.
This didn't cause the problem to stop. So I thought it may have been a software problem and:
1. formatted again;
2. didn't migrate data using Time Machine, but copied just the few files I needed most from another backup;
3. installed some programs (Office, Adobe CS5 suite, AutoCAD 2013), but this time from another source.
The problem persists.
Does anyone know if it is a hardware problem? How can I fix it?

hello anyone i have a late 2011 macbook pro that i purchsed second hand it already had lion installed i wanted to install mavericks which I tried a four digit pin code came up thus locking my mac I took it to the geeksquad they wiped my harddrive and tried to renstall the OX they said they could not do it because a firmware passcode or filevault passcode was on it so I now have a brick can anyone help me fix this problem thanks for any info

Do you have access to another Mac computer that you could try the download from using your Apple ID?
Can you hook your computer to the router via Ethernet and try to download? Ethernet is 2 - 3 times faster.
You can also try resetting the App Store.

Ok, so my MacBook Pro is not starting up properly. When I shut it down and turn it back on my Mac just froze on the white screen when starting it up. All I have now is a start up blank screen with the apple and the small spinning wheel below it. Just like starting you MacBook normally but instead it just stays there with the wheel spinning for minutes!!! Nothing come up. Not my sign in screen but the white screen. Pls help!!!
