Please Help - Original iMac 333mhz (purple)
Here's the story.
A friend of mine knows a little boy whose parents passed away and they want to give him a computer for Christmas... she asks me where she can buy a cheap used one and I offer her my purple iMac.
I pull it out, plug it in and turn it on. It works great. Show her that there's software on there for e-mail, web and open up iTunes and show her. Then I tell her, let me just move it into the other room and get it connected to the internet so I can make sure it's as up-to-date as it can be.
5 minutes later, I plug it in in my office and now power. No power light, no sound, just dead. I try another surge protector. I try disconnected the ethernet plug. I try without the keyboard. I try the power button on the keyboard and the monitor. I even carry it back into the original room it was in and plug it in there... NOTHING!
Does ANYONE know what this could possibly be. It is something that's easy to fix (I could do myself). I REALLY feel bad and want to give this computer to the little boy, and I'm frustrated that is was working great one minute and now it appears to have just died on me!
Anyone know???
Thanks! While I was waiting for a reply I did find information about the battery replacement and ran to Radio Shack... they had one! I took the machine apart, but in a new backup battery and the machine is now working great!
I'm so glad! At least this little boy can go on the internet, do e-mail and instant message and do book reports (Apple Works is on it). It won't be a fancy computer, but he gets the basics.

Please help, my iMac will not start up, the apple comes up and the wheel goes round but then I am left with a blank white screen. Has anyone any ideas.
Locate your original install disk (it's grey) and use it to restart your iMac by holding the "C" key during startup. Use the disk utility to repair your harddrive.

Apr 20, 2015, 09:21:25 AM Self test - passedSo I looked up the info on OWC as suggested and found the correct memory to upgrade but not sure how much to get and which option? I wanted to know how much space I have available to upgrade so I don't buy something that's more than what can be used. I'm not sure if I need 4GB or 8GB of ram? Also there are two options with every memory choice for instance:
8.0GB PC3-10600 1333MHZ SO Kit (4GB + 4GB) w/Lifetime Limited Warranty
Same Day
$78.79
8.0GB PC3-10600 SO-DIMM 204 Pin w/Lifetime Limited Warranty
Same Day
$82.79
Not sure what the difference is in the two and which I would need to purchase? Thank you for all your help! -

I would back up your Mac, erase and reinstall. Then Migrate your user data from the backup.
Uninstalling Tuxera is a troubleshooting process. You don't have to keep it uinstalled, just long enough to test to see if it is causing the problems.
However, if it doesn't happen regularly, it would be hard to determine if it was the cause. And, as I mentioned, I don't think it would be the cause. -
Hi can someone please help, my imac crashed, when i try to start it up, it just beeps loudly 3 times, then there is a pause before it beeps 3 more times, this just continues to happen, any sugestions? please help

i am having to use my laptop to post this question, missing my imac so much, its just not the same using this slow windows laptop.
Then maybe it's time to buy a new Windows notebook.
The RAM has either gone bad or somehow become unseated. Also there is the chance that the RAM slots have failed. -
Please Help! My brand new imac randomly disconnects from the internet. We have a BT hub - wi-fi. I have googled this issue and see that it is relatively common and it is incredibly frustrating. sadly, I have been unable to wade through the suggestions others have had as to how to solve the problem as i have no technical knowledge and am basically baffled by the list of suggestions. Please can anyone explain why this happens and what to do? It is fairly simple to reconnect each time but it is driving me mad having to. It generally happens when the computer is asleep but sometimes in the middle of doing something. Thanks!!!!!!
What frequency, security are you running? It would have been helpful if you specified in the first post.
Did you create a new Location in System Preferences->Network pane, Location pull-down. Create a new custom named Location. Then after you create that new Location click on the 'Apply' button to save that new custom named Location. See if that helps.
Lastly a lot of people have reported that WEP in lion is problmatic and it would be better to use WPA2 if you can. -

