Please help! no color!

i just imported an image on to my photoshop 4.0, and im trying to color it, but everything is coming up as greyscale! i think this has happened before, but i dont know how to fix it.

rachel,
When you do repost, in addition to Ramón's points, be sure to include details of the steps you've taken and at what point everything turns to grays -- whether here for Photoshop, or in Photoshop Elements, if that is what you're using.
Thanks.

  • Please help. Color shift in Aperture, iPhoto, Preview ...

I get a color shift on all my photos to more pink colors.
    Red gets pinkish
    Blue gets purple
    .. and so on
iPhoto screwes up like Aperture and so does "the slide show function" in Finder and Preview.
It's nothing wrong with my calibration. It's all hardware calibrated and Photoshop displays the pictures correct.
Does all of Apple's software that's supposed to be ColorSync friendly use the same resource when displaying pictures onscreen?
Seems like a common bug for all Apple Software built into the system.
Changing Color profile for my displays doesn't make a difference.
    Please help !
    I'm going crazy

    Digitaldog:
Pictures are from a varied set of sources. Some from
SLRs like Canon EOS 5D & 10D, some from scanners.
DSLRs don’t embed true ICC profiles but instead EXIF data. ICC aware applications don’t look for that. The files are probably in Adobe RGB (1998) as you say but might be untagged (meaning, there’s no true ICC profile embedded in the file). It’s easy enough to test.
There's no difference in appearance between these
    pictures onscreen
On screen where? Photoshop can read the EXIF data if you have your preferences set.
    What do you mean?
Are pictures taken on my EOS 5D not tagget as Adobe
    RGB?
Not as far as ICC aware applications are concerned.
    Photoshop says different.
They all show up as tagged.
Still, humor me and use the Assign Profile command and pick Adobe RGB (1998) then save the file again.
You imply that a file can be "in Adobe RGB and
    untagged" ?
A file can be in any color space an untagged. It’s RGB or CMYK mystery meat. The profile only defines the scale of the exiting numbers for ICC aware applications. Lots of dumb web browsers show similar issues. You have data that IS in Adobe RGB (1998) but the browser doesn’t know this. It sends the numbers directly to the screen and the preview isn’t correct.
True ICC profile? Does the opposite exist?
From page 167 of my book:
EXIF Data and the Lie about Your Color Space: For whatever reason, when a consortium
of Japanese camera manufacturers came up with a method of identifying the RGB color space
of their camera data using EXIF data, they did so in an obscure and confusing way. In 1999,
the Japanese digital camera industry implemented a “standard format”they called Design Rule
for Camera File Systems version 1.0,or DCF for short. In that specification, the EXIF data simply
specified whether the camera data was encoded into sRGB based on the matrix setting con-
figured on the camera. If a camera encoded the data to Adobe RGB (1998) or any other avail-
able color space besides sRGB,the EXIF tag was set to “none,”causing Photoshop to produce
a Missing Profilewarning dialog if the color settings were configured to warn the user. This
caused all kinds of problems,to the degree that Adobe had to produce a plug-in for Photoshop
7 (and a setting in the general preferences for Photoshop CS as well as CS2) called Ignore EXIF
profile tag(see Fig. 5-4). This sets Photoshop to ignore the color space specified in the EXIF
data and the result is a Missing Profilewarning dialog, which allows the user to pick the correct
profile to assign. In late 2003, DCF 2.0 was introduced and it does specify Adobe RGB (1998)
in the EXIF data. Not all new cameras necessarily support this, however. None of this has any
effect on RAW data although it still does apply when a camera is set to shoot RAW+JPEG files.

  • Please help. Colors messed up on a new Vaio running Photoshop, Powerpoint on Vista.

I have some problems with a newly purchased Sony Vaio with double lamp technology (FZ-31Z) running Vista and office 2007. Nice machine, but with huge color problems. Hope someone can help.
    1) When I copy a picture from Photoshop CS3 into powerpoint, I loose vibrance and saturation.
    2) When I watch a presentation made in powerpoint on this computer on another one, it looks grainy and dark!
    3) When I import a presentation or picture made on another computer, it looks very bright, but also very red!! Saturation is way up on the reds.
    4) When i make a greyscale and look at it on the monitor - it actually carries tones of brownish in the midtones.
What is wrong with my basic factory installed colors? How can I solve this? Please advise as this is running me nuts...