Please help! iMac iPhoto 'can't be found'?
I'm going to the Genius Bar tonight in order to ask for more help, but if anyone can give any answers now that would be great. My mom recently bought a G-Drive in order to save files from our iMac. She backed up some files, but then she tried to open up a new program and the iMac went blank. We've got it back running now, but she didn't back up the iTunes or iPhoto files from our computer, both have LOTS of music and photos. Whether we start the computer in Safe Mode or not, the iTunes is still all there (25 GB of it), but when we try to open iPhoto, it says that our library can't be found. It has the option to search for a library, and some miscellaneous pictures are still there (not form iPhoto, though). Is there any way that this can be recovered?
Is the application somewhere? Only you can know that.
You can always reinstall it -
reinstall iPhoto - go to your receipts folder ("Your hard drive" ==> library ==> receipts) and remove any iPhoto receipts and reinstall from the restore disks that came with your computer - do a custom install of bundled software only
For more information click here for the MacWorld article on reinstalling OS X applications.

Hi!
Did You See If this Happens In Safe Mode?
On Startup After the Chime Hold Down Shift Then Release It When you see the Apple and the Progress Indicator(Spinning gear). This Boot Will take a Little Longer Than Normal.
If it Did Not Work Than There Might Be Something Wrong With The Disc Drive.
I HOPE THIS HELP:) -
Please help. Imac G5 17" - frozen pink apple logo start up
hi, i bought this imac G5 17" from a second hand store, it had no discs with it and i dont know what the running system is. i have always been a windows user but wanted to try a apple. i know very little about imacs that is why i am posting this so here is the problems.
1 - i turn the imac on, i can see the light come on at the front bottom right.
2 - i then can hear the start up tone.
3 - it then flashes only once(1 second)from a complete Red screen to a complete Pinkish white screen.
4 - then about 15 seconds later a Pink apple logo appears in the center of the screen.
5 - then about 1 minute later ( still on the Pink Logo Screen ) it sounds as if the fans are going flat out or the disc drive is going flat out and thats as far as it goes and the fans or drive stay on the whole time.
6 - i tried doing a safe mode ( holding shift as soon as you hear the tone and release when you see the apple logo with the spinning wheel bellow, but it still stays on the Pink apple with a spinning Pink wheel.
7 - i also tried holding the (command) button and it goes to a Pinkish white screen with a (refresh button) then a (hard drive logo) then a (arrow button) pointing right. the hard drive picture has a X on the bottom right of the picture. you cant click on the hard drive but when you press the (arrow button) it then goes back to the Pinish white screen wuth the pink apple logo and thats it.
i cannot find anything on the web to help and i have no idea how to fix this and cannot afford to take it to a apple dealer, so any help would be great. thanks
the sticker on the top of the monitor says,
S-9495 (11/5/2010) SN: W84488U2PP6
Apple, iMac G5 (17-inch)
i have no idea what this is, but you might. ThanksHI and welcome to Apple Discussions...
You may be able to purchase replacement discs. Try here for contact information ---> Apple Store / AU You will need the serial number for replacement discs. SN: W84488U2PP6
S-9495
Not certain what that number represents but someone else might.
Considering this iMac won't boot in Safe Mode isn't good. It could be the hard disk is failing or has failed.

Please Help! iMac won't start :(
Hi, I installed Snow Leopard on my iMac (about 1yr old). It has 4GB of memory and a 1TB hard drive, plenty of free disk space. I have an external drive that I use for Time Machine, so I have backups.
After I installed SL on my iMac, everything was working perfectly fine. Then, it would start to lock up. I ran disk utility and repaired all permissions. Was still getting random lockups, but nothing catastrophic.
Then, today, it was working fine, was using iTunes, checking mail, etc. Wife and I left for several hours, came back, and the iMac was what I thought in sleep mode. Wouldn't come out of sleep mode, so i turned if off, waited a minute and turned it back on.
When the power comes on, I get the sound, then the spinning (?) loading graphic for about 10 seconds at which point it freezes up and all i can do is turn it off.
I tried disconnecting everything from the iMac, and when I started up the iMac, i noticed vertical orange(?) bars across the screen very light and they were moving before it all froze up.
So, anyone have any ideas what happened to my iMac?
Could it be the video card? Thought I would check here before calling support directly....thank goodness for multiple computers :->
Thanks for any and all helpHello a:
Welcome to Apple discussions.
It sounds very much like a hardware problem. Take it in (or call) for diagnosis and repair.