    Thanks for you input!
I've invested in a calibration tool (Spyder3 Elite system) and the difference before and after calibration was huge. The grays that showed up more as brown/green turned actually grey. I never thought that factory settings could be so poor - on a machine as expensive as this ;) but I've bumped Sony on that issue.
Furthermore, I beleived that color managing existed for Poperpoint, but you learn something new every day.
I work with NEF so dumping in jpeg or copy/paste is fine. I like my NEFs for that purpose.
About the vector / grainy / dark bit, I'm not sure yet. The greys have turned grey, and when I use a dark background of for instance gray in PP, it is now properly displayed as dark gray and not lighter brown.
Another thing is that I've overcompensated the pictures in PS to make them look better in PP - so changing to sRGB display solved the problem.
But I don't know the effect from running a laptop with dual-lamp display - it is very crisp and clear and well - lit. I've tried different calibrations with different brightness level - but they report the same. I'm afraid my presentations might still be too dark on a projector with poor light. But I guess I'll have to experiment on that...
    Thanks again for your suggestions!

  • Can someone please help me color in characters?

I have this picture so far. I need help filling in the characters with color.

You can also use the Blob Brush Tool to fill in color. It's mentioned towards the end of the video link:
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/csinsider-design/illustrator-a-closer-look-at-the-variable-width -tool-for-illustration/
Just make sure to either "Send to Back" the color shape or draw it in a layer underneath your line drawings. So that you can keep your drawing in front.

    Hi,
How can I change the tint of my movieclip "mc_clip" from
#000000 to #990000 in 15 frames by scripting it?...in the same time
change the alpha value of the clip from 85% to 0%.
    thank you in advance,

the code below the dotted line will add a new method to the
movieclip class. that method allows you to fade any movieclip from
color rgb1 and alpha a1 to color rgb2 and alpha a2 in speed seconds
using the number of steps specified in the last parameter:

  • Please help with Color info

    Simple question, I hope.
    In the string:
    private Color purple = new Color(0.5f, 0.0f, 0.5f);
Where do I get the information on this in the docs? I want to know what the "f" stands for in the arguments to get a good understanding of this code. I searched through the color docs and could not find what I need to know. Can't find a reference to this. I thought I might not be looking in the correct area.
    Thanks, .......daljaxon

f stands for float. If you create a number literal 0.5, it defaults to be a double. You put a f (or F works too, I think) after it to indicate you mean it to be a float. The same thing happens for int/long. 2 is int 2, 2L is long 2. It's also similar, although probably more efficient, to this: (float)0.5 or (long)2. It's just a function of the language, nothing to do with the Color class or any other class.

  • Please help. Color Crashes on "Send to FCP" or export XML

This error has just started happening and it's driving me nuts.
I'm using FCS3 and I've got all the latest updates.
I'm grading 60 sec commercials (source is XDCAM EX HD 1080p and I'm rendering in Pro Res HQ 1080)
I did 3 this morning with no probs.
Now on my 4th; Color "quits unexpectedly" every time i try to export XML or send to FCP.
    I haven't done anything differently.
After trying and crashing 3 times, I restarted the computer and tried again.
    No change.
I thought that maybe the file is corrupt so I started a new project and did the grade again.
    Still no joy.
Anybody got any ideas what's wrong?
    Thanks
    Hills

I also am having this problem. I am running a Macbook Pro with 2 gigs of ram, OS 10.6.2, FCP 7.01 and Color 1.5. I am working on a film which is is in small 4-5 minute segments with nothing fancy, DVCPRO HD-1080i60. There are some B/W tiff files at the start of each segment. They are all rendered fine. Color crashes the second I try to send back to FCP or export XML. The error code message is:

  • Please help! Color changes after saving

I am having a problem with some logos that I've created. The file appears normal in Illustrator, but when I try to place the logo into another file (psd, indd, ai), the colors appear very diluted. I've tried saving the logo as an eps, ai, pdf, but it doesn't seem to matter. Does anyone know why this is happening?
    Thank you!

Check that Color Settings are identical in all programmes. This is best done through Bridge which can co-ordinate the colour settings in all Adobe products.
Are you possibly copying from CMYK and pasting to RGB? This can sometimes cause colours to appear washed out.

This only happens with my Yahoo mail.  Someone please help? Any Suggestions?

    Hi Lizzy..
If you are using web based email (accessing from Safari), from the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab.
    Click: Show Cookies
    Delete all Yahoo cookies.
Now from the menu bar again click Safari / Empty Cache.
Restart your Mac, launch Safari. Try Yahoo.
If the problem persists, there's a better way to access your Yahoo mail without a browser.
Launch the Mail application. Either from your Dock or Applications folder.
From the Mail menu bar click Mail / Preferences then select the Accounts tab then the Account Information tab.
Click + under the Accounts window on the left.

  • PLEASE HELP - COLOR SHIFTING PROBLEM on output NTSC monitors

    http://www.smmlv.com/testproject/
Above is a link to a layered photoshop file that has a USA map and over a dozen network overlays used in a section of our video. I animate each layer on sepeartely in the video and have noticed a major problem recently, the color of the art does not hold true to placement. I created the art originally in Illustrator and then converted the file to Photoshop at 640x480, 72dpi. This has always worked perfectly in the past to display and animated artwork in FCP.
Right now, in FCP I am using the NTSC DV 3:2 frame size, and the compressor of DV/DVCPRO - NTSC. I have a JVC Profressional DV deck that hooks up through firewire and sends S-Video to my monitors. This setup has always given me a great picture even though it is not completely upcompressed. Using these settings and this art, the color lines on this map in red, light blue, yellow and purple all have a "color shift" to the left about 5 pixels. It makes it appear that the line is where it is in the file, but the color overlaying the line is offset to the left 5 pixels and transperant to about 50%. This occurs only when viewed on some TV's and NTSC monitors and projectors. The strange thing is, some monitors display the color aligned almost perfectly on these maps and other monitors and projectors show this "digital halo" of color shifting really bad. If I take the layered network overlays in these colors and color tint them to black or grey, white, light green, or even light orange, they no longer have the color shifting and the detail is perfect.
Is there any way to fix this problem? I have tried duplicating the sequence and setting the compressor to 8bit Uncompressed, and while my captured footage is not this compression, in theory the art should render at this higher resolution setting. This did nothing to solve the problem.
I also have tried using different Broadcast safe and Y/C corrector filters with different results. The Y/C filter allowed me to reposition the color problem and thus removing most of the problem, but also removing most of the color. Nothing else has allowed me to seemingly move the color into the proper possition.
What is causing this color shift on the displayed NTSC image?
In FCP 4.5 I can see my rendered video in the program viewer screen and besides the pixel compression appearing on the lines, overall the video looks great paused or even better when playing. Then you view it through my deck onto my Pro Sony NTSC 19" color monitor and it also appears great, with a slight color halo to the left of these colors, but the color in the lines are there. If you are a few feet from the screen and know what you are looking for you might see it, but doubtful. Then you view it using the same signal on a 17" Samsung TV and the color shifting makes the map and other art, like the clients blue logo, look horrible, with each color line appearing twice and offset left from each other as if you had double vision. Normally I would think it is the TV causing this, but then we tested this same movie on 2 differnt projectors. The $700 Epson projector displayed everything beautifully, again with only the slightest color halo to the left, but then the Panasonic $4000 projector made everthing in these colors look double vision again. What is going on???
One more thing to keep in mind, my color bars also show this problem with these colors as well as shot footage of these facilities. There are tall red poles in the shots and everything displays fine except for the red pole color looks like it's glowing off the pole to the left.
PLEASE tell me there is a solution to this.

I have tried Degaussing, using filters, changing cables, and testing other monitors and systems on these monitors, everthing I can think of to solve the issue. Is it FCPo or is it the monitors?... or is it a signal strength thing. Can monitors and projectors shift color when the signal is read from a DVD or Mini DV Deck? Is there a fequency difference (Ie: 75mgz or 80 mgz) that might be causing the shift in some monitors and not so badly in others. But if this was true, how would some DVD's (like Baby Einstein DVDs that use really bright colors) display red and blue perfect using these same player and monitor, while my projects is shifting color? Doesn't that rule out the signal from the DVD player if other DVD's do not have this issue?
I have uploaded the original art used, an exported .jpg file from the FCP timeline and sample photos of 2 different monitors to show to show this problem as best I can. http://www.smmlv.com/testproject/
Someone out there must have had this problem before. There's no way a color shift problem like this with Mini DV has gone on this long without someone seeing it.
One last thing about what I have tried... I do understand that with editing in Mini DV instead of uncompressed or HD video I lose a bit of resolution (4:2:2) and I see this compression occuring in some of the areas in the video where these problems persist. But, I did remake the art and rerender this project in an 8bit uncompressed settings and then displayed that up on the screen and I get the same color shift. I keep going in circles trying to find the culprit that is causing the delema.
PLEASE HELP! There are large tours going through our facilities daily and the large screen projector is displaying this problem as well. Let's just hope they don't notice and that their TV's at home or office does not display it on our final DVD's made.

I have tried to screen shot but must not have a clue how to!  Is there a number someone can walk me through this.. or if you could tell me how to screen shot it. I am trying the print screen but not working. I have never done on  a computer before. My system is Dell Pentium Dual Core [email protected]   4.00GB  64 Bit Windows Vista. I tried to download a trial of LR4 so I could get some work done until prob fixed but it tells me my system not compatible. I am thinking of creative cloud but will this work with my system. I use LR for 100% of my editing but have been doing other things (newborns) where I feel I need CS6. If you could let me know what I need to do to run the new LR and CS6 that would be great. (Really need a computer class)! Thanks

  • HP Color Laserjet 3550 and Leopard not working!PLEASE HELP!!

Please excuse me if this has been answered, but after being on the phone for 2 hours with HP, and looking through 100 support articles I am at the point of no return when it comes to frustration.
I have an Imac that I bought 6 months ago. Today my very generous brother bought me the new Leopard. I was very excited after I installed it. It was afterall another reason to play and explore. Then I found a bug.... I am a graphic artist and I went to print out a design for a client and it would not print. No matter what I tried my Imac that was printing to my HP COLOR LASERJET 3550, less then 2 hours ago, was no longer printing. Everytime I send something to print, the printer would say "printer connection opening" then it would say "fatal error......" and pause the job again.
PLEASE HELP WHAT DO I DO!!!! I AM VERY UPSET AND VERY FRUSTRATED!!!!

I just bought my MacBook Pro last week. I have been trying off and on for 3 days to get it to print to my HP Color Laserjet 3550 through apple talk and keep getting a message: The Application Printer Proxy Quit Unexpectedly.
I tried the generic post script printer driver. I no longer got the message but it didn't print either. I am at my wits end.
I was going to upgrade my IMac to Leopard and I sure am glad I read your post. I now will not upgrade because my IMac prints just fine.
So I at least learned something here. Maybe Leopard isn't the best system yet.

There is an extension called NoSquint that might help.

After I got a 27" screen, I had problems with the interface text being too small as well. That can be fixed with Mozilla applications if you set up a userChrome.css file in the profile inside a subdirectory called chrome. The code I used:

    *{font-family: Trebuchet MS !important; font-size: 15px !important;}

  • Color Code is not working, please help

I am using the color code 080808 from adobe photoshop as my background for my template.  When i put the JPG file into dreamweaver and try to set the page properties in dreamweaver (background) to 080808 it is putting me at pure black.  please help me.080808 is not a pure black its a shade of it.  I need a color code that matches 080808 correctly.  thanks
    I am using adobe CS3

I'm not quite sure I understand exactly what you are doing, but I ran into something like this myself.  I was creating GIFs in Photoshop -- type on a background color.  I then created DW pages.  I used the same color code for the background color in PS and again for the background color in DW, but when I inserted the images in the page, they did not match.  It turned out that when I created a new file in PS, I was creating it in my default color space, Adobe RGB.  I assumed that when Save For Web converted the file to sRGB, the colors would convert perfectly.  What I found is that I should have been creating my PS files by starting with a new file in sRGB color space.  Once I did that, the background color of my images identically matched the background color of my DW page.
    Hope this helps.
